Molly and the Cat Cafe by Melissa Daley is the first book of the Cat Cafe series. This is going to be another that I admit I did not look at closely before picking up and it took me by surprise. I’d received an invite for the second book of this series and as I’ve mentioned I don’t like jumping into things and since book two looked cute I tracked down book one and at first glance at these had thought they looked a bit cozy mystery-ish. Well instead of a mystery what I found is a contemporary story told from the point of view of Molly the cat and it turned into a wonderful read.
Molly had been a very spoiled feline living with her elderly owner and the two being inseparable. Unfortunately for both Molly and her owner as time passed her owner began having issues with her memory and her son decided it was time to move her into a care facility. The son was not a fan of Molly and re-homed her into a place with some big scary dogs in which Molly made the decision to set out to find a new wonderful owner of her own leading her to the doorstep of Debbie.
Now, having dealt with dementia in my grandmother the beginning of this one began really emotional rather quickly. The author did a wonderful job giving Molly a voice and writing from her point of view through all of her times including the tough beginning to the heartwarming end. The book is one that may bring tears and certainly some laughs along the way too with cat lovers nodding along to some antics. After this first book I’ll definitely be seeing what happens for Molly in book two.

This was such a lovely read. Molly has to find a new home when her owner begins to suffer with dementia. Initially she lives with a family with three dogs and soon wanders away to find somewhere else to live.
She ends up with Debbie who wants to set up a cat café. I know a friend who has visited one in Derbyshire and seen photos and thought what a wonderful idea it was. Molly is such a great character and you are longing for her to find a happy forever home.
This would make the perfect gift for the cat lover in your life. The cover is so inviting and the story contained within the pages really heartwarming.

Echt een heerlijk boek. Het verhaal leest ook vlot. Daardoor had ik het binnen een dag al uit. Dit is echt een verhaal voor kattenliefhebbers. Er is ook een deel 2. Die ga ik - ondanks dat het een kerstverhaal is - meteen hierna lezen. Ik zit nu nog in de sfeer van het eerste deel. Het leuke is dat ik in juli met een vriendin in een kattencafé ben geweest, dus ik kan me goed voorstellen hoe zoiets moet zijn. Een aanrader.

Contrary to all the positive reviews, I found this book incredibly boring..
I do like cats, I can even imagine a novel with a POV from a cat to be really good. In this book almost nothing happens, and if something happens, the author makes it sounds dull.
A novel where nothing happens can be great by all means, but this one is far from great.

I received an ARC copy from THE Book Club, many thanks for the opportunity.
This isn't the type of book that I usually go for but nevertheless I enjoyed it! Being a crazy cat lady who adopted a stray moggy myself, I appreciated the unusual and imaginative narrative told from the point of view of Molly the cat. The story was easy to follow and flowed perfectly, and I got through this in one sitting. A perfect feel-good and heart warming story to cozy up with on the weekend :-)

I am a cat fancier and I loved this book. yes thre were some parts that were less than factual. but still it was a good book. The only thing is, Molly is allowed to go outdoors. Ask any vet or cat caregiver and they will tell you, indoor cats live longer safer lives.
Still. I don't know if I'll read the second book of the series but I did enjoy the first one.

I rarely read feel good, warm fuzzy books, but for this I've made an exception, because of course, it's about a cat.
Books about cats, that's my warm fuzzy sof spot.
It turned out that I really needed to read such a book and maybe you do to ;)
The story is about Molly, a cat who is living with Margory, an older woman. But one day, Margory begins to suffer from dementia. There is a scene where the symptoms of this disease is really good explained. Not medical, but the emotional side of it. Due to an unhappy event, Molly survived a couple of weeks as a stray cat to find herself in a back alley. A woman, Debby and her daughter Sophie takes Molly in. Debbie has a hard time to fight for the surviving of her café. But then, thanks to Sophie and Molly, a new opportunity grows for Debbie. She only needs to take the jump...
'Molly's cat café' was a heartwarming story about a cat who got a second chance and changed in return other lifes.
The only thing that was a little annoying was the feelings of Molly were a bit humanized: f.e. using the word 'children' instead of 'kittens'.
On to the next book of Molly!

A beautifully written tail (get it)...
I loved reading Molly's story and it was quirky, delightful and thoughtfully written from the perspective of Molly.
As a cat cafe has been mentioned in my local area to open. I found it interesting how cats and food areas mixed. Although this is fiction, it was a wonderful read.

Jag var lite orolig över att det skulle kännas fjantigt med en katt som berättarröst - men det var ju alldeles ljuvligt!

Jag vill öppna ett kattcafé nu! Och skaffa kattunge (Puppi tittar dock på mig nu och skakar på huvudet.. han är bossen här hemma!)
Jag har alltid varit säker på att mina katter kan prata med mig och typ förstår allting, och den här boken gjorde det ännu mer självklart!

Katten als hoofdpersonage. Kan niet slecht zijn. Dit is echt zo'n boek waarbij je je verstand op nul moet zetten en echt gewoon moet genieten. Verwacht geen hoogvlieger maar dit echt gewoon een perfect boek wanneer je in een readingslump zit.

This was so cozy, cute and heartwarming! I wasn’t sure about how to feel about having a cat as the narrator but I got used to it and liked it a lot. I loved Molly! Overall it was a quick and easy read but nothing too special

Bij dit boek was het gelijk liefde op het eerste “cover” gezicht want hoe leuk ziet dit boek eruit! Daar wordt je toch vrolijk van? Ik kon dan ook niet anders dan ‘Molly & het kattencafé’ in mijn online winkelmandje gooien en thuis laten bezorgen.
Wellicht is dit verhaal niet voor iedereen weggelegd omdat niet iedereen van katten houdt of ze liever een ingewikkelder verhaal lezen? Maar het hoeft toch niet altijd hoogdravende lectuur te zijn? Soms wil je gewoon iets lezen waar je een knus gevoel van krijgt en als daar dan zachte fluffy dieren aan te pas komen is het wat mij betreft helemaal geslaagd.
De schrijfstijl van Melissa Daley is een factor die zeker zorgt voor die knusheid. Ze weet de kat Molly zo te beschrijven dat het een kattenpersoontje op zich wordt met deels menselijke eigenschappen die wel katachtig blijven en die je het liefst direct zou willen knuffelen. De mensen in haar verhaal hebben weer een heel ander soort herkenbaarheid met hun eigen problematiek waardoor je ook met hen meeleeft. Melissa weet op een natuurlijke manier de lezer mee te nemen in een verbondenheid met haar personages.
“Ik deed mijn best om haar te troosten en wreef mijn wang luid spinnend langs de hare, maar wist dat er iets grondig mis was, iets wat ik niet voor haar kon oplossen.”
Het overheersende gevoel in dit verhaal is hoop, ondanks dat de avonturen van Molly en van de mensen in het verhaal soms uitzichtloos lijken. Juist door die onderliggende hoop is het prettig lezen. Het geef nooit op gevoel wordt extra benadrukt en aan geslingerd. En dan wel op Engelse no-nonsens manier die past bij de nuchtere inslag van mij als lezeres.
“We stonden op een kluitje onder het spookachtige licht van een lantaarn in de deuropening van het café.”
Voor mij als ultieme kattenliefhebster is dit een ontzettend fijn verhaal! Het leest zo heerlijk gemakkelijk, laagdrempelig weg en is compleet geen uitdaging voor je hersenen. Maar juist daardoor een, wat mij betreft, uitstekend boek om mee te ontspannen. Een boek wat je in één ruk uit leest op een koude winterse avond (of elke andere avond) onder een warme deken op de bank en een flinke mok thee of warme choco binnen handbereik. Een boek wat het feelgood genre eer aan doet!

Wow. Amazing read.
I loved the story and the characters.
Molly the cat was a delight.
This is a feel good read.
Although it was moving and sad.
when Margery was put in a home.
When she was forgetful.
I liked Debbie and John.
Didn't like Rob.
I liked the ending.
What a lovely read.
This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book.
Definitely worth more than 5 *.

I loved this book, I fell in love with the lovely little molly and while reading the book it was so well written that it made me feel sorry for the cat and want to take her in myself!! I loved the way it ended it was a lovely ending for a lovely book

Like a proper feelgood, this was heart aching to read. The story about Molly and Margery is way too common and I couldn't help but feel sorry for all the cats out there, losing their homes and their loved ones. Perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive since I just brought home a kitten, but looking at him and thinking about all cats out there being treated like Molly (or worse!), it's heartbreaking.
Molly is a bit more intelligent than your average cat. Daley clearly tries to balance her anthropomorphic traits so that it's still believable, but she fails from time to time. Mostly it's Molly's romantic feelings for another cat that disturbs me. If I want to see a cat romance like that, I'll watch Aristocats. It did not belong here.
There's other things too that feels a bit off, mostly about the cat café, but I think Daley explained herself rather well in the afterword.
Both the title and the cover of the Swedish version are my favorites, it proves how important those things are. The books just got translated and they fit perfectly with the popular genre of Jenny Colgan and Lucy Diamond.

Let’s talk about the plot:
Okay, so I kind of knew what was going to happen in this book, having read its sequel first, but nonetheless I was so excited to read this! And it made me so emotional, seeing all these characters again, especially Molly. She’s definitely become one of my favourite fictional felines! It’s such a great read, easily something I would read over and over again. I can definitely say its more character orientated than plot, having been told from Molly’s perspective, but even as the story unfolded and I knew what would happen, I was still on the edge of my seat throughout: and there was never a dull moment!
Let’s talk about the characters:
Molly, our narrator, is a tabby cat who goesthrough it all! I was feeling so much for her thtoughout, I loved reading about her life before she met Debbie, and how much she grew through the book, as well as her observations on everything. She was written so well! I wish the book was more than a duology, I need more Molly in my life 😂. Honestly, I can’t rave enough, Molly was just the perfect narrator, and I really love her character! I don’t want to spoil it, because I think everyone should read it, but Molly goes through so much and develops of course not only as a cat but as a character too! I definitely was left wanting more, but I know I’ll re read the sequel at Christmas 😂 I loved especially Molly’s intereactions with Debbie, I love how much Molly loved and cared and understood her! I felt like the loyalty of Molly really shone through the book, I could picture her every movements and hear all her purrs. There was one scene towards the end, she made me laugh so much, I could just picture her expression, it was brilliant! And at the very end I definitely felt so proud of her and how far she’s come, and nostslgic too, having come full circle with Molly. I definitely think there’s plenty of potential though for more books with these characters, and they’re definitely among my favourites for that reason. I haven’t read anything like this before and doubt I will again!
Debbie, I practially squealed when I saw her in this book for the first time, I loved her character in book 2, but even more so in book 1, it shows us how far she’s come! I was with her every step and cheering her on, she had been through so much in the past, we definitely learn to the extent of what, but despite all this she’s such a treasure! She’s kind and caring and only wants what’s best for her daughter and Molly. I loved Debbie’s interactions with Molly, and loved the awkward scenes with potential partner John. Molly intervened here for the better, and it was fabulous! I also loved how accepting Debbie is of Molly’s previous owner, something happens towards the end of this book which leaves a catalyst for the events of book 2.
There’s plenty of other colourful characters, both human and feline: Sophie, Debbie’s teenage daughter, I loved her growth through the book, and also Jo, Debbie’s closest friend, she named one of Molly’s kittens, and knowing what happens in book 2 that is definitely such a precious moment!! And I loved meeting John again, he’s so lovely! I only lamented lack of Jasper, a tom cat of significant proportions to Molly, but again, I couldn’t worry too much because of what happens in book 2.

Melissa Daley combines laughs, love, feels and sometimes suspense in this beauty and it’s something I’ll always recommend to everyone!

A captivating story told from the point of view of Molly the cat, who sets off on a journey seeking a new home when her beloved owner is taken into care suffering from dementia. After various adventures, Molly finds a safe haven with Debbie and her daughter, Sophie, who run a run-down cafe in the picturesque Cotswolds.
This is a heartwarming and charming tale tinged with a smattering of sadness. Molly is a delight, such a beguiling creature, and I enjoyed following her trials and tribulations. The author knows her cats - their habits are well depicted. It's beautifully and imaginatively written, so easy to visualise. I love the idea of a 'cat cafe' having two cats myself.
An entertaining and enchanting read which should appeal to feline fans everywhere!

Enjoyed this book. It was a comfort blanket. It was clean warm pyjamas after a luxurious bubble bath before getting into a bed of freshly laundered sheets. It was a Malteser melting in your mouth as the honeycomb won the battle over the chocolate. It was smiley, cuddly and as uplifting as an underwired, re-enforced, super duper double elastic strapped Playtex X your heart bra. I did worry a little initially that I was reading a book about a talking cat - but why not? Delight in the diversity of new genre's I say! Why not Kit Lit?! Beware Chapter 32 however, particularly if you're feeling a tad emotional. Whether or not it was to do with Sarah Brightman singing Pie Jesus on Sky Arts quietly in the background who knows, but my goodness, I do believe I shed tear! Nice one Melissa...

After weeks of reading psychological thrillers and police / crime novels, this was just what the doctor ordered. Light hearted, romantic and lovely, this story is cleverly told from the perspective of Molly, a much loved kitten who finds herself on an adventurous journey from one home to another. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended. Thank you to Helen Boyce of THE Book Club and the publishers, for allowing me to have this lovely paperback in return for a review.
