In this parable written especially for young women, three sisters-- Ebony, Sara, and Hazel-- are daughters of a king. "Do you love me?" the king asks. "Yes, Father," they all cry. "Then build me a castle while I am gone, and do not forget me. Someday, I will return." Will anyone remain faithful and receive her father's approval, "Well done, my good and faithful daughter"?
Jenny Phillips has performed 800 times in the last three years, and during her firesides she tells "The Parable of the Princesses." Her fans across the country and internationally are eager for this publication. A CD single titled "Daughter of a King" will be included in the book.

As a Christian songwriter and music producer, Jenny Phillips has released over 27 albums and has shared her love of music across the world, speaking at over 1,100 events in 23 countries and selling over a million CDs. In order to reduce the stress and time commitments that naturally come with a music label, and so she could focus more on her young family, Jenny left her music label in 2011. She now offers her music for free on www.hislightmusic.com.
When Jenny's children began going to school, she turned toward another one of her passions—education. Jenny began homeschooling in an effort to provide a faith-based, high-academic education focused on building noble character. Not wholly satisfied with any curriculum she could find and deeply concerned about the loss of good literature in our world, she founded The Good and the Beautiful.
Jenny lives in Utah with her husband and five children. In addition to music, motherhood, and good literature, Jenny loves family history, gardening, traveling, and exercising. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but she enjoys working with people of many faiths as she shares her multi-denominational curriculum, rejoicing in the common good that all Christians share.
This book was so beautiful. It really helps you see your potential in this life and come to a greater understanding of what we are here for. I loved this book.
This was a cute story that helps kids understand the idea of choosing the right and learning about their divine birth. I loved the images in the book and the story was well told. Nicely done...
This is a chapter book about three princesses that leave their father’s castle and over time forget that they are daughters of a king until he comes back to take them home. This book references the gospel of Jesus Christ and the topic that we are all sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. This book is sweet, and it makes for a good first chapter book as it is a quick read. I like that it explains all of the ways that we can forget the fact that we are all sons and daughters of our heavenly father. I also like how it references the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how he has saved us from our sins. This book is a great reminder and teacher of gospel topics in a simple way. I plan to keep this book in my library because of these reasons above.
This was nice, but the symbolism was a little too obvious for my taste. I like a parable where the meaning sneaks up upon you near the end and gives you an “aha” moment. But I knew what this was about from the beginning.
This is a very sweet story that came to a mother while rocking her newest baby to sleep. It is the story of three princesses who must leave their father, the King, and travel to a new place that is hard and much more plain than their amazing kingdom back home. The princesses are to work hard and build their own castles in preparation for their father to return and get them. This book is applicable to everyone, but would be especially good for little girls as they come to understand their role in the plan of salvation. I was also very impressed with the beautiful artwork but was a little disappointed that the pictures did not continue throughout the book, especially at the end--it seemed like the illustrator didn't finish. There is also a fun little section in the back that will help young ones with the symbols in the story. In all it was cute and is a great addition to my library.
A fairly good parable story, I enjoyed this while I was younger. But now reading it again, I wish I would have had read it with an adult who could have discussed it with me, especially the clarifying information found in the back of the book. As a recovering perfectionist, this book does show the mercy of Christ's atonement in Heavenly Father's plan, but it also presents a character who was well, pretty perfect. As Phillips describes at the end of the book, there are parts of all three princess in us. As a child I took the characters at face value, and didn't really understand they they themselves were more symbolic than human. Still a good read, just one I would read with children for the first time and occasionally afterwards.
Also the artwork is lovely! I enjoyed all the pictures featured in the book.
This is a parable showing how each daughter of God has been given the task to build her Father's kingdom. The three sisters or princesses each go about it a different way with varying degrees of waywardness. It's a story of divine nature, love, devotion, and forgiveness. It's cute, but I think it could have been a lot cuter. I don't think the author really did it up to all that the message could be. I think she kind of fell at half-done. The illustrations, though, are GORGEOUS! But it's a good story that I think all young women and girls should read.
An amazing friend gave this to me as a gift. It was just what I needed after the passing of my Grandpa. This illustrated book follows 3 sisters who are asked to build a castle for their father while he is away. Just as in other parables some follow some don't. An older brother comes to the rescue. Simple reminders for us hold to the rod, continue in the right direction, and remain faithful and steadfast. Told in a voice that is easy to understand and contains of lots of symbolism that is explained at the end of the book. The CD is a bonus that even kids will enjoy.
I loved this book! I purchased the one with the CD. My kids have listened to it over and over in the car. They practically beg me to put it on. It's a parable geared toward young women, but even younger children can understand this wonderful story. It is about 3 princesses and how they prepare (or don't prepare) for the return of their father, the King. It contains a lot of symbolism that is explained on the last page of the book.
This is a beautifully written book, with symbolism included. On page 36 she says "I think there is a little bit of Haxel and Ebony and Rose in all of us." "There is something we can learn from each of the three princesses." "We can, through the mighty love and grace of our elder brother change our direction and be prepared for the day when we hear our Father's voice proudly say to us, "Well done, my good and faithful daughter." This book is one everyone should read.
I know it was geared toward children but, it seemed the writing was stuck somewhere in the middle between children and youth. Not quite reaching either perfectly. I know I sound harsh and I did like it so keep reading.
A sweet parable of the plan of salvation told through the lives 3 princesses. I liked the story and the parable. Because it is such a short read I would recommend it to both children and youth.
Jenny Phillips came a spoke at a Stake YW Fireside last year and told this story. I asked her for a copy of it and she informed me that it was to be made into a book. I love this book. My copy came with a CD of music. My girls really like the story. It is sure to become one of the those books we read over and over.
It's a very nice parable. There's just this inner part of me that can't help wince when I think of all the ways people use a little cheeze to make money off of the gosple. Ouch. Did I just say that? I have a good heart and I'm sure the author does as well. So, please don't be offended. Maybe I'll LOVE it by the end of Young Women's camp this summer.
Jenny Phillips is one of my favorite artists of all time. Her music is so spiritual and uplifting - and her writing is exactly the same way. This story that she's written is just as precious as any of her songs. This a great book for women of all ages, as it's a great reminder of who we are - daughters of God.
Oh MY STARS!!! I really LOVE The Short Story of these three Princesses! I believe the Parable is True for all of us, I am so excited to read this book over and over again with my little girls and even boys!
I was SO touched and SO inspired by this book and would recommend it to anyone and everyone, especially those who are Christian and any parent or relative of a daughter of any age. What a beautiful story, based on beatifully mportant and true principles of this life.
I read this at Young Women's Camp. It was used for the Destiny lesson and it is beautiful and powerful. The illustrations are breathtaking and the message touches your heart. A story that needs to be read with the entire family.
I went to Jenny Phillip's fireside tonight, and she read this to us. The story was beautiful and touching, and I could feel the Spirit's presence so strongly as it was read. It was uplifting and inspiring, and I really want the book now!
I've been inspired by Jenny Phillips' music ever since I came into YW, and this story is no exception. I was sobbing by the time I finished it! A beautiful analogy of a daughter of God's purpose and place in the plan of salvation. "...the worth of soul's is great in the sight of God."
I think this story had great potential. But I felt it fell short due to too much description and explanation of the parable. The meaning was obvious without the explanations. I enjoyed her other parable "Beautiful" much more.
Awesome Book. My girls love it! Well, my sons too, but they wouldn't admit it in mixed company. Teaches a wonderful lesson about mission and the devil's distractions.
I LOVE IT! It's so relative to our lives here on earth, it makes me want to cry when the older brother comes and saves Ebony from the chains of death!!!!
Quick little parable about three young princesses. Gives a cute, if not superficial look at some aspects of the atonement, our Heavenly Father's love for us, and His plan for us in this life.
