If books were candy this would be a tootsie roll. You eat all the reeses first, then the candy bars then the starbursts, skittles, Swedish fish and then the tootsie rolls. They are still candy and you like them but they are always the last candy you eat. This is a sweet story and had some good moments, but it was exactly like every other book like this I have read. Same plot, same conflict, same characters even the same one liners. But hey it's a tootsie roll:}
This is a chaste story with a tiny bit of sensuality after marriage.

Kay Dawson – Oregon Sky Bk 3 – Ella’s Embrace – Reviewed 4/9/22 – Read 4/6/22

When Ella finds herself co-owner of a farm, she sees a better future; little did she know?

Ella finds herself at that point in her life, in what they say is past marrying age, but she does not care! For Ella, marrying meant finding the man that would love her for herself. She knew that she would know if she ever found that man through the feelings inside her. But at this point in life, she figures that she will never find him, so she throws herself into her love of horses, the only thing that makes her genuinely happy. When the man who had so lovingly given her freedom is killed, she is surprised when she finds out that she is half owner now of his farm. Oh, and the other half seems to have been left to his nephew. The man that she thought had been just a hired hand. When Titus explains the reason for the deception, Ella knows that she must help him find his uncle and brother's killer. She would move into the farmhouse alone, while Titus moved into the barn, and they could work together while he searched for the killer, and the story begins.

Join Ella and Titus in the search for the killer, and they find themselves in danger and the position of Ella’s ruined reputation…

What did I like? It is refreshing to read beautifully written stories filled with love, including an overlay of danger but all ring true to life. Or what would it have been like back during that period? It also sounds like the kind of life that my grandfather would have lived. Although having helped him write about his life, I know that his was a tad bit more exciting, having been involved in the rodeo circuit from a young tadpole almost his whole life.

What will you like? A storyline filled with tons of danger and the discovery of feelings that develop through being together. It is delightful when the two have no clue what is happening to them, but we, as the readers, can see it as plain as the smile on our faces! Of course, they run against many complications, but the outcome is more than enjoyable, as you will see! Surprises are the best part of reading, and Kay certainly knows how to add them to her books! In the next chapter in the Oregon Sky series, Kay P Dawson gives us “Ella’s Embrace,” which is available NOW!!!

DNF, and here's why.
I have read some awful writing in my time, but never to this extent.
I made two attempts to read this and just couldn't because of sentences like
“I reckon she’s come out on a wagon train and been left after she couldn’t go on perhaps."
Repetition as well, with the same word being used sometimes up to 5 times in one paragraph.
"Her hands trembled as she took it from his hands,"
"Titus had joined a wagon train headed west when he decided to come west..."
Not knowing who is speaking until after they are done instead of letting us know after the first phrase is uttered makes it very difficult to engage.
The leading male decides very early in to spill his guts to the whole town, which is just an author's lazy way of explaining everything without using imagination, pacing, or finesse to win over her readers (if anyone read that part and actually understood what he was saying, I commend your power to decipher gibberish).
This novel left me feeling irritated, and that isn't a good thing right before bed.
"Colton and Reid were sitting over under the tree..." - wow... just, wow.

Fire Destroys the Horse Barn!

Ella was nearly past marriageable age and seemed bound to become a spinster. She lived and worked on Walter Jenkins horse training ranch. Raising horses was what she loved to do. Walter was killed by a horse thief and left his ranch to Ella and his nephew, Titus. Ella lived in the house and Titus lived in the barn. Titus had been on the wagon train with Ella.

Ella woke up one night and smelled smoke. She saw flames from the barn, rushed out , and got Titus out before the barn collapsed. The managed to get all of the horses out and got an old mule named Wally also on the night of the fire. Ella and Titus spent all night putting out the fire and saving the livestock. While cleaning up after the fire, Titus and Ella realized they loved each other.

Will they marry? Will they be able to rebuild the barn? You will need to read this book to find out!

Ella's Embrace brings together Ella Wallace and Titus Cain as co-owners of a farm where Titus's uncle Walter raised horses when Walter was killed chasing a horse thief. Ella wants her independence, to marry for love and to have a home and family of her own. Titus wants to find the murderer of his younger brother and Uncle Walter and return back East to Tennessee.

As they work together and find clues to the identity of the murderer and face dangers together romance develops despite the verbal sass and bating of each other. They are found in a compromising situation and have to face the consequences together until the two stubborn pair find a way to a happy ever after.

I found the story entertaining on a level with the old Roy Rogers series on Sunday mornings after attending church and before eating a big fried chicken dinner surrounded by family. The editing isn't the cleanest, but then, the predictability meter went off the charts right from the start. Of course, having lived in the Oregon City area for several years, I didn't see the connection to the scenery described in the story. It felt more like Central or Eastern Oregon, but then, time can change a lot of things, especially landscapes. A real feel-good, sweet romance without any carnal secrets being let out of the bag.

This is a great continuation of the Oregon Sky series. Titus Cain had come to Bethany, Oregon with the wagon train. He set to work for Walter, who turned out to be his uncle. While working for his uncle he met Ella a headstrong girl from a neighboring farm. Ella was working horses for Walter. After the death of Walter, Ella learns she is now the proud owner of half of Walter's land. She learns that Titus whom she assumed was just an employee of Walter's was the other part owner. This book has mystery, intrigue, romance and wonderful characters. This can be a stand alone book or read as a series. If you want updates on previous characters they do make appearances in the continuation books!

Sweet, but not cloyingly ao

The Oregon Series, all three books so far, have been enjoyable. Good characterizations and good plots. The only jarring aspects of the reading are the author's lack of correct verb usage and lack of correct pronoun usage. The most frequent verb error s the misuse of the correct form of lie and lay. Finding the wrong verb in a smooth passage sets my teeth on edge. Obviously the proofreader has the same lack of understanding of lie and lay and pronoun useage. If those errors were removed, the read woul be more satisfying.

so good!

The love story kept me smiling! It has its own share of problems to resolve, mystery to solve, and hearts to heal. And all of it wrapped in a nice package of two people who are learning of how love they need and not just wish for should look like.
I also appreciated how Kay portrayed the difficulties women faced and how helpless and our of control they felt sometimes. It amazes me the easy way the author creates a story of romance but weaves in issues which could grip and make one think.

I had the nagging feeling I had read this book before. I searched all through my Amazon account for the past n years and came up blank. So, let me rephrase this - I have read many books like this over the years. It wasn't a bad book. It was mildly diverting at bedtime, didn't take long to read, and didn't demand much emotional engagement (apart from worrying about the mule). OK, rather than great.

4.5 Stars.

Such a joy to read! This story was just what I needed. I liked the characters, the plot, the writing. I'm kind of sad the book has ended. Ella's Embrace was relatively fast-paced, although it did suffer from the mid-point-slump. I figured out the mystery early on and I'm happy the author didn't drag it out. The balance between dialog, action and narrative are just right for me. I look forward to going back and reading the previous books in this series.

Loving this series!
Ella works on her neighbor's farm taking care of the animals. When he dies unexpectedly, she finds out that she and his nephew are the new owners of the farm. However, she does not realize just how much the nephew owns. When determination takes over, and she decides she will run the farm, problems arise. The nephew, Titus Cain, has worked with her brother on wagon trains before. He does not have a good reputation for being easy to work with.

Good Story, Lots of Action

This is the story of Ella, Colton's twin sister (Colton is the lead man in Book 1of the series). And of Titus, who is also in Book 1. Neither believes they will ever marry, but circumstances happen and it turns out love happens too.. There's a bit of mystery and an interesting mule making this an interesting and enjoyable book. Although it is not necessary to read the books in order,I highly recommend it.

Ella had always wanted a farm of her own. She wanted to train horses. Walter hired her to do just that. When he was killed she inherited the land. But someone was willing to kill for this land. She and Travis are trying to find out who. This is a good short story with danger, intrigue, and warmhearted feelings. Enjoy it.

Emma's Embrace(Oregon Sky Series Book 3

Ella was a very hard string woman who could do anything around the farm a man could do and was determined she was not going to marry anybody unless she was in love with and he was in love with her. Now you will have to read the book to find out who she married , why and if it's going to work ! Go and get the book !!

Lovely sweet story

This is the third book in this series and I've enjoyed reading about the different siblings in the family and they lived in Oregon after coming across the prairie by wagon train. The plots are well developed and keep your interest as do the characters. Good read!

Great Story......

I've been enjoying this series of stories about the characters in a family that have gone west to stArt a new life. With a claim on land, they have a way to begin. This is a story of the daughter and the hope she has to be on her own, when she inherits a horse ranch.

Mehh

Hard for me to finish. I didn't really connect with the characters, and I couldn't help but wonder if the author has actually ever been to Oregon. Nothing about the setting details screamed Oregon.

Loved this book!

I really enjoyed this story, most of all Wally! My guess is he was really not a mule, which is from a horse mare and a donkey jack, but from a donkey Jenny and a horse stallion. But the storyline was awesome and really loved the ending!

preconceived notions can hinder God’s plan

Good story. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own head and let God lead the way. Wally, the mule, was a cute addition to this story.
