About the author

The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series.

Deze Lucky Luke zat vol met clichés van het Wilde Westen. Inclusief een verkiezingsstrijd die tegelijk een vete was, een tandarts met een creatieve manier van verdoven en veel (soms eigenlijk iets te veel) van Lucky Luke’s schietkunsten. Ik heb er van genoten.

I got this free because it came instead of the Cinebook edition and I wonder why a German ISBN doesn't start with a (978)3.........- then there's even a 71 after that non-sensical ISBN above within the barcode. There are even six prices for eight different countries on the back! I used this edition entry because the picture and publisher match.

I didn't feel like camera translating so I just read the Cinebook online and of course I really enjoyed it- especially because the cast is a marvelous parody of the historic situation!

Maybe it's because I never read this one as a kid, maybe it's because the script wasn't written by René Goscinny, but for me, O.K. Corral was an okay read at best. 2.5 stars I guess.

Cała przedstawiona tutaj historia zaczyna się od pomocy Luke’a przy spędzie bydła. W ten oto sposób dzielny kowboj trafia do miasteczka Tombstone, gdzie mieszkańcy niedługo będą wybierać burmistrza. Sprawa powinna dotyczyć tylko autochtonów, ale wszystko mocno się komplikuje i Luke będzie musiał wesprzeć jedną ze stron trwającej kampanii. Dla samotnego obrońcy sprawiedliwości, wybór mógł być tylko jeden, postanowił on wspomóc uczciwego kandydata. Nie jest to jednak „cnota”, na którą największą uwagę zwracają lokalni mieszkańcy. Kandydat nie spodobał się również lokalnym groźnym bandytom. Bohater przy wsparciu braci Earp oraz dentysty Doka Hollidaye’a musi więc zrobić wszystko, aby zwyciężyła sprawiedliwość. Ich potyczka z przeciwnikami zostanie owiana legendą i na stałe zagości w historii nie tylko Dzikiego Zachodu, ale całych Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki.

Duetowi Fauche-Adam udało się stworzyć niezłą porcję westernowej klasyki. Pokazane tutaj wydarzenia są dość dynamiczne i klimatyczne na dodatek poprawnie okraszone lekkim humorem. Twórcy postarali się również przemycić do swojego dzieła odrobinę „historii”, aczkolwiek z dość mocnym naginaniem niektórych faktów. Można więc stwierdzić, że całościowo pod względem fabuły komiks prezentuje się dobrze. Wielcy miłośnicy przygód LL, słusznie zauważą jednak, że nie jest to poziom prac René Goscinnego ze złotego okresu serii. Brakuje tutaj troszkę charakterystycznego dla cyklu „głębszego” przesłania czy bardziej wyróżniających się bohaterów (obok samego LL).

Niczego złego nie można za to napisać na temat warstwy wizualnej, która cały czas trzyma wysoki poziom. Morris był jednym z tych komiksowych artystów, którzy nie mieli większych wahań formy twórczej i większość jego dzieł prezentuje się wyśmienicie. Nie inaczej jest w przypadku tego albumu, którego kadry wypełnia prosta, ale bardzo przyjemna komiksowa sztuka, doskonale potrafiąca oddać klimat Dzikiego Zachodu.

Το 1997 κυκλοφόρησε η ιστορία των Fauche & Adam "Ο.Κ. Κοράλ" σε εικονογράφηση του Μορίς. Πρόκειται για την αληθινή ιστορία της φοβερής μονομαχίας μεταξύ του Γουάιατ Ερπ, των αδερφών του και του Ντοκ Χολιντέι εναντίον των αδερφών Κλάντον. Φυσικά στην συγκεκριμένη παραλλαγή της διάσημης καουμπόικης μονομαχίας πρωταγωνιστεί ο Λούκυ Λουκ που βάζει τα πράγματα στην θέση τους! Ωραία περιπέτεια με δράση και χιούμορ!
