Around the World Right Now

In this multicultural travelogue through each of the 24 time zones, young readers are invited to travel the world and experience all the people, places, and things that exist on our planet right now. In every minute of every hour of every day, something wonderful is happening around our world. In Santa Fe, New Mexico, an artist sits behind his easel working on a painting. While at the same time in Greenland, an Inuit boy begins training his first pack of sled dogs. While in Madagascar, a playful lemur is trying to steal treats from a family's picnic, just as a baby humpback whale is born deep in the Pacific Ocean. A perfect read-aloud to help introduce geography and time-telling as well as a celebration of the richness and diversity of life on our planet.

A fun way to concretely explain the concept that it is a different time, Right Now, depending on where you are in the world. I enjoyed seeing what location would be introduced next and was waiting for the moment when that was no landmass - I loved the solution! The illustrations are beautiful with clever details.

Tour through a city in each of the 24 time zones of the world starting with 6am in San Francisco and going East to see what kinds of things would be happening at the same time around the world.

There's another book called At the Same Moment, Around the World that is the exact same concept. It takes you around the world visiting cities in each time zone. I was hoping that this new book would cover the time zones concept in a little different way, but it didn't. It is attractive and visits well-recognized places but ultimately this has been done before and done very similarly so I'm kinda disappointed. I think At the Same Moment, Around the World actually illustrates the concept a little better and has a broader range of locations, so I'd recommend that one over this one.

Beginning at 6:00 a.m. in San Francisco, this book travels around the world, one time zone at a time. The idea is to demonstrate to students that interesting things are happening all over the world at this very moment.

This is a tough task as students, in my experience, do not have the breadth of knowledge to internalize this concept. Nevertheless, it is an interesting read. I did my best to teach the skill. They get it to a point.

Then there was the comment from a student who asked, "How can children in China be asleep if it is school time?"

I thought the book was well presented. I recall A Day in the Life of America being somewhat similar.

Dudes! Santa Fe is in this book! I'm way more excited then I probably should be!

Anyway, this book is a cool look at time and how it differs around the world. It helps the reader to understand that while it is morning in one place, it is evening in another. It also shows different people and places from across the globe. And it has Santa Fe. On like the fourth page. I'm excited.

A nice trip around the world with a stop in each time zone. The clock ticks around 24 hours, returning to the beginning, and I'm so glad it did, or the main point of the book may have been lost. A very nice afterward about traveling the world also includes a sundial project.

Beautiful and fun way to explain time. Also my four year old loved to feel as if she was traveling from place to place.

Three and a half. A lot of the middle-of-the-day times seemed to be more about the where than the when. Still interesting to learn about the places, it just seemed less focused.

An excellent book to show how the world is divided into time zones, taking a single moment in time and zooming all over the globe to show it is all 24 hours of the day at once, depending on where you are. It also shows how diverse the globe is in turns of people, customs, cultures, environments, etc., yet we are still all relatable people, going about our day. Only note I have is I wish there had been a picture insert of the globe on each page to show exactly where the reader was for each hour.
