His Haven

Handsome and diligent Avrum Brenin should have died in the fire with his mother and older brother. Instead, he is saved by the powerful and wealthy immortal, Lord Henri. Placed under his care, Avrum shares in his world of endless splendors. He must do one thing in return—look after Haven, a human and Lord Henri's newest rescue.

The simple task proves to be more complicated than it seems. Haven is disobedient, ungrateful, and hostile, yet she is beautiful and mystifying at the same time. One night, when Avrum stumbles across Haven barely clothed and bound at the wrists, the world he has trusted in unravels before his eyes. He soon discovers that no one—from Lord Henri and Haven to his closest friend, Lysander—are who they seem to be.

Now faced with the truth, will Avrum choose to surrender to the man who rescued him, or will he have the courage to save the woman who captivated him?

Lord Henri's world is one of indulgence. As Master of Greystone Manor, he has extended his good fortune to those in need. And in bringing guests to the manor, and offering them a new life, they receive an unexpected gift ... immortality. Avrum was one such human, not so long ago. And now, as a vampire, he is Lord Henri's second in command.

Never one to concern himself with the humans that grace the hallways of Greystone Manor, Avrum is surprised when he feels such a strong connection to Haven. Lord Henri's newest plaything, the beautiful female, Haven, is being paraded around the manor by Lord Henri, and kept alive for her blood. Having struck a deal with Lord Henri, Haven accepts her fate. That is, until she meets Avrum. She questions whether she is going mad, or if her attraction to Avrum is genuine. Either way, she feels a new sense of hope. And as she and Avrum begin to quietly fall in love secrets are revealed, causing Avrum to question his life at the manor, and his loyalties.

I was glued to the pages of this book and loved the characters--especially Avrum, who we watched evolve and grow with each chapter. But I wanted to know more about the vampire world! A little more attention to Avrum's world, and this would have been a 5 star read. Overall, a great story with memorable characters!

Debut author alert! This is such a great start - I fully intend to continue with the series when the next one is released.

In this book, the world revolves around Haven and Avrum, and their worlds revolve around each other, respectively. Sure, there are some other things going on along the way but that is the true meat-and-potatoes of it. Their eyes catch at the beginning of the novel and that's the end of it. Though there are some wrenches thrown into the plot as a whole, we more-or-less know what's going to happen at the end. This isn't a bad thing in the least, after all, that's why we have genre labels.

I love how human the vampires are in this book. It's not easy to write a book that contains vampires after the Twilight rise (and then horrific crash and burn). Brooks' vampires are different, though. Sure, they have an aversion to sunlight and a pretty intense lust for human blood but, other than that, they are just a like (and as variable) as you and me. I like that. I like that the vampires still breathe and sweat in addition to rapid healing and speed. It makes them "more-than-human" instead of different creatures overall and this makes the attraction between Haven and Avrum feel very natural.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. Brooks is showing herself as a great blooming author. Her story is fresh and, though some of the wording and scenes are a bit clunky, others are overall brilliant. I liked the addition of little subplots, though sometimes they were a bit of a distraction or not entirely resolved (I thought the whole Henri seeing Haven as Linna part would have more oomph to it). Also, some of the book moved dizzying fast from one part to the next ().

Overall, though, this is a quick and enjoyable read. Great start, Harper!

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

So why did I read this ya ask? Well, I am a closet historical reader buff thanks to a friend. I am also a freak about paranormal novels soooo a historical paranormal romance...ding ding ding...winner!!

I will admit I was a bit worried because historical romance + Paranormal = WEIRD but this book was great!!!! The story is about Avrum who is Lord Henri's bitch basically. I mean he does everything Lord Henri tells him because his master is a great guy...or so he thinks. Avrum's bff is Lysansder who has alot of secrets going on through the novel. One biggie is revealed at the end of the novel and I sure didn't see it coming. Well Lord Henri is such an "awesome" vampire, he has "saved" Haven from poverty to be his meal. He also kinda is bat shit crazy and thinks she is his lost love of 3 centuries ago. Anywho, Avrum finds he is falling for Haven and she him but they both think they are crazy. I mean how can he do this to Lord Henri who has done so much for him...Henri raised him like a father. Haven is like "Stockholm syndrome" here. He is a vamp like Henri. I can't love Avrum. Well the two end up having some "special time" together after Avrum realized the Douche Bag that Henri is. They then hatch a plan to escape forever.

I don'ts want to give much more away about the story but I really enjoyed the book. I started it and finished it in a day. I will say this book has alot of world building and can be a bit wordy at times but I still think it is a great read.

This book was filled with hate and love. Haven is a young woman who is brought to the manor and is beaten and used. Avrum, while a vampire, is her unlikely savior. Together these two find love and work together to fight the evil lord who runs Greystone Manor. I found this book to be a very good read. It was so easy from page one to love both Haven and Avrum and so easy to hate Lord Henri.

In my mind this book wasn't your normal vampire read. Many of the characters do not even know what they are. It gives the reader a bit of a different perspective. A different look from both perspectives, human and vampire. The ending couldn't have been any better, but I hate not knowing what happened to Lysander and the Emma.

This book was very well written and was easy to read and enjoy. Once I picked it up, I did not want to put it down. So I want to say thank you for allowing me to read and review this book and I will definitely be recommending it in the future....Stormi

At first this book was a bit slow to start....you didn't know what was going on and what the plot was. There was something tho about the story that kept you reading...wanting to know what happens to Haven, or if Avrum will succeed, or after all in the end Lord Henri continues to reign.

The story was a bit wordy that was the main reason I knocked off a fang, but I kept finding myself rooting for Haven and Avrum! Haven's fiesty attitude and sassy mouth keep you cheering for her to survive and escape from Lord Henri's clutches.

Avrum's loyalty is surely tested once he learns all of Lord Henri's secrets....will he be able to break his loyalty to save the woman who has stolen his heart? or will he remain loyal? Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock was given an awesome book and I may just snag the second book for this Vampy series

I LOVED LOVED LOVED His Haven, its an adult historical romance, and one of the best I've read! Main character, Avrum, lives under the care of Lord Henri, an immortal, who saved him from the fire that killed his mother and brother. Now an immortal, with riches and grand parties, he finds nothing wrong with Lord Henri. One night when he finds Haven- Henri's new rescue- tied to his bed, half naked, and beaten, he realised that Henri is not who he says he is. So with the help of his best friend Lysander, they go against him to save Haven.

When Averum is saved by immortal Lord Henri he becomes his second in command at Greystone Manor, he never has any reason to question his loyality towards Lord Henri until he comes across a beaten Haven tied to Henri's bed. Their simmering attraction is hard to deny but can Haven trust Averum to save her or will his loyalty overcome any feelings he has for Haven. This is a well written historical immortals romance read with dark twisting themes.

I thought the book was good. We follow Avrum, Henri, and Haven in this story. I thought the book started off good but I felt like the story was a bit rushed. It did read like a fantasy novel with some romance instead of a romantic fantasy, for me. 3.5 stars

His Haven starts off mysteriously with Avrum waiting for Henri to show up to the party. When Henry arrives with a not so happy looking Haven on his arm; Avrum starts to wonder why. A great read with plenty of intriguing moments.

His Haven is a fantastic story.

Haven is a human girl trapped under the thumb of a ruthless vampire lord, Henri, who seems to believe she is someone else—a past lover. Haven had sacrificed herself to save her father, which is how she ended up in her terrifying predicament, but as far as she’s concerned, she is going to escape. And there’s a lot to like about her spunk. I was cheering for her from the first page. She never gives up. And then she meets Avrum, a vampire under Henri’s care, and from their first encounter, something clicks between them. It’s only when Avrum uncovers the way Henri treats Haven that he start to question the lord he looks up to. Together with his closest friend, who trains him in the art of fighting and using his vampire strength, Avrum is determined to save Haven. His attraction for her grows, and her feelings mirror his. The ending is climatic, unexpected and more than satisfying. We’re left with the promise of a sequel, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I have to say, Avrum was my favorite character. He learnt the biggest lesson, and in the end he risked his life for Haven. How can you not like him after that? A bit more depth to the vampire world would have strengthened the story further, but it sure didn’t take away from it being a wonderful love story.
Lovers of paranormal romances with historical elements will love His Haven.

I really loved this book. I have been a long time fan of vampires, but felt the genre was getting too soft with the recent YA additions. His Haven is very different from the majority of romantic vampire stories out there because of the time period of the story. Though there is romance in the story, it does not take away from the fact that there are vampires and most of them aren't the nice gentlemen we've dreamed about. The characters are realistic and relatable, most importantly they are believable. When you reach the height of the story, there is tension and fear for the characters you've grown to love all these pages. I look forward to reading the next books in the series and learning more about these characters!!

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. It sucked me in. The writing style makes you feel like you are actually in that time period and in the characters' heads, living out the story. I love Haven's strong will, and her connection with her father. She risks her life many times to save his. Avrum is the typical romance, alpha male, but he grows into a strong, free-thinking man. After he discovers the truth about Lord Henri and Haven, his view on the world shifts. His love for Haven grows the moment he first sees her, and from that moment on, you have to read on. This author has an unique style. It fits the Victorian era. Exciting, sexy, suspenseful... Full of adventure and romance! This books is very hard to put down once you've started! Can't wait until book two!

Snatched from poverty by a wealthy man who claims he’s taken her for her own good, Haven does not care for, nor does she fully understand the life he offers. She’d rather be at her poor, sickly father’s side, than dripping in gems and drinking champagne.
Harper Brooks weaves an interesting tale that reveals the glamorous ennui of the vampire elite of England. While slowly peeling back the layers of this secret society, she brings to light both evil and goodness in unlooked-for corners. It is well written, and truly captures the imagination, and oh, fasten your seatbelts for the grand finale! It’ll leave your head spinning…with delight.
Well done.

I read the book under the demands of a friend of mine, who loved the book, and I must say, this book has quite a few surprises in it. More than one, I caught myself gasping and gripping for more, but the concept, beautifully stated, is choppily executed. The chemistry between the two characters took almost no time at all the create, and hit it off to eternity in an instant, but each individual character had wonderful back stories, and the imagery of the book is amazingly vivid for my taste.

I really liked this book and the writing style was great. I have some questions about the ending and what else happened. Here is hoping that there will be more about this book and characters in the future.

I have found another author to read from now.

Brilliant

This is a realistic view of a nonexistent creature. What it must really be like to be a vampire if they really existed. It is similar to other series done with vampires, but it is done in the fifteenth century.

This book didn’t really hold my attention very well. It was very predictable for me. It was way half past when I got a little more interested in what was happening. I would say read at own risk if recommended.

Haven is a human girl that has been “taken” in by Lord Henri. Lord Henri is a vampire who believes that Haven is basically his ex-lover re-incarnated. Haven despises everything Henri is and his kind. Henri feeds on Haven, buys her jewelry and dresses and shows her off at parties. Haven tries to or wants to run every chance she gets. Haven's father is still alive and Henri promises to leave him alone as long as Haven behaves.

Lord Henri has asked Avrum, a young vampire that he turned to be Haven's ward. To make sure she stays safe and does not try to run off. Avrum agrees. Avrum is also taken by Haven. He feels things when he is near her. Avrum knows though that he can not have her or touch her because she is Lord Henri’s.

Lysander is also a vampire that lives in the same household and he decides to help Avrum and Haven escape. Lysander is an excellent swordsman. They all come up with a plan and things roll. There are some hitches but what plan is ever perfect. Will they get away? Will they get caught? Read it to find out.

This is a new author to me and I will be reading more of her work. The characters are well developed and the storyline is intriguing and gasp worthy. Avrum is saved and made immortal by Lord Henri and becomes his second in command at Greystone Manor. He never has concerned himself with the humans being paraded around Greystone Manor until Haven. She is Lord Henri’s new plaything but when Avrum happened upon her she is tied to his bed and beaten. Avrum begins questioning Lord Henri’s altruism. He and Haven begin to fall from each other. Will he be able to save Haven?
