Warning: this book contains disturbing situations, strong language and sexual scenes, recommended for ages over 18.
I have a potty mouth. People see me as the girl who sleeps around. I am known as his girl. But things aren't always as they seem. I hide behind a charade that I created to keep people at arms length, even to the ones close to me.
No one knows who I really am, not even my best friend Jonny Stone, the guy that saved me years ago. We both have messed up pasts on which we are not willing to share.
He says I'm his light in his darkness, but I feel he's pulling me more into the shadows.
We play games, we like to push each other to our limits but what if our limits are lines that should not be crossed?
Am I willing to face my past? To finally give the man who owns me all of me?
Will the girl I created be strong enough for what's to come?

I was blown away by this book and I can't for more .. the author left us panting for more and let me tell me you the wait is going to KILL ME !
J.L. Ostle was able to convey such emotion, passion and vulnerability in her characters that you felt so deeply for them all. Her writing was spot on and flawless, taking you along on this journey of pain, love, and friendship.
Raven and Jonny are best friends. They each face demons that will not let them rest. Both are running scared of their past and both are scared of embracing their future. Together they have found the elusive safe haven. Each giving to the other exactly what they need. One a sexy, dominant, rich and damaged man, the other just as damaged, beautiful, smart mouthed woman. I loved the bond these two had, especially the passion that sizzled between them and the banter that was at times, sexy and at times hysterical.
As the story develops and you as the reader come to realize the depth of these demons you understand their plight and your heart will break for them. Things are definitely not what they seem in this story and as Raven tries to be more more like her alter ego, she comes to realize that she is doing more harm than good.
Can two people who's chemistry is explosive finally come together for a chance at a HEA or will the heat be too much to bear or even risk. What happens when fear is the biggest obstacle standing in your way ?
Get ready to blush, sigh, swoon, get pissed off and become so engrossed in a read that will leave panting for more.
Five Fantastic Stars! Raven and Jonny both have kept their demons from one another. They have formed a bond but as things shift can/will they keep it together? This is a dark book so be warned. I was engaged from the beginning and could not put the book down. I found myself feeling every emotion they experienced and loved their chemistry. There are plenty twists and turns that will leave you saying omg, especially when you are left with the cliffhanger. I now keep saying I need book number two bad! This is a book you must read! Highly recommend it!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This Book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.
I received a complimentary copy from the author....
OH MY FLIPPING GOD!!!! I can't even process what just happened. This book was beyond amazing. I loved every part of it (well except for that massive cliffhanger!!) I need the next book ASAP. I can't even express how completely enthralled I was with this book.
Raven (love her name), who is the ultimate good girl bad girl combo and Jonny the dark man who needs light in his life. Great complicated characters who have great friends. This book does have dark tones in it but it does have some funny moments.
I need the next book so bad; I'm having an epic book hangover.
Received an arc for an honest review- (will try not to post spoilers)
Just finished reading and holy shit that was so hot and gut wrenching. Loved the plot of this story and the unique relationship between Raven and Jonny. The chemistry these two had was so intense it had me hooked from the very beginning. The back and forth banter was so intense it had me putting my Kindle down a few times cursing at the characters!
Loved how the story was heading and then there was an evil plot twist with a cliff hanger that had me whisper yelling at my Kindle nooooooooo... Ahhh I am completely hooked and have no idea what I'm going to do until I find out what happens next! Jenna you are so evil lol!
I received the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first book by J.L. Ostie and I loved it. Jonny and Raven are in a relationship of sorts, each with their own demons from the past. A really interesting story that had me hooked from the very beginning. This book ends with a cliffhanger, I look forward to the next book.
I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review. BUY THIS BOOK. That's as honest as I can get. INCREDIBLE STORY.
This is my first J.L. Ostle book. I didn't know what to expect. Now I ask myself WHY I waited so long to read her books.
This book is dark, edgy, emotional, passionate, surprising, and yes romantic. Raven and Jonny have secrets from their pasts. As the story unfolds more are revealed. By the end you will want to scream at both of them. They both do what they need to do for themselves in the end.
The book does end in a cliffhanger, which traditionally I stay away from, BUT this will be worth the wait. I am so excited for what will happen next with these two.
Thank you J.L. Ostle for having the brilliant mind to write such an incredible story. Congratulations, you have officially changed my thinking on cliffhangers. Your books have been added to my must read wish list.

When I connected with this author on Facebook, she was very nervous about the reaction this book was going to get. Well she shouldn't have worried this book is everything and more. Slightly on the dark side this book gripped me from the start and left me begging for more. Everyone has a past but their past is hell. This book was emotional and deep.
Raven was a good girl but in the last 3 years she has changed, now people look at her and see a bad girl...but not everything is as it seems. She needs this image to get herself through each day. With a past that still causes her nightmares she finds herself opening up more to her friend Caron and uses dance as her escape. Johnny is her best male friend but he has also helped piece herself back together again even though he still remains in the dark about her past.
Johnny has gone through hell and when he met Raven she became his light. He lives his life going through women but he has certain needs. Kink and BDSM are his thing and no matter how much he wants Raven he wants to keep her from this.
Raven and Johnny's story is unique. Best friends who thrive to piss each other off, Johnny has wanted Raven since he first laid eyes on her but Raven continues to say NO. They have a connection that binds them together but lines become blurred and soon they find themselves on unknown ground.
With the past coming for them both and the present still unsure these 2 have some tough times in store for them. They have to make choices that will see their life's going in very different ways they ever expected. But the question is will they go through them together or apart?
I have not read many books by J.L. Ostle (a situation I need to remedy soon) but I can honestly say if this book is anything to show on her work than I can't wait to get my hands on more. This book had me biting my nails eager to find out how it was all going to play out and man I did not anticipate where it went. Talk about a major cliffhanger!!! AHHHH I just about pulled out my hair. I know not everyone likes cliffhangers but I can tell that it was needed to get the whole story and I must say what a way to leave us hanging. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!!!!
These characters both have a past that has changed how they look at relationships not only romantically but friendships as well. They don't open up or trust easily so their friendship is something that isn't something you would've anticipated. They don't have the typical type of friendship but what they have works for them.
She has put on a facade since coming to college because of her past and only her best friend knows about, which is not Jonny by the way. He has some secrets from his past that has made him the way he is.
Will she open up and let Jonny know about her past? Will things escalate and change their relationship to be more than friends? How will it all play out?
I highly recommend this book and I can't wait for the next. I am literally on pins and needles here waiting for it.
I loved this book. It was an unexpected surprise and a different kind of story. I will definitely read the next book and more from his author.
In He Owns Me, J.L. Ostle gave us such an emotional, passionate, heart-breaking story. Two broken people, Raven and Jonny have so many dark secrets, but when they are together things feel right. For three years they have kept their relationship platonic because it meant so much for them, though they often blurred the lines.
Raven, broken and lost, needed a fresh start when she met Jonny. Jonny feels he lives in dark shadows, but Raven is his light. Should they give in to their feelings? Can two people with so many secrets have a chance at love?
This story was at times heart-wrenching, but so worth the read. It flowed very well and kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. And that ending, that ending had me wanting to throw my eReader! I can't wait for the next book to learn what happens next!
He Owns Me is the first book in the Owning me series by J.L. Ostle. I will tell you right now that it ends in a Big Cliffhanger. Wow! What a Cliffhanger it was. This is J.L. first dark romance that she has written. What a great job she did on this book. I actually stayed up all night reading He Owns Me. That once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. Then through out the following day I kept thinking about Jonny and Raven. I couldn’t get them off my mind.
Best friends Jonny and Raven have this unique friendship but they both have secrets demons that they are keeping from one another. As they run from their past their friendship starts to change. Will they be able to keep their friendship together?
I definitely don't want to tell you to much about the story because it will ruin the twist & turns & suspense for you the reader. This is a great book and I'm counting down the days till the next book comes out.
Received an ARC!! Will try to avoid spoilers... Raven and Jonny are the picture of skeletons in the closet ! While both have a demon filled past that they keep quiet from each other. They have built a bond that gets them through the day, it works for them until it gets shifted. Filled with quick banter and true heart stopping emotion . Raven and Jonny just steal your heart.
You can't help but fall in love with these two even at times I was yelling at them in my head ( out loud also), I couldn't stop turning the page. J.L Ostle makes you feel every emotion with Raven and Jonny, it does end leaving you wanting more. I can't wait to see what's to come for these two. My recommendation is just dive in and hold on for the ride you won't be disappointed!
I've read everything by this author to date and loved each book. This one did not disappoint, I think it's my favourite one she has written. It follows the life of Raven who has been through a lot in her short life and Jonny who takes her under his wing, but he also hides a past, it has plenty of emotion, frustration and laughs. But most of all it grips you from the beginning and has you feeling the emotion, I shouted at the characters a few times and wanted to shake them ! It's one of those books you don't want to end, can't wait for the next one. Well done J L Ostle.
Holy Shit!!!!! I love this Author and I Love all of her books and this book is no exception!! It's so full of emotion and it gutted me the whole story line was so well written and hooked me from the first page! This is her first dark book and I couldn't put it down cause I needed to know what happend to Raven!!! The connection she and Jonny had was so strong and unique!! They were best friends and both had demons in there past!! I wanted to kill Jonny in so many parts in the book cause he made me so crazy but his character draws you in like no other has ever had!!! Loved loved loved this book and can't wait for more!!!!!
Raven has a haunted past, but so does Johnathan. They can't commit to each other, but they can't leave each other. Johnny saved Raven one night which started a friendship that carried them through College, but when that comes to an end and Raven's past catches up with her things begin to spiral out of control. Johnny also has a past that haunts him, and he doesn't want to bring Raven into his lifestyle.
What will they do? Can Raven leave and chase her dream? Can Johnny and Raven live without each other.
This is a very emotional book. I give it five stars...
*I was lucky enough to receive a copy in exchange for an honest review!
I loved this book! I read this in between packing/moving so I had to put it down often, when I didn't want to!
Raven and Jonny are best friends who act like more than that. I loved Jonny for always being there when Raven needed him most, then I hated him more than anything. I was wishing for some horrible outcome for him for what he did to Raven but as the book went on.... let's just say I can't wait for his book! I need answers for why he was being such an a$$!
I enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and was pulled into the story. I am dying to get my hands on the second book and found out what comes next. Both main characters had great chemistry between the two. This is a dark book so warning of dark isn't your type of book don't read. But if it is I highly recommend it.
Wow!!! This book was amazing. I love this author so much. I've followed her from the beginning and everyday she amazes me. She's talented and cares about her readers.
This book had me begging for more. I finished it in one day. It was so good I couldn't put it down.
FLOVE!! J.L. Ostle gets better and better with each book. OMG such perfection. This book can pull you in so easily and it'll hit you right in the feels each time. I can't say how often I cried and laughed while reading this. Wonderful job!
Best book by far read read read this book can't believe i have to wait till December for the next one worth the wait tho. Loved the caritures in this book had me at the edge of my seat well done
The book was amazing. I was lucky to receive a copy for an honest review.
So we met Raven and Jonny both have secrets but they are best friends. But there is more Raven admits Jonny owns her. Jonny admits if she was to go he would lose the light in in life.
This story just seems to have more and more questions as it goes on. Jonny and Raven work well together and the heart strings are pulled. However like a true great read they just cant get it together. I was totally frustrated with the ending Jonny has some serious explaining to do in the next book.
All is all a powerful book about secrets and lies. With a huge bloody cliffhanger. I really need the second one ASAP.
I REALLY liked this book. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately, it was another one of those books where lack of communication messes everything up.
I can't even begin,,,I am still reeling from this read.
First off this is a ne author to me and I am so glad I found her this book is a 5 Star for me right off the hope for so many reasons!!!
Her story is amazing I love this plot line I love every last character in this book...the author's writing is spot on and because of that she was able to connect me to each and everyone of those characters and made me feel all their emotions deep down. It has been awhile since an author was able to settle into my core and keep me hooked and eager to continue. This book is a longer read but I read it until I was done I could not stop.
Raven and Jonny's story is a dark one of torture, bullying, mistrust but then filled with the lightness of love and friendship. This book is packed full of emotions that will leave you reeling. The characters are well developed and complex and their banter is humorous at times but I warn you keep some Kleenex it is a bumpy ride.
This story has been started but does not end here...there is so much more to come and I lok forward to the day it does!!! KUDOS to you Ms. Ostle for an amazing book, stellar writing, complex characters and magnificent plot!!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an HONEST REVIEW for Rockstar Book Muse
So, I received my copy of He Owns Me through the Quill & Ink Review Team on Facebook, and I’m damn glad I did.
This book follows Raven and her best friend Jonny, and the secrets they keep from each other, and the relationship that gets built up and knocked down between them. I don’t want to get too much into the plot, because the slow reveal of big twists was super enjoyable and I hate giving out spoilers, so I’ll just go with what I loved and didn’t love about it.
The relationship between Jonny and Raven was a mix of funny, flirty, sexy, angsty and complicated. There were so many times while reading where I actually had to close my kindle app and take a few minutes to process what one had said to the other. Deep down, you know they really care about each other, which is what made the ending so frustrating for me!
I loved Caron, and the fact that Jonny wasn’t Raven’s sole pillar of support. Too many books nowadays don’t really emphasise the strength of good female friendships, so I’m glad Caron was someone for Raven to lean on.
I literally have no sympathy for Raven’s family. If they pop up in the next book, I’m going to be so angry. Raven’s whole past was fucked up, but her family made it so much worse.
Jonny was hot and wonderful and sometimes tortured, but some of the shit he did was just so inexcusable to me, so hopefully there’s redemption for him in She Owns Me (the sequel coming out in December)!
To be honest, at first Raven kind of got on my nerves. To have a bad reputation and own it is one thing; to create a bad reputation and exploit it is another. I understood why, as the book went on, but I don’t think she’s an instantly likable character (at least, she wasn’t to me). She definitely grew on me as the book progressed.
Overall, this book was a quick read, with a super easy-to-understand writing style, and I really enjoyed it.
I told myself before I started that I wouldn’t care about a cliff hanger, but I proved myself wrong. I cannot fucking wait until the next book comes out.
Raven has very high walls, and no one knows the real her, as she wants everyone to believe that she's the hard ass girl who hits it and quits it. Her tragic past has burned her badly, so this new persona is just safer, and keeps her heart from being hurt anymore. Even her very best friend, Jonny Stone, has no idea what truly goes on deep down. Both of them have messed up pasts that keep them having each other's backs. The hardest problem is accepting the feelings they have for each other, so they play games to push each other. However, they finally cross the line that Raven swore they would never cross, and as she faces her past, she decides to take a chance on him. But when Jonny's past comes back, will Raven's heart still be standing in the aftermath?!
I never saw this intense, emotionally charged story coming, and it just about brought me to my knees. All of my girly girl emotions are flying around, and I'm not sure how I feel. I spend the majority of my time so very frustrated with Jonny and Raven, but with each new look into her past, my heart shattered for her, and I swear my eyes leaked a time or two. And just when I was learning to really see Jonny, he goes and blows it, and now I just want to junk punch him. J.L. Ostle's super talented writing style definitely messed with me, as she transported me into their world, and my emotions are all kinds of raw now. Plus, I couldn't put this book down for anything, even for a breather. The twists and turns made for my potty mouth to be front and center, as I spent hours dropping f-bomb after f-bomb, and the only thing stopping me from really calling her some mean names is that I'm reading both stories together! So, there it is, as I'm off to read the next book, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND He Owns Me!
**I was given a copy of He Owns Me, and I am leaving an honest review**
Wow!!! I was completely drawn into this book. I really can't wait for more. I felt totally immensed into it from start to finish. J.L. Ostle has left me begging for more! He Owns Me leaves off on a major cliffhanger, and DAMN I can hardly wait to see what becomes of these two!
While reading He Owns Me, I went through so many emotions. The author wrote with such love, compassion, and vulnerability for the main characters that I felt so drawn in. I laughed, I cried, I rooted for them, I yelled at them! This was the first book from J.L. Ostle I have read. Yet, I plan to definitely read more!!! Her story line, and plot left me aching for more! The author reeled me in, I was hooked! I loved the journey these two experience. Their friendship, their love, then the ultimate betrayal....
Jonny and Raven have been BFf's for years. Yet, they both have their own secrets from the past, they keep hidden from each other. Secrets that refuse to stay in the past. These two have found that they complete each other. Giving each other exactly what the other needs.
Jonny is a sexy, hot, rich Dom. And Raven is beautiful, smart, and very foul mouthed. She has learned to not let people walk over her. The bond these two share is beautiful. The passion, and lust that ignited when these two are together is SMOKING HOT!!!!
I'm really hoping that these two characters, who have so much passion, chemistry, and love for each other can find their way back to each other. That they both get the HEA they deserve!
We're introduced to Raven, who tries to be darker than she is, because bullying; and Johnny, the best friend with whom she shares a very, very twisted relationship. There are a lot of themes undertaken; broken families; bullying at assault levels; a HUGE secret that remains secret for most of the book, and friendship, sexuality, and love between college students transitioning to adulthood. It might have been too much; while the characters are quite fascinating, some dialogue gets confusing, and the voices (alternate third person) are sometimes muddied and hard to parse out. The book has some spelling/homonific issues, but this is one that you wish you had part 2 for, already.
Merged review:

This book was given to me in exchange for a fair and honest review...... wow this is such an awesome young adult story.Centred around the twisted, friendship of Jonny, a rich, player with a dark and damaged history and Raven, a good girl who is forced to live a lie in order to conquer the demons from her past. He is possessive and protective of her and she believes he owns her but the strength of their relationship is there platonic friendship; which is threatened from outside influences as well as their own changing emotions towards each other. The end of their college years have arrived and both are set on separate paths which threaten everything that has drawn them together over the preceding 3 years.
The characters are wonderfully written, Jonny is dark but there is no doubting his loyalty and attraction to Raven.... she is his light and he in turn is her protector and salvation. In addition their best friends Caron and Alan add humour, compassion and light to their complex relationship. This is a story of love , loyalty, friendship and betrayal which ends in a cliffhanger.....I really loved this book and look forward to the next in the series ...
Two best friends who both have their own demons running from their pasts and afraid of embracing their future, together they've found their own little safe haven that's Raven and Jonny. Raven's a potty mouthed beautiful woman and Jonny's one sexy, dominant specimen of a man they're both damaged in their own ways. Together they share a special bond with intense chemistry but will they get their HEA or will fear get the best of them? This book was hot, sexy even a little funny at times, I may have blushed even fanned myself whilst reading it, yes there's a cliffy but it's soo worth it I can't wait to see what happens next. 5 well deserved stars.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book through Quill and Ink Review Team.
