Describes the battle of the Alamo in March 1836 as Mexican soldiers overwhelmed the Texian Alamo defenders, and explains what the battle symbolizes today. The reader s choices reveal historical details from the perspective of a Mexican soldier and a Texian rebel.
This was my first 'choose your own adventure' book, and I read it in conjunction with my 9 & 11 year old boys for our history segment in homeschool. It ended up being a lot of fun & informative for the time period! I liked how each outcome was based off a true person's story and the reader is presented with multiple POVs from the Alamo both the Texan side and the Mexican side. We will absolutely be looking for more of these adventure books for our history curriculum!
It’s interesting to read different aspects of the battle from different perspectives, but I don’t like jumping around in the book to read. It would be better if each persons perspective was a different chapter.
A few days ago I started reading The Battle Of The Alamo By: Amie Jane Leavitt This book is very touching and exiting because many soldiers die, but at the same time they fight until they have no energy left.My favorite person in this story is William B. Travis because he really takes charge of helping every single person that is in the Alamo. The battle of the Alamo was a fight between Texas independence from Mexico. The Texans did not like the laws of Mexico that was the reason the battle was caused. A part in the story that is very suspenseful is when is William B. Travis draws a line in the sand with his sword and says "If you want to die and fight for the Alamo then step across this line and everyone does, witch made me want to go fight in the Military. If you like history books that have a lot of interesting things then you should read this book.
A "Choose Your Own Adventure" type book for young readers about The Alamo and its importance in Texan history. Purchased at The Alamo gift shop to help my kids remember more of what happened there in March 1836. Your first decision: are you a Texian fighting for liberty, or a Mexican soldier following orders from General Santa Anna? Includes a glossary, timeline and great pictures. Reading level appropriate for 4th and 5th graders.
This was an excellent addition to what we've already read/studied about the Alamo. I would have liked to have had another path (the first choice) to follow. In this book there was only two choices. That being said, it was a great book that got my kids to see how the realities of being a Mexican soldier instead of just hearing the hero story of the Alamo in Texas history.
