Red City Review of Knight in Shining Alien? by Ginger Branch Hailey is your average single girl. With more than a few relationship battle scars her attitude toward the opposite sex is less than genial. After being treated horribly and having a breakdown she has retreated from the dating scene and resolved never to fall in love again. However, one morning her life changes forever. Thrust rudely and unexpectedly into a completely different world she struggles to find her bearings. With no one in sight to come to the rescue she attempts to free herself until a fine specimen of an alien is placed in a nearby cell. Suddenly she finds herself drawn to an otherworldly creature wholly unlike any man she ever encountered on Earth. Will Jarrek free his would be beloved and tame her wild nature or will the Krakill, sworn enemy of Jarrek's people, concur the galaxy and wipe the face of the Earth in the process? Only the Goddess of Life can determine the ever intertwining fates of Hailey and Jarrek the future King of Athria. An entertaining read, Knight in Shining Alien pulls together a myriad of things that make a book worth reading. While the characters could have had more depth, they were believable and warranted your attention. Our heroine shows character growth throughout the story which is a wonderful way to move the action along, which there is plenty of in this book. From start to finish the author takes you on a wild ride through the far reaches of space featuring alien battles and ritualistic torture, things that have long captured the imagination of the human race. Along the way Branch humanizes the whole experience by lining the story with two things we all can identify with, lust and love. Hailey - She has been put down by men all her life for her round and beautiful curves until she is ready to just give it up. She works at a solitary job and has a few good friends. Who needs more than that? Okay, maybe some good, sweaty sex wouldn't be too bad. Suddenly her life takes a weird turn. An average day of going to work finds her kidnapped and in a cage on an alien ship and no clue, how she got there. She knows there are no Knights in Shining Armor to ride to the rescue and so works on getting herself free, until a delicious, giant, red alien God is brought into captivity with her. Jarrek - He wants to exterminate all Krakill. That is all that he has dedicated the last thousand years of his life to. While he prays to the Goddess of All Life for a species to help keep them alive, he has resigned himself to never finding his Cordisa until he joins the Goddess in death. He finds himself a captive in enemy hands, but that is not all that he has found. A living, breathing Goddess. The Goddess of All Life has heard his prayers and has guided the future King of Athria to his destiny...if he can win her heart and convince her that he is her Knight in Shining Alien.

3.5 stars. Sweet yet jerk hero you want to slap then cuddle. Fated Mates. Mars Needs Women trope. BBW kidnapped by evil aliens, then rescued/kept by 'good' aliens. No women, so some of the good aliens are m/m.
Looks like an interesting series to keep an eye on.
HFN has her mother & best friend brought to her on the ship. Best friend will be the heroine in the next book. Recommended.
DNF at a 150 pages... Which I usually would endure if I saw anything worth going on for. I just could not continue. To much WTF moments. Maybe I'm too picky... But I've usually submurged in a book for fun before, ignoring tiny bothersome things. I can live without a plot... I can manage with 2d characters... I can even endure if the book is worth it, a puny heroin. Actually heroine other than a little anoying, is resourceful and inteligent. Save that detail, everything falls to pieces with the rest of it. The things that made me stop reading: Lack of structure and coherence in the dialogues. Weak tools to explain things like language barrier, character actions and thoughts. Absolute nonsense and no character depth. Like extreme 2d. Pace too fast to understand story developments and events... It prances from one event to another badly. It needed serious polishing. It was boring and had no mystery or interesting engaging factors. Insta love... Insta sex... Insta everything! So that was enough to make me stop. Not even the writting style was appealing enough to withstand the pain. Not happy and I do not recommend this sample at least. I bid you farewell and may your next reads be fab!
It is was a good story but some subjects are so overlooked that it bordered on being a parody, like the rape and torture galore, dished out at every turn to like 65% of the characters on this book but it did not matter since nobody had any mayor psychological damage, WTH? That and the fact that i couldn't for the life of me, get to like Hailey, made it a three stars read for me. She was whiny, selfish and too hangup on her issues with men (hellooo the guy is not a man! it's a damn alien! get your head out of your...behind already!). Other than that, I ended up enjoying the Athrian Warrior's universe and would definitely read the next story!
I wanted to like this, but I had a lot of trouble getting into the story. The author is really forcing a character to be sassy and fierce, but it came off a bit...desperate. the heroine is described as wearing a medieval style outfit, being too big to be considered attractive, carries more in her purse than I have in my utility drawer... I mean, the author details every item in her purse, and it just reminded me of choosing riley by se smith...a much better book which did a more successful job of creating a likable spunky plus-sized heroine. Then we're inundated with words that I'm not the author knows what they mean. Please...don't use the term language lexicon...it is redundant and makes me think someone got a thesaurus for her birthday. That s just one example, but there are many more. The tense sometimes changes from past to present...and out says it's been edited, but there are a lot of grammar mistakes. I'm sorry, but it isn't worth spending money on. It is reminiscent of other books, word choice is bizarre (seriously, using large words that are not common in current vernacular doesn't make the book smarter. You choose your words to set a tone and characterization. For example, we don't use sneaked instead of the incorrect snuck, because it takes you out of the story.) The author has talent; she is smart, which is evident, but she is trying to force her characters instead of letting them develop. I think this reads like an early work, and once she has more experience, she will come up with some pretty good stories.
I tried. I really did. I liked the world building, the Athrian warriors and their symbiots, etc. It had a lot of the elements I liked. Even a BBW heroine. That kept this from being a DNF, but it was really hard.
What I hate is a heroine who is ignorant, crass, and uncouth and proclaims it loudly to the world. Just because you don't understand something doesn't give you the right to be openly rude by telling people to keep it simple so you can keep up and spouting your own moral wisdoms on everyone else. Oh, and of course she is going to save the day and teach the aliens how to do it right during a time of crisis, when she is so ignorant? Please.
That is how Hailey came off to me at least. I liked her heart mate Jarrek a lot, as well as the other characters and want to see them get their fated loves, too. But something tells me the heroines will all be carbon copies of Hailey. No thanks.
I really dislike storylines that hammer the "I am so fat poor me". Some of my favorite stories never tell the size of the heroine, not big, not small. I read a story to get away from all the pressures of life. This h was "snarky and sassy" as described by the author. I found her annoying and b;itchy. Finally skipped a good portion to just get to the end. I won't buy another by this author.
So this is a pretty good book.It got some good ideas, as well as world building in it; there's a ton of potential for this story to grow into something very interesting. The character s in this story were relatable and likable like pretty much all of them. So I could do with maybe a character or 2 that weren't nice or likable to add some more dimension. Now first read through i don't remember spotting to many grammar or structure issues, but This time around it felt like I noticed them quite a bit. And I would definitely like to see the next couple who I'm guessing would be the one introduced at the end of this book and who also happen to be a trio. Yeah I could see some great times to be had there. So overall a easy and enjoyable book and one with plenty of potential, would be worth giving it a try.
I don't really know what to do with this book - I so wanted to love it, I was excited about a new series. Did I like it, Yes! Did I love it, No!
It was a decent read with some editing issues but nothing too distracting. However, I couldn't help thinking I'd read it before ... it's very similar to S.E. Smith, but not as good.
There was also a few issues with the characters and world building that left me puzzled/annoyed/concerned!! I'll let that go this time as the characters etc. may be developed more fully in future books - after all this is the pilot book of a new series.
I just didn't find anything exciting or new about it ... it was just predictable - or maybe I've just read too many books in this genre and I'm jaded lol!!
In saying all that though, it was an entertaining read and nicely filled in a couple of hours and I can't really complain about that.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series and hopefully I will find some twists and turns in the plot that fuel my imagination and keep me coming back for more.
It started really Well and even if there were ridiculous moments right from thé start,I found I rather enjoyed them. Mostly because Hailey was fantastic AT THE START. I mean I was contemplating giving à 4 star but found that, halfway through, Hailey became highly stereotypical. She was way too perky and she didn't feel things anymore. I love thé humor but thé manner with which she fell into a relationship was highly disappointing. The hero began seducing her but he didn't have a réal personnality which was really disappointing because thé first chapters were very good and I mean it. It could have gone à lot better but I still recommand it because thé author still managed to build à world . I have high hopes for next books she writes ( it seems she is a new author so I can forgive that easier it seems) Good luck for thé next book.
(sigh) I have so much respect for the work that goes into writing a book, that it's hard for me to give low ratings, but I just couldn't find a reason to give this more than a 2. The concept was great and there were some cute moments, but overall it felt rushed. The aliens, who at first had to learn the language of Earth, frequently alternated between the stilted and overly proper way you would expect a new comer to speak, to comfortably kicking it in our everyday vernacular, complete with profanity. And the main character whining on and on about how fat and unlovable the men of Earth thought she was made me sad. For me, the best part about this story was the romantic relationship between Haylie and her alien beau. It was very sweet.
I hadn't really checked the reviews before reading but the description needs a bit more. I laugh at the review that says there is too much dialogue, when is that a bad thing? There is a few editing errors the most humorous is the patient in a comma, but they were not overwhelming. I like sci-fi and this delivered along with some hot sex scenes. There is some disturbingly violent death, torture, and rape scenes though There is m/m sex, spanking, and raunchy speaking. Not all enjoy that just warning others if that is not their thing. I will be looking forward to the next in the series.
The basic plot of this book was interesting, but I had a very difficult time with the story switching back and forth from first person to third person, sometimes within the same paragraph. The story was simple overall and not quite believable. I also would have enjoyed it more if it had been edited. There were a lot of misspelled words and tenses switched from present to future to past a great deal. I hope that if the author writes another book in this series, she finds herself a very good Beta reader or editor to help her with these problems.
Knight in Shining Alien?: Arthurian Warriors Book One BY Ginger Branch
Lol, funny, snarky BBW female, abducted, resourceful and determined who ends up being a mate for King from another world. I'm happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her journey to get her HEA. Can't wait to see what happens next. So ENJOY This One Until the Next comes out.
Overall I liked this book. I liked Jarrek and Sid. Hailey was a bit extreme in her insecurities - one minute it seems she is berating herself and do not think she is good enough and the next she shouting obscenities and is in a take charge mindset. Her erratic behavior was a bit annoying. Otherwise the storyline was okay and a bit entertaining.
I loved the feisty heroine she brought the story to life especially since we can relate. This story about rival aliens who want to destroy each other. I enjoyed the fighting and the drama. I can't wait to find out about the other couples.
Didn't make it past 30 pages. It was just too much, it wasn't something I could stomach. I liked the plot, it started out really good but when they got to the torture, it was just too much. It sucks that I can't finish it but I just couldn't.
Good story. Very similar to S.E. Smiths dragon series with fated mates and symbiots. Also wasn't particularly fond of Hailey until quite far into the story.
I really liked this story and author! The book length was great at about 150 pages and the story line was fun. I'm going to keep my eyes opened for the next book. Great job Ms. Branch!
