DNF at 35%.

I L.O.V.E. a married by mistake story so when I saw this on NetGalley and read the blurb, look at the cover! It screamed read me.

The start is a little like that Cameron Diaz classic film What Happens in Vegas, Elle Hawthorne wakes up in a Vegas hotel room after one too many tequilas to find she is in bed with her high school boyfriend, the one who broke her heart. Not only that but she has a shiny gold ring on her finger.

Connor Grayson is equally as shocked as Elle, but when his beloved grandmother is in hospital and bemoaning that she will die before her favourite grandson gets married he asks Elle to continue their deception for just a little longer.

So that's the book I wanted to read. Unfortunately there was also a quartet of elderly Elvis impersonators (who happened to be friends with Connor's grandmother) and Connor's grandmother was probably the character who led me to create the "irritating seniors" tag for my Goodreads books!

If you like books about hapless couples being led around by the nose by opinionated and scheming senior citizens then I think you will love this - it wasn't what I wanted.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This was a sweet story about long lost love. Connor and Ellie were together in high school, but didn't work out, leaving them both feeling pretty darn bitter towards one another. After a tequila fueled night in Vegas they wake up in bed together......married. They're both ready to call it quits immediately until Connor discovers his grandmother has had a heart attack. He hopes that he can use his unwanted marriage to help keep her alive, or at least allow her to die happy knowing her grandson had found love (and not turned into a carbon copy of his bitter father). The couple faces several challenges to include fixing up an old home together, fooling disbelieving friends, major family drama, abandonment issues, and a quartet of meddling Elvis impersonators. Yes, Elvis impersonators.

Apparently this is the second book in this series? The first book is Olivia's story- Along Came Mr. Right . While this can be read as a standalone, which I think is what the author and publisher intended, I think a bit of the backstory about Ellie, Olivia, and Jordan's friendship and girl's night out tradition, as well as why the chose the location they did for their weekly meet ups, would have been helpful.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I thought the chemistry between Ellie and Connor was lukewarm at best. I just wasn't buying him as super hunky love interest. He was kind of robotic. They did heat up towards the end, but they aren't a couple that will leave readers envying their spark. Some of the dialogue felt forced and somewhat formal for everyday speak. The plot's pacing felt off at times. It seemed like Connor and Ellie went from hatred to lust to love much too quickly.

I did enjoy this book even with the faults I found, but I didn't love it. I thought it was a nice light read. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding Connor's mom's disappearance, the "Birthday Club", Elvis x 4, Viola, Zanzibar, and all the work/planning details taking place in "Grayson House". I'm assuming Jordan's story is next? I'll definitely read that one as well. She seems like a character I'll have an easier time connecting with.

I received an advance copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

As the Katy Perry song says, "Shut up and put your money where your mouth is. That's what you get for waking up in Vegas."

When former high school loves Ellie and Connor do just that, they also discover that in addition to raging hangovers, they picked up some extra hardware: wedding rings. They're eager to get a quickie divorce, but a family emergency back home pushes that back a bit. Add in a major renovation project, a manipulative grandmother, and four Elvis impersonators, and "The first year is the hardest" takes on a whole new meaning.

I wanted to like this book. I wanted to like this book so much. I'm a sucker for second-chance romance (blame Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth for that one), and the book started out incredibly strong. The first chapter was a hoot, and I was ready to settle in for a quick, fun read.

And then, it just got...long. Everything that happened to the characters was either based on completely improbable coincidence or their refusal to see something that was right in front of them. But, no worries, because every issue ended up being resolved with a quick snap of the fingers. There wasn't really any growth between them, either. Even Connor's major hang-up that caused him to leave Ellie brokenhearted on that long-ago Prom night is resolved with a quick phone call and a sweet little bow.

Finally, the ending came out of absolute nowhere. It felt like Russell had told all of her story and then realized that it was way too short. Instead of fleshing out the issues that the characters had faced so far and adding in some vitally-needed character development, she tacks on something else entirely which consumes the last third of the book.

Nope- don’t waste Your TIME!

H-Conner
h-Ellie
This story is really confusing & kind of all over the place. So both Connor & Ellie were high school sweethearts til prom day he “supposedly” stood her up & according to Ellie he cheated on her. Connor has a different story where his version is that Ellie abandoned him (just like his mother) Fast forward to either 10 or 11 years later (w/out seeing each other since they broke up)where they both woke in their bed & married. They both don’t have recollection of the wedding night. While they were in the hotel entera either 4 or 5 Elvis impersonator & they witness their wedding. Connor got a call from his dad telling him that his grandma is in the hospital & is that doing so good. Connor knows that his grandma’s dream is for Connor to get married so he asked Ellie if she can pretend they are together as husband & wife at least til grandma gets better.
So a few this:
-I listened to the Audio & even though is in both POV it was only 1 person narrating the voices of the story which was very confusing cause many times you don’t know who is talking!
-If they love each other so much why wait 10+ years to give each other a chance! & how drunk can you be that when u see the person who you love breaks your heart YOU would greet them with open arms.
-Grandma- she planned it all along where both Ellie & Connor won a trip to Vegas(I think that’s what happened) & the grandma knew they were perfect for each other & pretty much that’s how it happens.
- The story itself was very boring & somewhat predictable. I didn’t like this story at all!

I won this book as a FirstRead.

When Ellie Hawthorne heads to Las Vegas to network for her event planning business, the last thing she expects is to wake up married to Connor Grayson, her ex-boyfriend from high school, in a midnight ceremony at an Elvis chapel. Both agree it was a mistake that needs corrected immediately, but Connor gets a call that his grandma has had a heart attack. In her last conversation with Connor, his grandma said how she hopes to see him settled down before she dies, so Connor convinces Ellie to keep up the marriage until his grandma has recovered. The four Elvises follow the couple home to Seattle, intent to make sure Connor and Ellie realize they really should stay married.

I typically love second-chance romances, but this book was a little too over-the-top for me. It felt like the plot belonged in a telenovela. Without the grandma, the Elvises, and the ex-girlfriend, the story could have been good. I don't think I will read more books by this author.

Married at Midnight

What do you get when you mix one fiesta grandmother, four scheming Elvis’, and a drunk married in Vegas couple who haven’t spoken since they broke up in high school? A whole lot of mess! Connor and Ellie dated in high school and had grand plans for the future, until they broke up on prom night. They haven’t spoken to each other since, and each is still hurt over the circumstances of the break up that has more to do with their pasts and less to do with what actually happened. After a night in Vegas that started off with Tequila shots Ellie wakes up hungover and married to Connor. But before they can get an annulment or divorce Connor gets a calls that his Grandmother Viola has had a heart attack and the newlyweds decide to stay married to keep grandma happy. Much chaos ensues because grandma isn’t as weak and feeble and Connor thinks. This was a fun read a little slow paced for my liking but still a great story. Now to see if Jordan got her own hea.

(This review is based on the ARC provided by the publisher via Net Galley)

This was a second chance romance novel which had a good story, but nothing unique or special. It was my first time reading a novel by Gerri Russell and I found that I really enjoyed her writing and the dual point of view style of writing because it helped the reader understand the characters. I enjoyed Connor's character because he was intelligent and understood his flaws and he made the effort to change it. At points I felt Ellie's character very boring and she always seemed to feel sorry for herself. The chemistry between Connor and Ellie was good, but it could have been better. I found that I wasn't able to fully understand their decision to break up the first time and end up hating each other, so that was a bit confusing for me. I enjoyed the addition of the meddling Elvis impersonaters because they reminded me of Melody Anne's books. Overall an okay second chance romance novel.

This was a sweet romance about young second chance love. Ellie and Connor have known each other since high school, and have a past together. They meet again in Las Vegas, and with the help of 4 Elvis's and lots of tequila, they end up married. What happened in Vegas does not stay in Vegas. It follows them to Seattle where Connor's grandmother is in the hospital following a heart attack, and he wishes to stay married until his grandmother gets better. He is the inventor of a self driving car, and Ellie is an event planner. Together they discover what really matters in life after various trials and tribulations. Very nice story.

Easy read, especially on five-hour drives to & from Fourth of July holiday destination.

Crises averted (a villain caught and punished), bonus couples came together, and Connor and Ellie are blessed even beyond the love they realized they had for each other (concept car, event planning in fu swing, the legacy of Grayson House, etc.).

Woo hoo!

Overall I enjoyed reading this book. The only think that keeps it from five stars for me were the sex scenes. They were a bit ridiculous and did not really add anything to the rest of the book. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a good scene but skipped over them entirely

I won this books in a goodreads giveaway on my kindle. A quick light fluffy read but I feel like there's too much going on in such a short book. I think some things should have been left out and it could have been a sequel or something along those lines. Also way too many characters for such a short novel.

When I started reading this book, and for the first few chapters, I thought it was going to be a typical and predictable romance novel that would be an enjoyable, light read. I was wrong! The characters brought the story to life and the surprises throughout added depth and emotion, not only to the story but felt by me as the reader.

Lately, I’ve been trying to get into the whole married by mistake/love in Vegas stories. To this date, I’ve only read one of those stories that I have truly loved. I saw Married by Midnight on Net Galley and loved the blurb! Exactly what I was looking for and Gerri Russell is a new author to me so I thought I’d give it a try.

Ellie Hawthorne is in Vegas trying to revive her failing event planning career. One to many tequilas later she wakes up in bed with some strange man. Actually, it turns out to be someone she knows very well, her high school ex-boyfriend Connor Grayson. To top it all off, they were married at an Elvis wedding chapel.

Connor Grayson is just as confused as Ellie when he wakes up. However, things take a quick change when he receives a phone call that his grandmother is in the hospital. Connor’s grandmother has a dying wish to see her grandson married. Reality is, even though neither of them remembers, Ellie and Connor are married. Connor asks Ellie to keep up the ruse and stay married just until his grandmother leaves the hospital.

The story was great right up until that point. Once the meddling grandmother is brought in and the four Elvis impersonators, I lost interest. If it would have continued with two people falling back in love with each other and the grandmother would have not been butting in, I think the story would have been different for me. I was really put off that these two very intelligent human beings NEVER put two and two together to figure out that someone was trying to force them to be together. And the Elvis impersonators? The author totally lost me on that one.

The one thing I did enjoy was the little twist at the end. That was a surprise and I never saw it coming. All and all, I enjoyed the beginning and the end of this book but feel the storyline should have gone differently.

This story was okay and there were a couple of entertaining moments in this story. One of the major problems in this story was the inability to connect with the characters. There was no character development and the only thing that I knew about the characters were that they had mommy and daddy issues. The story starts off with the main characters waking up in bed together. The only twist that is…BAM….they used to date. After discovering that they are indeed married, Conner, a hot name by the way, gets a call from his dad about his grandmother having a heart attack. There is a lot of things in this book that does not make sense. First, Conner has held on for a hate towards Ellie for 11 years and the reasoning was glossed over. They both say that they broke each other's heart, but it is nothing major or interesting.

This book lacked the heart and passion that I was expecting from this book. This book is a major cliché to me and there was not a wow factor. The one thing that kinda threw me off was the pov from the Elvis impersonators from Las Vegas. If the author had left out their pov, then the culprit behind the whole thing would have been a surprise, which in turn, would have made the story more entertaining. Their pov offers nothing to the story besides the fact that they are old, single men in love with the same woman. The big climax of the story was entertaining and I enjoyed the family dynamic that was involved. The grammar was good and the book was well written. Aside from the flaws, the book was solid, the story had a plot, and the book started off strong and it picks up towards the end.

Not everything that happens in Vegas stays there. I thought the blurb was quite interesting. Sounded like an easy, fun read. Plus second chance romance.

Connor and Ellie were long lost loves from high school that didn't exactly work out.
leaving them both feeling pretty darn bitter towards one another. After a tequila fueled night in Vegas they wake up in bed together......married. Horrified, they're both ready to call it quick divorce. Until Connor discovers a family emergency, using his grandma's ailing health they try to keep it up. The normal first year activities ensured, playing house and some drama. Ok the Elvis guys were pretty creepy.

Second book in a series that I had no idea prior but worked as a standalone. I think though some backstory would have been a good addition to the story though Some things needed fleshing out, like the issues they faced, they just solved fast, it leaves me wanting to know more. I am not entirely sure how to feel about the hero who apparently so hot but he didn't do anything for me. I didn't feel much chemistry between them it was ok at best. Some cute and sweet, hotter moments more toward the end and they spiced it up somewhat. The pacing did feel quite fast and just ended up abruptly. Everything just wrapped up so fast.

Overall, it was ok. Fast, light read. I wanted to like it more but sadly the beginning had more promise to it. One secondary character who I'm hoping has a book caught my interest.

I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and I thank them, because I enjoyed this light right very much.

While this is your typical romance/chick lit story, I found it well written. No foul language and the sex scenes were tasteful, for those who care about such things. Characters, descriptions, scenarios were all well done and plausible.

I found the writing flowed well, and the characters were quite likable. There was humor, some romance, a little suspense, and an all-around good story.

The only thing that would have made it better would have been a prologue, to give us brief glimpses of Ellie and Grayson's Vegas wedding. Where did her diamond ring come from? How did the two of them go from hotel bar to wedding? Just how much did the Elvis Quad influence the outcome? Brief scenes as Ellie wakes up from her wedding night hangover would have given a little more solidity to the story. Or perhaps an e-book short (.5 in the series maybe?) of about 40-60 pages that describes Ellie and Grayson's hotel bar reunion and trip down the aisle.

I could see this book becoming a trilogy with Trevor and Jordan's story as the next installment. I would definitely read more books by this author, especially a sequel.

This review is based on an ARC I received via NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book. Connor and Ellie's story is one of second chance romance. What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. Ellie and Connor are facing the consequences of their actions. But were there actions all on their own or did fate ;) give a little push.

As the story unfolds I began to love the supporting characters just as much as the main characters.
There is a lot of love that unfolds but Connor and Ellie are to wrapped up in the past. When they are forced on a path that neither foresaw it becomes the path that is best for them.

There are many cute moments, the fish hook in the head, the falling of the ladder, the Grandma, the Elvises. All of these things make this a book that brought a smile to my face and had me shaking my head when the dark tried to drift in. Gerri Russell did a great job of building a story that I couldn't get enough of with characters that are easy to empathize with. It is nicely written at a fast pace and I look forward to more by Gerri Russell.
