Kira Brightwell never planned to become a private detective. Or a local hero, for that matter.
She only wants to hone her MMA skills. And focus on her own personal need for vengeance and closure. While listening to Nine Inch Nails.
But people call Kira a hero for a reason. She never walks away from trouble.
And between her wits and her fists, she can take down just about anything that gets thrown her way.
Meet Kira in action in this first novel in the Kira Brightwell mystery series by award-winning author, Jacquelyn Smith. If you love a clever heroine who kicks ass, grab this book. (Originally published under the pen name Kat Irwin.)
This title is also available as part of the First Blood Kira Brightwell Collection.
Jacquelyn Smith is a Canadian author from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, where apologies are a regular part of most social interactions, and the second ‘T’ in ‘Toronto’ is definitely silent. (Sorry.)
Jacquelyn originally published several of the earlier titles in the Kira Brightwell series under the pen name Kat Irwin before she finally decided to kill Kat off in an effort to eliminate the many awkward questions about having a second identity.
When spending time in the real world, Jacquelyn lives with her husband Mark, and their feline owner Xena, who is definitely a warrior princess.
I liked this book because the plot was different from anything I've read lately. Kira Brightwell had been abducted a few years ago and not only escaped, but freed the other girls who had also been taken. Now she works on her MMA skills and lives in La Valentia, California with a computer whiz roommate--Rob. Trevor Wright went to high school with them but wasn't part of their social group. Actually he bullied them. When he comes to Kira and begs for her help in finding his missing sister Stephanie, she reluctantly agrees only if Rob and her gym friend--Jeff Saunders can help. What ensues is an action packed adventure following clues to bring Stephanie home. This book was entertaining and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next!
Plausible, nerve-wracking, action packed and hard to put down. This story holds your interest with plot twists, some likable characters and some scumsuckers you'll love to hate. Highly recommended!
