Put Teaching Naked to work in your classroom with clear examples and step-by-step guidance Teaching Naked Techniques (TNT) is a practical guide of proven quick ideas for improving classes and essential information for designing anything from one lesson or a group of lessons to an entire course. TNT is both a design guide and a 'sourcebook' of a great companion to the award-winning Teaching Naked book. Teaching Naked Techniques helps higher education faculty design more effective and engaging classrooms. The book focuses on each step of class preparation from the entry point and first encounter with content to the classroom 'surprise.' There is a chapter on each step in the cycle with an abundance of discipline-specific examples, plus the latest research on cognition and technology, quick lists of ideas, and additional resources. By rethinking the how, when, and why of technology, faculty are able to create exponentially more opportunities for practical student engagement. Student-centered, activity-driven, and proven again and again, these techniques can revolutionize your classroom. Teaching Naked flips the classroom by placing the student's first contact with the material outside of class. This places the burden of learning on the learner, ensures student preparation, and frees up class time for active engagement with the material for more effective learning and retention. Teaching Naked Techniques is the practical guide for bringing better learning to your classroom.
This was by far the best book on teaching I have ever read. There are so many good points and tips it took me four months to read, reread, and take notes. It reinforced many things I do already as a teacher by strengthening these with research and theory along with examples. However, and more importantly, it opened my mind to other ways of teaching with new research, theories, tips and examples that will help my students learn, and me instruct, more effectively.
I loved how well organized and practically-oriented this book was. I've read lots about teaching, but still found about a dozen great ideas and resources that will be easy to look into and use in my classroom. This is one way of saying there's lots in here for both seasoned and more novice educators, particularly in the higher education classroom.
As I prepare for new responsibilities at work, this has been a super helpful resource in getting me to think about various aspects of creating engaging curriculum and learning spaces. I have many annotations to revisit, and I really appreciate that this is a good touching off point for further development as every chapter ends with a list of further resources to check out.
If you're an educator, you need to run right out and pick up Teaching Naked Techniques: A Practical Guide to Designing Better Classes. If you use even a fraction of what you find in this book, you will improve your teaching. As an education geek, I could not put this book down. It contained lots of research and provided a stripped-down strategy for improving learning. Read more
