Lorna MacKenzie lost her mate nearly thirty years ago. Dedicating her life to her children, she brushed off the thought of ever finding love again. After all, Jamie MacKenzie had been her true mate. Who could ever replace him? Ross Anderson came to Lochguard to be near his daughter and fight his cancer. Over the last six months, he's become close to one particular dragonwoman. However, he doesn't want to pursue her as a dying man. But now that his cancer is gone, Ross is determined to win Lorna's heart. As the pair fight their growing attraction to one another, the only question is will Lorna open up to Ross or forever hold on to the memory of her first love?
Jessie Donovan has sold over half a million books, has given away hundreds of thousands more to readers for free, and has even hit the NY Times and USA Today bestseller lists. She is best known for her dragon-shifter series, but also writes about magic users, aliens, and even has a crazy romantic comedy series set in Scotland. When not reading a book, attempting to tame her yard, or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, she can often be found interacting with her readers on Facebook. She lives near Seattle, where, yes, it rains a lot but it also makes everything green.
After losing her mate 30 years ago Lorna Mackenzie has been alone and very devoted to her children but never found someone new to share her life with. Ross Anderson has had feelings for Lorna for a while but he didn't want to persuade her when he had cancer and might die but now with the cancer gone he finely gets the currage to try to win her heart. Aww this was so cute and I'm very happy I've read it. I haven't read anything in this series before but when I saw that this was a paranormal romance featuring a more mature couple I just couldn't resist listening to this and it was so good. I want more romance like this. Love don't just happen for young people, you know?
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received the ebook from the author for an honest review
The cover is beautiful and inspirational.
This is the 3rd book in this spin off series. It is for adults only due to the steamy scenes. While this book could be a stand-alone, I definitely advise against it. I have yet to read a book in this series that I love, and you would be doing yourself a disservice to not read them all and in the order they were written for both series. The world is so much richer and you will love all the characters you meet along the way….well except maybe the bad guys.
This book did not have the action most of Jessie’s books have because it was focused on the finding love after the loss of a mate and insecurities of not being young. It was a touching story and yes made me tear up happy tears several times. I’m a sap. I loved every moment of it. Sometimes Jessie makes love looks easy. It can get someone dreaming…lol
I highly recommend all of Jessie’s dragon shifter books (I’ve read and loved them all, and I do own most of them too!) I think there are only 3 or 4 books in another series that I haven’t read yet, but I do own them :) I can’t wait to read more of Jessie’s dragons….hopefully sooner rather than later!
Donovan takes a look at a different side of dragon culture with this one. I loved how she highlighted different aspects of their lives while also telling an excitingly romantic tale. The world that she presents is breathtaking and the lives of the characters are endlessly exciting.
Ross & Lorna are quite the pair throughout this novella. The banter and true emotion between them was so much fun. I love the way that Ross helps Lorna see herself through his eyes. They way that they complement each other, yet also still stand on their own was great. Also, the family based concerns that they both have were quite reassuring, showing just how similar dragons and humans can be. Ross and Fraser’s moment was so real. It wasn’t all emotional and touchey-feeley, but rather truly showcased both of their personalities and concerns.
As a whole, this was a unique and touching look at Ross & Lorna while still being a hot dragonshifter tale.

AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT !!! (AND FINALLY A STORY FOR US SENIORS) Title: The Dragon's Heart Series: Lochguard Highland Dragons Designation: Book Three of Series, Novella, No Cliffhanger, Can Be Read As Standalone(See remarks) Genre: Paranormal Romance, Dragon Shifters Author: Jessie Donovan My Rating: FIVE DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING STARS***** Wow! Jessie Donovan totally rocked my world - again with The Dragon's Heart, the third release in her amazingly popular Lochguard Highland Dragons Series. I've been a diehard Jessie Donovan fan for years and eagerly await each new release but I must admit, I was more excited than usual about this particular book and I think it may be my favorite to date! Yes, I know I say the same thing about every new release but this story was very special to me and here's why! Many of us are paranormal romance fans but we all know most romance stories feature young love and by that I mean, they almost always feature young adults. Now, don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'm very passionate about reading; it's my escape from life as well as my doorway to the world where I can experience a different adventure every day from the comfort of my favorite chair. I'm 64 years young and happily live vicariously through the characters of the books I read, so it would be nice for us senior citizens to occasionally read a story with a much older hero and heroine. But wait....that's exactly what Jessie Donovan has delivered to her fans with The Dragon's Heart and oh lawd - she totally nailed it! The Dragon's Heart is a heartwarming, well crafted, well edited and very sexy second chance at love for human Ross Anderson and dragonwoman Lorna Stewart MacKenzie. It was absolute perfection! The narrative was beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue was smart, sassy, seductive and well executed. But my favorite component of every Jessie Donovan story is the cast of captivating and always engaging characters, and my favorites to date are, hands down, Ross Anderson and Lorna McKenzie. I fell in love with Lorna when she was first introduced in another series and have followed her character ever since, desperately hoping the 60 year old dragon woman would find love and happiness. And when 64 year old Ross Anderson entered the series as Holly's cancer stricken father, I knew we had hope for a possible romance. I quickly discovered I wasn't alone and other fans began clamoring for Ross and Lorna to have their story told. Fortunately, Jessie Donovan listens to her fans and delivered one of her best stories to date featuring Ross and Lorna. Of course, the story also features our other Lochguard favorite characters which naturally includes Lorna's daughter Faye, and her twin sons, Fraser and Fergus and their human mates Holly and Gina, as well as clan leader Finn and his mate, Stonefire dragonwomen Arabella, now pregnant with triplets. Oh, and Fraser and Holly are expecting twins! I can hardly wait for all these dragon babies to be born and grow up to have their own stories. If you love well written paranormal romance filled to the brim with heated attraction, fiery passion and steamy, dreamy sex, then this is definitely the book for you. And yes, just for the record, senior citizens actually enjoy sex too! lol... Although the author does include ample snippets of backstory, a reader could probably enjoy this novella as a standalone...but I highly recommend reading the other books in the series. It will certainly enrich your reading experience and it will be one decision, I'm sure, you'll never regret. And yes, I said novella, it's shorter than most of Donovan's books coming in at 112 pages but it's a complete story with a delightful happy ending. So settle in, my friends and prepare to be entertained!
Sixty four year old Ross Anderson has kept his feelings for Lorna MacKenzie to himself but only because it's still been illegal for human males and dragon-shifter females to mate. Fortunately, now that his cancer is in remission and with the very public recent mating of Stonefire dragonwoman Nikki Gray to human Rafe Hartley, Ross is beginning to have hope there may now be a chance for a future with the beautiful older dragonwoman who has crept under his defenses and into his heart. Unfortunately, if he waits much longer to make his feelings known, he risks someone else trying to steal her away. And apparently, the competition for Lorna's heart is ready to make his intentions known. Oh my! Ross has spent many nights dreaming of the beautiful Lorna MacKenzie and it's past time for him to act on his feelings, win her heart and claim Lorna for himself...unless he's already waited too long. Oh no! Will Ross be able to win Lorna's heart or will Stuart MacKay sneak in and steal Lorna's affections??? Oh my goodness! Here we go again!
When reviewing and rating a book, there are several questions I always ask myself? First did I love, like or hate the story? Well, that's easy to answer. I absolutely loved it! Jessie Donovan is an exceptionally gifted storyteller with an extraordinary imagination who puts her heart and soul into every story she writes and folks, it's always obvious. Her books are always well crafted and well edited, and such a pleasure to read. Second, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some swoon-worthy love scenes. Third, will I read this author again? Abso-freaking-lutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Totally and completely entertained. I was glued to my ereader through the entire story with the pages flying as did the time. I always look forward to reading a Jessie Donovan story because I know that I'm always guaranteed a heartwarming story with a cast of wonderful characters and a lovely happy ending, and The Dragon's Heart was no exception! Congratulations Jessie Donovan on another fabulous book. I can hardly wait to see what you have in store for us next! Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review.
The Dragon's Heart Lochguard Highland Dragons Book 3 by Jessie Donovan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Dragon's Heart Lochguard Highland Dragons Book 3 is a unique and enjoyable read! Jessie Donovan is a awesome writer, I can't believe that she wrote a storyline about a older couple getting a second chance to be in love. First, I must admit that after reading three-fourths of the way the book I had a smile on my face the entire time. I was so anxious and excited to read this book! I just couldn't put my tablet down until I had finish the entire story. This story is the perfect blend of drama and sexiness. It a refreshing to read it felt so real. I enjoy Jessie Donovan writing style it's exciting, lovingly mature, and fascinating. Jessie's writing style is always spot on. She has a unique and refreshing way that's has a stream of consciousness that feel great at all times. Her writing, is interesting, intelligent and witty. I completely fell in love with Lorna! She is the type of female that I love to read about. She's mature and intelligent with a no-nonsense attitude, but beneath the surface lays a loving, strong and passionate woman. She raised her children alone, yet she prevailed and took complete control of her future. But leave it to Jessie because Oh God, the SEX! Who don't want to get to this age and enjoy yourself. There are some steamy and intimate sensual moments between Lorna and Ross. I definitely recommend The Dragon's Heart to anyone who wants to know you can still find your pleasure at any age. I always commend Jessie on a job well done! Now I love teasers and I like for you to read a small bit of why enjoyed this book.

It took everything she had not to look at Ross. She and the human got along well. Maybe too well. Lorna had long ago sworn off taking a new mate. Jamie MacKenzie had been her true mate and love of her life. She had vowed never to betray him by taking a new male. Her dragon huffed. It’s been nearly thirty years. Not even Jamie would’ve expected us to be alone this long. Even if that’s true, we’re far too old to start dating now. I don’t know the first thing to do. I do. We might be older, but we’re not dead. If you’re not going to let me fly anytime I want, then you should find a male. Sex will make us both feel good. Shush, dragon. A friend is all I want. Maybe soon you’ll stop lying to yourself. I know your feelings about him. Why deny it? She did glance at Ross then. When he met her eye and winked, Lorna’s heart skipped a beat. He was attractive, aye, but that wasn’t enough for her. If she ever did find the courage to accept another male, she wanted someone to finish growing old with. And truth be told, Lorna wasn’t sure if she was ready to open her heart to another male yet, not even one who could make her laugh or find ways to take away her stress. I’m aware of. So, why are you afraid of showing me your dragon, Lorna MacKenzie? Is it because I’m human?” Her brows furrowed again. “Of course not. Being human or dragon doesn’t influence my opinion one way or the other.” “Then what it is?” After holding his gaze a second, she sighed. “You aren’t going to let me go unless I shift, are you?” “No,” he answered with a grin. “You do remember that I’m stronger than you, right?” He growled and moved his head closer. “We’ve long established you’re stronger than me with better hearing and eyesight. You don’t have to keep kicking a man down.” Snorting, Lorna patted his chest. “But its so much fun.” Moving his hand from her back to her cheek, he murmured, “I can think of something else that’s fun.” Desire mixed with confusion filled Lorna’s eyes. “You’re being cryptic again.” “Then let me show you, woman.” Before she could push him away or reply, Ross lowered his head and kissed her.
We must give to Jessie Donovan this is a Magnificent series of paranormal romantic stories. All of the stories will leave you feeling happy and in a loving mood. This is a Fantastic Series it's scorching hot, sexy, it has romance with a attitude. If this is not the kind of stuff you like to read, skip this book. However, if you're a fan of all things naughty, sexual tension, action and humor, this is perfect for you. Enjoy! If you love romance and in need of a pick up this is definitely a fabulous choice for your TBR list.
If you believe in the world of love and romance then the possibilities are endless and fascinating.
I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good love story.
OMG, I loved this story, I absolutely love these Lochguard Dragons, but this story is so close to my heart because of the ages of the main characters. Gives one hope that there could really be someone out there for us, the not so young.
Lorna Stewart MacKenzie has only thought of and cared for her children and nephew, having been widowed almost 30 years ago while pregnant with her youngest Faye. She never had a care for herself only for others, even for her daughter in laws father who she took into her house while ill with cancer. Only she never thought to develop feelings for the human, truth is her dragon has not stopped bugging her about him and the beast may be on point.
Ross never thought he'd live to see his beautiful daughter Holly so happy and with child, much less live to see his grandchildren. What he never expected was to have feeling for a woman again, but will he be able to compete, or compare to a dragonman? Well he is certainly going to give it his all, because that dragonwoman is going to be his.
Read this heart warming story, at 60 Lorna's dragon is just as randy as any of the young ones and Ross doesn't need the little blue pill either!
Ross and Lorna romance has been set up over the first and second books in the Lochguard series. Lorna is unsure if risking her heart again is worth it. Ross decides it is time to go after the dragon woman that stirs his heart. Lorna old beau shows up. Ross has to try harder to win Lorna heart. I love how Lorna takes her time to get to know Ross and then finally goes after what she wants. I cannot wait for more books in the Lochguard series.
I loved Ross and Lorna's dragon. I thought that each character was wonderful. I loved how Lorna's dragon new that she was thinking just because she is older means that she does not need love a good male. I also felt that Lorna's dragon wanted to see her more then 'Aunt Lorna', grandma, and the one that holds the clan together.
Ross on the other hand knew Lorna was going to be his future but he did not want to make her suffer if things did not turn in his favor. I admire all that he has gone through and still realize that there is a lot more living that he can do and Lorna is the one that he wants to do it with.
I loved the scene where Faye asked Lorna and Ross if she could be the one to tell Fraser that their mother and Ross have finally became an item. Just like a little sister to be the one to annoy her big brother to no end.
I want to know who is next in this Dragon World that Jessie Donovan created.
This one resonated with me. It was a little funny, a lot romantic and a little less hectic Maybe it is because the main characters weren't 20, but in their 60's I think it has a lot to do with the age, I could relate to the age, and love over 50 It isn't easy to find love when you are 20, to find it after 50? Near impossible Enjoyable, different and fun Loved it!
A cute sweet short story of the middle aged couple. Shows even in the latter years in ones life can still very much have the passion & sweetness of love that the main age group finds. It was Very sweetly done, with the usual quirky quips and silly clan drama one expects to see by now in the series. Does have 1 open unresolved thing but I expect is probably a set up for a future book. All in all a nice easy read.
The author did an amazing job bringing this couples story to us. I have not found very many romance books with the same age characters having a full life and hot sex. In this story it was beautifully written, and handled with minimal drama. I loved that we got to see this couples journey turn out so nicely.
The story was so cute and funny. I was not sure if i would like it but I did. I enjoyed the story. Just because u are old does not mean u don't enjoy life. Both Lorna and Ross are perfect for each other. I hope to continue hearing about them as other stories come about. Thank you.
It was a cute story of two older adults finding love again and accepting it as well. The only thing that I couldn’t imagine was reading/ hearing (audio) about them having in detail of their hot sex on their age. 🙈🙊🙉But overall it was a cute story. I only recommend if you want to know about the story of Lorna’s story.
THE DRAGON’S HEART explored the relationship of Ross Anderson & Lorna MacKenzie. One thing I loved about this book, was how it discussed about falling in love again after loosing a loved one (to some, it’s VERY HARD to do). Along with two strong main characters, you encounter new surprises and big changes to Clan Lochguard.
The Dragon’s Heart (Lochguard Highland Dragons Book 3) by Jessie Donovan. Ross came to live at Lochguard with his daughter Holly and stayed with Lorna. Over the months he came to fall in love with Lorna and when an old boyfriend turned up Ross decided to stake his claim on Lorna. Luckily Lorna felt the same way. Just the overprotective children to bring round.
Glad to have read this book because usually books are always about the young. Exciting to see the older generation is not forgotten because no matter how old one is, we all need to be loved. Thank you!
This was a great read. I loved the faucet of mature love between a widow and a widower. Begin older and a widow myself it can give you hope for the future. There were a lot of lol moments that had me rolling. As always thank you for sharing your world with me.
This one wad perfect. Ok, I'll admit it really hit a soft part in my heart and soul because I'm in their age group and a widow. Us older folks need love also. This was super special.
Months ago Ross moved in to be near his Holly. Since he was recovering from cancer, Lorna volunteered to take care of him. When the doctor gives Ross word that the cancer is gone, he and Laura decide the want to see more of each other!
The Dragon's Heart is book 3 of Jessie Donovan's Lochguard Highland Dragons series. Lorena and Ross both lost their first loves go death. Together they discover their second chance at love. Their story will touch your heart.
It was so nice to see an older couple , and in their 60’s get a romance . Most think older means 30-40 . Well done this author. And it’s done so well Great book and story .
