Bear to the Bone

Rate this book
Cage McCann and Carrie Miller go way back. As kids, they meant everything to each other. But Cage left town years ago to escape his future as leader of the local motorcycle gang, the Aces, and though he promised to come back, Carrie has given up on seeing him again. Until he shows up at her bar and pulls her into a sensuous, soul-shaking kiss and back into his life, which is currently full of danger and secrets beyond what Carrie can imagine.

Cage has never forgotten Carrie. After serving in the special forces and then starting up a private security company, he has just been waiting for the right time to go back, claim her as his…and tell her that the man she has always loved can actually shift into a bear. But when Carrie is in danger from the very biker gang he tried to escape, Cage drops everything to protect her. The only problem? In order to make sure she is never in danger again, he has to go undercover as an Ace.

Making Carrie fall in love with him while wearing Ace leather isn’t going to be easy, but if Cage blows his cover, he risks losing his chance to rid the town of the Aces once and for all. Now Cage will just have to prove that the Aces may be bad to the bone, but Cage is bear to the bone, and no one messes with what a bear holds dear.

~1.5 stars~

I usually love this writers work but I simply did not like this one. It has overall high reviews though, so perhaps it's just me.

Here's my breakdown:

Pros:
* Offered as a kindleunlimited

Cons:
* The book starts after the hero and heroine are reunited after spending 10 years apart. I felt like I was really missing their chemistry and back story. He had so much as written to her in years, or much less picked up the phone to call her or email. It seemed as if there were no effort on his part. Then he just shows up kisses her and expects her to pick up where they left off from 10 years before? Which is exactly what seemed to happen. He asks her to trust him even though they have been apart for such a long period of time. He also continually kept her in the dark on many secrets after reunited. He didn’t seem overly conflicted by being away from her for so long, nor did he seem endearing upon his return. Instead he seemed broody, demanding and not understanding as to why the heroine was upset for his neglegence. Ummm no. I was wanting more with their connection. I didn’t feel any sort of spark between them. It had an insta-love feel to it because of this. Their relationship seemed to lack foundation.
* A lot of irrelevant details - this book was over 300 pages, and easily could have been 200 or less. It seemed overly "wordy" and descriptive for
situations that held little or no significance.
* The heroine seemed juvenile to me - even her dialogue felt as if it were coming from a younger character. She called the hero "buster" a couple of times. Cringe.
* It was stated that the heroine had only ever kissed the hero and was a virgin at 28. It was also implied that the hero was also a virgin but this was never really talked about. This is a big deal. If he just lost his virginity at 27-28 I wanted to know more about his feelings regarding this. I wanted more of the nervousness, to know their expectations, the innocence about it, but it was just skimmed over.
* I usually love a good epilogue, but this one was incredibly lacking. I didn't even get a good sense of closure for this couple.

Overall, I still like this writer and will check out her other work, but I wont be continuing this particular series.

Pretty good..

Not my favorite from this author, but a decent read. I had high expectations since I looooved the dragons and tigers. I'll probably come back at some point to read the others in the series...

Despite the strong indications that the hero was a virgin, I just couldn't read the book. There was no connection. There was just few monologues saying he's an asshole for doing what he did. But no true remorse or redemption. No redemption for 10 years worth of distance. He expected to come back after 10 years and pick up where he left from, and the heroine to trust him unconditionally, which is exactly what happened. It was a big no for me. I just couldn't take it.

2 stars...

This didn't work for me. While the concept could have worked, Bolryder didn't execute it properly.

Here are my issues:
*The narration and dialogue was repeated so many times. The same issues & thoughts were expressed multiple times that they became insincere and annoying.
*The time span. 10 years. 10 years?! 10 years he left her and never felt really compelled to go back to her?! They both stayed virgins and single for 10 years?! Mate or not, it doesn't seem realistic.
*I didn't feel like this was a shifter book. It was an afterthought almost. It just doesn't have that feel to it.

Those may feel like three small issues, but they completely ruined the book for me. I didn't feel the love or passion I should have. I didn't feel like the story was ever moving forward. It was a disappointing read for me.

Two of my favorite themes in one - paranormal and MC. Carrie and Cage have had a connection since they met as children. As much as she loved him, she was happy when he got away from their town and entered the military Their small town has been controlled by the Aces, a biker gang, who don't care about anyone but themselves. Cage's father was their leader and it was a painful childhood. Carrie has stayed to help the woman who raised her and owns a bar. It has brought her to the attention of the club. Cage comes back to protect her and end the club. Unfortunately, he has to keep a lot secret from her to keep her safe.

Carrie is a very caring woman who is devoted to those she loves. She was raised by Willow with other children who needed a safe place too. She has only had interest in Cage even with him gone for ten years. They kept in contact thru letters but gradually they ended and she figured he had a new life. She is tough too and will put herself on the line to protect others.

Cage is a bear shifter and has always kept that part hidden from Carrie. He didn't know if she would want a man like him. It was easier to focus on building his company and put off claiming his mate. I was disappointed that he would make her wait all those years for him and especially when he stopped even writing back. He does run to the rescue when he learns she is in danger and he has been true to her and their love. It makes up for some of those secrets.

The story moves fast and keeps your attention. I am glad the author is experimenting with some longer paranormal stories. I like when you get more of a chance to understand the characters and their history. I would have liked to learn more about Carrie and her parents. I enjoyed the characters and hope we will see some stories featuring his partners soon.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

I received bear to the bone for an honest review.

let start with the characters. first we have cage a young bear who we meet at the start. Cage has been alone in the shifter world sounded by humans and unsure of what he turly is. living in an Mc club house hasn't been the easiest Espically being a bear shifter. Cages only saving grace has been his best friend and mate Carrie.

Carrie is an oprhane who lives in a house ran by willow. living among other orphans all her live Carrie wants to be free of the Aces Mc. Who do nothing but destroy people's life's. Carrie has a big heart and willing to do any thing to repay willow and help the younger oprhan out.

After the first couple of chapters the book goes to ten years later and we meet both older Cage and Carrie. Carrie has changed as she now hates any member of the Aces. as all they do is harass her bar and her. Carrie needs the bar in order to help out willow and the young children. Soon enough Cage walks through her bar wearing the Aces jacket.

Cage has secrets and has one goal set. protect Carrie no matter the cost. Cage comes back and joins that Aces the Mc he swore he would never join. Soon enough Cage finds himself in a problem he is struggling to solve. Stay with the Aces or risk losing Carrie and breaking her heart.

The story it's self is brilliant and thrilling. longer then TBS normal stories but this one has out done any of the previous bear shifter books. With action scenes and not to forget one big grizzle bear. casing down any threat. Loved the story and the storyline as it was unique and different from TBS other stories.

This book was between two and three stars for me, mostly because I'm not sure I'd ever recommend it to anyone, but it was a pretty fun read while it lasted. My main impression of this book is that it is a bunch of romantic scenes and dialogue strung together by a plot and characters. I say this mainly because for me, this book's main strength was when the two main characters communicated with each other. Bolryder really leaned into the romantic cheese in conversations between Cage and Carrie, and I appreciated that.
The plot itself was okay. I felt like it took a backseat to the romance, which is absolutely fine, but it does mean I don't have much to say about it. A lot of the overarching plot seemed to exist to give background to the character conflicts, and the Aces definitely were not fleshed out super well. Again, this is actually fine with me. I don't expect every aspect of the book to be super heavily established, because if it was the book would take too long to read, and the important themes would be buried by plot and world building.
I did have some minor issues with the characters. Carrie bothered me a bit. She in particular (although Cage did it a bit too) ran in a lot of circles in the conflict, making it seem as though we could really have read a book half the length with just as much impact. One minute she doesn't trust Cage, by the end of the scene he convinces her to trust him. Next scene rolls around and she's had second thoughts and doesn't trust him again, and on and on. Whenever she gets mad at Cage because it 'seems like he's keeping secrets' I kind of had to roll my eyes a little bit. Yes, honey, he's told you from the get go that he's hiding things from you. Beyond that, there was something a little bit childish about her. I think there is a thin line between having a naive main character and one who behaves like a child would in certain situations, and I'd say that line was crossed a couple times, which made me a little less invested in the romance and her as a character.
Cage I liked a little more, but he made some really stupid decisions. Ones that make me wonder how smart he actually is. Also most of his character revolves around being obsessed with Carrie, which for me is and isn't an issue. It is an issue because it doesn't give me anything to latch onto there and will ultimately make the book fairly forgettable. It's not an issue because I wasn't looking for a deep, emotional, complex read. I don't care that much if Cage doesn't have an identity outside of Carrie, especially since it's pretty well established that... I mean his life up till now and now literally do revolve around Carrie. No one's trying to convince me he has a personality outside of that, so I don't feel duped or anything.
Once again, the parts of this book I enjoyed the most were when Cage and Carrie were talking to each other. Just talking. I feel like the romantic aspect of the book really shone through when they were interacting, and I'm a sucker for romantic-sounding dialog. I'm in school studying communication and it kind of fits that my favorite thing in books is communication. I cannot tell you how many books I have read where I wished that the characters would talk to each other more to give me a better sense of how they go together as individuals, and this book did not leave me wishing for more talking. It gave me the right amount. I feel like that more than anything made me root for the characters. They say that actions speak louder than words, but for me, when I'm reading at least, I like the words, because they spell out for me how the characters are feeling. I need either plenty of communication, well-expressed switches in point of view so I know what's going through both characters' minds, or both. This gave me both. Never did I question what a character was thinking or feeling in a given moment for very long, and I appreciate that.
So would I recommend this book? No. Not that I don't think people would enjoy it, but because it is paradoxical to me. Things I didn't like about this book might be things that other people do like, and things I liked might be huge turn-offs for other readers. I don't not recommend this book; I just think that the individual reader should decide whether this is the type of book they would enjoy for themselves, because it's too much of a mash of strengths and weaknesses for me to determine for any individual if this book is right for them.
I will say that if you do want to read it, it is a great comfort read. I got this book during the space of time where we were waiting for election results to come in, and this book did not exacerbate any feelings of stress I might have been having. It entertains but does not overwhelm, and there is definitely something to be said for that.

Bear to the Bone (Bear Claw Security, #1) by Terry Bolryder Bear to the Bone
by Terry Bolryder.
3 out of 5 stars.
Carrie is sick and tired of being harassed by a violent Motorcycle club. They're trying to take her bar from her, but she refuses to go quietly- in fact, she refuses to go at all.
Cage, her teenage love, comes back into town but she is horrified to find out he is now a member of the MC that she is trying to fight against. Or is he?
Cage had gone away to join the army and make a better life for himself, but something has always dragged him back to Carrie, so when he is told of her plight, he's straight to her side.
But Cage has secrets, and it's been too long for Carrie to just trust him that everything will turn out all right.
I recommend this book to those that like supernatural stories.

I am presently on a Terry Bolryder binge of dragon stories but one of those novels ended with a really good snippet of this bear shifter story. I just had to read the whole novel immediately and after reading, I now have to read the whole series!
I was also pleased that the author portrayed a motorcycle club (gang) in a true light and did not write a romanticized version that so many authors do. We all have our fantasies and there is good and bad in all walks of life but to fantasize being part of a motorcycle gang ... from personal experience, Ms. Bolryder's portrayal is mild. Do not think that in any way it will be a fun ride.

Cheers

This Is Cage and Carrie's story. Cage and Carrie go back to childhood together. As a young cub caught in a trap and rescued by Carrie they have been friends. Carrie is a foster kid and Cage's dad is in the Aces motorcycle club. Cage has returned on a mission wearing the Aces colors. Will Carrie continue to dislike Cage now that he is with the Aces? Will the Aces make Carrie sell her bar and why do they want it? I give it 5 stars.

2 1/2 star rating. I usually enjoy Terry Bolryder's work, however this book was just so so for me. The story just didn't intreque me, it felt like it was forced. I really hated the line " her chubby legs", Sadly I can't say this was a Good read. It fell flat and was uninspired.
