Well, if potential readers are hoping or looking for "true" Yuletide tales of the paranormal, since Jo-Anne Christensen is actually mostly considered to be a collector and reteller of the latter (and if said readers also want stories that are creepy and filled with ample violence and gory horror), no, no, no, Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories (2002) will probably not be all that much if at all to their personal reading tastes (and that in fact, only two of the accounts penned by Christensen for Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories specifically deal with something violent, and indeed, even then not emanating from anything paranormal either, since in The Christmas Card, main protagonist Millie's sister Laura has been murdered by her husband and in Coco's Christmas Present, Yorkshire Terrier Coco was killed by ruthless burglars and that in both cases, their spirits are then helpful, caringly benign and with Coco very protective, and that in Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories, Jo-Anne Christensen in fact features no malevolent spirits and evil hauntings whatsoever, that even potential textual violence is not ever overly exaggerated or in any manner morbid or gratuitous).

But yes indeed, if gently descriptive and generally nicely, majorly heart-warming Christmas themed stories with mild hauntings and ghosts who are generally sweetly tempered, offering solace, aid, comfort, understanding and are thus of course also not ever meaning harm are something that you might enjoy encountering, well and in my humble opinion, Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories is definitely a collection of short Yuletide themed tales to consider, with fourteen original short fiction accounts and divided into three sections labelled Friends, Families and Spirits of the Season (and with a textual style and a sense of and for winter as well as Christmas that personally speaking quite strongly and delightfully reminds me of Lucy Maud Montgomery's short fiction and that this coming from me is high praise indeed for what Christensen has penned and is presenting in Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories considering how much I totally adore Montgomery's oeuvre and especially her short stories). And while there are no stories in Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories that I have actually disliked (although some of the tales in the last part, in Spirits of the Season can be a bit disjointed and choppy), my three favourite tales of Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories are most definitely Spanner's Gift, The Portrait and Betty's Butter Tarts (a tale of help from beyond the grave for someone stranded during a blizzard, a story of a browbeaten by his nagging girlfriend artist having a ghost show him to be self confident and a wonderfully magical tale of love and a butter tart recipe ) and that while I have in fact liked reading all of Jo-Anne Christensen's featured Yuletide ghost accounts, it is indeed Spanner's Gift, The Portrait and Betty's Butter Tarts that move Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories to a solidly five star rating from me (and that although not specifically written for children, all of Christensen's stories would also work quite nicely for younger readers and that Haunted Christmas: Ghost Stories is thus and in my humble opinion suitable for ages ten and upwards).

The ghost stories were divided into different categories (family, etc), and I enjoyed the first few stories. There was a couple that didn't make sense at all, and one that didn't have anything sort of haunting related. Overall many of the stories were worth the read but a few didn't seem to fit in the book.
