"In this fascinating book, you will learn about a part of our country's history that has not been thoroughly documented. I guarantee you will be proud of what these 'grandmas' did to serve America in a time of great need. In so doing, they carved a path that other women for many generations have since benefitted from. I include myself in that very grateful group of women who today stand on the shoulders of these awe-inspiring pioneers." --Gen. Janet C. Wolfenbarger, USAF (ret), first female four-star general in the Air Force, chairperson of the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services [green] Contributors to this unique memorial include the family of military women and those who preserve their history. A portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated to Honor Flight Dayton, an Ohio chapter of the Honor Flight Network, Inc. The cover art is by aviation artist Craig Kodera.
This is a very fascinating book that teaches you so much about our country's history and everything that has or hasn't been accurately documented. It was very cool to hear about what these "grandmas" didi to serve our country during America's time of need. These are incredible women who truly carved a path that other women have greatly benefited from. Both of the Authors, Col. Cassie B. Barlow, USAF (retired), and Sue Hill Norrod talk about their experiences and wish to preserve their military family history.
Having come from a Military family, I really enjoyed reading this book. I really appreciated these women taking the time to honor these "grandmas" of World War II and talk about how incredible they were. The Women of World War II truly impacted America with the strength and dedication.
I would have this book in my classroom for older kids to read. I think especially young girls would be interested to see how much women have impacted our country just as much as men have. This is a very encouraging and inspiring book for young girls and women in America. It would also be a great book to have your kids read and write about if you are teaching lessons on World War II.
A quick read with lots of photos. An overview of how women participated in earlier wars, particularly WWII. The history of Honor Flights and author Sue Hill Norrod's experience of an Honor Flight with her veteran mother and uncle is included, as are wartime experiences of several individual women. Interesting info.
