The first three books of the Twisted Fairy Tale Series are now available in this box set! Includes Thread and Spool, Wolves and Paths, and Frogs and Princes.
Thread and Spool: Cursed with the ability to weave thread into gold, Brie has learned to trust no one. Her parents keep her around so they can gamble their money away and now her boyfriend's only staying because he's got a collection of game systems to grow.
When Brie grabs the attention of Stilt, the new guy in town, it changes everything. Brie is a Legend—a character in a fairytale—and she belongs in a realm of magic called Fable. But when she crosses over to the new world with Stilt, she soon learns that the cruel ruler of the realm has taken an interest in her ability-and it could cost Brie her life.
Stilt promises that he can help her escape, but in return, he asks for something that she might not be able to give. Can Brie put her trust in Stilt or will she die at the hands of greed?
Wolves and Paths: Sometimes there's more to the fairy tales than you think...
Red has only ever known a life under her oppressive grandmother's thumb and she's struggled all her life to break her fear of rebellion. But when her boyfriend, Tate, wants to take her to Disney World (forbidden by her grandmother) she can't help but break the rules. But maybe her grandmother was right to warn her against the place, because the park is a gateway to another dimension: Fable, where fairy tales are real and things go bump in the night. And now her grandmother has been taken captive by an evil magician named Alric.
Red turns out to be the central character in a very scary story, a tale she will have no choice but to act out in order to save her grandmother. Worse, Alric is determined to rule Fable by making all the famous fairy tales fall—and Red is his first target. Red, along with Tate, must venture into almost certain death and learn to break the chains of her fear. But on her journey, Red will learn that even the most famous fairy tales are not always what they seem...
Frogs and Princes: Candice hates being the rich girl in town and the fact that the most irritating guy in school, Shorty, has a huge crush on her. That, and she can hear frogs talking, something she's always had to hide.
But when a frog begs her to save him from dissection, she steps in, starting a chain of events that land her and Shorty in Fable, a world where the fairy tales are real. It turns out she's a princess, and the frog she rescued is meant to be her prince. But he's far from a happily ever after. He's a huge jerk, and if she doesn't free him from his curse and agree to be his bride, her kingdom will turn dark and fall into the hands of the most powerful dark wizard in Fable.
Candice must face her identity and make an impossible decision. It also turns out Shorty's got secrets of his own, secrets which might destroy them all.

Holly Hook is the author of the Destroyers Series, which consists of five young adult books about teens who are walking disasters...literally. She is also the author of the Rita Morse series, a young adult fantasy series still in progress, and After These Messages, a short ya comedy. Currently she is writing Twisted, a spin-off of the Destroyers Series due out in December. When not writing, she enjoys reading books for teens, especially ya fantasy and paranormal series with a unique twist.
I was given an arc for an honest review. Holly you have done it again. First the Destroyers, Deathwind and Flamestones now Twisted Fairy tales. What cant you write. I really enjoyed this book.
Book 1 Thread and Spool is about a girl named Brie who is cursed to weave thread into gold. Brie is being forced to pay for her familys gambling as well as her boyfriend collections when she meets Stilt he takes her to Fable a Land of Legends where fairytales exist and are ruled by an evil King Henrik who it turns out wants Brie for his Bride. Brie want to find out a way to change her story so she gets the help from Stilt, Cinderella's wicked stepsister Sylvia and others. Like Holly's other works this story has Twists (just look at the series name lol) turns adventures and loads more. Holly never fails to entertain with her stories. And her retellings of fairytales are awesome. Book 2 In Wolves and Paths Red is a girl who can't do anything a normal girl would be seen doing because her grandmother is very strict. When Reds boyfriend Tate gets tickets for them to Disney World she goes. A after a close call at the airport with her grandmother they get to Disney World only for her grandmother to find them and then get taken to Fable. With the help of old and new characters Red goes on a quest with Tate to find and save her grandmother from Alric. This is a classic Holly Hook story with twists and adventure I can't wait to read the next installment of this series. OMG Holly has done it again. this series has had me pulling out my hair with all the twists and turns that Holly is know for and this one is no different. Book 3 Frogs and Princes is an awesome book about a rich girl Candice, who can hear frogs talking. when she helps a frog in her science class it lands Candice in Fable, what she doesn't know the frog is evil, Shorty a guy in her class that has a crush on her along with Franco her friend end up with her there. what comes next is classic Holly with Twists you didn't see coming. this has to be my favorite book in this series so far, well until I read the next one lol.
The stories {to do this without spoilers just giving the titles} are 1 Thread and Spool, 2 Wolves and Paths, 3 Frogs and Princes, 4 Towers and Braids, 5 Poison and Mirrors, 6 Swans and Silence, and Glass and Death.
Usually notice when lots of errors but by time did the first one didn't want to bo back and look at all the issues, and secone one glitched so would be for 3 and above that did that for. Individually got a 3, all together a 2 for sets.
Needs to definitely be proofed a bit better; there were parts that were the same {literally, an indential repeat of a previous sentent/sentences}, some things that didn't make any sense {garage doors can be opened from the inside, without the romote, they are built that way}, places where a charcter is right behind someone and then way back down the trail, areas that are not misdirection they are just contradictory, and so on. How can a park be 3 streets away, half a mile away, AND 5 minutes away all at the same time? And how one minute is the girl saying yes she'd hold on to the wand, then x amount of time later, it's in the guy's pocket? PROOF for consistency. BTW, not saying something 'out loud' doesn't really matter a lot if you thought it and are with a mind reading frog. GET THE STORY STRAIGHT...you see the wand on the table, then mention that when it's picked up you hadn't noticed it on the table, what?

Thread and Spool
This is the first book in the A Twisted Fairy Tale series and this was just a great way to start off a new series. I absolutely loved this story. It totally captured my attention and drew me into its world of fairy tales and magic. I’ve never read a book quite like this it had a totally different take on fairy tales and how they try to change their story it was brilliant how the author interwove this story into a truly remarkable tale. Anyone who loves fairy tales and likes twists will totally love this book. I can’t wait to read the other ones in the series. I wish it had been longer it was a really easy read that immediately had me wanting to read more as I turned the last page.
I'm an avid fan of fairy tale rewrites, and so I was excited when I first came across this series. It tickled me pink that one of the main characters has a similar name to my daughter, as it's an uncommon name. As I read, the story was good, but it just didn't draw me in the way I'd hoped it would.
That being said, I think this is an excellent series for middle grade to teens. It's fun, lighthearted, and sassy. I think the characters will resonate with these age groups very well. The plots of these books are really good, and the writing is excellent. There are so many moments to make a reader laugh out loud. Even if you only giggle slightly, the books are so lighthearted and fun. They make a great weekend read.
Read 2/3. You know how some movies are made into books but they have to cut so much out to fit the story into 2 hours? This is the opposite. These stories are like a pretty good tv show that someone tried to make a book out of, but to get the book long enough they had to repeat things over and over. The story is original, but I found myself bored and only reading it because I hate not finishing a book. After the second book in this set I had enough of wasting my time. I would, however, have been willing to watch a tv show of this series.
I didn't love the first three books in the series. A little too depressing and disjointed for my taste. Also it just felt like details were missing and I found myself slightly confused at points. There was some entertainment along the way. Overall these books were ok. May read the next one if I could find it for free somewhere. I am curious so we'll see.
This box set was a true adventure that I absolutely enjoyed. A very different take on a fable. We all know fairytales or at least I never really gave it more thought. This was very interesting, edge of your seat suspenseful, and laugh out loud funny. Well done!!! #TeamHolly
I liked the first book in the series, but I'm only half way through the 3rd. It's a good story, I just wish the editing was better. I'm reading the eBook, and there are so many typos and weird punctuation through the series so far that it takes me right out of the world she's trying to create. I want to go through with a red pen and make corrections.
Thread and Spool was an interesting and unique retelling of Rumpelstiltskin! Wolves and Paths was not what I expected from the Little Red Riding Hood retelling and in a good way. I wasn't as big of a fan of the Frog Prince retelling, but I have to admit Holly did add a twist or two that was unexpected! Fable is an entertaining world and I am looking forward to reading the rest!
I couldn't stop reading until the final page. It was as if I became another character in the narrative. The twists and plot turns caught me unaware. This one goes on the re-read shelf.
What if fairy tales are real? What if the legends escaped to the real world? What if some didn't know who they were? Then one day they are taken into the fairytale? Turn the page and read on!!!
These were an amazing read so enjoyed them. A great modern twist to old classics. I definitely recommend reading these for all ages and I look forward to reading the rest in this series.
Thread and Spool - A new twist to Fairy Tales is where we travel with this new series from Ms Hook. What fun and intrigue follow with each page. These aren't the ones we know. We follow with Stint and Brie take us on a journey to change their stories. And what a journey it is. Fun and mayhem follow and best laid plans go awry. Great story and memorable characters make this a stand out book.
Wolves and Paths Ms Hook brings us twisted version of Red Riding Hood with Red and Tate as or main characters. Red learns of her other life that she has been hidden from and meets a few friends along the way. A great read carries the story with strong characters and a few chuckles filled with excitement and page turning intrigue. While life and death are escaped at every turns strong new friendships are made and old enemies are defeated. Red learns all there is about her past but more importantly about the power she yields and shares with those she loves. On her magical journey as she overcomes and battles thru each obstacle will it be enough, is she strong enough, only time will tell. A great story of learning to accept who and what you are and making the best of all things. An awesome read.
Frogs and Princes - Ms Hook has brought us The Frog Prince all dressed up in this century, well kinda. A great rendition of the old story with a wickedly unique point of view as we travel back to the land of Fable with Claudia, Franco and Shorty who isn't what or who it seems to be. A great tale filled with twist and turns. Claudia learns that things are not always what they seem to be and neither are people. The Frog Prince remains totally and completely arrogant, self important, and determined. While Shorty, well Shorty does a lot of things including learns a whole lot about himself and that he can choose his ending. The thing is does Claudia have what it takes to change hers. Great fun and a good rendition of an old favorite done very well. I would definitely recommend it to all.
The Twisted Fairy Tale Box Set by Holly Hook contains Books 1-3 of the series. This is a YA spinoff of classic tales and the books in this collection are: Thread and Spool; Wolves and Paths and Frogs and Princes.
As the names suggest, we visit the classic Fairytale characters and their stories of Rumplestiltskin, Red Riding Hood and the Frog Prince. But with a slight difference.
Welcome to Fable, The magical world that exists along side our own and is home to all the fairytale stories and their stories. But the peaceful existence is being disrupted and Fable is in danger of collapsing as the greedy and powerful wizard, Alric, has a plan to turn all of Fable dark and rule it all. But if he succeeds, all the stories Fall.
This collection contains a great mix of characters spanning the books with the one constant of Alric and his plan to takeover all of Fable. If you enjoy your classic Fairytales but would like a bit of a spin to them, then this collection is for you. Discover Fable and see whether Good will still triumph over Evil.
Fairytales from an entirely different point of view. The characters come alive and the lines between fantasy and reality burn away like fog in the sun. The story is clean and gutter language free eminently readable.
