With his dark, ominous powers, Dominic, the Amethyst dragon, has learned to keep his world secret. Bad things happen when he tries to let people in. Now that he's awakened, he's determined to help save the world and disappear back into the shadows. Until he rescues Lana, a feisty, damaged human who draws Dom in and tempts him to risk getting close to someone for the first time in so long. Too bad his dream woman has a no-shifter rule.
Lana gets why other women fall head over heels for shifters. They're sex on wheels, and Dom, her bodyguard, is no different. A tortured bad boy with dark hair and incredible blue eyes, he'd be her type if only he wasn't a dragon. But after being kidnapped and harassed by an evil alpha wolf, Lana is sure she wants nothing to do with shifters and their overbearing, possessive natures. So why can't she stay away from Dom, with his sexy kisses and his mysterious eyes?
And Dom and Lana grow to understand each other better, from unexpected kisses to steamy encounters by the lake, danger is steadily closing in. Now the only way for Dom to save Lana may be for him to embrace his dark powers, and see if Lana can accept not only a shifter, but one who is dark as the night.

At first when she was experiencing PTSD after the Galen incident I was on board. Made sense why she had her reservations to date a shifter.
Then she started being nice to Dom and open to exploring things romantically... I was on board for that.
Then the oracle showed up with two uncollared dragons and Dom said he didn't trust them and he asked her nicely not to hang out with them... Now Lana refuses and keeps claiming her and Dom are "just friends" & nothing more....
Lana's an idiot. She Keeps saying she hates shifters but then is down to hang out with two shifter strangers that obviously none of the people she's been living with (since her rescue) are visibly comfortable with. Worst part is the girls (her friends) came by and told her it's not safe for her to spend time with the 2 other shifters by herself. For someone who was kidnapped & sexually assaulted, wouldn't you exercise caution after 3 people told you it's dangerous? She's an entitled selfish twat. I am no longer on board with her foolishness.
But of course something shady is going to happen! If I was Dom I'd give that b&?!$ the cold shoulder. Let her figure herself out. She's not worthy of all the attention he's been giving her. Find a mate that respects him and wants to be with him, not some immature chick talking about "we're friends". She has no appreciation and sounds like a child.
Well of course they got their HEA but I was so annoyed with Lana I didn't really enjoy it or care anymore which is a shame bc I loved the book right before this.
Definitely still interested in reading the emerald dragon with aegis! (Despite hating the female protagonist in this one) Should be good :-)
This was my least favorite of the series. I couldn't stand Lana. I understand what happened to her but that does not give her the right to be a bitch and treat Dom like shit.
I know I'm probably in the minority with my review and I'm ok with that. I hated her and will not read this one again.
The 2 stars of this review are for Dom and those adorable kittens alone. Lana can suck it for all I care. I already deleted this mockery of a book from my kindle.
Dominic, the Amethyst Dragon only wanted to be placed back on cold storage until he discovered in "Diamond Dragon" (book 4) than the independent shifter hater, Lana was his mate. Although Lana got on my last nerve throughout" Amethyst Dragon" I began to admire her character by chapter 14 (yes, that was bad).
Now Dominic aka Dom was the perfect alpha dragon who was a good protector for the heroine, Lana. He listened to Zach (Topaz Dragon), the unofficial dragon leader on instructions on how to court Lana and Dom felled terribly until he decided to be Lana's friend instead of the overbearing dragon stalker. Dom was gentle when it came to Lana, willing to bend but Lana had alot of baggage from what Galen had done to her in "Diamond Dragon" that really made her cautious on every level with Dom's possessiveness as her bodyguard. Then the mighty oracle comes to visit with two more awakened dragons, Topaz and Citrine ... well read this story... you won't regret it!
BTW, Aegis, the Emerald Dragon was back in book 5 and what he does to help his old friend Dom was brilliantly written! Aegis' story is next y'all!
I did not like this one as much as the others. I find that I do not like the books where the h makes the H jump through hoops. That just makes me mad due to the fact that inevitably the H is going to have to rescue said bitchy h and then miraculously she will realize that what was right in front of her is what she wanted all along. I always feel like it is very unfair in these shifter books, especially when it is explained that once a male shifter meets his mate there can never be another for him. I get that she was kidnapped by "evil" shifters and she was wary, but the constant push back does not make for a good story IMO. I will read the next book in the series and I generally really like all of this authors books.
I was really looking forward to Dom's story and unfortunately found this disappointing. I did like the different take on shifter attractions and the leap from stranger to mate. I found it quite plausible that any human woman might want to go the slower route into the relationship, especially seeing that she just got out of a traumatic situation.
But overall, I found the heroine annoying. Especially seeing as Bridget came from a near identical situation, yet that wasn't really focused on to help Lana overcome her fears. Unfortunately, it felt more like a self-pity party than a victim fighting to get out of that mind frame and be a survivor. And because of that, I felt that the relationship between her and Dom was forced and the characters "less real."
There was just not enough depth to connect with the main heroine and she ended up coming off flaky and judgmental (which can't necessarily be solely blamed on her circumstances, in my opinion).
Dom and the kittens (along with the fact I've enjoyed the series overall) were the only saves in the story, which kept this from getting a lower star rating.
Beautiful story. Dark, goth dragon, strong, powerful with ominous powers. His "mate" hates shifters and so the battle begins. And he of course has a cat!
I'm glad another one of these bad boys came out yesterday. It just made my night. *sillygrin* _____ Shoves Bearlebrity off my kindle - SORRYNOTSORRY BEAR-SHIFTERS!
Just found out that this bad boy was JUST RELEASED TODAY and I'MA GET MY GRUBBY SMUT-DRAGON-LOVING HANDS ON IT ASAFP!
The next Dragon to hunt for his mate is Amethyst. But, his mate is right in the mansion with all the other dragons and their mates. She, Lana, refuses to even consider mating--at least what the word stands for due to her nightmare kidnapping to be forcefully mated with a wolf shifter. While Dom, Amethyst, rescued her and has been pursuing her relentlessly, she is not agreeing to any connection.
Poor Dom, although he wants to do what is right to persuade Lana, his advice is not working. Thanks, Zack. This one is touching. Dom appeared as almost a Bad Boy Biker Dude. Yet, Lana is about to learn more. Will she learn and believe that Dom is not like other shifters, the ones who terrorized her? Can she soften toward him? I can tell you that Dom has to have a cat too, right? Well, too might be not the right word! I will say that just like the other dragon's, their cat adoption shows another side to their mates.
Watching his patience and Lana's recovery are heart warming and not to be missed. Of course, there is steam and not just from the dragon's fire, and some surprising appearances. Another story in the dragon's awakenings that will warm your heart and heat you up. Terry Bolryder at her best. Don't miss it. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.
So this one would be my least favorite in the series. It was hard to get past how annoying the female character Lana was. And to be honest I never grew to like her by the end. I understand she was kidnapped, abused and has a fear of shifters. But what else does a man have to do to prove he's different, sincere and your mate? I honestly felt sorry for Dom the majority of the time. Laying aside his male pride and possessiveness which went against his dragon nature, he tried to be her friend showing his softer side while dealing with his own demons. Then she finally would sleep with him but wouldn't commit which ended up almost biting her in the a**. With all this being said I am still giving it 4 stars. Just because I didn't fall in love with it doesn't mean others won't. Well written and it does hold your attention. Can't wait for the next in the series.
As usual, I really liked this story. Fun, sweet, sappy. This one seemed to have less suspense in it until close to the end. Mostly just Amethyst trying to get his girl to accept him as his mate and both getting to know each other. I liked both MC's. The suspense at the end was super short and settled quick. Now on to the last book in this omni-bus. Emerald. He has actually been one of the bad guys in all the previous books. And already I think it will be the most intriguing.
Lana gets on my nerves, her behavior is somewhat accepted but seriously she keeps saying she hates shifters but then is down to hang out with two shifter strangers that just moved into the house hold, that obviously none of the people she's been living with (since her rescue) are visibly comfortable with. Yes, she has some issues to work out but talk to Bridget about it or even Dom. He is a good listener.
As for Dom, he was sweet, nice and sexy at all times. He had mystery to him before we found out some things but after that he was still the same but very emotionally strong in my mind. I would have said yes to him for he was asking me.
Not a fan of the Heroine is this book. Which is a shame as Dom was my favourite dragon so far of the series. I found her irritating and whiney. I'm quite surprised as its the only book by this author i didn't enjoy and found myself skipping pages. Let's just hope the next one is back on track with your normal strong heroines
Loved Dom and all that he had to deal with. Lana not so much I realize that she was traumatized, kidnapped and trying to deal with that but she just wanted to put Dom in with the other shifters that abused her. Did they get their HEA sure but it took her basically losing her mate to realize hey maybe I am in love with him.
Lana ruined the book for me, she was so unlikable, whiney self absorbed selfish wishy washy and prejudiced. She definitely didn't deserve Dom, such a shame as he was my favorite so far. Lana was such a twat and didn't appreciate what she had and all he did. Poor Dom I will gladly take him off her hands.
loved their story, but the fact the story kept referring to the wrong alpha wolf drove me batty. Galen was the wolf that attacked Brigett and prompted Alistair's breakout at the beginning of Diamond. Curien was the wolf that kidnapped and almost raped Lana. wonder how I get a job as a proofreader, because somebody dropped that ball 😋
Normally I love this author's work but I really disliked Lana. A bad experience made her basically a racist which lead to her being very flaky and sending a lot of mixed messages to the hero. I just wasn't a fan of this leading lady
On this one I think I need to be blunt upfront because it’s going to come out somewhere in this review. I absolutely loved Amethyst Dragon – I adored Dom, the story was engaging, the danger felt real, it was a true treat to see all the dragons and their mates together in this story. The only dark spot in this story… was Lana. I understood her reluctance and desire to make the choice about committing to a mate in Dom. After the near forced mating that the wolf shifter Galen tried on Lana during her captivity it was perfectly understandable that she’d not want to give up what she considered control over her future. I even would have understood her decision if she had stayed true to that through throughout most of the story. But she didn’t, she wavered, she put a different word, a safer to her mind word on what she was experiencing with Dom. Even after he had showed her his gentleness, his willingness to allow her all the control she’d ever need from him, she still stubbornly held on to her need to make the choice to mate with him. By the halfway point of the story I was simply done with Lana. My alliance was totally Dom’s from then onward. I think the stupidest moment was when she’d been warned by her friend, the other mates and Dom about one person, she walked right into Dom’s nightmare. I just… no, no more.
It may sound odd to state that I loved a story but was completely annoyed by the heroine. Yet, it is the truth. Amethyst Dragon, takes the series further, close to finding answers that I’ve been waiting for. And finally, next we will have Aegis, the Emerald Dragon’s story which I fear is going to be a bit heartbreaking but satisfying. It’s been an amazing journey through this series, and I will be sad to see it end with the next book. As for Dom and Lana? Well, Lana’s turn around at the end wasn’t enough for me – but it was perfect for Dom. So as a reader I have to be glad that my Hero got his happy ever after.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I can understand that she has issues after being kidnapped and stuff. But the fact that her best argument was "he was a shifter and kept repeating that word'mate'".... Nope. I could understand how she is afraid of shifters because of their strength and capability to overpower and hurt her, I get the part where she wants to make her own choice. But. The whole time I was just thinking - what if he [Galen] was human and kept repeating "chocolate"? Would you really hate the entire race of humans? You race? Shouldn't you hate yourself then too? And would you really stay away from chocolate because some weirdo kept repeating the word? Even though you love chocolate? The way I see it - Silly. Unreasonable. She just uses her "he was a shifter" argument, because shifters are new, unknown to her and not her own species. Humans do bad things to humans. Just watch the news. TO write off an entire species just because one person (fine a group) wronged you? That is racism. And it is wrong. It is always easier to blame and write off something that is strange, unknown, alien to you. So that was a very weak argument. I actually feel bad for Dom that he ended up with such mate. Sure, she should have experienced some control issues, but not in regards to the whole "shifter" argument. So that kind of ruined the book for me. I love the series, I really do (I have read 5 from 6 books so far after all), but this was the most frustrating and non-enjoyable book I have read in the series. I considered leaving one star, but Dom was so nice, I just couldn't do it to him. But Lana was really, really annoying and repulsive.
Dominic, the amethyst dragon, who's tortured by his powers, had been awakened so he could help find Alistair, the diamond dragon. He had planned to ask to be frozen again after doing so but he decides to help Bridget find her friend Lana first. Lana had been taken by the shifters who were holding Alistair prisoner. Dom has a vision as to where she's being held but there's no time to wait if she's to be saved before something happens to her. When they get to the castle where she's being held, he knows she's his mate immediately upon seeing her. But she doesn't want anything to do with shapeshifters. Can he change her mind before it's too late? And can he learn to live with his powers? Two other dragons are introduced here, Citrine and Topaz. And the previously awakened dragons wonder just what their intentions are.
There were several grammatical/editing issues throughout this book, more so than in the previous ones and these always take away from the story for me. One that specifically stood out was bored for board. I also believe she went too far with Lana. Yes, Lana had PTSD from the abuse she suffered but she was beyond selfish in places where she didn't prove to be the friend for Dom that he was for her.
I absolutely love this series, and each of these dragons have stolen my heart. Dom, aka Amethyst Dragon, is one of the most powerful, but also the most tortured. His powers of different psychological abilities has caused him so much grief throughout his life that he never tells anyone about his powers. Between his grief, guilt, and secrets, it's been extremely difficult for him to form any kind of relationship with anyone, until he meets his mate.
Lana has been through a traumatic experience in the hands of the evil shifters. Even after being rescued by the dragons and her true mate, she wants nothing to do with any shifter of any kind, especially the one claiming that he's her true mate. Will she ever be able to move past her trauma, stop being scared of everything and everyone, and be able to accept the gift that fate has given her in the form of her mate? Will she ever be able to see past his dragon to the wonderful, amazing man he is? Will these two broken souls be able to heal one another and have the HEA they deserve?
I knew that there was more to Dom than what he allowed anyone else to see, and couldn't wait for his book. His story broke my heart, I hated what he had went through his entire life cause of others, and was excited that he had found his mate, or at least I was. I didn't exactly hate Lana, but I wasn't fond of her or her actions. I get that she had been through a traumatizing experience, and though it wasn't Dom's fault, she treated him as if he was exactly like the others because he was a shifter too. I hated all the mixed signals she was giving him, and giving him hope only to crush it after she got what she wanted. She has been the first mate that I haven't liked out of all of them, which I hated, but to me Dom deserved someone better. Just my opinion. Aside from that, I really loved the story.
I strongly recommend this book, series, and fantastic author!
I really loved Dom, the Amethyst dragon, he is also a healer and can see dead people. He is tormented by his pass and was more than happy to be kept a sleep. all he wanted was to help find his dragon friend, Diamond dragon found in the previous book, and go back to sleep. However all this changes when he meets his fated mate. Lana is a dragon heart, kudna6and almost forcibly mated to a evil wolf shifter before Dom rescue her. Due to months in captivity she wants nothing to do with shifter and can't wait to start her life away from them. Dom was a mazing mate, so understanding, and caring but my low rate on this story is all due to Lana. She came out bitchy and heartless hurting Dom at every turn. Now I am off to read the last and most interesting dragon off the whole series, the Emerald dragon!!!!
Heart-warming Story of Two Lonely Persons Finding Love - They are both so similar, both traumatized by their past but still needing to help others. The story is very emotional and warm, heartfelt. I really enjoyed reading it. The Amethyst Dragon is so romantic, caring, patient and understanding while himself being tortured by dark visions and dreams and guilt. She is still haunted by her experiences in imprisonment and sexual assault and is only slowly learning to trust and be free as her own self again. I found myself smiling and feeling strongly for both of them and hoping for them to overcome their problems and finding love and each other.
This is the 6th shifter book I've read from Terry Bolryder, and I think it has the most depth. The hero and heroine are each dealing with mental and emotional issues that prevent them from mating, rather than the human just trying to get used to the fact that dragons exist. The books in this series are technically standalones (no cliffhangers), but I think the enjoyment of this book in particular was aided by me having read the previous books in the series. Even if you aren't going to read the entire series, reading the fourth book in the series before this one helps to flesh out the issues that the hero and heroine are having.
I have really enjoyed the Gem dragons or Awakened Dragons and I found Amethyst Dragon was one of the ones I didn’t love as much. I understand things were rough but by the almost end of the book I just wanted to slap Lana. She was getting ridiculous and I was so desperate for her to change. Aside from her, I loved getting into Dom’s mind and reading about the dark, brooding amethyst dragon from earlier books. I look forward to book six and more of Terry Bolryder’s work. I very much enjoy her work.
This is book #5 of the Awakened Dragon series. And it is about Dominic, the Amethyst dragon. He just rescued his mate, Lana from the wolf shifter, Galen. Lana has not desire to mate with any shifter because of Galen. Dom messes up until Alastair's tells him to try and be her friend first then move in on her. It works and he makes progress now if he can just keep from hurting the new guys he may just get is woman.
