Her first job was as features writer on 19 magazine. Since then, she has written articles, celebrity interviews and columns for many magazines and newspapers including the Evening Standard, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and the Daily Mail. Until last year she worked as features editor on Marie Claire magazine. Katie now lives in Bath with her husband, John Latimer and their baby, Olivia.

Uma leitura que me surpreendeu.
Não estava à espera que me prendesse tanto.
Adoro livros com segredos e que nos transportem entre o presente e o passado, para os desvendar, e este é mesmo esse género
Ainda estive na dúvida entre as 3 e as 4*, mas tive que me inclinar para as 4 uma vez que não posso dar 3,5, e as 3* não seriam, de todo, justas

Geschafft 😬
Dieses Buch kann man schon fast als SuB Leiche bezeichnen 🙈. Wegen einer Challenge "musste" ich es aber jetzt doch mal lesen 😄.
Bereut habe ich es nicht, aber ich glaube es war nicht ganz der richtige Zeitpunkt für dieses Buch.
Mir wurde das Buch empfohlen, da ich ja die Bücher von Lucinda Riley liebe. An diese kommt "Die Perlenfrauen" leider nicht dran, aber verstecken muss es sich trotzdem nicht 🤗.
In diesem Buch folgen wir u. a. Sophia (die ich am Anfang wirklich anstrengend fand) und erfahren viel über die Vergangenheit ihrer Großmutter. Diese hat vor vielen Jahren eine Perlenkette bekommen und möchte diese vor ihrem Tod noch ein einziges Mal sehen. Nur leider ist diese Kette seit vielen Jahren verschollen.
Auf der Suche erfährt man wie gesagt viel über Sophia's Großmutter, aber auch über ihre Mutter Alice. Es gibt aber auch Kapitel aus der Sicht von Aiko und Dominic und man erfährt erst später wieso sie so wichtig für die Geschichte sind 😁.
Die letzten 150 konnten mich wirklich mitreißen 😄 davor ist die Handlung zwar eher vor sich hin geplätschert, aber das passt auch zu dem Buch 🤗.
Ich kann mir auf jeden Fall vorstellen, dass ich nochmal ein Buch der Autorin lese 😁

Sophia has messed things up and her reputation is ruined. She has no place to live, she's single and she's been disinherited by her parents. The only good thing in her life is her best friend Hugo. When she receives letters from her grandmother Tilly, who was once a famous Hollywood star, Sophia gathers her strength to pay her a visit. She hasn't seen her grandmother in quite a while and this is her last chance. Tilly is in a hospice and she's dying. There's one thing she still wants to do. She tells Sophia about her life, about her childhood and the priceless gift she received from her father on her eighteenth birthday.

The Inheritance is a beautiful story about several remarkable women and a stunning necklace that changed their lives. Katie Agnew has clearly done her research and I was intrigued by both the history of the necklace and the general information she gives about pearls. The story gripped me from the start. It's set in several eras and each chapter brings something new and captivating. The adventure begins with the origin of the pearls in Japan before they become Tilly's special necklace. I loved that this history is included. The journey of the necklace is a fascinating one from the start and I enjoyed following it until the end.
Katie Agnew has an amazing compelling writing style. She gives her readers a wonderful view of the world. I fell in love with the pearl necklace straight away and couldn't wait to find out what happened to it. I really liked the vivid descriptions of the settings, main characters and objects, the thorough explanation of each topic, the dazzling lifestyles, the complex family relationships and sweet romance and together they make this story completely perfect.
The pearls have enriched the lives of many women and some of their stories moved me to tears. Because there are a number of owners there are many main characters. One of the reasons I liked The Inheritance so much is that they are all equally interesting to read about. Because of the clear chronological order it's easy to follow the plot and I loved Katie Agnew's surprising twists and turns. I loved the creativity and the originality of The Inheritance, it's a truly enchanting book. I slowly savored the story and loved every single sentence. I highly recommend this delightful sparkling story.

Esquecido durante quase 4 anos na prateleira, eis que uma leitura conjunta o trouxe para a luz do dia. Talvez por ter capa de leitura leve, eu não estava preparada para esta saga familiar e para a força, mesmo que escondida, que as mulheres desta família demonstram em relação aos desafios do quotidiano.

THE INHERITANCE is more than fluff however as the author takes time to dwell into the psyche of her interrelated characters, though one male counterpart could have been more omnipresent than the beginning and the last few pages of this fine novel. The story goes back and forth in time and succeeds in keeping the reader enthralled all the way to the dramatic conclusion which is very well handled but may carry itself a bit too far regarding rose-colored ending. All in all, THE INHERITANCE is a strong book and should definitely be added to your library.

Ich bin begeistert!
"Die Perlenfrauen" wurde mir von meiner Mutter ans Herz gelegt und ich bin einfach nur froh, ihrer Empfehlung jetzt nachgekommen zu sein.
Die Geschichte ist unglaublich schön und ich fand es super spannend zu sehen, wie mehrere Leben zu einem Handlungsstrang zusammengeführt wurden. Anfangs war ich etwas verwirrt, als immer mehr Personen dazu kamen, welche augenscheinlich nichts mit der Protagonistin gemein hatten, doch nach und nach sieht man die Verbindungen.
Großen Respekt dafür an Katie Agnew!
Auch die Entwicklung der einzelnen Personen ist gut ausgearbeitet und sehr realistisch. Ich konnte mich gut in Sophia, Alice, Tilly und Co. hineinversetzen und habe mit ihnen gefühlt.
Das Ende hat mich über alle Maßen berührt und ich musste mich echt zusammenreißen um nicht wie ein Schlosshund zu heulen. :')
Von mir gibt es 5/5 Sterne und eine absolute Leseempfehlung für alle, die auf berührende Familiengeschichten stehen. Lasst euch "Die Perlenfrauen" nicht entgehen!

Inhaltsangabe:
Sophias Großmutter hat nur noch wenige Wochen zu leben und schreibt ihrer Enkelin daher Briefe aus ihrem Leben, verbunden mit der Hoffnung, dass Sophia sie besucht. Doch Sophia geriet auf die schiefe Bahn und hat mit ihren Eltern gebrochen. Um diesen nicht zu begegnen, legt sie die Briefe erstmal weg. Aber schließlich kommt sie doch zur Besinnung und besucht ihre Großmutter, deren größter Wunsche es ist, ihre verlorene Perlenkette wiederzufinden.
Diese bekam sie mit 18 Jahren von ihrem Vater geschenkt und hat sie wiederum an ihre Tochter Alice weitergegeben. Doch seitdem fehlt von der Kette jede Spur.
Meine Meinung:
Die Geschichte wird hauptsächlich in zwei Strängen erzählt.
Zum einen haben wir Sophia´s Leben, das von Anfang an nicht leicht war. Ihre Eltern sind zwar vermögend, doch sie gerät auf die schiefe Bahn und der Kontakt zu ihren Eltern bricht ab.
Obwohl sie ein Leben führte, was ich nicht gut heißen kann, sie läßt sich aushalten, arbeitet nichts, schafft Sophia es trotzdem, dass sie mir sympathisch wurde.
Ich fand es so toll, wie sie sich mit ihrem guten Freund Hugo auf die Suche nach der Kette machte und wirklich alles dafür gibt, diese auch zu finden.
Im zweiten Erzählstrang geht es um die Perlentaucherin Manami und ihrer Tochter Aiko und wir erfahren, wie das schöne Collier überhaupt enstanden ist.
Dieser Teil hat mir sehr gut gefallen, konnte ich doch soviel interessantes über diesen gefährlichen und aufregenden Beruf erfahren.
In einem Nebenstrang geht es auch noch um Dominic, der von seiner Frau verlassen wurde und nach einer Auslandsreise eine leere Wohnung vorfindet. Er ist dabei, sich ein neues Leben aufzubauen.
Zum Schluß hin vereinen sich aber alle Teile und fügen sich zu einem wunderschönen Ende.
Ich kann von dem Buch nur aufs höchste schwärmen, ich hätte nie gedacht, dass mich so eine wundervolle Geschichte erwartet. Die Autorin schreibt sehr flüssig und mitreisend. Die Erzählstränge wechseln sich zwischen Gegenwart und Vergangheit ab und hören immer an spannenden Stellen auf, sodaß man einfach immer weiter lesen muß.
Die Geschichte ist rundum stimmig, die Protagonisten sind alle sehr lebendig und authentisch, ich habe mich von der ersten Seite an wohlgefühlt und ich möchte sie unbedingt weiterempfehlen.

The Inheritance is one of those rare lovely books sent to me by a publisher that I wouldn't have necessarily chosen to read myself.
Sophia Beaumont Brown was the ultimate IT girl, but after a series of unflattering articles and untruths printed about her in the tabloids, she is on a downward spiral. Living in nothing more than a glorified squat with her best friend Hugo, Sophia has been estranged from her family for months.
It's a letter from her dying Granny and an unfortunate encounter with her ex-fiancee that sets Sophia on the road to reconciliation with her family, but not before learning a few hard life lessons on the way.
Sophia's Granny, Lady Matilda Beaumont (a.k.a. former Hollywood actress 'Tilly') wants Sophia to help her find the missing pearl necklace that was given to her by her beloved Father on her 18th Birthday. The only trouble is Tilly is now bedridden, and no one has seen the necklace in years.
Sophia reluctantly contacts her estranged parents for help in locating the missing heirloom. To say that she doesn't exactly get a warm welcome would be a little bit of an understatement. So convinced are they that Sophia is only after her Granny's inheritance after cutting all ties with them they refuse to help.
Sophia is forced to look elsewhere, and in doing so finds herself being transported back in time by her Grandmother's diaries. But can Sophia find Tilly's necklace before time runs out for her Grandmother? She can but try, and for Sophia it's probably the most important thing she's done in her whole life...

Prawie wszystko jest w tej książce świetne. Historie są ciekawe i unikalne, zdecydowanie zakochałam się w historii poławiaczek pereł. Nie mogłam się oderwać od książki jak tylko ją zaczełam i skończyłam ją w dwa posiedzenia. Ma jednak ona swoją słabą stronę i według mnie są to wątki romatyczne. Nie ukrywam, nie jestem wielką fanką romansu typu "zaczekaliśmy na siebie x lat i mimo, że jesteśmy już totalnie innymi osobami to nadal się kochamy". Pierwszy raz jak został on jednak zastosowany w książce był całkiem okej, do przeżycia i całkiem realistyczny, nawet mi się podobał. Jednak drugi raz to był totalny żart. Naprawdę myśle, że sto razy lepiej wypadłoby to, gdyby Luce i Alice na razie zostali przyjaciółmi; może w przyszłości zeszliby się, może nie. Matce głównej bohaterki zdecydowanie bardziej niż ten związek i tak przydałaby się wizyta u psychologa. Związek głównej bohaterki to też jakiś żart - "znam cię 2 dni, ale już cię kocham😭❤️" no błagam, zachowanie jak u 12-latków, którzy znaleźli sobie dziewczyne/chłopaka na msp i na drugi dzień już pół Polski chcą dla niej/niego przejechać. Mam lekkie poczucie jakby autorka po prostu na koniec wszystkich chciała wepchnąć w związki.

Meh
I'd just finished a wonderful novel that I positively gushed about on Goodreads. It was beautifully crafted, evocative and utterly absorbing. This wasn't it. Lots of people can tell a story, not many can tell it well. This was clonky, vapid and utterly unmemorable. It was suggested as a next read on kindle, the subject matter was something I was interested in , the reviews were decent so I decided to give it a whirl; only to realise it was already in my library. It didn't bode well that I'd clearly started is some years ago ... only to have abandoned it at 5%. But I thought I'd give it another go .
A glaring editorial error on pg2 raised my hackles and I'm afraid I lost the will to live at 10%, skimmed through for another 10% then abandoned it. Agggghhh. Nothing worse than going from filet mignon to cat food in the space of an hour . I hate clumsy dual narratives , I hate with a passion lazy characterisation . It's just a really naff book

Szczerze mówiąc okładka od samego początku mnie zaciekawiła i zaintrygowała. Spodziewałam się jakiejś błahej opowieści - i jakże bardzo się pomyliłam. Historia tych kilku osób, których łączyło i połączyło nie przypadek, a przeznaczenie była dla mnie zadziwiająca, chwytająca momentami za serce i doprowadzająca do wzruszenia. Wszystko w tej książce idealnie się zazębiało w czasie, co według mnie było nielada wyczynem. Autorka sprawiła, że spowrotem wróciły do mnie uczucia i wiara w to, że miłości pojawia się w odpowiednim momencie, w odpowiednim czasie, a co najważniejsze z odpowiednią osobą. Spodziewałam się troszeczkę innego zakończenia, co najważniejsze bardziej rozbudowanego i rozwiniętego, ale w takiej formie również jest dla mnie satysfakcjonujące.

Nie była zła, ale też nie do końca mnie porwała. Spodziewałam się trochę innej końcówki, jakiegoś większego połączenia wątków, a tak naprawdę każda historia zakończyła się osobno. Chyba pierwsza książka z wątkiem poławiaczek pereł, którą w ogóle czytałam, dlatego ten aspekt bardzo mi się podobał. Styl pisania również był bardzo fajny, przez historie się płynie i ciągle chce więcej. Polecam, aczkolwiek jestem pewna że w perspektywie czasu zapomnę o tej książce.

Eins der besten Bücher, die ich je gelesen habe!!!! Es war einfach genial, wie alle Personen, Geschichten und vor allem unterschiedliche Zeitspannen miteinander verwoben sind! Und wie eine einzige Perlenkette so viel in den unterschiedlichen Leben verändern kann!!!

Wow, wow, wow!
Na początku książka nie wywarła na mnie wrażenia. Trochę się gubiłam i nie rozumiałam dlaczego jest tam poruszonych tyle wątków różnych osób. Jednak kiedy wszystko zaczęło się wyjaśniać i łączyć w spójną całość wciągnęłam się. Przez bite dwie godziny siedziałam i nie mogłam się oderwać od stron tej książki. Definitywnie 5/5.

Left a lot of chapters wanting to read more. Loved how you got to understand each character really well. Also like how the three stories intertwined really well. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was how Dom and Sophia become a couple. It feels a bit too perfect but I won’t complain as they work so well together.

Um bom romance! Apesar de ser contemporâneo, tem muita História, mas de um ponto de vista pessoal, muito elucidativo do pós guerra não só no Reino Unido como no Japão.

Easy read and the sort of book you keep wanting to read one more chapter even if you’re tired. Aiko’s story was the most compelling for me. The spoilt rich girls, Alice and Sophia, never really had my sympathy and I felt both their endings were trite and implausible, hence 4 stars not 5.

Bardzo przeciętna powieść. Bez polotu, topornie napisana choć daje się czytać. Sprawdza się jako lektura plażowa. Ale zaledwie o rangę wyżej od taniego romansidła.

I bought this book as I was intrigued by the story and it didn't let me down. The book relays the story of the pearls and the different women who were involved with them. A really good read.
