Love and cosplay!

Hailey was making a change. She was tired of watching life happen to other people, and she was going use her love of costuming to break out of her rut! Only she's going to get more than she expected at a local convention when she meets a fellow cosplayer who takes her breath away and introduces her to a geeky world she never imagined!

Zoey needed a change. Stuck in a dead end relationship with a girl who she's pretty sure was cheating on her, the only good thing in her life was a charity group she ran with other cosplayers. She never thought going to another convention would change her life and break her out of her rut, but that was before she met Hailey and her world was shattered in the best way possible!

Two geeky girls who need a change. Two geeky girls who need each other. Two geeky girls whose love of cosplay just might spark love of a different kind!

Content Warnings up to 23%

DNF at 23% I have no clue how this could be characterized as a "sweet" romance; it's full of detailed depictions of creepy coercive people being terrible to the MCs. I highly recommend looking at the content warnings.

I love when Mia Archer writes about geeky things. Cosplay is one of the reasons to go to conventions - to see the costumes and the love of all things geeky. It's where we can find our own people and bask in the knowledge that we aren't the only people crazy for (insert your favorite comic/movie/tv show/book). It's at cons that we become one with our people, instead of the socially awkward nerd or geek that tends to talk too over-enthusiastically about something that "normal" people never get. Unfortunately, Archer's book also shows us the ugly side of cons - people who judge others for their costumes or appearance, the constant drain of interacting with everyone who wants a picture of the person in that awesome costume, and the crazy, human drama that occurs wherever more than two people congregate. Zoey and Natalie are at the end of their highly dysfunctional relationship, and things come to a head when Hailey enters the scene. Truly, all three of these women are kind of cray-cray, it's only a matter of degree. Natalie shows the classic signs of a narcissist, including the controlling nature that tells Zoey she's crazy for ever doubting her, despite all the clues that something is rotten in Denmark. Zoey has been gaslit (gaslighted?) for so long, that she doesn't trust her own judgment anymore, not to mention unresolved anger issues for the way she's been treated. And Hailey has her own social anxiety issues that make her uncertain and indecisive where Zoey is concerned. But the sweet part of the story is the connection between Zoey and Hailey, that makes both want to grow past their issues in order to find something worth exploring. A nice, sweet read.

I received an ARC of this book in order to review it.

Mia Archer's book are great especially the geeky romances and this one is no exception, the only problem is that they are too short. It always feels as though the story wishes to expand. Would love to see more character development and an ending beyond "and they all lived happily ever after". Still a cute book though.

Good!

This is a good little story about two geeky girls who meet at a video game convention, flirt a little, then one of the girl's girlfriend sparks a major conflict. If you like geeky girl-on-girl romance, put this book on your must read list.

Fun but short

Its a very cute, entertaining book but everything seems to happen in like warp speed... Would've loved if the author developed & expounded on the characters & the narrative more. But it was still an enjoyable read.

Women in Steampunk Anime cosplay flirting and falling for each other. What's not to like?
It was well written and the first book I've read in awhile that kept drawing me back to see what was going to happen next. A sweet, fun lesbian romance with enough geek culture to show that the author knows what she writes about. I highly recommend it.

Lesbians and cosplay. What else does it need?
A little drama, a lot of second and third chances. And cosplay.

I didn't like the character of jake. i would have preferred if he really was a friend who wanted her to be happy instead of a horny guy who wants to use her. otherwise i liked the story. the f word is used quite a few times in case that bothers you.
