This book was interesting enough to capture my attention and keep me reading, however, it also frustrated me.
The formatting of skills/talents/experience etc.. via the use of tables was quite deplorable and almost impossible to visually understand. I had to fiddle with the text size and color simply to be able to read their content.
One area of extreme frustration was the excessive mention of the cheating nature of the character. The book literally states 42 times that the protagonist is a "cheat character" (I counted, via Search). Honestly, that's too much, and it unfortunately detracts from the story, simultaneously emphasizing the inexperience of the writer.
I fail to understand why all the main characters speak the same way. Their speech and mannerism is identical, and, irrespective of their age, remains juvenile.
It is a valiant effort on the author's part, and I will continue reading his work as I hope he progress with time, but I sincerely hope next time he'll make use of an editor, not so much for copy editing, but for the narrative itself.
Now, recently i have gotten the news that the series is over.. Because the MC is a little too OP, it seems. Yea, he is, but so what? There are other books in this genre where the MC is OP like hell and the series are still going. I find it unacceptable. It's possible that Justin Miller will get back to the world, but with other characters, but it will never be the same.. I want this.
I truly enjoyed this book, even on the second time. And i want more. Now. Or yesterday.
I recently read his book world seed and loved it so much I immediately picked this one up too. Well, I wasn't disappointed. My favorite thing about this is the depth and thought that goes into the spell process. This is the first author I have read that really utilized the idea of runes and did such a good job of it. And what a cliffhanger!
If you want something serious, this isn't it, but it makes up for it with loads and loads of humor and content. Laughing out loud at 4am was probably not helpful as I am sure my neighbors heard at one point! lol
On the postive side: It starts out strongly, and I truly liked how he discovered the Wordsmith ability and his first companion. I had high hopes at that point for a likeable character, a great story and epic adventure.
Eh... sadly, that wasn't really the case. It's great that he can create spells. Less great is, if he can do it so fast that it's possible in the middle of a highspeed battle. Overpowered isn't just a word and things became boring quite fast. Of course he would have the right spell for it - and doesn't need to learn it, or anything, he just slaps things together, uses it, yay.
And at that point we haven't even reached half of the book yet and the author did the only thing he could do to make his overpowered character look reasonable: Add extremely strong NSCs. And... that's pretty much it, from then on I stopped reading.
And ah yes, he seems to meet always beautiful women that really want to be his friend and have no personality, besides wanting to be stronger / liking the hero / being strong. Granted, the author seems to be trying in that regard - after all he has included a lot more females than most litrpg author's do - but... well, that makes it all the more obvious that they are lacking.
Conclusion: Might be a good read for males who like OP characters who are in favour by all females they meet. (Unsure, if this might become a harem or not... definitely has potetial there.)
But the tables in this book where just horrible. Thin little columns down the left side of the page that gave me a headache trying to read. Also there are quite a few blank pages in here. I didn't pay my hard earned money to gaze upon blank pages. That to me is a dirty way to pad a books page count. While I did enjoy the story itself I can not recommend this book.
I would give this a 5 star if I felt like his character wasn't in gm more .being able to make currency and over modify existing equipment is broken . I loved being able to change one spell to a different one makes him more than powerful enough. Also doesn't leave much to the world if he jumped from a beginner area to hell and after walked into end game content. I like the build up and adventure in my story.
This was a good book. I found that the parts that happened in the real world where very bland and in some points where cringe worthy. If you like LITRPG and can get to about the half way point this book and the next are really good. The other only downside to this series is that it looks like there are only two books in it and maybe only the two in the long run I would love to see a third book in the series.
Fun! An OP MC story all around yet still balanced...
I fully enjoyed this entry into the LitRPG field of books. Mysterious origins of a unique and fun game world, a MC who is admittedly OP yet doesn't break the balance of the story, has a genuinely "good" personality and some fun side characters... Who could ask for more?
This book, for me was an eye opener as I thought it would be just the same old rehash of some of the other books in this genre. I was happy to be wrong. There were a few typos, but not enough to detract from the story. Now I'm going to have to waif for more...
This is a good book. If you're into fun litrpgs that don't take themselves too seriously like some do, this book is for you. It's interesting, the characters stay likable and the pacing is brisk enough that you won't get bored.
1. I'm used to bad editing, but that book is illogical. The MC makes bad choices but they get validated through story twists.
2. The MC (or the author ... hard to tell) is a bad MMORPG player. That's a minor complaint, because I'm used to the Russian and Chinese authors who play diffrent (= worse :-) ) than Germans. I mention it, because the example for Point 1 includes Point 2
Example Point 1 and 2: I quit reading at that point.
3. I disliked the MC a lot. I have a pet peeve against guys who think that their hobbies are more important than their responsibilities. The MC is such a person. Example Point 3:
A long story but great from start to finish and what a climax? This author put a lot of thoughts into his characters and how they relate to each other from good to evildoers. I recommend this story tremendously! !
