Brian Azzarello (born in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American comic book writer. He came to prominence with 100 Bullets, published by DC Comics' mature-audience imprint Vertigo. Azzarello has written for Batman ("Broken City", art by Risso; "Batman/Deathblow: After the Fire", art by Lee Bermejo, Tim Bradstreet, & Mick Gray) and Superman ("For Tomorrow", art by Jim Lee).

Following Quar’s ultimatum to bring him the Batman, Gotham’s tearing itself apart to find him or else the Kandorians kill them all. But the heroes are rallying as Carrie, aided by Aquaman, sets out to free Superman from his black matter prison, Wonder Woman is having second thoughts about isolationism, and the Dark Knight’s plan begins to unfold…
There’s a LOT of silly contrivances from Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello that you just have to swallow to enjoy this ish. Carrie has a magic tuning fork (where did Bruce get it again??) that saves Superman, the Flash is laid up with broken legs but is using an ultra-high-speed computer to co-ordinate weather drones (that was handy - I guess Bruce built one for just such an occasion?), and Batman has synthesised kryptonite and can suddenly control the weather. O...k!
It’s fun though and that makes it alright. We finally see what Batman had in store for the legions of flying Kandorians and it’s pretty cool, levelling the playing field for the heroes. The Bat-Tank rolls out once more demolishing shit in its wake, the prospect of Wonder Woman joining the fray is tantalising, and that final page is awesome. Add Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson’s fine art and the series looks to have found its legs at last with this issue!
The backup is as disappointing as the majority have been. This one follows Lara and her romance with Kandorian Baal as they fly about flirting - what a pointless story. It’s drawn in Frank Miller’s horrid modern-day scratchy style too that not even Alex Sinclair’s brilliant colours can save it. I’d much rather jettison these backups and the extras for longer issues of the main story but I guess DC’s gotta make its money teasing this out as much as possible.
Besides the crummy backup, Master Race #5 sees Miller/Azzarello prepare the stage for the final battle between the soon-to-be-reformed Justice League and the Kandorians, and it’s entertaining stuff. It’s basically table-setting but seeing the buildup is exciting. Looking forward to the next issue!
Gotham is being blackmailed by the folks from Krypton to deliver their champion, their Dark Knight into their hands. The riots tear the city apart will Wayne finally show his face, Superman has fallen, the Flash has been hurt, will the Kryptonians rule the world after they have taken the Dark Knight out of the equation?
There will be a facedown between Batman and these off-world foes, and they were right to fear him.
The last two episodes in this series have being heating up this series with some iconic moments that Leaves Zack Snyders movie grasping for air. This so far has been the long overdue sequel to the original Dark Knight and it has been delivering plenty.
Good things come to those who patiently wait. No I wasn't patient but I kept my faith and continued reading The Master Race. And after that heavily disappointing book four, frowns are starting to become satisfying grins as Batman commences this very rad plan on defeating the Kandorians.
Book number five definitely has the "wait until you see this shit" vibe that however bad the material was before, DKIII will rise up and redeem itself. This chapter is Batman's way of saying "it's our turn now" and man, Batman really has this crazy plan.
I'm definitely excited with the series now, and this is something that I have never felt in the prevoius four books. Good job.
The last 2 issues are the best of the series so far and that is saying a lot. Batman and Superman together fighting all those super powered aliens. And the last page/panel: priceless: "I got your back". Issue #6 will be even more awesome. I am already planning on picking up the hardback collection of this series. Count me in!

At the same time Miller, Azzarelo and Kubert really bring in an extra story that really builds on the character of Lara and develops her character further! :D Dark Knight III: The Master Race #5 is full of Cape Swinging action from the start that leaps off the page! :D
Miller, Azzarelo and Kubert produce a book that has it's own style! :D Dark Knight III: The Master Race #5 full of Cape Swinging action and Bat tricks from the start! :D At the same time it is full of dramatics, different ideas, clever landscaping, character development, heroics, is world building, adventure and is action packed throughout! :D Crisp High Five! :D Go and get! :D Make sure you have the next one! :D
Good read. Once again Miller and Team shows what is special about the Batman. His will, commitment and vision make him one of a kind in the Superhero realm.
After a rather slow start, but with an interesting and exciting set up, TDKIII finally picks up the pace in this issue. This is where the action really gets going and we see Frank Miller's Batman getting up to no good again. I enjoyed every letter of this issue!
