This collection ties in to the current line of Transformers toys by Hasbro. It's a great marketing strategy, but it fails to explain why all the toys are Headmasters and only the antagonist and his lackey are the only ones with that feature in this story.

At least, its an extended epilogue to the Lost Light story and focuses on those who were once part of the crew but stayed behind. For that, I give in three stars. It could have rated higher, had it not misused Ramondelli for stories in the present day. His stylized style suits better to a flashback story, like the excellent Autocracy trilogy. Still, it's an excellent sampler into the current state of Transformers comics that I don't follow.

I will freely admit that I am not at all current (clueless might be more apt) about the continuity of Transformers. Bearing that in mind, I found this to be an interesting read.

Optimus Prime is on Earth, Megatron is an Autobot and Starscream is the ruler of Cybertron. So when Sentinal Prime returns from the grave, suffice to say he is as confused as I am. Sentinel does not take this kindly and decides it's time to clean house. As the strange grouping of Decepticons and Autobots band together, they find that Sentinel Prime can activate and control the Titans.

An interesting story (though slightly confusing to me) and good art make for a good Transformers comic. Nothing great but still good.

Though not, perhaps, the perfect ending one might have hoped for for IDW's two most successful Transformers series this is still an engaging and enjoyable read.

Transformers: Titans Return charts the history of Sentinel Prime and expands on the background of the what both both Cybertron was and what political establishments it had in the past! :D Transformers: Titans Return packs it in all the over the place! :D The character development is all up on the page weaved neatly in between with moral debates and humour throughout that give everything a great tone! :D Megatron at movie night being offered nibbles at the same time as he is accused of war crimes is hilarious and will have your ribs hurting! :D At the same time though it shows the difference between events and how they are portrayed and what has actually happened which fuels the angst we see in the book! :D This creatively also interweaves neatly between the the debate over past and future actions with overriding mystery of Sentinel Prime creating plot lines that neatly weave to and fro throughout Transformers: Titans Return!: D

Sentinel Primes return though, much to his horror, really illustrates that he has arrived in a period that for Cybertronians he no longer fits! :D The way he goes about trying to correct for this is clever but ultimately will leave to a confrontation! :D Sentinel really underestimates the attitude of the time and this really serves brilliantly at illustrating the differences in their society and allows grand standing on both sides though the way Optimus eventually sorts things out is done in a style we would expect from a true Prime and a serious case of just deserts is meted out! :D

The character development is all up on screen with characters being developed in all directions giving them all a three-dimensional feel! :D At the same time you can see the plotlines being set up for future events as the characters are all being positioned like game pieces! :D This though works brilliantly with the tone of the book as the Transformers are intent on having their society depending on which side you are on! :D The reunited and fair Cybertron you can see though comes together in this like many of the characters and you can see from the plot threads what this could mean for the rest of the galaxy and this is neatly set up! :D

Transformers: Titans Return is full of world building not only do we get to see how bad the old Autobots were we also get to see more of old enemies like Soundwave and Prime working together which gives everything a very different dynamic from what we see have seen before! :D this add to the books tone giving it a great vibe and promise of things to come! :D The events portrayed are clearly positioning the characters future plots and Transformers: Titans Return does an incredible job of setting this up! :D

The art is great with different POV's being served by different styles of art, due of course to the collected nature of the book, but at the same time this really serves the script incredibly! :D The panes move in a fluid fashion giving thing an epic tome from Cybertron through to the movie theatre to Earth everything is up there with inventive angles that really enhance the script! :D This really emphasises the epic nature of the cast that would rival an Avengers movie though it should be noted characters are left non-dust bunnied in this one! :D

Transformers: Titans Return works on all levels with dynamic events and character building in abundance! :D Transformers: Titans Return is full of action and adventure with a plot line that goes all around and back again keeping you guessing as to where everything is going and at same time setting up future plots as well! :D Brilliant and highly recommended! :D Crisp High Five! :D Make sure you have the next one! :D

It's Okay

Great artwork. Very enjoyable visuals. The story? I don't know. It's okay. At least the villain is straightforward. The quirky humor and sentimentality that Roberts does all the time though, I don't like. It's very easy to tell which parts of the book he wrote versus someone else. I mean, Prowl and the others washing dishes together? Definitely Roberts. IDW Transformers... where you get an epic Titan battle, followed directly by people sitting around doing dishes. It's this weird tonal whiplash that has come to be standard for this series. Oh well. I'm just glad I'm almost to the end of the issues I bought. No more IDW for me after that.

Mixed feels about this bigger jam, as cross-over books so often are. The main thread by Barber/Ramondelli fan services. Some neat character moves, quality illustration but makes a dozen in the line of large-threat-followed-by-larger. Contains more than a few unidentifiable cast members (of a very full cast), the effect disengaging from the read. The two-part MTMTE closer succeeds a quieter, small cast tale with yet another long seed secret unwrapped. Priscilla Tramontano fills in for Alex Milne and is perfectly suited.

It's rather 3-3,5, but the first part and MTMTE 56-57 have some magnificent banter, the movie night with Megatron and biased history documentaries is fantastic and the Red Alert & Rung subplot is so well thought!
- And Prowl! Long forgotten Holmes eldest brother: "Urgh. Is this what life is like for other people? Wandering around asking questions?"
- Cylonus:
"Red or purple.
It's so limiting.
Have we not learnt to move beyond binary?"

This starts off with a lot of promise - Sentinel Prime returns to "fix" modern Cybertron - and suggests some potentially epic stuff with the Titans... but wraps up too quickly and simply to satisfy. It feels like the writers made the best of a storyline that was imposed on them, but only spent as much time as they had to... (B)

what happen to alpha trions head!!!

substories were pretty good , don't remember much about red-alert from 80s-90s but his side-story was pretty good. And the comical beginning. Probably should read things in order.

Three issues of incomprehensible wider Transformers nonsense and two pretty good ones of More Than Meets The Eye, which cap off the series in pretty anticlimactic fashion. Didn't think I'd be moving into Lost Light but I guess I am!

Enjoyable storyline that is of course dictated by Hasbros toy needs but no worse than in the past. Including More Than Meets the Eye is a huge plus. Livid Ramondelli's art is a huge involvement over previous works of his as he looks to be trying to imitate Alex Milne and the likes and his art is clearer and less murky for it. Well worth a read as long as you remember this is a toy tie in and that its less like the traditional Western Headmasters and more like the Japanese style.

I thought since there's a whole toy line called this that it would be more of an event, but it's really not. Just a prelude to the whole Revolution thing.

This volume is worth reading only for the parts written by James Roberts. Everything else was so forgettable I've just finished this book and discovered I already read it before.

It had some good moments and quotes ("Have we not learnt enough to move beyond the binary?") but as a book it seemed weirdly disjointed and chaotic. The whole main plot is bland and boring and the dialogues...? You could literally change all the main villain's speeches into "blah blah blah" and the story wouldn't be less clear.

The only part really worth reading is the last one, with Fortress Maximus and Co. Everything else is forgettable.
I miss James Roberts.

The story was neat, but I think the artwork suffered in places. It also felt a bit too much like they were forcing the story in the direction that Hasbro's toy plans were going. The second half was definitely stronger, but then More Than Meets The Eye has long been a stronger book than Robots In Disguise.

Probably the best of the 3 big events I've read from these series. I chalk that up to it being a much smaller in scope story.
