About the author

Peter Roop is an award-winning author and educator who has written over one hundred children’s books including biographies, novels, humor, picture books, and science books. Seven of his books are Reading Rainbow books, including the Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie. In 2013, the Wisconsin Library Association recognized Peter and his wife, Connie Roop, as Notable Wisconsin Authors for their body of work, and Peter has been named a Wisconsin State Teacher of the Year. The Roops live in Appleton, Wisconsin.

With its mistaken Chief Seattle quote, "The earth does not belong to us. We belong to the earth" in the endpapers and outdated information (the book was published in 2001), an updated version of this book would be welcome.

Perfect informational book for the elementary readers. (8-10 year olds.) Great pictures and facts alternate with jokes. Love the quotes at the beginning and end of the book.

This informational book is a perfect book to pull out on Earth Day to teach students about why we celebrate and ways we can help our earth. If this book is being used for a read aloud, I would say it would be good for any elementary grade. The topics the book discusses give students an idea of just how important saving the earth is. It can be used to encourage students to do what they can to help save the earth.
