Makabe Masamune has changed himself greatly for a single reason: he wants revenge. Contrary to his past, he has worked hard to become good-looking in order to carry out this goal. Faster than anticipated, he even meets the target of his revenge the first day after transferring in — Adagaki Aki. He wastes no time beginning his plan, but revenge doesn't come easily.
I really need to stop taking so much time in between reading volumes of manga, because I completely forgot Fujinomiya was present at the beginning of the school festival arc. I also seemed to have forgotten what the Iron Council looked like, as there's a part here where the imprisoned Masamune is visited by a tanned girl wearing white ankle socks (the purity of the footwear contrasting her browned skin) with spats under her skirt, and it seems impossible to believe I would have forgotten such a thing. Or the fucking leader of the Council, with her glasses and her headband and her fucking pantyhose and her titties in her lengthy cardigan - mad props to Tiv and her godtier character designs. I have no strong opinion on the third Council member. The only thing that really sticks out is her short stature. She has a flat chest and a tsuntusn personality, but obviously Aki already has both characteristics, so I wouldn't really say this other girl fills too important a niche.
Anyway, the story's pretty good. It makes sense the anime adaptation would end with such a lengthy arc. My main issue is I accidentally spoiled myself on a huge aspect of fake!Masamune's identity while checking Wikipedia to see how much of the manga the anime adapts. Turns out the twist I read isn't even covered in this volume of the manga, and therefore probably isn't in the anime, meaning the anime ends with Gasou just appearing as a fat guy pretending to be a fat Masamune. Actually, this volume doesn't even have Aki realise Gasou isn't Masamune, I don't think. Kinda weird Gasou's introduction would have such a profound effect on Aki, only for the Snow White performance arc to end without really wrapping up that issue.
Also it's kinda wack this volume ends with a shitty cliffhanger that the class is on a trip to France. I mean, it isn't really a cliffhanger so much as it is a half-assed hook loosely setting up the next arc, but my issue is that it doesn't fit too well with the previous pages of the last chapter. The tiny Iron Council girl invites Masamune, Aki, &c. to karaoke as a means of humiliating Masamune, outing him as having not had friends in his previous school, then after Aki shuts her down some indeterminate amount of time is skipped, Iron Council girl goes to a meeting room at her school, and she finds out they left for France. It doesn't flow too well, is what I'm saying.
At least now I can fuckin' watch the anime. As soon as I began reading this manga, I had a desire for a TV adaptation, mostly for it to prompt porn and PVC figures. Then it kinda just aired without my realising it until pretty late. But whatever, looks like it didn't happen that way anyway. Aki's one of the few manga/anime characters for whom I would buy as many figures as possible, but I guess I'm saving money.
Postscipt. I'm somewhat proud of Tiv for having done a cover of Kojuro dressed like a girl. It was perhaps unnecessary, but his general appearance always made it seem inevitable he would be forced to dress like a girl at some point (particularly taking into account fujoshi Tae's inclination to shipping him with Masamune), so it's somewhat welcome she got it out of the way. Never mind we were running out of actual girls to show on the covers, though I wouldn't mind having the Iron Council on a tankobon cover. And anyway, Tiv makes up for the possible gayness of having a trap cover by giving us some quality color inserts of Yoshino, Aki, and Neko - particularly Aki's pic, with her pulling on her pantyhose, where you can see through the material enough to tell its not on all the way (the underside of her right thigh/buttock is visible in a way revealing the hose aren't pulled up to her waist quite yet), and she's tugging on the hosiery of her right leg for no reason other than for Tiv to say "people who are into this, you know who you are, and you're welcome." Thank you based Tiv.
