The book is very well written, but be prepared for a plot that is more akin to reading a history book than reading a book with active adventure. A lot of snooping in libraries goes on, and all the facts revealed are related. I put the book down many times and finally finished, only somewhat happy with the conclusion. People told me "It's not so much a vampire book as a history of vampires book." It's really not even that. It's a book rife with the history of a vampire's grave's location and the histories of the countries it has been through, or whom Vlad Dracula influenced through war. That said, I wasn't angry at the end of the book (so it wasn't a waste of time), so I'll give it 3 stars.
