I had a lot of fun with this book! I have had a review copy of this book for a long time but somehow I always seemed to skip over it when it was time to pick up a new book. I really have no idea why it fell off my radar. I love romantic suspense even though I don't read a ton of it anymore. I also love books that have dogs worked into the story and animals play a huge part in this tale. I am so glad that I finally decided to give this book a try.

I really liked Macayla. I can't remember ever reading a book that featured a pet detective before but I loved that aspect of the story. Mac finds lost pets and seems to have a real knack for it. She is really great with animals and works hard to rescue them when they are lost and scared. She's made a few enemies by standing up for local animals but it is worth it in her eyes.

Mac meets Oliver while she is trying to coax a scared dog out from behind a dumpster. Oliver handles a K-9 Search and Rescue dog and is one of the owners of a company specializing in the task. He can't help but go to help the lady he sees hanging out by the dumpsters. Before a lot of time elapses, he jumps in to save the day and is pulled into the events happening in Mac's life.

I really liked Mac and Oliver together. I thought that they had great chemistry and were both very competent individuals. I liked that they were both able to help each other and they were both very willing to do so. Their relationship moved quickly but I thought that it felt realistic.

I would recommend this book to others. I thought that it was a really well done romantic suspense with great characters that both had intriguing backstories and a healthy enough dose of doggie antics to keep the animal lover in me happy. This book is the sixth book in the K-9 Rescue series but I had no issues reading it as a stand-alone although now I really want to go back and read some of the earlier books from this series.

I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.

Initial Thoughts
I liked this book. I was in the mood for a lighter romantic suspense and this book filled that need perfectly. Mac's back story was interesting and I liked that she worked as a pet detective finding lost pets. What a great job! Oliver was great and I loved the way he couldn't help but get involved in helping Mac out. I liked their chemistry and thought that they made a great team. This is the sixth book in the K-9 rescue series but I read it as a stand-alone and it worked just fine.

Physical Forces is book 6 in the K-9 Rescue series by D.D. Ayres and the first book I’ve read by this author. The book can be read as a standalone.
A pet detective and a partner in a K-9 search and rescue company. What’s not to love about that? Or about the way they initially meet. I laughed so hard. LOL!
I found both Macayla and Oliver likable and their actions and reactions believable considering their backstories. And I loved the close bond between Oliver and his Australian shepherd and K-9 partner, Jackeroo.
Though the story started out a bit slow, it really gained momentum as it progressed. I was quite surprised to find out who was the guilty party when it came to the mystery part of the story.

5 STARS FOR THE HUMOR, HEAT AND HEART!

This is the story of . . .
Macayla “Mac” Burkett, pet detective and Oliver Kelly a visiting K-9 Search and Rescue operative.

Mac’s made a name for herself as a pet detective, she finds lost or runaway pets for a living. While on a case to recover three greyhounds, she witnesses a murder that puts her front and center of a conspiracy. When rumors abound regarding her true motives and cast suspicions on her success rate, Mac founds herself trying to uncover the real culprits of a ring of pet thieves that are out to frame her.

Bumping into hotter than hot Australian Oliver Kelly isn’t on Mac’s radar. But there is something about him that gets under her skin. Giving into their attraction and finally letting herself explore a moment in time away from her fears and self-recrimination leads to a chance at a happily ever after with a man willing to fight by her side.

Oliver and his loyal Australian shepherd, Jackeroo are no strangers to danger and realize there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to quirky Macayla. Oliver didn’t plan on falling for her or anyone for that matter, but he recognizes that Mac’s the real deal and no matter what she says, she needs someone to have her back and he’s more than willing to prove to her just how much her trust means to him.

What I loved:
I’m a sucker for teasing banter, sexy flirting and engaging humor and Physical Forces knew just how to deliver all three. I also really fell for both MCs.

I loved that Oliver was easy to smile and hard to push away (although Mac does make a decent effort to distance herself – for like a minute!) but also how ready he was to come to Mac’s aide. Even when they were separated, she stayed at the forefront of his mind. After reading a lot of brooding/damaged H’s it was nice to read about a guy who didn’t let his less than perfect past stand in the way of being happy.

And Mac was a gutsy h who could hold her own when it came to Oliver. She was the all-or-nothing type but never crossed that TSTL line. It was fun to watch her let her guard down with Oliver and both of them being able to easily trust the other with their most vulnerable sides. A story is good when you can feel the spark of chemistry between the MCs and the heat packed in this is sexy hot! It was made great because it wasn’t all physical between Oliver and Mac, that was just the icing on the cake. They also get to know each other outside the bedroom, they share their lives and develop intense feelings for each other that makes for a believable HEA.

I loved Oliver and Mac so was sad to see it end, wish it could have been longer only because I wanted to keep reading about these two and Jackeroo and of course Pickle too!

Memorable Moment(s):
For me the most memorable moment was their first meeting. It set the tone of the book for me. It showed Mac’s confidence in her line of work, her generosity and bravery. It gave us a taste of Oliver’s outrageous sense of humor but also his protectiveness towards Mac. I really didn’t laugh about Mac’s assumption that the Australian hottie was actually a dancer for Thunder from Down Under. Of course Oliver plays along for the fun of it and it was funny all the way around.

The second most memorable moment is the heart to heart Oliver and Mac share at their second meeting. Their relationship becomes more than just physical. Oliver shares his love of his partner Jackeroo and the important work that they do together. And also when he talks to Mac about his fear of public speaking and his dyslexia. It was a touching moment where we see them forming deeper feelings for each other.

Favorite Lines:
“The past is always relevant.”

“I have responsibilities, animals to take care of.”
The old twinkle in his blue eyes flashed to life. “I’m an animal. You could feed and pet me.”

This book had plenty of dogs, a hot Australian hero, a heroine that doesn’t want to be consider heroic, and plenty of mystery.

Oliver finds Mac dumpster diving and assumes the worst. She is aware that the Thunder from Down Under are in town for a show and she absolutely does not want anything to do with him. Unfortunately for her, she can’t get rid of him as trouble seems to keep popping up all around her.

This was a relatively slow book and the first half was hard to feel the connection between them. As the story progresses I became a bit more invested but to be honest there were plenty of places where I skimmed. I wanted to love this book. I mean, who wouldn’t? It has dogs! And a hot Australian! Perhaps I just wasn’t in the right head space for it.

There is a pretty good little mystery and I was surprised to a certain degree when the culprit was revealed. Characters from a previous book had a few cameo scenes which you may enjoy if you’ve read that story. It was just an average read for me and I hate saying that but there it is.

Macayla Burkett is a pet detective, amongst other things she finds lost or stolen pets as part of a PI business. It wasn't always that way, she worked for child services until an incident caused her to reassess her priorities. As the book starts Mac witnesses a violent altercation whilst searching from some missing greyhounds.

Oliver Kelly is an Australian, he is co-owner of BARKS, a K-9 Search and Rescue business, with Kye McGarren (the male lead in Rival Forces). He is in Florida to speak at an SAR seminar. Running along the beach with his K-9 partner Jackeroo early one morning he sees what he thinks is a homeless woman dumpster diving for food. Of course it isn't a homeless woman, it's Mac trying to coax a Pomeranian out from under the dumpster. Soon Oliver is helping Mac get the Pom, chase off two thugs who attack her car with baseball bats, and strong-arm her obnoxious neighbour -all before lunch!

This book has a slow build up, at first I thought maybe this was less about the dog or the plot and more about the slow burn romance. Both Mac and Oliver feel undeserving of love and have feelings of inadequacy. Mac in particular fears getting close to anyone again.

But then, just over halfway, BOOM! Everything kicks off and all the little clues that have been inserted into the plot start to pull together. I thought I had sussed the guilty party and the reason for the crime early on but it turns out I was more wrong than right - so that's nice, I always feel let down if I guess the plot.

So if your idea of a hero is an Australian Adonis with a man-bun (who could double for a stripper), who loves dogs and rescues people for a living, look no further.

I get the impression this might be the last of the K-9 rescue series (I could be wrong). If so, it was a good note to end on. D.D. Ayres gave us a bombshell of a have-a-go heroine who also loves dogs.

This was a surprisingly cute story about a pet detective, Macayla, who witnesses a murder while searching for greyhound racing dogs. Now she has someone trying to frame her and the very sexy Oliver comes to her rescue.

It started out as just a cute story that turned into more towards the end. Oliver is part of a big shot, search and rescue team. He's in town for a conference and finds Mac crawling around a dumpster. He mistakes her for a bag lady searching for food when really she's just trying to coax out the terrified Pomeranian who's been missing from his family. That leads to him defending her against the punk kids beating up her car to him trying to help her solve who's framing her.

I liked this story a lot more than I thought I would. I first thought the story was fun but a bit silly. The more I read the more it sucked me in. The story got more deep and the sex scene in the ocean was bold and impressive.

This is a series but can be read as a standalone. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Search and rescue meets a pet detective…

This is the sixth book in the K-9 Rescue series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Macayla Burkett is hiding from her past and working as a pet detective for a private investigations firm while she recovers from the tragedy of a year before. She’s isolated herself from family and friends, not forming lasting relationships. Seeking two stolen racing greyhounds one night she captures violence on video bringing memories she hasn’t dealt with to the surface, were it not for the sound of approaching sirens she might’ve become another victim, the dogs were unfortunately found dead.

Dumpster diving to recover a missing Pomeranian Macayla meets a gorgeous man who has to be a stripper with the body and looks that he has. His long blond hair reminds Macayla of Thor. Next thing she knows he helps her against men vandalizing her car without being asked. She’ll admit to lust for the sexy man with an Aussie accent but she’s got too much to deal with for even one night with a stripper who’ll be gone in days. Or does she? Later in a hotel she sees his picture on a sign for a search and rescue conference and learns she’d judged him wrong and he let her believe it. She can’t help talking to him when she sees him there and it’s in the nick of time for he’s not having a good day at the thought of making a presentation in front of so many people.

As co-owner of a search and rescue firm Oliver Kelly is in Florida to promote the business. His partner usually does the marketing work but wasn’t available for this trip. He’s in a panic about what he has to do when he sees the cute perky pet detective in front of him, he grabs onto her for dear life. Strangely enough it was the best thing he could have done, her empathy gave him strength. There’s no denying the chemistry between them but that’s not the reason he keeps thinking about her after he leaves, he truly enjoyed being with her. When he learned that she’d landed in serious trouble he returns to help. Something about the quirky woman presses all of his buttons including some he didn’t know he had.

This was my first time reading this author and I quite enjoyed the read. There was a mystery to solve and a suspenseful plot with someone out to get the heroine but why is the question. Will they make the connection in time? I loved that dogs were included in the storyline, animals tend to bring smiles with their behaviors. Macayla seems to be a magnet for trouble and a great advocate for animal rights. The protagonists have relatable issues and they helped each other heal, their dynamics were entertaining. As they slowly got to know each other from their inner thoughts each doubted themselves but they needed to see where what was between them could go. You never know when you’ll meet that one person that changes your outlook on everything.

+++ I was invited to view this ARC through NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it +++
I liked this story, its characters (including the dog, Jackeroo) and setting, the author wrapped it all up (including the Florida weather conditions) nicely.
The heroine, Macayla, is likable, a bit naive and not the usual glamorous stunning woman. She’s still dealing with a recent tragic event and a loss. I was completely surprised by her job and enjoyed that part.
I loved the hero, Oliver, but missed having more of him (and less of the heroine). He’s an Australian big man, bearded and with long hair. He’s loyal, charming and confident, but has this secret that makes him nervous in certain circumstances and that was cute (of course, the heroine saves the day). A hunk showing vulnerability is, well… endearing.
While I liked the suspense part with all its dog-related matters, I’d have preferred a romantic plot more developed. However, I appreciated the fact that while the hero hasn’t had significant relationships before, he acknowledges his feelings for the heroine and there are no needless misunderstandings between them.

What a fun book it was !

As a pet detective, searching for lost, runaway or abducted animals, but also a dog trainer and petsitter, Macayla Burkett probably spend more time with four legs creatures than humans. She doesn't really have friends and even if she mix with animals at work, there's a reason why she doesn't want one as a pet.

Three weeks ago, when looking for possible kidnapped dogs, the heroine witnessed a crime, but the police didn't find evidences. Her life take a different turn when she meet Oliver Kelly, a flirty Aussie with a killer smile and Godlike muscles. They both let appearance and their first impression cause a misunderstanding between them, but not the awkward/bad way, the one who bring amusing situations.

In town to give a speech he absolutely doesn't want to do for the International Professional Search and Rescue conference to talk about his job as a K-9 handler, the last thing Oliver expected was to find a woman who would make him forget he's not the settling down type. Haunted by a tragedy he couldn't prevent and a limitation he hide, the teasing man who give the impression of not taking things seriously can't help wanting to protect the woman to whom misfortunes happen at the same time. And when rumors start to hurt her business and get her in trouble, they'll have to find who's trying to frame her.

Physical Forces is book 6 of the series and my favorite. I swear it doesn't have to do with the hero's Aussi accent even if it was swoon worthy ;p I think it's because it was the funniest, but also the way the relationship between Oliver and Macayla unfolded. It was sweet, natural and fun. The misunderstanding brought a light ambiance and I felt a vacation vibe to the story. Don't go thinking it wasn't serious and there was no mysteries. It just come later in the book, but it wasn't a bad thing because it gave us time to learn more about the characters, their pasts and like Macayla discovered, behind Oliver's potent sexiness there's a different man inside, more complex but just as lovable.

I really liked how the heroine reacted when she learn who Oliver is and how she helped him.

I particularly liked this quote : "One bark for egg-white omelet. Two barks for pancakes and ham." Jack barked twice. Who said dogs didn't understand words?

And this moment : "Oliver pulled her in. She hesitated only a moment before going willingly in against his warmth. She shivered against him, shoulders heaving though she made no sounds. He held on tighter, as if he could absorb her pain and anguish into his own bigger, sturdier frame. She was small, but not delicate. There was a lion in this woman. When it had come roaring to life, she had scared herself. That's what people forgot about bravery. It wasn't about not feeling fear, as everyone else did. It was feeling the fear, and acting anyway."

Macayla (Mac) Burkett is a pet detective. She hasn’t always been one. She has a past that has left her emotionally scarred and caused her to distance herself from people. She is passionate about her job.

Oliver Kelly is Australian (love that accent!) and a world renown K-9 Search and Rescue trainer. He is a self-made man who overcame a learning disability. He is kind, loyal and very hard working. Loved that he is very tall and has long hair and a beard! Jackeroo, his K-9 partner, is awesome.

When these two meet, he thinks she’s a bag lady and she thinks he’s a stripper with the Aussie male review.

We spend more time with Mac by herself than with them together. As with the last book, these two need to spend more time together. The ending is abrupt. Nothing was settled, just kind of thrown out there as a possibility. I was like WTH?! I wanted and expected so much more. There is more suspense than romance.

This is my third book in this series. The stories aren’t bad, they just need more development. And this one felt a little choppy.

Loved! Another winner in the K-9 Rescue series! This book introduces us to Macayla, a pet detective who has run away from her life and barely getting by finding lost pets. Oliver finds her scrounging around a dumpster and immediately jumps to the wrong conclusion and offers to buy her breakfast. She thinks he's a stripper and isn't interested. Instant and totally wrong impressions lead to some interesting and entertaining interplays between them.

Oliver is actually a partner in BARKS, a canine search and rescue company. Macayla is actually a social worker with a much lauded history.....until it's used against her. Oliver tries to help her and ends up in the thick of things.

This is a wonderful book that fans of the genre will love. I particularly enjoyed the insight into SAR dogs and the bond between handler and dog. This in another winner in a series of winners. While it is part o f a series, it is a stand alone novel - however, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Review copy was received from Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I liked the inclusion of more actual work with dogs although not exactly K9 aspects.  I did enjoy the connection to the rest of the series, even though it was small.  Kye and Yardley were here a bit, which is appropriate for the last book in the  K9-9 Rescue series.

Mac is a "pet detective" for a private investigation firm.  She finds lost pets.  She also works at a veterinarian grooming dogs. She has moved away from her original career and family after a traumatic event. She is struggling to build a new life.

Oliver is the partner of Kye in a K9 SAR business. Oliver is enjoying his life and success. He runs into Mac when she is working on the job and has a bit of trouble. He helps out, which she insists isn't necessary, but he is a big help. Once Oliver has helped he can't seem to stop helping.  He is only in town for a conference but wants to know Mac better.

Their attraction is sizzling and they do help each other. Mac continues to have issues.  Oliver helps until he leaves town for a new mission.  Someone(s) is out to get Mac and she can't seem to catch a break, other than the hunk of sexy man who is eager to assist.

I loved the banter, the work with dogs and the suspenseful mystery. Both Mac and Oliver have personal growth as they deal with their feelings and their careers. I always enjoy that.  Physical Forces is one of my favorites in the series and I'm sorry to see the end of the series.
 Narration:
Jeffrey Kafer is the voice of this series. He is also a talented narrator I always enjoy.  I enjoyed his voice for Oliver though of course, I don't know if it's correct or not.   I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

A pretty good story. Macaulay is a pet detective, she rescues lost animals. And Oliver works for a search and rescue unit and has a faithful K-9 partner Jackeroo. The first time Mac meet's Oliver she mistakes him for a stripper, he so "hot", and he thinks she was dumpster diving for food, it was quite funny.
The story progresses into more serious matters however when Macayla is accused of petnapping her for money, and the thrills and intrigue are abound.
I found the story a little choppy at times and the suspense rating was very low. I did enjoy the book but would have liked a more intense storyline.

Disappointed! Choppy writing. Very little substance to the mystery plot, easily resolved, too pat. Poor character development added to this was the frustration of the unrealistic Australian speech patterns. (The only other person who speaks like our hero is Crocodile Dundee.)

Physical Forces is another installment of D.D. Ayres’ K-9 Rescue Series but it is a standalone read. This time, the focus is on Search and Rescue Guru and Aussie Oliver Kelly who becomes enamored with Pet Detective Macayla “Mac” Burkett while he is in Florida to speak at a SAR conference. Thinking that Mac is a damsel in distress, Oliver quickly comes to her rescue and soon learns that the petite and outspoken woman is nothing like the women that usually throw themselves at his feet. She doesn’t want his help and actually believes that he is a member of an Australian Exotic Dance Troupe. Although they clearly have some physical attraction to each other, Mac makes a failed attempt to keep Oliver at bay. More importantly, we soon find out that Mac’s life is in danger and she is being set-up to take the fall for crimes she didn’t commit.

The overall premise of Physical Forces isn’t unique. The only thing that stops it from being totally cliché is the fact that it was at least a very fun book to read. Both Mac and Oliver have some secrets in their past that eventually come up to the surface which allow them to get closer to each other. Things happen so fast that it’s not totally believable, considering the way that they met. Oliver allowed himself to be vulnerable with Mac and she opened up to him and stopped hiding from who she was. To take things up a notch, most of the sex occurs outside of a bedroom and is definitely hot. There is a little bit of mystery and suspense to add to the story and I didn’t exactly like the way that it all wrapped up. I felt like Oliver’s character and his expertise should have played a larger role but…I did enjoy Physical Forces but I felt like it could have had a little more depth to it. I have read a few other books in this series which I felt were more complete.

Physical Forces by D.D. Ayres
K-9 Rescue #6

Having read the blurb for this book I thought of other canine detective cozy mysteries I have read and knew that this book would not be like any of those. Why? Because the author of this series deals with issues that are a bit more intense and a whole lot more real. So, with that said and knowing I have liked every book I have read by this author, I was more than ready to read and enjoy this story – and I did just that while getting to know Mac and Oliver and Oliver’s K-9 partner, Jackeroo.

Macayla “Mac” Burkett is a Pet Detective/PI who finds lost, runaway and abducted domestic animals. She is very good at what she does but takes on other side jobs to augment her income. When Oliver Kelly, Australian co-owner of *BARKS, and Mac first lay eyes on one another they both make assumptions that are dead wrong about who/what the other person is. From their first encounter to Oliver’s stepping in to help Mac out of a situation or two and then her return of the favor later on when he faces something he is dreading they seem to have an affinity and attraction that is rather strong – though neither really expects more than a brief encounter due to the limited time Oliver is in town. Add into this the fact that someone is setting Mac up for dog-napping, extortion, the fact that her life is in danger and other issues from the past that they are both dealing with and you end up with a complex well written novel that is action-packed, intriguing and at times steamy. Catching up with some of the characters (briefly) from previous books was also fun. I am hopeful this will not be the last book in the series because I want to know that this HFN story has a HEA ending in the future…along with wanting to read another K-9 Rescue love story.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – this is my honest review.

I enjoyed this installment in the K-9 Rescue series. Oliver is such a joy, with his good looks, strength and sense of fun. The glimpse of vulnerability only made him more desirable. Macayla is feisty and self-confident, without being pushy. I loved her personality and how she fit so well with Oliver. She did a few things that belied her intelligence and made me squint – but other than that, the story was good. A fun, fast-paced, who-done-it, that made me read it in one sitting.

This was actually a surprise book for me. The widget was mailed to me like two weeks before the book was about to released. And it is the 6th book of the series! I think i panicked when i looked it up on GoodReads. I immediately mailed Ms. Justin regarding the reading order of the book. I thank the gods because I do not have to read the other books in the series.

This is a new author for me, so why not. I loved how this was written though.

Each page is filled on how Macayla and Oliver go about their lives. It did not contain too much thought. It had the right amount of narration and the characters thoughts on the event that are happening around them. I was delighted with Oliver's thought. Combine the Aussie accent, it was truly an enjoyable story.

The plot behind it was interesting. So is Oliver's predicament. But what I love about the book was Jack. Oliver's dog. Yes, him. You need to read it to know.

I rate this 4.5 due to the fact that it was not an overwhelming book. It is the 6th book and yet, I like that I can read it with reading the start of the series.

Physical Forces (K-9 Rescue #6) by D.D. Ayres , is the latest book in the series. The characters are simple and not very complex, although both Oliver and Macayla have personal secrets that they hide. I had a hard time connecting with Macayla in the beginning of the book, but as the story developed I found that quickly changed. I loved Oliver from the get go.

The writing is descriptive, with several themes adding dimension to the overall story. The chemistry between Oliver and Macayla, almost seemed like “insta-love” vs a slow build up with some tension. Neither character was looking for that special someone, and what could have been a one-nighter with an outa-towner turned into so much more.

The story is complete, no cliff hangers, there’s a bit of humor along the way, no excessive violence and reminded me of a Hallmark movie. I enjoyed the story, and wish to thank the Author, Netgalley and St. Martin's Paperbacks, for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

The book’s publication date was May 30th, 2017 and is available in Kindle and paperback.

For me this was a 3 star read.

I enjoyed this one! It's a bit different and slightly silly at times but it was very entertaining. Macayla Burkett is working as a pet detective. What exactly is a pet detective you ask? She spends her days looking for lost pets and returning them to their owners. While searching for missing greyhounds, she witnesses a violent incident. She doesn't realize how much trouble she's stumbled upon until she finds herself as a target. Oliver Kelly is a world renowned SAR specialist. When he first sees Macayla digging through the dumpster he assumes she's hungry and offers to buy her breakfast. The reality is she's trying to coax a pup out into the open. Macayla takes one look at Oliver and assumes he's a male stripper. And this is how their fun and crazy relationship starts. It's all fun until they both realize that Macayla is in danger.

I have to admit being from Tampa it was fun reading about all the places around the area. Still the story itself was entertaining and I would recommend this one.

Physical Forces (K-9 Rescue #6) by D.D. Ayres
4 stars
M/F Romance
Triggers: Animal and People murder
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Oliver is an Aussie who is working and finds himself entangled with Macayla. He is intrigued by her, respects what she does and is also kind of baffled by her. He has a sexy accent and a killer body. He also know how to search out and find people in dire situations.

Macayla is a hero, who doesn't want to be known as a hero. She wants to live her life and find missing animals. However, in the process of locating prized greyhounds, she witnesses a murder.

What ensues is a tale that's twisted, romantic, messy and fun. The two characters are different, but attracted to each other and they find that their ability to think alike, love animals and throw themselves in to dangerous situations is what might keep them together.

#6 in the K-9 Rescue romance series

I've very much enjoyed this series and am sorry to see it end. It has been fascinating to learn more about the K-9 programs with various organizations, this most recent book focused on global SAR. Macayla and Oliver meet when he finds her on a search in her pet detective role. But things become much more complicated than a quick romance when she finds herself being framed for theft and dognapping. The mystery was interesting, with an exciting action-packed scene to round things off. Throughout the book there was plenty of witty banter (especially the part where she assumed he was part of the Thunder Down Under stripper group since he had an Australian accent). And lots (and I mean lots) of very sexy scenes, often in a unique location. Jackeroo is Oliver's SAR dog, and it was fun when he inserted himself into various scenes; he was definitely a strong character in the book. I will definitely look for more from this author.

I have read many books. I have never read one where a pet detective is involved. No, it's not like the movie (many thanks). Very cute read.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I liked Oliver, but had a hard time warming up to the heroine. I just didn't understand her cutting off her parents and everyone in her life. It was hard to relate to her I guess, as well as the ending felt like a HFN, especially as this appears to be the last book of the series.

This book was great! I'll admit I enjoy Ms. Ayres K-9 series, but I think its was probably my favorite.
I love the way she brought his learning disibility into their story, because while they are called childhood diseases they dont have to last a lifetime. With a little help some problems can learn to be lived with.
I certainly hope DD Ayres keeps this series coming!

I loved how sweet Oliver could be, "he grinned and leaned forward to kiss her. “They’ll know what we’ve been up to. Do you really care?” She shook her head and pulled his face to hers again for another kiss. He rubbed his beard along her jawline. “That’s good enough for me.” There are times Oliver has to reassure his lady that he means what he says, “that’s just my ***k. Thinks he’s a bloody porn star. But the rest of me is brain-dead knackered.” She nodded and crawled back onto her side of the bed." I loved this book, I thought Oliver was sexy.

Physical Forces by D. D. Ayres is the final book in her K-9 Rescue series. I am sorry to see this series finish as it's been a great ride. This one includes a woman with an unusual job, pet detective, and a gorgeous Australian self-made winner.

I admired the heroine, Macayla Burkett, as she has overcome a very traumatic experience in her previous career in child services. She walked away and never looked back as she re-invented herself. Oliver Kelly has dyslexia but was treated shabbily by his father because of it. He left home at 16 by joining the service. He learned to read and write while in the service as well as developing his love of dogs. He is co-owner with Kye McGarren of BARKs which travels all over the world to provide search and rescue services. These two people were made for each other.

The plot was steady paced with Ms. Ayres taking her time to let readers get to know Macayla and Oliver. I liked that she provided points of view from both Oliver and Macayla throughout the story. The plot against Macayla was complex and I was totally glued to the pages to find out what exactly was happening and why. The reveal was thrilling but I smiled (although terrified for Macayla) as Jackeroo tried to save her. I want to thank Ms. Ayres for another wonderful adventure with the men and women of the SAR community.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Macayla Burkett has had it tough after experiencing one of the worst moments of her life when she protected a young girl and her dog was shot and killed during the ordeal. Now she spends her life finding missing pets, but when the two famous racing greyhounds she's been tasked to find turn up dead, Macayla soon finds herself in serious trouble when the police start to suspect she may have had something to do with it and a series of other stolen dogs. Knowing the best thing to do is prove her innocence, Macayla does just that with the help of K-9 Rescuer, Oliver Kelly, and his dog partner, Jackeroo. Can they find the evidence before it's too late, or will the bad guys win before Macayla and Oliver have the chance to see whether they have a shot at happy ever after?

What an intriguing, fast-paced, entertaining read Ms. Ayres has penned in this sixth book of her K-9 Rescue series, which had me smiling or laughing constantly due to the way the hero and heroine interact with each other, everything the heroine does when dealing with the animals she returns to their owners and everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after. Will Oliver be able to keep Macayla safe? The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately, because it seems trying to find missing pets isn't easy, but she's really good at her new job. Who has taken the greyhounds? Will finding them put her in danger from whoever took them?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and what the heroine has to deal with when it becomes palpable someone is framing her. Will she find the person determined to frame her before it's too late? Why are they framing her in the first place? However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There were some really good light-hearted moments between the hero and heroine such as Macayla making an amusing assumption about the hero's career that had me flipping the pages quickly, determined to discover what else would happen between these two. Would Macayla make any other wrong assumptions?

Both the main characters are fantastic due to their back stories and their growing relationship. I loved the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time, as Oliver makes a wrong assumption about the heroine, then he teases Macayla about her job and helps her with her job quandary. The hero's dog does come in handy and I could just imagine that scene so vividly where Jackeroo helps Macayla with a flighty little dog. Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave, big on her independence and I could understand why she is so driven to help people find their missing pets after what happened to her own. It's a way for her to cope with her lose and still feel like she's doing some good, but not enough to make her get recognized, as if she was the hero of the day. I also liked that she gave Oliver a chance, even though she doesn't find it easy to trust people after what she's been through.

While Oliver, he has a really fascinating job as a K-9 search and rescue expert. He's one of the best and the go-to guy when anything big happens. However, he finds it hard to talk about what he does in a public setting, and I liked how Macayla helped him overcome his fear. Certainly, she's good for him just like he's good for her, and I liked what he was willing to do to be there for her when everything started going wrong for her. Together, would they be able to find the person responsible for framing Macayla? Moreover, I liked the tight bond he shared with his friend and how they would do anything for each other, no matter how uncomfortable Oliver became in what he had to do for his friend. However, what I liked most about the hero was how protective he was of Macayla, because he was coming to care so much about her and didn't want to lose out on what they could have in the future.

Overall, Ms. Ayres has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry was strong, the main characters made this story a real page turner and the ending left me completely satisfied, even though there was a moment where I was concerned for the main characters. However, it was right at the end that I really loved, because of the way Oliver teases the heroine and then the heroine is offered an opportunity that should be too hard for her to refuse and will help her do more good with dogs. I would recommend Physical Forces by D.D Ayres, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the sexy protector trope or books by authors Katie Ruggle, Kat Martin, Maya Banks or Piper J. Drake.
