One of my favorite of her books. It's as if she's created her own type of fairy tale with this onderful happily ever after story set in the historical West.

Sweet Historical Romance

I really liked this story! And, now that I understand this is no longer a part of the Montana Sky series by Debra Holland because the Kindle World ended, the name changes of the charactes and towns make sense!
Usually, I don't like unusual or hard to pronounce names, but after learning the heroine's name is pronounce Gorm Lee (or Leah) and the name is a wonderful Irish name transliterated into English as Barbara, and the best part I learned is that a famous Irish princess had the original name, she lived from 960 to 1030. I'm kind of a fan! I still wish more characters said something like, "That's such an unusual name, how do you pronounce it again?" But, alas, they usually just act like everyone knows how to say it and spell it, like Bob or Jill.
Anyhoo, I liked this story a lot, the only thing missing was his reaction to finding out the news in the epilolgue.

Gormlaith and Garret

Another good story! Gormlaith flees to Montana in fear of threats from her deceased husband's family. Garret becomes her husband by being in the right spot. Trouble follows but is overcome.
Again the writing just pulled me in and I couldn't put the Kindle down.

Overcoming trials

Gormlaith and Garrett faced several struggles after their quick and unplanned marriage. However they were able to face the trials with a untied front.

Reading The Rancher and the Shepherdess will give you an entertaining look at a couple that seem to be taken by surprise by the love that grows between them. Gormlaith McGowan has escaped New York and her late husband's vindictive family. They want her to stay, marry her brother-in-law and keep bringing home a paycheck. Not an option so she accepts a mail-order proposal and travels to her new husband-to-be far from the past.

Garrett McDonald is a rancher just getting started with his own place having been a foreman for a number of years. He really has no plans to seek out a bride just yet, but on a visit to town he finds himself introduced to a bride who's groom has died before her arrival. Perfect timing ... yes. It might be a little earlier than he planned but a beautiful bride who isn't afraid of an isolated ranch is a winner in any book.

The Rancher and the Shepherdess is a warm romance, with some funny teasing moments, but you also get a good look at the type of things that can happen in isolation, and the strength needed to survive the frontier. Gormlaith is open, not afraid to speak her mind, though she keeps her worries a secret at first. Garrett is pretty much the same but he is a gentle man who doesn't understand any man abusing his wife (as her first husband had) and does his best to woo her. There are times when I am reading that I know the couples are enjoying marital bliss but I just don't need or want the details. This book is just that way, you get the surprise and joy that Gormlaith felt over the wonderful nights with her new husband and he is certainly happy. I can't wait to get my hands on more of this series and anything else author Caroline Clemmons sends my way.

On a personal note I wanted to thank author Caroline Clemmons for adding the pronunciation of Gormlaith's name (Gormley) into the story because that is a detail that can drive me crazy trying to figure out. Wish others would do the same.

What a beautiful story, Gormlaith McGowan is a young Irish woman on the run. Married at a young age in Iraland to an abusive man they immigrated to the Americas with her new family. Life in the new country wasn't easy , put to work and her husband taking her pay to get drunk and beating her was not what she wanted. On one of her husbands drunken binges they argued and accidentally he fell down the stairs braking his neck. Fearing for her life she flees and becomes a mail order bride. Unfortunately for her the man that would have been her husband died ! Poor Gormlaith is stranded at the train station in Sweeetwater Montana waiting for her intendant that never shows up . The sherif being a kind man introduces her to Garrett McDonald who wasn't really looking for a wife , he wanted to wait to get his farm established but seeing Gormlaith he was struck by her beauty and found himself to agreeing to marriage. Will Garrett and Gormlaith be able to have their happy ending ? Follow them while they go through the ups and downs of a new life together . Caroline Clemmons writes touching stories about love , family, and the uncertain struggles of being a mail order bride. I definitely recommend her to friends and family, this was an awesome story.

Red Headed Stranger

When Gorbaith McGowan arrived by train, she was cold and hungry. Almost destitute, she is frightened when Sheriff Mathers tell her that her groom has died. Luckily for her, the sheriff is a romantic and a quick thinker, so when he sees Garrett McDonald at the mercantile, Sheriff Mathers quickly finds a new groom.
It doesn't hurt that Gorbaith is beautiful and soon they are wed. But she has a secret or at least she's scared of the past and her late husband Conor's family in New York.
Ranch life is hard, especially with injuries, snow, and wolves, but when the Sheriff shows up with a a warrant are they borrowing trouble or is their happiness on borrowed time.
Gorbaith never dreamed she could have such a wonderful life with her husband on their ranch among friends.

This book is part of the Montana Sky Kindle World.

Gormlaith McGowan is a widow who has left New York in a rush to start a new life in Montana. She arrives in Sweetwater Springs only to discover that her intended has died. What is a girl to do? Thankfully she runs into the sheriff and he helps her out.

Garrett McDonald came to town for supplies ahead of the winter storms. He wasn't looking to return home with a wife. The sheriff told him about Gormlaith's situation and they left town as man and wife.

This was a really sweet story. They were kind and caring towards each other. I recommend this book to anyone who loves sweet love stories that leave you with a happy heart.

Caroline Clemmons is great!!!! This book was exciting, sad, loving and funny all rolled up into a stupendous story line.

Stepping off the train, Gormlaith McGowan thought she was stepping into a future of uncertainty, but leaving New York was the best for her. So she thought until no one stepped forward to claim her.......
Garrett McDonald was in town for supplies, as far as he knew he hadn't done anything wrong. Then why did the sheriff want him to follow him? Who knew hours later he would be heading home married?

This story keeps you reading, I literally did not put it down until I finished it. With each book Caroline puts out, I can hardly wait for the next one. This is one person that will always read Caroline Clemmons historical romances. Thank you.

I enjoy Caroline Clemmons books, and this one made me smile.

Gormlaith McGowan was a young Irish immigrant and new widow, who had suffered more in her life than anybody should. She became a mail-order bride only to find when she got to Montana her betrothed had died a week before. Finding herself penniless in a strange town, Sheriff Mather took pity on her and introduced her to Garrett McDonald a young lonely widower. There are twists, good humor in this relationship. They have so much to learn from each other.

Caroline Clemmons should have another winner with this one.

I absolutely love Caroline Clemmons. This book has got to be one of my favorites of hers. The story of Gramlaith and Garrett is such a sweet one. The way they meet and slowly fall in love after her abusive past, makes this book one that you cannot put down. I love that he is just a country boy trying to make his way in life and she comes into his life and they realize that they were made for one another. Another amazing Caroline Clemmons story!!

Caroline Clemmons has the ability to write lovely romance stories. In the Rancher and theShepherdess, she uses the needs of two people to bring them together. Neither is sure that life will be what they hope for, but romance has a way of connecting people when they never expect it. That is true for this lovely story. It is well written with well-defined characters and descriptive settings. I enjoyed it very much.

Predictable

Granted novellas are not my thing but I was in a time crunch . This story however was predictable and flat. The dialogue was stilted. Not a good example of Caroline Clemmons work. I wouldn't recommend it.

Great Story

I enjoyed this sweet romance and the characters, especially the Irish heroine. Her attitude reminded me how we sometimes take things for granted. It was set in winter, and I could almost feel the chill of the ice and snow.
