MK McClintock introduced us to Amanda Warren during Gallagher's Choice, book 3 in the series, but her past and where she came from was clouded in mystery. I hoped that we would find our more about Amanda and her story finally comes to life in Journey to Hawk’s Peak. This story was told is a different format from that of the first 4 because we are not being fully introduced to any new characters here, we are just digging a little deeper into Amanda and also her love interest, Ben Stuart, the head ranch hand at Hawk’s Peak. While we already know much about Amanda, we are learning about what made her who she is now that we didn’t have before. It’s not told in a completely linear fashion – I mean, the past is told mostly in order and the present is told in order, but we get flashbacks to the pertinent events as they are necessary which helps reveal Amanda’s character over time.

One of the things I love about McClintock’s storytelling is that it isn’t easily classified – it’s a little bit romance, a little bit action/adventure, and a little bit western. There are obvious overtones of something brewing between Amanda and Ben and I loved how it was a slow build that wasn’t the focus of the story, but still a significant supporting aspect. Amanda ended up at Hawk’s Peak because she was running from her past, and as usually happens, the past comes back to haunt, and this time it brings a lot of danger with it. The Gallagher crew gear up to help Amanda figure out what truly happened at her hometown that led to her need to flee. There is a kidnapping, a shooting or two, a fire, children being born, and many other kinds of chaos. There is something happening on every page to keep the reader’s attention.

We also got to enjoy the ever increasing crazy Gallagher clan that we have grown to love throughout the series. Everyone is there, however with the size of the cast, some only have passing moments while others play more significant roles. I don’t know if I have a favorite character; I do still find Ethan dreamy, but Ben gave him a run for his money here!

The only reason I gave this 4 stars was that some elements felt a little repetitive, although told in a new way. We have had a kidnapping before and people terrorizing the ranch, which the characters even acknowledge during the story, but it is a different story ultimately which I still very much enjoyed!

A copy of this book was received in exchange for an honest review; the thoughts and opinions are all my own. This review was previously posted at The Maiden's Court blog.

Journey to Hawk's Peak is the fifth installment to the Montana Gallaghers series. I have been hooked on this series since book one and I still can not get enough. The mystery that surrounded Amanda and how she came to Hawk's Peak, kept me reading on to the next page. I could not put the book down.
I highly recommend this book, as well as, the others in the series.
5 plus stars.

Excellent Read

Again, I must say that I truly hate to see the sage end for the Montana Gallagher family and friends. MK McClintock has woven each character into this series with stories that inspire, relate and excite the reader. Action packed reading from page one ending in actions of the heart.

Good Story

This story was good but I struggle to read stories that jump back and forth with time. There was a bit of a repeat story line here as Amanda was grabbed and her love Ben rescued her. Then her love Ben was hurt because of the danger she brought to the ranch. Only new twist was that Amanda killed the bad guy. Oh and Amanda was shot and almost died a bit like Eliza’s story.

But I did enjoy the escape to another time and place with the whole Gallagher set of characters

M.K. McClintock’s Montana Gallagher novels are very good reads. I’m glad Ms. McClintock keeps the series alive with new stories about the inhabitants of Heart of the Mountain ranch. In “Journey to Hawk’s Peak”, she writes about Amanda. Amanda helped her father out in their mercantile in Iron City, until his murder and a fire destroyed her life. She had to run for her life and hitched a ride with a wagon train going west. Alone and scared, she made herself indispensable to the families of the train by cooking and watching their children. She found work in a saloon when she was discovered there by the Gallaghers and offered a job on their ranch.

Even though she was happy and content with her new life, she was in constant fear that her past would be discovered and her happiness shattered. Before escaping Iron City, she had been falsely arrested for setting the fire that stole her livelihood. A sympathetic deputy helped her escape and she’d been on the run until she reached Montana. This story becomes very involved and I enjoyed reading about the mishaps, troubles and the solutions that the Gallagher’s find for Amanda.

I enjoyed this book very much and hope to read more stories from this series. I will also be looking for books in her other series. I think Ms. McClintock has a wealth of plots left for us to enjoy.

Ah, the wild west where the law often can not protect you. Lucky for Amanda she has been taken into the Gallagher family which protects its own.

She landed in Briarwood, Montana with little to her name and an unknown past. Brought to Hawk's Peak, the home of the Gallaghers, she is hoping to make a new start. Yet, she is unsettled and worried her past will catch up and bring misery to those she now calls family.

The story is a blend of life in the wild west along with the romance which blooms between Amanda and Ben, one of the men employed by the Gallaghers. Things get bumpy when they discover she is being sought by the man she'd fled.

Overall, a fun romance novel where things are kept 'clean'. I may be seeking out the first 4 novels in this series. If you haven't read previous ones, that isn't a big issue as it can stand alone.

Note ~ I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley in hopes of a review. All opinions are my own.

Struggling to survive in a world that has rejected her she runs away to a small town. Thinking that unanimity will protect her. But as many learn the hard way running away is not a solution. Small town life, well like anything its a pipe dream. Finding herself through her personal struggles, and through the eyes of those around her she will find her place at Hawk's Peak.

I would like to thank Trappers Peak Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc.
This is the first book I have red by M.K. McClintock.
I became interested in this story right way, it started out fast paced and a real page turner, however about a third of the way through it fell flat, becoming very repetitive. The writing is poor with lots of errors.

Terrific

This is a very good series. The first 4 novels are excellent. Strong characters, interesting plot, and lovely romance. The 5th novel is ok. Recommended for all western romance lovers. How about a Colton's story? He deserves one.
