Magic and the Pagan

This is one of those books that transports you into a new land from the beginning and though you marvel at the surroundings you know you've read this story before. It was not a disappointing read, but I felt like the end left much to be desired. The descriptions of Aidan Loriel's world are so vivid in the beginning of the book that you really see everything Evan is seeing. Then, suddenly, the story speeds up so fast that you feel lost and a little uncertain about what the authors intended for the story's conclusion to be in the first place.
The smut is very good and deliciously written. The characterizations are very good but the plot was a little unclear.
It was very David Eddings meets JRR Tolkien meets hot, delicious mansex! I liked it, I just wish I could've loved it.

wobbling between 2 and 3 stars...2.75 maybe? Or just for kicks, 2.7444. *nods* I enjoyed it but it certainly had some issues.

I was thinking as I was reading this novel, that it was probably a four star read... Until I got to the end. The end appeared rather abruptly, leaving two distinct threads going absolutely nowhere.

There was a couple of things that would have been avoided by a read-through or two before release. Like how the timeli8ne is messed up sometimes, they describe something and the things that happens after, and then they go back to describing the first thing more in detail.
There is a very unclear MC in the text, which usually is not a problem since it's usually clear when the MC changes. Not here, it swings back and forth, and it's not clear which MC who is thinking at the moment. They are also described from another POV which makes it hard to relate and like the MC's.
The story is well ok for as how these kind of books use to go. Better than some, worse than others. What disturbs me is that the sexscenes, while ok, is pretty boring after a while. They just do the same thing over and over. And while it's fine and good, why not change a little? Let's be honest, but it is for the sex we read it, and when they all are the same it is pretty dull.

This book was terrific. Well written, good characters, a real plot and great sex. Evan lives in the bible belt of North Carolina where he just didn't fit in being gay and a pagan. His interest in magic lands him an old Mage's personal journal. Aiden, a lonely and powerful mage owns the lost jourmal which has a spell on it that returns the book and the person holding it to Aiden. Even tries a spell from the arcane journal and is transported to the erethral plane that Aiden's world is on. It's lust at first sight which blossoms into real love. I reccomend the book highly to any lover of magic and mages.

Final chapters killed the whole story. New characters introduced, large portions of action just skipped. It screams: "Oh, we have to finish this story somehow and do it fast."

Ok, I was under a seriously mistaken assumption when I started this book. I thought it would be an interesting alt lifestyle crossed with high fantasy type of thing. Hmmm.... I'm going to classify this for what it is, homosexual erotica in a fantasy setting. The sex scenes are explicit, so be forewarned, but they're HOT. The story itself, has an ending I anticipated, & was happy to find that I was right.

I went in to read this story thinking that I'd enjoy it to some degree but came out disgusted. The writing itself isn't bad but the characters and plot need major work. Like the book needs a solid plot line that it builds on throughout and not just go from one sex scene to another. The answer to everything in Aidan and Evan's relationship seems to be sex; they don't fight, talk about anything serious, have relationships - other then sexual - outside of each other, etc etc...
There was also ALOT of repeating the same things over and over and over to each other and to themselves. There were even mistakes in the logical thought processes of Evan's character. In one situation Aidan tells him something and Evan remarks that he's never heard that before... yet he was told the same thing just a couple pages ago!
The use of non-english terminology came off wrong as well. It seemed to be thrown in more as a "its cool!" factor rather than to add any depth to the world or anything else. Also, if someone was calling me by a term in another language it wouldn't take an entire book before I'd want to know what it meant!
In the end, if you like your stories to have as little plot as possible and just to be mostly about two characters hooking up repeatedly, then this title is for you. If you're looking for anything outside of a PWP where the world is rich and the story is thorough, then you should look elsewhere.

This book is pretty much just porn (with a story).That being said, i love it. As romance novels go, it's fucking perfect (pun?). Lonely pagan goth boy meets gorgeous fae necromancer in a world of demons, rival magicians and rebel fairies and they proceed to fall in teenage fantasy love and fuck on every possible surface. It's great, seriously. The writing is not exactly amazing, and the story is pretty underdeveloped, but it mostly just comes off as entertaining rather that frustrating.
This is not a serious fantasy novel, it's not Nightrunner or Astrient, but it is a nice counterpoint to those books, which have great story but somewhat lackluster romances. If you want serious fantasy with gay characters check out either of those series. If you're looking for great fantasy porn (with magic! and goths! and demons!) check out this book. Or read both, and get a little of everything.

Honestly, this book was all over the place. Kind of like a rabbit on crack. At times, it confused me a little and seemed to gloss over what could have been a good fantasy story, with lots of sex. It was enjoyable and a good boredom-breaker, but I feel this could have been a whole lot better if it wasn't so sexually-focused.
The ending seemed to end rather quickly and I found myself dissatisfied with how the author left so many plot strings untied. This book wasn't awful, but it wasn't amazing either.

Okay, it was not entirely bad, but it didn't really glimmer either way. it read kind of like a yaoi, which isn;t to be taken as something negative. It had various moments of sweet romantic movements others i literally laughed out loud. Nonetheless, i did like the story and the way it transported me into this fictional work. the author is great, but i feel personally that this story was a bit sped up. its a good light read--recommend if already had experience with this genre of literature!

This book was a bit of a let down. It sounded interesting enough from the description, but there is little substance to it. It was mostly jumping from one sex scene to the next and pushing aside what could have been an interesting storyline. As it was it never really focused on anything other than the sex scenes. The characters did not really have much chemistry at all and the Author gave you no reason to care about the characters one way or another.

hmm, I read some of the reviews here and I wasn't sure we were reading the same book. I really liked it. It wasn't deep or angsty or particularly clever but it was a nice story that made you feel happy at the end. I thought the charaters brought in at the end may be the set up for another book in this world, I truely hope so.
