The colorful world of birds! Birds come in all different shapes, sizes, and yes, colors, too!
From the eastern bluebird and blue jay to the scarlet tanager and northern cardinal, little ones will discover the natural world and learn the names and colors of Phyllis Limbacher Tildes’s exquisitely illustrated birds in their natural habitats. The color word appears large and bold, and each bird is labeled by name, as are flowers, fruits, and foliage. Each bird is color coded and has a name and gender for children to easily identify.
Frankly I’m super proud to have found this book because my son loves it and most of the times he doesn’t care about the books I specifically buy based on his interests.
This book doesn’t waste time with plot and characters. It cuts that crap and lets the reader fully interpret the images. The illustrations are beautiful of course and it leaves you wondering, where there ever birds or was it a puzzle all along?
A nice board book for teaching young ones there colors using real birds. Two things slightly bother me about this, though. For one, there were no listings for purple, such as Purple Martins, and the colors black and white were combined into one listing, when they could easily be separated into birds such as American Crow and Common Raven for black and Snowy Owl and Trumpeter Swan for white.

Summary: This book is an easy to read and very simple picture book. It begins with red, and goes through all colors that birds can be. Each page gives one example of a bird totaling two birds for each color. The last page shows an illustrated picture of children playing with a bird puzzle.
Review: This book would be great for babies and preschoolers, but overall the book is extremely simple and not very entertaining. I feel as though children would get easily bored with this book since it is so straightforward and informational. If this book is used as a learning tool then this is perfect, but I do not think children would enjoy this book if it is read for leisure.
Tildes, Phyllis Limbacher. Baby’s First Book of Birds & Colors, BOARD BOOK. Charlesbridge, 2017. $7.99.
This board book takes the reader through various colors and the birds that match them. Each color has two corresponding birds and notes whether the birds illustrated are female or male. There is a note on the back of the book about which plants are pictured along with the birds. The pictures are very realistic and colorful. This is a great combination of early learning skills (colors) and nonfiction.
Fun, fascinating, color-filled pages for the youngest of readers. Beautifully enhanced with bright, rich colors, the different birds and plants will delight and entice children to turn the board pages again and again. Reviewer #15
Great, realistic illustrations. Two birds are designated for each color, with bird names written nearby for identification. Birds are generally pictured on a flowering plant that fits the page’s color, it would be nice to have the plant names on the pages as well.
Gorgeously illustrated book for little ones. The colors are vivid, the drawings are pretty accurate with reality, and on the back cover there is a list of plants and trees that are part of the book. Highly recommend for babies 3m +!
This precious book teaches children about nature, bird names, bird identification, and plant identification along with colors. My wee one loves this book.
