When Heather Shepherd realizes that her secret donut recipe book has been stolen, she knows exactly who’s behind it. Until she turns up at Geoff Lawless’ new store and finds the thief, Jelly Polinski, dead on the floor.
She’s stunned and suspicious but has to back off because she’s one of the prime suspects in this new, murder case. Heather won’t take this lying down – she decides to investigate, sprinkling her friends and dog pal, Dave, into the mixture, treading where no intrepid baker has dared to tread before. This time around, Heather has to dodge questions from the police, avoid Ryan’s eyes and manage to sell out of her grandmother’s secret creation, Pistachio Lemon Glazed Donuts, before the mystery killer strikes again.
But Heather's sleuthing instincts could end up causing more trouble than solving the case is worth – can she discover the truth before it’s too late?
Heather Shepherd's doughnut shop, Donut Delights, is going to have competition. Local tough guy, Geoff Lawless, is opening his own bakery, Delightful Donuts, right across town. Already steamed about the similar name for his new business, Heather is even more upset when she discovers her grandmother's recipe book has been stolen from her office. The book contains all of the recipes for Heather's doughnut creations. She goes across town to confront Geoff (who was seen lurking outside her doughnut shop that day) about the missing book.....only to discover a dead body. Jelly Polinski lies dead on the floor.... Uh oh.....Heather finds herself a suspect in another murder case related to her shop, and theft of her grandmother's recipes. She's back on the case to clear her name!
This story is a light, entertaining read. I like the photo of the doughnut on the front cover! It definitely looks yummy!
As in past books there are editing issues with this story. Nothing major....just mistakes that should have been corrected before publication. Sentences that use incorrect words or wrong pronouns...the sort of mistakes that spell check won't correct but an editor would. Plus some grammar errors. Like I said...nothing major, but it does pull my attention away from the story when I hit multiple mistakes. Editing is very important, even in self-published books. But.....that being said.....I still enjoyed the story.
Pistachio Lemon Glazed Murder is the 12th book in the Donut Hole cozy mystery series. There are 60 novellas in this series, along with a spin-off series, Oceanside Cozy Mysteries. I like the characters and the doughnut shop theme. The books are fun to read, but they do need better editing.
Probably the one I liked the least in the series. The names, the whole investigation, the trivialities .. they all bothered me. Even the doughnut bothered me.
Heather Shepherd, owner of Donut Delight's discovers her grandmother's donut recipe book is missing. Heather knows who is behind the theft, Geoff Lawless, her competition. Going into Geoff's new shop, Heather discovers the book with Jelly Polinski, the thief. Only Jelly is dead and when Geoff walks in he thinks Heather has killed Jolly. Before Geoff came in, Heather had already called the police but now she needs to clear her name. The donut of the book is the Lemon Pistachio Glazed donut. This is book # 12 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mysteries series, it can be read as a stand alone. Good mystery with interesting and realistic characters. I volunteered to read this eBook. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
Heather is back to the snooping. Though she still studying in this book for her PI's license, Ryan gives her the go ahead to investigates as he's been forced to take a back set. Detective Davidson is a character that I just don't like. He comes out of nowhere and is built to have a very abrasiveness. I understand the need to have another detective to investigate Heather, but he's weird. With out much of a back story he doesn't fit into the story very well. Other then that, I enjoy the little sleuthing that Amy and Heather do in this books. I feel like it's a little weird that Ryan was so ok with it, but I've come to terms with the yo-yo in the character's personalities. It's a nice light read and a good continuation of the series.
.A new donut shop across town was opening. She looks for her grandmother’s recipe book and it is gone. Now going to see Geoff Lawless to get it back.the owner of the new shop, and the name now he is copying. Jelly was laying on the floor, a fishing line, and her grandmother’s book. Did she steal to help her new employee, or was Geoff really to blame. Good plot, and easy to read.
1. She gives away a LOT of donuts. How does she stay in business? 2. Her police officer husband encourages her (an unlicensed in-training PI) to investigate because he doesn’t trust the officer in charge. 3. So. Many. Typos. 4. She accidentally Tasered herself?? I would have DNF’d if it was any longer and I wasn’t using this book for a team readathon.
Heather Shepherd is right where she wants to be, working in her donut shop, Donut Delights. She was showing one of her employees how to make her grandmother’s Lemon Pistachio Glazed Donut when she decided she to get her grandmother’s recipe book out of its hiding place. Heather’s grandmother’s donut recipe book had helped her make Donut Delights the success it was. But her heart sank when she discovered that the book was gone. Someone had stolen it and she knew exactly who it was: Geoff Lawlass! Geoff was in the process of opening his own donut shop, Delightful Donuts, and Heather didn’t put it past him to steal her recipes and she was going to go over to his shop and get her grandmother’s book back.
When she entered Geoff's still closed shop Heather saw her recipe book. It was in the arms of Jelly Polinsky who was lying dead on the floor. What was Jelly doing here? She worked as a clerk at the local bait and tackle shop. Suddenly Geoff came in thinking that Heather hurt Jelly. It’s a good thing Heather had called the police already. The bad thing is that Heather became the prime suspect in Jelly’s death. No one is going to pin the poor woman’s death on her so Heather and her best friend, Amy, know they are going to have to take matters into their own hands and investigate the murder themselves. It isn’t that Heather didn’t trust Detective Davidson but she would have preferred that her husband, Detective Ryan Shepherd, was investigating instead.
“Lemon Pistachio Glazed Murder” by Susan GIllard is the twelfth book in this delightful cozy series. What I like best about all of the books is that they are fast, easy reads filled with charming characters. How can you not love people who think, eat, and make donuts all day, every day?
The murder is simple and uncomplicated. All the facts are laid out in front of you. The characters are likable. Heather is not only a donut maker but also a private investigator wannabe. She’s actually going to school for it. Amy, Heather’s best friend is always there for backup. And there’s also Dave, Heather’s loyal dog who knows a good donut when he sees one.
The rest of the cast of characters are also wonderful and it’s nice to see how they evolve from book to book.
Every novel in this series is good for a summertime read. Lounge out on a beach towel, in front of a pool, or right beside your fan and visit Heather and her friends and see what donuts they’re serving up next.
Even though Pistachio Lemon Glazed donuts don't sound very appetizing to me (a plain glazed, please!), that didn't stop me from loving this story. Heather is back in her element when something near and dear to her is stolen and her attempt at retrieval brings her face to face with a dead body. Since she finds herself on the list of suspects, her husband, Ryan, is put on the back burner and another detective takes the lead. I love the relationship between Heather and Ryan because he loves her no matter how many times she investigates when told not to and you know that deep down he is extremely proud and amazed at her ability to solve these puzzles. Dave being on a diet made me laugh! As with the other books in this series, I'm very much looking forward to the next one! I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
The plot thickens in this installment. Heather and her BFF Amy have to find the murderer of Jelly because Heather is a suspect when she is found by Geoff standing over Jelly murdered with fishing line. The evidence, Heather's grandmother's recipe book is found under Jelly's body. At the same time, Donut Delights is about to go live on the internet.
I love the fact that these characters grow. Heather is learning to be a PI, so she can legally assist her husband on his cases. Amy had her meltdown in her friendship with Heather when Kent was hurt. We get to see more of Angelica, Marciella, Jung and Ken. Even Dave is a regular with his weak bladder. Each book has shown a more mature cast of quirky characters. I love these books!
In this installment, Heather Shepherd’s grandmother’s donut recipe book is stolen again and Geoff Lawless, Club Liquid’s bouncer, has opened a donut shop in Hillside. Heather is certain Geoff is responsible for the theft and sets out to confront him in her shop. When Heather arrives, she discovers the body of Jelly Polinski in her new competitor’s donut shop and calls the police. Heather is Detective Davidson’s prime suspect because the recipe book was found tucked under Jelly’s strangled body. Heather’s best friend, Amy, encourages Heather to investigate with her and they set out to try to clear Heather’s name.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly I give this book a three-star rating because I couldn't get past some of the grammatical errors as well as other errors in the book that kind of had me confused. It was a very good story however they never really explained why the murderer was who he was and the fact that the guy opening up the donut shop was the way he was. It was just way too much, going on but not enough and I guess what made it even worse was the fact that the author when she was writing confused I guess his sister with the murder victim I don't know just very confusing and it wasn't my favorite book by far.
Heather ends up in the middle of a murder as a suspect once again. There is a new donut shop opening and someone steals Heather's recipe book that was her grandmother's and the basis for most of her recipes. She goes over to get back her book and finds a dead body. There is a new detective taking the lead on this murder investigation and he sure doesn't seem to know what he's doing. He also seems to want to pin it on Heather. Heather has to figure it out and save herself before it's to late.
I love to see how the people in a book become more robust. In this series I can see the relationships go to new levels both personally and in their interactions with each other. Who knew that a donut shop could also house a wannabe P.I. I can guarantee when you read this book you will go back and read the entire series.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When Heather's grandma's recipes are stolen she is out to find them but finds a body instead. Ryan has to stay on the outskirts of the case but with a little help from some friends the killer is found. I like this series the books are a nice length and fun to read. They sure make you want to try a few more donuts.
Heather and Ryan make a great crime s solving problemsteam.
Heather seams to be near the crimes that are happening. She is like a magnet. Ryan is able to help where he can. But she needs to complete her studies if she wants him to be able to call on her to help. I will be in line for the next book.
I enjoyed the book although this one was a little light. The biggest problem was the editing. He/she used inappropriately. On/one. Perhaps a lot of readers wouldn't notice but I did and it made the reading less enjoyable and more of a let's find the next mistake. I tried not to do that.
Heather Shepherd 's grandmothers recipe donut book is stolen for the second time. Heather sets out on a search for it only to find the dead body of Jelly Polinski. Heather becomes the main suspect. Another fun, quick read In this cozy series with Heather and her friends. Love Dave the dog.
Love having this series as my "grab and go " reading and I keep it on my phone at all times. Just wish they would correct all the typo before sending it out.
