The most evocative aspect of this might be the 1999 cover design. The stories have varieties & many of the authors are familiar and good, but not when writing about music. In most, music comes in like a character, but there’s no conflict. Almost everyone loves music, just the way it is, otherwise they’re just being unreasonable. As people know who’ve ever made a big commitment to music, it’s not so simple. You can guess, from reading these, who has tried playing a sonata to an audience, who know how that tends to go, and what feelings come with it.
