If you've been told a hundred times to pray Scripture, but struggle with what to pray. It has a section of scripture for all stages of prayer and is written to allow both structured prayer and free prayer. An excellent book to help out your prayer life.
Got this book in a white elephant exchange my sophomore year of college. It revolutionized my prayer life and is probably an undercurrent for why I worship with the liturgical Anglican church today.
I loved this book and will keep it by my bedside. Gave me a way to pray based on the Lord's Prayer with different scriptures and gives me a guided way to pray. I will be picking this one up often in my pray time.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a simple guided prayer book, where for three months you pray through different aspects of God’s Word. I love how the author made the verses come alive by wording them in the first person so that praying them back to God is easier! I will be returning to this book again and again!
I started this a few years ago and wasn't really drawn in, but I am so glad I came back to it for another try! The use of Scripture as a focus point before each element of guided prayers is something we need more of... I think going on the Soulwell Ministries journey (a series of three retreats for either men or women that I HIGHLY recommend) influenced my ability to engage with each day's readings in a more meditative way than I would have before - I'm very task oriented by nature.
If you don't have a regular prayer practice already established, I'd recommend Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (and the companion devotional) as well as New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp.
This book is designed to be read over the course of 3 months. Each day there is a list of Scriptures that are placed into the second person so they address God. So, for example, Galatians 3:21 goes from “Are the promises opposed to God’s law? to “Are the promises opposed to Your law O God?” The purpose of the book is to enable the reader to pray the ideas of Scripture to God. I found this to be a wonderful boost to my prayer life. I have enjoyed a depth in my prayers far greater than what they were like before. I highly recommend this book.
Kenneth Boa's Face To Face walks you through praying through all the parts of prayer modeled by Jesus in the Lord's prayer. It has 3 months of daily prayer prompts with scriptures to read, reflect on, and pray to God. If you are stuck because you don't know to prayer, have gotten in a rut, or simply want help praying scripture this is a great resource. He has written additional volumes, but you can also start over at the beginning and reuse the book multiple times.
Praying Scripture has rewired my brain for the things of God. I love the way the prayers are structured around the way Jesus taught us to pray. On days when life is hard and words fail me…I can lean into these prayers and draw closer to the One who is holding me.
This book is an excellent prayer book and enables the prayer warrior to add personal petitions and personalize prayer at each prayer form. The scripture based prayers are meaningful and so good for the heart. It has 3 months and I just restart at the end of each 3 months. I have purchased several of these to give as gifts.
Personalizing scripture to add to the intimacy and depth of your prayer life is what you find in the pages of this beautiful book. I received it as a gift, and what a gift it has been! I will be reading it over and over again.
This is quite simply a perfect devotional book. A woman in my Bible study gifted every person in our Bible study with this book before she moved away. I have been so blessed and my prayers have been so deep thanks to this book.
It has taught me how to pray better. I loved taking this journey through prayer. I recommend this to to anyone who doesn't know how to pray or wanting to know the importance of praying.
This book has helped me so much with my morning prayer life. I love how scripture was turned into various types of prayer. It is organized and formatted really well.
My favorite prayer book! I have used it pretty consistently since 2000, and I never tire of it. It is in a three month cycle of daily Scriptural prayer. I LOVE the daily "Morning Affirmations" and I say them as I stretch out my body every morning and "present my body as a living and holy sacrifice" (Romans 12:1-2 - and the first morning affirmation).
What is so cool is that it is now in a KINDLE book. I can now take it with me on my phone everywhere I go! Now I don't need to take my physical book with me as I walk! Before, the Kindle edition was not really this book but similar to it called the Handbook of Prayer, but it was not the same. This one seems much better organized and only 1.99!
This book is an excellent book, giving Scriptures to inspire your prayer life. Each day (this is designed for three months of readings) is divided up into 8 parts: adoration, confession, renewal, petition, intercession, affirmation, thanksgiving, and closing prayer.
There also is a book two, but I feel this one is stronger if the focus is on worship; book two seems more aimed at meditation and discipleship - the 3 months of readings consist of five divisions: The Attributes of God, the Works of God, My Relationship to God, The Character I Want to Cultivate, and My Relationship to Others.
I have been reading through this book (Book 1) every day. I recommend both, but the first one is the one making a bigger impact.
I am currently reading another similar volume Praying the Scriptures for Personal Growth, by Kenneth Boa. I must say, I found this one much more impactful and beneficial than the one I am currently reading. It is a wonderful way to incorporate scripture into your daily prayer routine or help you to structure your time. It is not just for reading but for self examination, petition, and worship. I do wish the scriptures were included in direct quotions rather than adaptations, but overall it did not detract from the value of the work.
I absolutely love this book for my daily prayer time. It keeps me structured and focused. At the same time, it allows for flexibility to cover everything I need/want. And I can apply scripture as well! I use this every day. It truly changed my prayer life. I needed something to keep my mind focused and to help me know what scriptures apply. This book does that and more. In addition, the prayers are mine. I am not reiterating what the author wants me to say. This book is a guide to prayer. So the prayer is completely and totally between you and God. I am so glad I came across this book.
This is a book that I return to over and over. If you are interested in praying the scriptures this is for you.
An interesting thing about the book is that the author has selected and arranged the scriptures to work like a devotional. Each day there is a group of verses to guide you through prayers for Adoration, confession, renewal, petition, intercession, affirmation, thanksgiving, and closing prayer.
The author has a number of equally good books which work using a similar formula.
My friends Paul and Janice in Italy sent me this book a couple of months ago, and I've been incorporating it more and more often into my morning devotional time. I've heard many times of the concept of "praying the Scriptures," but I've never really succeeded in doing it. This book is bringing me farther in that direction. Boa uses so much Scripture, so well, that each day -- three months' worth of days (probably five months for me) -- is different from the day before.
This is a 3-month devotional book of scripture prayers. Each day has scriptures in the following sections: Adoration Confession Renewal Petition Intercession Affirmation Thanksgiving and a Closing Prayer
At the end of each section, it encourages you to add your own thoughts and words.
It is a really neat way to go to God and sit at His feet.
There are two other Face to Face books, but this one is my favorite.
A great book that helped me become more consistent in my prayer life. There are 31 days per month with 3 months worth of prayer guidelines. There is also a prayer request section in the back, which I find really useful in recording how God is working in my life. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone trying to have a better and more intimate prayer time.
