All’s fair in love and war…and business, in this reader-favorite novel by New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis!

Kenna Mallory is loath to give up her hard-won independence, but when her father asks her to take over as VP of one of the family’s latest hotel acquisitions, Kenna can’t resist the opportunity to prove herself. The catch? She has to be the co-VP along with Weston Roth. With a name like that, Kenna is sure Weston must be old and doddering.

Wes is neither. And after years of working hard to get where he is, he doesn’t appreciate Kenna’s sudden arrival on the scene. Yet he can’t deny that she’s determined, smart, good with numbers…and nearly impossible to resist. Can he mix business with pleasure without losing everything he’s worked for?

This was cute. Dependably Jill Shalvis, with great characters and a good story. Love the way it played out.

I've been a fan of Jill Shalvis for years now and I have not come across any of her books that I did not love...this was no exception...the characters are always funny and very human and there is always some sort of growth involved in each one of the books I have read... Emma grew up with money but doesn't want to get a job just because of who she is but her Dad breaks her down to try out working for the family business...for a short while. This is where she meets her super hot coworker and they drive each other crazy until finally they submit to what they really want...you know the story. And yet, somehow it never gets old. Emma learns who she is and what she really wants out of life by taking on this challenge and you just have to love that sort of thing :)

It's hard to rate these little Harlequin stories more than 2 or 3 stars, to be honest. They are so short and superficial, but this was definitely a good one and I gave it 4 stars just because I ADORED the hero Jack - YUMM-Oooo!!!

I have had this book sitting on my kindle at least 5 years (since it is that long since I put any books on the old kindle) and it is nothing to do with the book that I haven't read it yet, it is the fact I started a blog about, oooh, 5 years ago and everything has just fallen behind!

Seduce Me is a cute, sweet, tender short read that I read in one afternoon.

I adore Sam and Jack (though it was hard to think of him sexily, as there is a 16 year old Jack Knight that I work with lol). I loved their banter, I adored them finding something more with each other.

It is hard with these little short stories, as they can seem very rushed, however this one did not feel too bad. They didn't jump right into bed, they weren't whispering I love you's by chapter 2.

I liked the story, I like the characters and the story line.

I had just finished Dealing with Annie which was published the same year as this one so I was fully expecting not to like this. Especially since it was an even shorter book, and my complaint with the other was the shortness and lack of connection. However I feel this book was done rather well with what little there is to it. While it's true the background of both the H/h are just hinted at, I think there was enough current chemistry there that backgrounds weren't really needed. I liked both characters and were rooting for them until the end. I agree with another reviewer in that compared to the rest the ending seemed rushed, but it was still fulfilling enough that I didn't feel shortchanged by the abruptness.

4.5, but I'm rounding up because I swooned all over myself with this book.

I've read a looo-hot of Jill's books, and while I love her books, they do have a certain formula to them. And though this one had a small glimpse of that (commitment phobes), it was a FRESH read. The UST was outta this world. Sam was unique, fun, ballsy, and not in a fake way. I truly loved her character. And Jack? He had me at 6'6". (ok, so he was way more than height, and truthfully would give Brady a run for his money in the swooniest Hero Jill's ever created). (also, what is it with her dumbest titled books being the best ones?!? See also: Animal Magnetism)

This baby is going on the reread list.

Sam dikenalkan pd Jack, mantan NBA star. Awalnya Sam pesimis hubungan mereka akan berhasil. Tapi tak dinyana, chemistry mrk sangat menyala-nyala 🔥🔥🔥

Spt biasa novel HQ spt ini so-so aja. Karakternya jg gak spesial walaupun pekerjaan Sam lumayan unik sbg peselancar. Tapi sbg koki masak, Sam adalah bencana berjalan. Lihat saja pas klimaks ceritanya.

Jack too good to be true, digambarkan dgn deskripsi top markotop fisiknya tapi langsung bucin di kaki Sam. Ya begitu deh.

Lumayan ajalah krn sdh lama gak baca genre spt ini. Mumpung masih fresh di IPusnas.

I am afraid to say that this was a very rare Jill Shalvis book that didn't make me feel anything. Not a thing, nada. It had all the ingredients of a straight-up, no frills short contemporary romance and I didn't not like anything about it ..... I just failed to engage with the characters and care about them.

3.0 - Voto

Okay, niente male come nome. «Sam O’Ryan.»
«Sì, lo so.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is a part of the Heat series but I believe they are related by a concept and not characters or events. It can be read as a standalone. In this book, Lorissa and Cole (friends of Samantha and Jake) have a relationship that I thought could possibly have been in a prior novel, but later realized it was not.
Samantha, or Sam, is set up on a blind date by her best friend, Lorissa. It is unlikely that Jack needed to have a blind date set up for him, but the author explains it that he was injured and has spent some time recovering. Their blind date was to a charity event which, in my opinion, is also an extra thing to ask someone to do in addition to the blind date.
Both Sam and Jack think of themselves as people who are not interested in commitments. Originally, this works for them both. Sam’s wariness goes back to her childhood as she lost her parents when she was 14. As the story goes on, they slowly begin to open up to each other. She decides not to have s*x with him as that is usually the point where she is done with the relationship. That allows the relationship to grow a bit first so when they finally consummate their relationship it has meaning that she is not used to but likes.
Jack had been a professional basketball player and, as a result, has had many people interested in him for his celebrity or his money. He realizes that Sam is not interested in him for that reason, and it allows him to give the relationship a try. I did think that a little more time could have been spent developing his side of the story.
In a nitpick, I thought it was unlikely that Sam would only have to pay $800 for two basketball lessons from Jack, a former professional basketball player. The charity event was at a country club with wealthy people there. I would have thought that the best prize of the evening would have gone for far more.
In addition, Sam kisses Jack several times on the dance floor. The lighting is described as dim but people would have seen them doing it. The press was in attendance so it should have been likely that they would have been seen and that pictures were taken but that did not happen. Jack said several times that he did not like to be a celebrity, wanted to avoid the press, etc. Other pictures were released.
Because of the short format of the book, the secondary relationships were developed but not as much as they could have been in a longer book. The pace of the story is good. The dialogue is realistic. The story is told from Sam and Jack’s point of view.
Sam is not good at making brownies and I thought that could have been eliminated in my point of view as it was a repetitive thing.
I will likely continue to read this author and, in this book, you can see her developing her style.

I've been a fan of Ms. Shalvis for several years now and have yet to read one of her books that I did not love.
This is a story about a boy growing up with nothing and making his own life better as well as his family. and a girl growing up with everything and not feeling as if she belonged in the family. So glad Kenna found her passion with the teen center and Wes was able to accept a little color in his life and they found each other.

Cute, fun read. Lot of humor in the book. The main character was shown to be a little off beat which made others think she was stupid. I liked how the author showed her strength and how she worked with it in a way that made you feel in touch with the character. There was a lot of it where I was smiling and if it wasn't so quite where I was reading probably would have been laughing out loud. One I would recommend to read to others.

Samantha O'Ryan lives life on her own terms. She surfs when she wants, owns her own beachfront sandwich place, and lives a simple and easy-to-maintain lifestyle above it. She dates casually when she wants, goes where she wants, buys what she wants. The only thing she can't do is bake brownies. And she's tried. Repeatedly. She doesn't do relationships - her choice. Losing her parents at a young age scarred her and she's never felt comfortable with commitment. The only two people she's close to is the uncle who raised her as best he could and the best friend she's had all her life. She'd do anything for either of them.

That's the only reason she ends up agreeing to a blind date even though her best friend Lorissa has set her up for some real doozies. There was begging. And pouting. And puppy dog eyes. She caved. When Jack Knight knocked on her door, though, it appeared her blind date luck had significantly improved.

Jack "Scandal" Knight retired from a highly successful basketball career after a crippling knee injury a year ago. Surgery gave him back the ability to walk, but years as the media's bad boy had him shunning the spotlight since then. Only a dedication to his sister and a desire to help her cause to aid underprivileged children caused him to need a date to a fundraiser. He didn't have high expectations for the blind date...or any, really. By the end of the night, though, he was smitten with the free spirited Sam. He knew he was in real trouble when her intention of keeping things casual bothered him in ways it never had before. Convincing the gun shy woman that he wanted to be in this for the long haul could prove more debilitating to his heart than a career in the NBA ever was to his body.

This light contemporary romance has all the earmarkings of a traditional Jill Shalvis novel: likable characters in realistic situations overcoming personal issues on their bumpy road to love. It lacked a little of the depth and complexity of some of her longer books, as one would expect, and I would have enjoyed a little more depth in both the characters and the plot, but Seduce Me does very well for itself as a Harlequin Temptation book.

I had a hard time warming up to Sam, though. I don't know if it was just that I had difficulty relating to the surfer girl who wears her bikini under everything from the ballroom to the bedroom and dumps any guy who she gets close enough to sleep with, or if I thought her character definition wasn't enough of an explanation for her personality, but something just didn't quite click with me in relation to her character. There were moments I liked her a lot, especially when she was helping out with the kids, but other times she left me cold. Jack, on the other hand, was the total pleasure package. He was an endearing charmer, especially when he was trying to learn to surf or calling Sam every day just to talk.

There isn't much in the way of groundbreaking fiction here, but it's a sweet, endearing romance that developed nicely over the course of the book. The characters were sufficiently developed and I appreciated the scenes where they were apart and dealing with secondary and ancillary characters, as it gave me a good glimpse of them outside of the parameters of the romance plotline. There were nice touches, like the daily phone calls and the dunking booth, that really made me smile, and I was pleasantly surprised that the affection between the characters was solidly based on genuine friendship and mutual admiration as opposed to simple lust. All in all a nice, pleasant, feel-good read without much in the way of surprises or serious conflict.

Despite her blond bombshell looks and family hotel dynasty, Kenna Mallory worked hard to get herself through college on her own dime after giving up her family's money to live life on her own terms. The last thing she wanted to do was step back into the ultraconservative family fold and take on the position of co-VP of her father's newest acquisition, but for the first time in her life, her father has asked her to accept the position for six months, not commanded. As the first and probably only chance Kenna will get to add a little personal color to her family's dour palette while finally gaining a little respect for her abilities, the offer is too good to pass up. She's even willing to put up with the sure-to-be-grim Mr. Weston Roth, a man with whom she will share position and power.

Wes is seriously put out and more than annoyed that the pampered princess daughter of the owner is being foisted off on him. He's been dedicated to the Mallory hotel chain for years and has worked his butt off to get to the position of VP for one of the new crown jewels, and the last thing he wants to do is vie for promotion with an airhead goddess flitting around on Daddy's dime. His first impression is quickly dashed, though, when Wes realizes that there is a keen brain and a dedicated workhorse behind the gorgeous face and colorful clothes, and Kenna's ideas for the hotel are both employee- and company-friendly as well as financially sound. Not to mention there's just something about her that gets Wes focused on all sorts of possible mergers and acquisitions.

What starts out in tense acrimony and false impression quickly grows into mutual respect and heated admiration, and a yearning beyond anything either Kenna or Wes expected.

I enjoy the light, fun romances of Jill Shalvis. She has a pleasant writing style that combines humor and romance, touches on serious themes to differing degrees, and provides solid entertainment. Natural Blond Instincts was no different. I thoroughly enjoyed Kenna's character, and appreciated that Shalvis stayed away from cliche and skirted stereotype with her blond bombshell, and didn't overly belabor her character's skill and financial acumen. It kept Kenna from being a joke. Yet there was just enough in Wes' reaction to her to touch on the very real stereotypes of money and beauty in corporate industry without being overdone.

There was a nice balance in the plot between Kenna's work at the hotel and the search for her joy, but I wish we'd seen a little more from Wes' point of view beyond his attraction to Kenna. He was slightly more one-note than I've seen in other Shalvis protagonists, and we didn't see much of him outside the job. I did appreciate that the arc of the romance didn't get bogged down in an overabundance of melodrama, however, and aspects of the journey to HEA were charming and endearing.

This was a shorter-length novel, and there were aspects of the plot and the flow of the story that were hampered by that shorter length, but it was a fun romance with many feel-good moments. It also provides readers unfamiliar with Shalvis' books a pleasant representation of her style and talent.

Adding Up to You is my first Jill Shalvis book but it won’t be my last. This story hit all the right notes for me for a modern romance. The characters were engaging making me want to care about them. Even the antagonists weren’t evil. Just annoying. The story was entertaining. I could hardly put my e-reader down wanting to know what happens next. There was some drama as there must be but it wasn’t overblown or too dark. And important to me, nothing that happened in the story was so over the top that it seemed implausible. Oh, and while there isn’t a whole lot of sex beyond steamy looks and racing pulses until towards the end of the book, what there was of it was plenty steamy.
Kenna Mallory was born to wealth. Her father owns a string of very high end luxury hotels and her mother is a world class surgeon. They’re both polish and class. Kenna their only child feels like she’s never really fit in. Where they’re contemplative, she’s impetuous. Where they’re conservative in both dress and thought she’s liberal and likes to dress in bright colors. She doesn’t even look like them. They’re dark haired and slim while she’s tall, blonde, built like a stripper, even taller than her father. About the only thing she shares with them is her father’s knack for numbers and business. These differences and their lifelong efforts to bring Kenna to conform to the Mallory way cause her to rebel as a teenager. In an attempt to bring her to heel they cut her off financially at 18 when she graduates high school. Rather than kowtow to their will Kenna builds a life for herself putting herself through college working a series of menial low paying jobs. As the story begins she’s working as an entry level clerk in the accounting department of Nordstroms in Santa Barbara. Her father offers her a high level position in his newest hotel opening in her hometown of San Diego. He wants to pull her into the family business so that she can be in charge of it when he retires. She’s reluctant to accept because she knows all too well the strings that are attached to the job offer. But when he offers her complete independence and a VP position her desire to prove to her parents that she can both be herself, do things her way and be a success overrides her fear of parental control and disapproval and she accepts his offer.
Wes is Kenna’s co-vice president at the new San Diego Mallory. At first glance he’s everything Kenna disdains about her father’s corporate atmosphere, dressed in a dark conservative suit like everyone else and too serious. Worse, just as Kenna makes snap judgements about him, he has already made snap judgments about her. He already assumes her a spoiled, entitled daddy’s girl and resents she’s handed a position equal to his own from the start while he’s had to work his way up from the bottom to get where he is. Now he sees nepotism pushing her ahead of him to the next step on the Mallory corporate ladder. Showing up late for their introductory meeting dressed in a funky fifties style glamour attire covering her rocking body and he adds blonde bimbo, to flighty, spoiled and entitled rich girl. These two seemingly polr opposites have to find a way to work together to get the newest hotel in the Mallory line up and running. Oh let the games begin!

Three and a half stars.

Fun read about two commitment resistant souls who stumble into someone worth committing to while on a blind date...

Samantha "Sam" O'Ryan loves her life as owner of a little beachside cafe, where she can swim or surf as she pleases. She definitely doesn't have room in her life for a man, not even the gorgeous Jack Knight, a friend of her best friend's boyfriend. She's not convinced even when she learns that Jack is a retired NBA star.

These two bruised souls discover a like-minded spirit in the other, and it's a joyful journey watching them get to where they're able to admit that it might be worth changing their stance on relationships for the other.

Ms Shalvis is a great writer, and brings these two's feelings to light with ease and charm.
