Oh dear. This is the third in a row of books that have dissapointed, the second in as many days that I cannot bring myself to finish. I was attracted by the kooky drama/hilarity promised by the blurb, but the book is not so much funny as deeply depressing.

For a start there isn't a likeable character anywhere in sight. I actually like the man-child new boyfriend and the baby-crazy wife more than the protagonists - she a shallow, selfish cow, and he a misogynistic git. Katy may have notched up a few pity points at the start of the novel, but around the time she slept with another woman's husband, I lost all liking for her - because she never even thinks about his wife. The morning after is full of 'I feel closure now that I've slept with him again' and I looked in vein for 'but I couldn't help thinking about his poor wife, who, if she found out, would feel about a billion times worse than I did when I was a teenager'. No such line came.

The 'love interest' is a cookie cutter 'my wife doesn't understand me' sexist. He dislikes his wife for her constant obsession with getting pregnant, hops into bed with his ex - oh, no, I'm sorry, he doesn't just hop - he's brainwashed by the power of the blowjob. Silly me. Then he turns up at an antenatal class and sees Katy, and for some idiotic reason, discribes her as 'fat'. Not, 'oh my god she's pregnant' but 'oh, she got fat'.

Bring on a white horse, we've got prince charming over here.

The final straw came when Katy and Michael sat down to have a talk in a pub about their situation. Katy sits down and, commenting on an old woman and her giant dog, makes a lame joke about 'his bark being worse than her bite' - then she thinks to herself, 'God, I'm being such a commedian, and this is the hardest talk I've ever had to have'.

No, you are not being a commedian, you used a tired, old line and now you've just drawn attention to it by trying to make it look witty.

I know I'm being vitriolic here, but I'm tired of being promised a good book, and being dissappointed. Worse, being let down for the weirdest reasons.

The book is competently written, and there were no spelling/grammer mistakes etc etc - but the characters were awful, and if I ever meet anyone like them, I would not be volunteering to yank them out of the path of a bus.

This is the first book in this series. I read the third one first and think I liked it a bit better. These are cute, short novels that are good if you’re in the mood for reading but not thinking.

In this one, Katy is 37 years old and having a fun fling with a gym teacher eight years younger than her. She’s on the pill but guesses it was an illness or vomiting after drinking too much with clients that rendered the pill ineffective because she gets pregnant. She’s almost positive the baby is Ben’s, except she did have a one-night-stand with her old boyfriend after a high school reunion. Matthew’s wife is also pregnant—with twins. Matthew is much more mature and financially secure than Ben. What is a girl to do? For a novel to work, she obviously can’t tell the truth until she’s about to burst with a baby.

Another weakness I saw with this book is that I was not 100 percent convinced that Katy and Ben’s love was the kind that should lead to forever. I’ve always thought that getting married because birth control fails or you’re too stupid to use birth control is asinine. Yes, Katy missed him when they broke up, but you can miss someone you’re not deeply in love with. Persuade me that this is the guy for her—the only guy for her.

Meh...

1- There isn't even one character to like
2- Kate is big selfish cow
3- Mat is the worst jurk ever
4- The rest are just, eh

Kate got cheated on in college by the love of her life "Mat", she dumps him and gets a new life, when a school reunion is set, they meet, and you wanna kill yourself, she made a whole fuss when he cheated on her but didn't even give a single little shit about his wife's feelings or her boyfriend's when she slept with him (Mat) the night of that reunion and the pathetic him (Mat) with the "Alice's not the woman I married anymore" excuse. somebody just shoot me!

Even if many sensitive subjects have been treated in this novel, such as friendship, the devastating effect a heartbreak can have, the very hard moments and the umbearable feelings people unable to concieve babies can endure, it was heavy and really really boring, not to mention the lack of honesty of these two towards their second halves, to be honest, they deserve each other and not Ben and Alice (Mat's wife)

Genre: Chick Lit
Actual Rating: 4 stars

This is a really cute book. I have been reading a ton of romances that deal with heavy topics lately and I needed something to wind down with. This book worked! No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday is a humorous chick lit novel (although I found the last 50% of the book to be much funnier than the first 50%). This is a novel about pregnancy, not taking life too seriously, and true love (even if it takes a few hiccups along the way to be perfected). It is the first book in the series and each book must be read in order as it follows the same couple through each book. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quick and fun read! I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next (parenthood could be super funny for these two!).

I don't have too much to say about this one as it truly is a quick read (the PB is 220 pages) but I will warn readers that there is a minor cheating incident that takes place. The heroine of the story actually doesn't know who the father of her baby is until she gives birth. However, it doesn't come off as very serious in the story. Sure, it is a major part of the plot, but it doesn't sit too heavy. I know many readers will stray from books with cheating in them, so I wanted to give fair warning beforehand.

I found the characters in No-One one dimensional and clichéd, with little charm to recommend or elevate them. Our leading lights, Katy, Ben and Matthew are completely unsympathetic and I found it really hard to care about any of them. Katy and Ben do not seem to be a healthy functioning couple and the attraction between Katy and high-school sweetheart Matthew was far too underdeveloped.

Not caring about any of the characters meant that I really couldn't get involved in the love-triangle aspect. The padding surrounding Katy's character was ill-thought out and poorly executed, her actions seemed disjointed and, frankly, quite immature and reckless. Ben, Katy's boyfriend, is your typical 'lager-lout' presenting little to like or sympathise with, despite the hurried attempt by Bloom at growth at the end of the novel. Matthew's characterisation was focused solely on what he didn't want, he came across as incredibly whiney and ungrateful and I just couldn't give a fig about him either. The only character I felt any emotion for was Matthew's poor neglected wife, who at least seemed like a fairly fleshed out character, even if her purpose seemed merely to annoy the reader and add some questionable reasons to Matthew's actions.

I will credit Bloom with the fact that she has written a fairly witty novel. However, as much as I love Brit-lit (and I do, I will be expanding on this soon you'll be glad to hear) I think that Bloom's book is a little bit too British to the point where much of the humour will be lost on non British readers (I road tested this theory on a transatlantic friend but do correct me in the comments if I'm wrong!). But despite being funny and relatively entertaining, as well as being a particularly short novel (only 190 pages), I found myself not caring about the outcome at all and I actually resorted to skimming the last quarter of the book just to get to the end. I think Bloom focused too much on the humour element of the novel with the result being that the plot is a bit all over the place without ever resulting in a real conclusion or meaning.

Overall I think that No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday is the perfect example of a polarising book, people clearly loved it, I'm just not one of them.

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review. I had originally seen a review for this book on Reading In The Sunshine and thought it sounded like something I would enjoy so when the author contacted me to ask if I would like a copy I jumped at the chance!

Within the first few pages I was already laughing out loud and this continued throughout, it definitely contained my kind of humour. Katy’s boyfriend Ben was quite a bit younger than her and while she enjoyed his playful behaviour, it sometimes grated on her. I absolutely loved his inappropriate comments especially during the antenatal classes, it was so entertaining and I couldn’t stop laughing as I pictured the scene in my mind.

I liked Katy, she didn’t always make the best decisions but I felt that her heart was always in the right place. Her gay friend Daniel had to be my favourite character because he was just so funny, the author had written him in such a way that it was impossible not to visualise his over the top behaviour and that made it even more amusing for me. I changed my opinion on Matthew many times throughout the book, there were times that I liked him and times when I wanted to throttle him!

There were so many fun parts, some of my favourite moments included: Ben’s logic on why no-one ever had sex on a Tuesday, the school reunion, scenes involving a stuffed puffin, an awkward dinner party, a hilarious telephone conversation between Daniel and a guy named Braindead (also a very funny character) and finally Katy going into labour (I was crying with laughter over the events that followed).

Aside from all the jokes and laughter there were some very sweet and touching moments that outlined the delicate nature of the storyline beautifully, this is what made the book more than just a comedy in my eyes. Another good thing was that I couldn’t predict the outcome – I continuously switched opinions on how it would or should end so it definitely kept me on my toes.

This was a down-to-earth, funny book that I couldn’t put down, I look forward to more from this author!

Katy is a 36 year old pregnant woman living with her younger P.E teacher boyfriend Ben, who has an approach to life that normal people just don’t have, and some logical (if only to him) ideas why people don’t have sex on Tuesdays.

At their first antenatal class, Katy who is eight months pregnant, and Ben bump into Katy’s old high school sweetheart Matthew who is there with his pregnant wife, the highly strung, perfect, Alice, who is pregnant with their twins.

What Ben and Alice don’t know is that a few months ago at a high school reunion, Katy and Matthew let their old emotions get the better of them and had a one night stand. They decided that it would be best if they never saw each other and never spoke of what happened again. But there is no escape at the antenatal class!

Matthew quickly does the maths and works out that he could be the father of Katy’s baby. Katy realises that she doesn’t know which one of them is the father and life gets very complicated for all involved.

Katy, although a bit of a dim wit comes across very sweet and charming even if she makes a lot of bad choices, though with good intentions. She has a wicked sense of humour often accompanied by inappropriate comments. Matthew for me blew hot and cold – one minute I thought he could be the knight in shining armour, the next I wanted to string him up.

Review

The title of the book makes it sound much raunchier than it is. Actually, its not raunchy at all. It is however full of romance, chaos, irony and insane situations which kept me intrigued throughout, most of the time laughing out loud.

The subject of the story, that wouldn’t be funny in the real world, was dealt with sensitively if in a humorous way and wasn’t made centre of attention throughout. Tracy fills the book with plenty of personalities who work well together. My favourite being Daniel, Katy’s gay friend who to me is the funniest character in the book and had me in stitches. If your looking for a cheerful pick me up then this is the book for you.

Awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Total drivel, none of the characters were remotely likeable and it was very dull. Dubbed "hilarious" and "romantic", it was neither. One of the worst books I've ever read. I only finished it because I'd paid for it and did not want to be beaten by it.
Dreadful.

Smagi, lengva ir įtraukianti knyga. Ne kažkas įspūdingo, tiesiog gera proga pasijuokti beskaitant kaip labai labai susipynę ir komplikuoti įvykiai rutuliojasi, painiojasi, išsipainioja ir dwr kartą painiojasi.

🤬😑😑🙄😳🤬😐🤯😠😤

I present you with an emoji recreation of my reaction to this book. It was utter, utter, drivel. Which is a shame because I think the author can do comedy quite well. I say think, because it’s hard to see through the shiteness of the plot, the awfulness of the characters, and the steaming frustration one feels on finishing it.

I have read only 41% of this book.
It is about a woman who revenged a man for something that happened 20 years ago by having sex with him. How much worse could it get? It seems like a book written by a 13 year old spoiled girl.
This 13 year old girl seems to have said "I have a dream of writing a book, so I will write one, and even make it funny". So she tried to make it funny. So amongst other hilarious (cough cough) things, she called a man Braindead and another one Fanny Mycock.
She doesnt even explain the character's feelings. Did she get pregnant on purpose, was the story of the pill not working a lie? Or did she really feel like it was normal to, in the year of 2013, have a one night stand with a person estranged for 20 years with no preservative?

I didnt connect with anyone. It has bad punctuation too.

Amusing but not hilarious, this is an easy read, but it's not a great one. The characters are straight out of a book of clichés: self-centred, good-time girl; laddish but good-hearted boyfriend; successful, uptight ex and his shrewish, snobby wife; gay best friend. This book ticks all those boxes.

The story centres on an unexpected pregnancy and a who's-the-daddy plot, which is never actually resolved. As the book went on, I found myself caring less and less about silly Katy and her baby-daddies, especially the rather insufferable Matthew. It's untaxing and a really quick read, but that's about the sum of it.

I think this is probably one of those books that you either like or you don't. The plot - woman in a relationship meets up with old flame etc etc - is actually uncomfortable reading at times. People are getting hurt. People do the wrong thing but for all that, the story has a charm and appealed to me. I think sometimes readers have to try not to look too deeply into what happens and just go with the flow. This isn't a book that sets out to dissect in detail the whys and why nots of affairs and flings and maturity etc. There are some very funny lines, funny characters and I found it an entertaining read.

36 year old woman Kate has ‘accidentally’ ended up pregnant, has a one-night stand with an old flame whilst she is in a relationship with what appears to be a tosser at the start of the novel. How do you ‘accidentally’ not wear a thing called a condom if you are going to even cheat? This idiotic bitch got herself into this mess and complains about it and literally is the most unprepared person ever for the baby, even I was more prepared. But the fact she would even let it get this far when she clearly didn’t want it. If you don’t want the baby don’t have it and stop lying when you are both in antenatal classes with your one-night stand. Kate is a stupid bitch but Daniel (Gay best friend) was hilarious I swear he’s the reason this novel is getting a good rating. The way he handled his friend’s super long labour journey. Seriously don’t know how people would be able to push out a massive or normal sized baby never mind having a long labour of pain. In my opinion, no pain relief is the best. The rest makes you sick. Your body will know what to do but Kate clearly had a long labour. Pushing a baby out is not a pleasant experience for any bullshitting reading articles it is sore, especially the bigger the baby’s head.

Anyway, this novel was funny because of Daniel. Kate is stupid. The two guys she sleeps with, Ben the dopey boyfriend that’s a flake, he’s stupid as well being obsessed with games as a grown adult. If he’s a teacher why does he come across so idiotic? Matthew (ex) they refer to him as a stuck-up annoying person when in reality he’s a bit annoying yes, but he was trying to be practical about the situation.

Kate does not seem to comprehend the fact that the most DIFFICULT bit is the POST-NATAL. Being pregnant you’re just a big lump carrying a human so it feels shit for your body to be so fat. But the actual baby itself and the mental tolerance it brings to keep yourself in check is the most important part. If someone doesn’t even have the audacity to check in on you AT ALL that is just plain ignorant as that’s the most difficult challenge. Not the pregnant bit …

The audio recording I listened to should have been a younger voice, sounded like an old woman which is not very appropriate.

When I look at Tracy Bloom's photo above, she looks like such a happy person, and that is what this book was about. It was a happy book with loads of mischief and missteps, but happy. I always find it intriguing to read a book from an author "across the pond" because, well, you can just never get to serious when reading about a "bloke".

No-one ever has sex on a Tuesday is a charming story about past love and present love, and what happens when those two worlds end up on a collision course. I'm sure we all wonder about those past loves that got away, walked away, left; and what would happen if we were to meet up with them again. Would those old feelings still linger, or would revenge take heart?

No-one ever has sex on a Tuesday does just that. When two people who parted ways without closure, meet up at a school reunion, well...you will just have to read what happens next.

Tracy Bloom wrote an entertaining book with love, sex, marriage, and babies. There are the extended friends who make life interesting (see the quotes) and references to songs that will surely bring back memories. There were no grammatical errors to speak of, but I don't think I would have found them anyway with the language barrier thing (and that was a funny). The characters are interesting and will certainly find you looking for those in your own life who resemble them. Enjoy the writer's humor in the quotes below and then go read the book.

"He look around nervously and was suddenly aware that everyone was looking at him and Alison was nudging him. S..t, it was his turn. His turn to tell the class what his biggest fear was concerning childbirth. How about your wife finding out she might not be the only one carrying your child."

This is another first for me and was also Tracy's debut novel. On Tracy's website she says the book will have you laughing and crying and I definitely agree with this statement. Just minutes before writing this someone on my twitter feed asked what the last book someone had cried at, this was mine.

The story is about Katy as she has to face up to a one night stand resulting in a pregnancy, not only that but she is unsure who the father of the child is due to an old flame coming back into her life at the same time as she starts a relationship with another man, the man who happens to think he is the father of her baby. A chance meeting throws the lives of the two couples into disarray and the story follows how they cope with all of the upsets.

This book is really easy to relate to as the subject is something that happens in ordinary life. The characters are relatable as well, to both women and men, as they are down to earth and normal as opposed to living the life of luxury.

The prose is witty and will have you laughing at the situation that unfolds. It will have you crying too though, as Katy has to face the consequences of her actions. Katy is a great character and the story is told from her point of view only which is great because I felt like I read this really fast and only really had time to get to know one character properly and in depth.

I'd definitely recommend this as a light, weekend read if you're looking for something to lift your spirits for a little while!

I've just literally finished 'No-one ever has Sex on a Tuesday' I needed to write my review now while I still had this bizarre feeling of warmth and love inside me.

Now if you're one of my regular readers you will probably have just gasped in shock at them words. Me, warmth love? The girl in the Pajamas with the swinging brick instead of a heart? Well yes her. Me.

I'm not going to go into detail at all about this book, but give just a few little comments linked to the book and a little paragraph to direct you in its way.
OK, here we go...
1) We really don't realise the toll it takes on couples who are unable to conceive naturally.
2) The extensive power of heartbreak.
3) The immense power of love and relationships.
4) Friends, and how they would do anything at all in their power to make sure we are happy.

I utterly adored this book. It's extremely funny and has your eyes bulging out in excitement waiting for the next page. It is full of every day problems that we all face and has some seriously amazing twists in. It's emotional in every different way possible and really will have you not wanting to put it down.

If you want cheesy smiling and your insides full of gooey love then this is the book for you.
Seriously if its made me feel like that what's it going to make you feel like?

I was given a copy of this from Netgalley.

I thought this would be a funny book to say the least. I laughed in parts, but I would say the Katy, Matthew and Ben love triangle is slightly a bit boring. Matthew's wife doesn't know that Matthew and Katy had a relationship when they were in school and also the baby that Katy is carrying COULD BE his :O. Ben has found out things and Katy is wondering where her relationship with Ben is going. There is Daniel, Katy's gay friend and boy does he like drama lol.

Would I read anything more by Tracy Bloom, I would try and read more by her.

I wasn't expecting much for this book. At most a cheery little book about relationships, nostalgia and love. Something that might make me smile. This wasn't the book for me. I should have known straight off that a 'romantic comedy' involving a woman, the ex she slept with and his wife would be a hard sell - not because of the affair but because she and his wife are both pregnant when they next meet. And the man in question has all the charisma of a wet sock.

A fairly enjoyable read, but definitely spoiled by ending at 86%. I don't like the habit some authors / publishers have of putting chapters of the next book at the end of the one I'm reading - I never read it and it actually discourages me to purchase from them again.

Funny little story centered around a girl, a love triangle, and a gay friend sidekick that gets dragged into knowing more about women's bodies than he ever intended.

This book is not explicit but it does acknowledge the fact that sex exists.
