Nah man I hate this and it will be going in the trash. I was excited to get a children's book ABOUT Cinco de Mayo and why it's important and celebrated. Not the case. Very bluntly put, it's clear this was written in the 70's, by an old white lady educator, about how colonist-minded schools celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Spare me.

Describes the commemoration of the victory of the Mexican army over the French army on May 5, 1862, a victory which signaled the end of foreign invasions of North America. This is a great history lesson children's book to learn about this war. If this were a standard that needed to be explored it could be through this children's book.

from p 11,12 "in a battle w/the french army the poor ragged mexican arm won a great victory. the victory helped drive foreigners out of north america." this line was written w/out irony (but w/proper capitalization).

Describes the victory of the Mexican army over the French army in the battle at Puebla. In due to this battle the holiday is now celebrated as Cinco De Mayo to honor the Mexican culture through food, music, and beverage unique to Mexico.
