I've always liked Ricky Tomlinson. He's my kind of bloke. Someone who doesn't just 'talk the talk' but most definitely 'walks the walk.' As a young union activist he ended up in prison after standing up for his beliefs. More recently, it was revealed that he'd quietly donated £1000,000 of his own money to a children's charity. It only got out when the charity mentioned it long afterwards.
We should call him 'Sir'. He deserves it more than any pen pushing Civil Servant. (He'd probably turn it down anyway.)
So - on to this book. It is the kind of stocking filler compilation book that I normally hate. Just a collection of loosely related items thrown together to make a quick killing at Christmas.
But as a pub lover myself, I thoroughly enjoyed these drinking tales. It includes hilarious and shocking drinking escapades from 'the man in the street.' But also includes some very famous names that we have often connected with drinking and hell raising. Richard Harris; Peter O'Toole; Oliver Reed; Richard Burton; Ian Botham, and many more.
A great book to give you a laugh on a grey day. Get another round in and read it down the pub. You wont be disappointed.
