Lucas Brothers #1

The Perfect Stroke

Rate this book
It was one night. He wasn’t supposed to rock my world.

CC
Gray Lucas is everything I hate in a man.
Cocky, rich, entitled and a player.
He’s a pro athlete and his exploits are legendary—one of which was me.
We had a one-night-stand.
It was wild, passionate, exhilarating and a big mistake.
Except maybe it wasn’t.
Because the more time I spend with him and his crazy family, the more I want him to stay…
But men don’t stay…do they?

Gray
The moment I saw Claudia Cooper again, other women ceased to exist for me.
She’s smart-mouthed, tough-as-nails, and gorgeous. She’s perfect.
I’m the man for her, the only man for her. She just doesn’t know it yet.
I have a reputation for playing hard, fast and dirty.
Love ‘em and Leave ‘em.
What CC doesn’t know yet,
Is that I'm not playing. I’m claiming her.

Take a man who always gets what he wants,
A woman who has learned not to want,
A crazy mother and insane siblings…
And oh yeah add in a skunk just to make things interesting—
And you just might have The Perfect Stroke.

I'm just a simple small town country girl, haunted by Alpha Men who talk in my head 24 hours a day.

I knew I wanted to write when it became clear I couldn't be happy with just viewing other people's stories. I always wanted to rewrite them.

Like why did Jack have to die? Why couldn't Rose move her butt over? Because that was a huge piece of wood she was on, people.

Happy Endings should be fought for, but they should always happen. Mine might take some curves and twists, but they eventually get there.

Having published over fifty stories, it always feels surreal that this is my life. Hitting USA Today had me crying for days, but nothing is more special than hearing from readers that they loved one of my books.

Meet CC

description

Well, I mean, if I was gonna have a one-night stand with a pro athlete, I'd much rather it was football or basketball... Something. I mean, at least then I could brag a little. I can't here."

I liked CC fine. She's a smart ass but not ditzy... a little unusual but very relatable.... pragmatic but not a prude.

She's consistent throughout.

She delivers some good banter lines.

She just doesn't have any big moments to love nor hate her.

description

Meet Grayson

description

Grayson is okay. Nothing particularly special about his character profile. Authors seem to think that readers automatically swoon with no effort or development if they write a dude as 1) rich 2) athletic 3) big tool 4) history of manwhore with women throwing themselves at him. Not true.

Gray's character development is pretty nonexistent past those talking points for a good 30+ chapters.

Once his family is introduced, he comes out of his shell. But, well, then his kooky family steals the show.

description

Anyway...

Readers looking for a formula alpha male will love him.

[image error] alt="description"/>

He is 100% all about the FMC & goes all stereotypical dominant, alpha male over the one . Sweet, dirty, patient, Tarzan ... You know the drill.

He's just a little too much...

description

"My Dick is the last dick that pussy is ever going to squeeze the baby juice out of."

Another woman does kiss him and try to cause drama, but it's clear he's all about CC.

Bottom line...

description

Plot

description

^ Yes? Then, you'll like the book.

Golf pro, Gray, and garage owner/mechanic, CC, have a one-nighter. Happenstance brings them back together a few days later. The tides have turned and he's the smitten manwhore now chasing the hesitant chick afraid of commitment.

There's not a lot of plot here beyond that chase. There's a tiny subplot that puts his family in the fray, which is actually the most entertaining portion of the book. There's a tiny subplot about her garage and parents, which is anything but suspenseful.

Plot Problems

1. Where's The Meat?

description

There are never any climatic moments. The closest to a climatic moment the book has comes from Gray's mom.

The sprinkling of drama is childish and uninteresting to me... such as turning sprinklers on the OW and having that later used as blackmail worth $250,000. *eyeroll*

2. Doesn't Deliver Laughs...

description

There are a few chuckle dialogue moments; a few cutsie moments; and a couple of LOL moments, such as the kid pissing on the floor, but I would not call this book 'funny,' much less dub it a "romantic comedy."

3. Fluff Galore...

description

Chapter 19 is an entire chapter devoted to FMC re-telling chapters 1-18 to her BFF and mulling his dick size.

Chapter 30 is an entire chapter devoted to retelling the BFF all that's happened in chapters 20-29.

Until the epilogue, these are the only two chapters said BFF is even in.

Pure regurgitated fluff.

4. Repetition....

description

"If there's one thing about CC that I love the most, it's that she's not shy."

"... another thing that's all CC: she's not shy."

"Magic tongue" said five times and a number of additional times as similar wording.

"Sex tape" from his past and that had nothing to do with the plot was brought up countless times.

The taste of her, her mouth, and/or her vagina.... 64 f'ing times.

During their first on-page sex scene, I can't tell you how many times he mentioned her scent, but I will tell you it was often enough as to have me imagining it in a bad way.

5. Rinse & Repeat Sex

description

"Do you think we might be having too much sex?"

Allow me to answer with a resounding yes. I'm all about the nookie, but these are the same sex scenes on repeat every few pages. An oddball sex scene setting is thrown in every now and then, but the actual action here could basically be copy and paste.

6. Nonsense...

description

If someone goes through great pains to hide something, then why would they then use that very something going public as blackmail to achieve something hardly worthwhile? ~ They wouldn't.

Bottom Line

A very simple, flat story with a formula alpha male reformed manwhore and a smart mouthed woman afraid of commitment.

This reads like a newbie author, not someone with 33 titles under their belt.

It has a few grammatical errors, dropped words, spacing misses, and typos. It's nothing horribly distracting, but most certainly needs a good sweep. Ex: "sex tape" was used multiple times, one of which was hyphenated as "sex-tape."

It ends at just over 50%, making it somewhere around 230 pages. Between the two chapters of retell, the excessive sex scenes, and the repetition alone... There's very little actual book here.

I didn't read the attached book that continues this as a standalone series.

Overall Opinion: This was way better than I thought it'd be! I really enjoyed their banter and the H's crazy family. It was hot too! The sponsor drama was a little stupid at times, but it didn't tick me off. The H took me a little bit to warm up to because his inner dialogue was cocky at first and he even addresses his manwhore past, but he gets WAY better quickly. Please don't let that turn you off and stop reading...he really does turn into a great H that is all about the h! Was it deep and meaningful? No, but it was good for what it was -- a light, sexy, funny, sports romance that has me wanting more from this crazy Lucas family! I'm looking forward to the next in the series :)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is CC and Gray's story. CC and Gray meet in a bar and end up having a hot weekend together before CC leaves Gray alone in the hotel. A few days later, Gray breaks down on the side of the road and finds a close-by garage that happens to be owned by CC. There is some dancing around, but eventually they start up a relationship and fall in love. There are some crazy family (in both good and bad ways) scenes, some issues with Gray's profession, a good bit of steamy sex, some lol moments...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between CC and Gray's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well. Just FYI -- it ended at 53% on my kindle (which I typically hate, but I was prepared for it with this one), as it includes another story.

Instalove: Maybe. They move fast in that I don't think this story covers that much time, but it was believable to me.

H rating: 4.5 stars. Gray. I liked him. He was hot, possessive, and all about the h. He even said that no other woman existed for him after the h, and I thought he showed it! My only complaint is that he was cocky when she first met him, but he changed pretty quickly.

h rating: 3.5 stars. CC. I liked her until she kept a secret from the H. I wanted her to trust him more.

Sadness level: Low. No tissues required.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate/high. There is hot chemistry and scenes, and there are a good bit. I thought it was on the high side in the amount of scenes, but I never felt like it took away from the storyline.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes. They use condoms, and have a std status and birth control talk. I don't remember any mention of past practices.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had pretty good closure with a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: I'd say that this is probably Safe for most readers.

3.5 This one was pretty fun!

Ok, so it's nothing to tell the children about, but it was pretty decent.
I quit expecting amazing stuff from romances, so a good one is kind of it for me.

The characters were damn great and they had that chemistry I'm looking for in books like these. And the female character was absolutely great! Even the plot was pretty ok, and that's even harder to find, so yay!

Why not more than 3.5? Well, as I've said before, I didn't really "feel" too much (but that is probably my fault, I'm a bit of a book funk, so this book is probably worth more).

I have no idea why there are so few people who've read it, but it's definitely worth trying!

Genre: CR
Sensuality: R, I guess

Manho golf star meets female mechanic.

The writing style did not grab me. It's hard to pinpoint why. I can certainly see others really liking it (well, except for this line - "My dick is the last dick that pussy is ever going to squeeze the baby juice out of.” - Um, okayyyyyyyy.) Basically, I thought the author gave a valiant try but it lacked finesse and verve for me.

5 Colourful Crayon Boy Stars

Jordan Marie is an author who has written MC books that I've enjoyed so when I saw she had written a RomCom type novel I thought I would give it a whirl. The cover was hot and the synopsis was intriguing so I was in. The only thing that was holding me back was that this hero played golf. Huh. Well, frankly, I'm with CC on this....nothing about golf is sexy or interesting. I have never read a book with a golfing hero and can honestly say, prior to this I've never wanted to. Then I met Grayson Lucas and let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, this reader has a WHOLE new appreciation for nine irons, holes in one ,perfect strokes and ABSOLUTELY CRAZY families.

CC is our heroine -aka Claude, Claudia, Sweet Lips...I could go on. I would imagine that the heroine of a book is one of the trickiest characters to write. If she is sweet she can be a doormat. If she is tough and resilient she is a bitch. If she embraces her sexuality she's a slut. It's quite the literary minefield to get the heroine to strike a balance that makes her appealing to the reader. I'm just going to say that CC is perfect. I would pick her for a friend. I wanted to hug her, cheer her on, slap nasty people upside the head on her behalf . I laughed out loud when she dealt with Cammie , the patronising, snidey bitch from Hell. I cried for her too. CC is endearing and loveable with just the right mix of vulnerability and strength.

Grayson Lucas just strolled right on in to my Hero Hall of Fame book shelf. I adored him.. He is arrogant at first but watching him fall hard for CC was tantalizing. He is funny, loyal and so beautifully written. Both him and CC have a gorgeous mischievous streak.

I have to mention the Lucas family. Perfect! I am itching to read more of the Lucas family. Along with the Shipley family in Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen, I am experiencing some major literary family envy this Summer! All those crazy family dynamics appeal to me enormously.

Dual POV with one of THE best epilogue(s) I've read. No cheating. Laugh out loud funny moments and sexy stuff that makes you blush. And I'm not just talking about our H/h. Oh no.
Absolutely a top 2016 read for me.
*** Perfect Stroke finishes at 53% on Kindle but there is another novel after. It's not a short read despite this.

You have to love Gray, the man gets all caveman at times, “everyone out!” Gray yells. No one leaves. “You either leave or you’ll see me effing my woman on the kitchen table.” I loved this book, Jordan may be known for her MC books but I think she'll do great in Rom-coms because the Lucas family was so entertaining, and just awkward at times that you hope all the siblings get a book of their own. I'm so glad Jordan decided to step out of her comfort zone and try something new, she nailed it!

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

When I started this book, I wasn't sure the hero, Grayson, was going to be someone I could like. He was arrogant and sure of himself. He approached the heroine Claudia at a bar and initially she shot him down. This intrigued him since he was the bad boy of the golfing world and most women fell at his feet. She finally caved and they had a weekend fling. Claudia snuck out of the hotel on Sunday morning. They couldn't stop thinking about each other so imagine their surprise when Grayson's car breaks down en route to a business meeting, bringing them face to face.

Claudia was basically alone in life. Her mom abandoned her as a child with her boyfriend who ended up being the only parental figure in her life. She was strong and independant and didn't trust easily. That made Grayson have his work cut out for him.

This was definitely not insta love. Grayson and Claudia felt the strong sexual attraction, but the fact that they were falling for each other took them a little longer to face. I did end up coming around as far as Grayson was concerned. He turned into a one woman man and was devoted to Claudia. His initial mention of the amount of women he had been with was childish. He was in trouble because of his reputation and a sex tape that had been leaked and was on his way to meet with new sponsors (when he ran into heroine ), who happened to be the heroine's enemies. There was one scene that the daughter of the man he needed to sponsor him kissed him. He was trying to keep the peace because his career was in the brink of ruin. That woman is the only ow drama in the book. She is continually trying to get the hero but he isn't interested. Once Grayson meets Claudia, he is not with any other women. There is some pushing away. There was an epilogue but it wasn't very far into the future. Definitely needed more. This is the first in the series so there may be more about them in subsequent books.

**There was a sneak peak into the next book about his brother White. He is anti relationships/anti marriage. He has a best friend named Kayla who is in love with him but is afraid to tell him for fear of losing his friendship. In the sneak peak she tells White that she decided to get married because she is lonely and wants to start a family. She gave up on anything with White when she found out he slept with her sister (can this get any more gross?) So basically the sneak peak ends with her hanging up the phone and him trying to talk to her. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that White is not a hero that I can get behind. I would have to know more info before I would delve into that hot mess!

I read the second book in this series first, Raging Heart On, and quite enjoyed it. This one thought...it just wasn't as good. My hang up was with Gray. His past exploits were a little much for me as they were constantly repeated through 3/4 of the book. He just didn't come across as that sweet hero that I was looking for.
The heroine however was great and saves the book for me.

Favorite Exerpt:
"I look into his eyes, finding them so deep and intense. Am I? Why am I so nervous? I’ve withstood bigger storms in my life than Gray Lucas, right? If this all blows up, then it will be my shame alone and I’ll just go on. If it doesn’t, then could what started off as a one -night stand become something… more?"

Review:

Jordan Marie has been one of my favorites since I devoured the Devil's Blaze MC Series that concluded this spring. Knock me over with a feather that her next venture was not another explosively suspenseful, gritty, insanely sexy MC series that she has always delivered in the past. This gem is a romantic comedy of epic proportions that is a literal goldmine with the cast of characters she introduces in The Perfect Stroke.
Jordan Marie is amazing at crafting the cocky player in Gray, while completely hitting the mark with fiery CC. The whirlwind hits them both unaware, and these scenes are incredible between these two!
I am completely in love with the introduction of Gray's super huge, crazy, hysterical family that I can't wait to read more about! She has given us a finely crafted, multi-layered surprise that left me with the feels, throwing my kindle at antagonistic characters, giggling hysterically around each corner, and wanting more, more, more! A perfect summer read!

"The Perfect Stroke" is the story of CC and Gray.

A fun read!

The hero is a golf superstar cum playboy recovering from a scandal when he meets a beautiful woman. They have a wild weekend, and go their separate ways. That is until, his car breaks down, and he realizes the badass woman repairing his car is his one time lover!
They come from different worlds. While hers is grease and hard work, his is money and sports. Despite her inhibitions, he is persistent, and they embark on a relationship. The fun element is definitely added by his insane family, and the drama by a catty OW/ evil OM.

I was hooked, and even though the main couple's chemistry was average, the overall plot was enjoyable.

So I've totally found a new author to stalk.... This was so freaking hilarious and sexy! I seriously couldn't put it down! From the first page to the last I was completely immersed in this story! I never thought a golf player could be hot, but Jordan Marie changed that in an instant! The chemistry between the h/h was off the charts. I seriously loved everything about it! I can't wait for more in this series!

I really enjoyed The Perfect Stroke! I’ve been hitting Kindle Unlimited pretty hard lately – I really want to get more out of it than endless Alexa Riley books (I think I’ve decided that AR is like Pokémon – “gotta read them all” LOL).

Most of the stuff I’ve been pulling out of KU has been…slush pile quality at best. But The Perfect Stroke gave me exactly what I expected to get: a Romantic Comedy. YES! I seriously enjoyed The Perfect Stroke – had no interest in putting it down and I finished in pretty much in one bite.

I have to admit that I LOVED the heroine, CC, while I was just digging the hero, Grey. CC – Claudia/Claude for short – is amazing. She’s self-aware without any of the crap self-esteem issues you get so often in Romance. I love that CC is a mechanic and I LOVED her response(s) to Grey and his being a Golf-Pro:
[Gray] “I play golf,” I tell her, nervously waiting to see what her reaction will be.
[CC] “Golf?”
“Yeah,” I say, wincing at her disbelief.
“Like… weird-hats-crazy-pants-ugly-shirts golf?”
“I don’t wear clothes like that, but yeah.”
“But you don’t look like you’re eighty!”
“What? I’m not. What are you—?”
“Oh my God! I had sex with a grandpa! How old are you? I mean, I knew you were older, but Jesus!”
“I am not old! What are you going on about? I’m thirty-five, for God’s sake. You know, not only old men play golf.”
“I know.”
“Well, there you go.”
“I’ve been miniature-golfing before. Little kids eat that up, but seriously, dude. We’re talking regular golf here, right? Where you hit those little balls with sticks and try to knock them in a hole?”
“It’s a little more complicated than that. And there was once a twelve-year-old who played in a tournament, I’ll have you know.”
“Golf,” she says again reproachfully.
“What is your problem now?”
“Well, I mean, if I was gonna have a one-night stand with a pro athlete, I’d much rather it was football or basketball... something. I mean, at least then I could brag a little. I can’t here.”
“Why the fuck can’t you?” I ask her, getting annoying and forgetting the fact that I don’t really want a woman to fuck me just so she can brag.
“The first thing they would ask me is if you smelled like muscle rub!”
“What? Jesus!”
“I mean, I never noticed you smelling like the stuff but now that I think about it, you did have to-"

I did love Grey’s family and the slapdown that Grey’s mom gives – Screw it. I loved Ida Sue something awful. She’s rating up there with some of the best book moms around. ;-) BUT I did not enjoy the side story with the Rivertons/Cammie. In fact, while I HUGELY appreciated that The Perfect Stroke had the most inoffensive - not-love triangle, ever – the whole situation with Cammie Riverton and her father was just…a bit much. While I can sorta see it happening...they were more cartoony than the entire rest of the book. Although that smack down by Ida Sue was something pretty to behold. I love a good smack down. Somebody should have sprinkled her hands with baby powder first, lol.

The writing is pretty solid although some editing is needed. I do recommend this one! And I will read the rest of the books in the series (when they are released).

Oh my word she has done it again!! Jordan Marie is an automatic one click author for me, I just love her work. Up until now she has only written MC which had always been exceptional so I was pleasantly surprised and very happy to see a romcom from her. I just knew it would be awesome and couldn't wait to dig in!
Gray and CC could not be more different, he is a pro golfer at the top of his game and she is a mechanic living in a small town. But when they meet sparks fly and hijinks ensue!
The Perfect Stroke is funny, sexy, sweet and in perfect Jordan Marie style HOT, HOT, HOT! I loved the banter between these two and that CC was a strong female character who wasn't afraid to give back as much as she got. And who knew a golfer could be sexy, not me! But Gray makes me want to take up golf!
I didn't want this story to end, the characters are so funny and engaging you just want to keep reading. I can't wait to read more about the crayon brothers! This series is one you want to read!
Another 5 star read from this very talented author!!

A 35 year old annoying asshat who acts like he's 25. His personality was off putting.

CC was great. Funny. A punch. Straightforward and crude. Didn't let anyone swing her about. A little vulnerable.

The Perfect Stroke is something brand new from Jordan Marie and she has proven she can turn her writing talent in any direction.

The Perfect Stroke is a funny, romantic sexy hot read with some twists that will leave you gripped throughout.

CC ~ I am girl crushing on CC hard she is a down to earth sassy, sexy smart mouthed girl who I want to be me BFF !!!

Gray ~ A sexy hot man who has every kind of woman falling at his feet, he knows he is sexy hot and is bank balance is also a bonus to some, he loves his golf and playing around with anyone he wants regardless of any backlash.

Until the backlash of his man-whores way puts him a position where he has to play in a 'bum' town in the middle of nowhere to earn his place and sponsorship, he meets CC one night and then he runs into her again, CC a girl he has to chase and chase hard.

The Perfect Stroke ~ Highly recommended read for those who enjoy an hilarious read with a feel good factor !!!

Colour me surprised that I liked a book about a golfer.. I mean seriously.. Who would've guessed that someone who plays golf can be sexy..

"What do you do then?"...
"I play golf"
"Golf?"
"Yeah"
"Like... Weird-hats-crazy-pants-ugly-shirts golf?"
"I don't wear clothes like that, but yeah."
"But you don't look like you're eighty!!"

LOL. My thoughts exactly.

I thought this was a long book, because I was at 44% or something thinking what else is going to happen?? Is there more sex scenes? Really? but the actual book finished in the 52% mark because there's an excerpt or a bonus book at the end (I haven't read it), so rest assured that it doesn't drag.

I am a little disappointed that no more was mentioned of the Riverton family that was the "baddies" of this tale. Would've liked to know what became of them after the last confrontation.

I think the overall story was pretty good and the characters were interesting, but really the amount of sex overwhelmed it. I think the relationship between the H & h needed more development. And honestly? It wasn't that funny... Sorry. Oh, and the H was a big jackass in the beginning and didn't need to be.

I enjoyed and recommend. The story is quite predictable but ends up holding the reader's attention. Like the author and I will accompany the series.

I would have enjoyed it more without all the mean people drama. :-(

This was a cute story... one night stand accidentally turns into much more, as much as both parties resist it. CC moreso than Gray. Gray really pursued CC once he knew where she was. Sadly, he had to court a rich guy for a sponsorship who had a daughter who had a very keen interest in Gray... this same family having caused CC many problems when she was younger. And when Cammie doesn't get what she wants, her father puts heat on Gray, which Gray does his damndest to deflect over and over again. I loved that Gray's family welcomed CC with open arms (while shunning Cammie and her dad). I loved that when CC needed help, they were more than willing to step in. I didn't like that Lily's name changed to Ida Sue at some point. (?) But it was an entertaining story with a happy ending. And I'm interested enough in the rest of Gray's family to want to seek out more in the series. Eventually.

Oh, another weird thing about this book (besides the mom's name changing)... it ended about halfway through. I mean, it was a complete story and not short, and when it seemed to be winding down and I looked down to see about 50%, I was wondering where else it could possibly go, and then I was reading epilogues. Apparently, the other half of the book is a story the author wrote under a different pen name. I didn't read that one.

I'm learning that the prolifically advertised books are not always the gems they claim to be. Although this book wasn't bad, it had some trite cliches and some unforgivable grammatical mistakes that dragged the rating down.

I liked the hero and heroine just fine, but there was nothing really memorable about either of them. Wait, I take that back. A thirty-five-year-old man should act more maturely.

Those cliches I mentioned? They are trends I find annoying, so don't put much stock in them. I hate a male lead repeatedly announcing that the heroine is "my woman." It's a turn off to me. I also hate grown women acting like over-the-top mean-girl teenagers like CC's rival did in this book.

I did like that the book was about a sport that isn't showcased in romance novels. (However, if an author chooses a topic like golf, she should research when the tournaments are played.) I also loved Gray's family, who provided the comic relief.

Like I said, it was a cute book with a decent story that I'm not sorry I read, but it wasn't earth-shatteringly spectacular.

Awesome!

I can't tell you how much I love Jordan's books. She knows how to give you everything you could possibly want in a story and so much more. Your not going to find a quick and clean fluff piece from her but you will get a fantastic story with humorous, sexy, and real characters, emotions that will bring you to your knees, and dirty, hot scenes that will give you ideas about what to do while you're down there!
For instance, in this book you can't help but connect with the characters and storyline. You'll find yourself laughing (even while rolling your eyes at some of the corny lines) and wishing you knew someone like that (or in my case saying 'I know someone like that'). Your emotions will be all over the place and you won't be able to put the book down.
Gray is such a hot and sexy player who makes lots of mistakes but you can't help but love him. Claudia is awesome. She's strong, sexy, smart, and so comfortable in herself. The friends and family in this story are amazing and help make the book. I can't wait to read their stories!
