On page 62.published in 2005 but the hospital description seems quite dated. Nurses wearing caps, teaching rounds in patient’s rooms .. and surgeons conducting them ! This is not Europe .. but Dallas, TX !
I started hospital work in 2006 .. not too far from Dallas .. so lots of questions. Maybe teaching hospitals ARE that different ?!

Of his 186 novels this is based on true story. Definitely God centered.

This was a reread for me, but on the first read it was my first book by Gilbert Morris. Copyrighted 2005, it did seem dated for 2022 but I have always loved that it was based on an actual couple and the story of how they met. It has once again earned its spot on my bookshelf.

LI--Interesting premise--Nurse listening to God's lead for husband. Medical information/details VERY outdated.

I think the author's note at the end helped me appreciate the story more . . . knowing that this was based on an actual couple that Gilbert and Johnnie Morris had met. Still, it was definitely an eye-opener, because I felt a little uncomfortable about some of the things Ketura had been told by God to do. I think, of course, that that was my own opportunity to ask myself if *I* would do seemingly off the wall things because I felt God wanted me to. That's something I'm going to be pondering for a bit . . . getting my mind and heart in the right place to be 'God's girl'.
That said, I did like how the relationship between Jared and Ketura seemed to flow naturally from acquaintances, to friends, to feelings of 'forever'.

Heaven Sent Husband by Gilbert Morris is a romance laden in the protagonist Ketura Lindsey’s strong belief that God is guiding her life and actually telling her what to do. Sometimes it became little tedious to wade through, I must admit.

When I read, I’m looking for the sense of the plot, the why of an action or decision for the characters. I’m a concrete and logical person. I need real reasons for things to happen in story. I think many readers come to story to find a logical world. Because of this, the next thing happens. Many times in real life, we can’t find—or understand—the reasons for actions and decisions. This doesn’t mean that your story logic should be simplistic. On the contrary, the deeper the story, the more likely the reader will stay with the character to the very end, hoping for a happy [or logical] ending.

Morris’ Heaven Sent Husband has that happy ending for all the characters. I need to read books like this every once in a while because life situations don’t always end happily. If you’re looking for a “happily ever after” ending and don’t mind lots of religious overtones, then Heaven Sent Husband by Gilbert Morris is the book for you. It’s an easy read.

A novel can be forgiven if it is boring because it is realistic. Or vice versa. But this book was both boring and unrealistic. I read the authors note that this is BASED on a true story, but the implication that details were changed for effect begs the question, why not more?
I have a hard time sympathizing with woe-is-me-27-and-unmarried trope.
Most of us don’t have God giving us such clear direction.

#BookReview At first I questioned the faith of Ketura, like she seemed too desperate for a husband but when I got to the end I realized that faith is not desperation when you believe, seek direction, act in line and be patient.
Looks and status is not what you are looking for in marriage, attitude and character is the key factor.
A book based on a true life story.

I love kindle it has the most options out of all my reading apps but it is a little frustrating when I can not find the book I want.

I love how many options it has, but then it also does not have everything so that is a little frustrating to find that a series you really want to read is not on their.

Decent story. Loss and love. Struggles in our lives are real, our reaction to them makes us who we are and where we go....

HEAVEN SENT HUSBAND
A Lament
-------------------

In keeping with my policy of assigning one-star reviews to books I do not finish, violá.

Why did I not finish the book?

The dialog.

It read like a bad sitcom--false, forced, dated. Almost robotic.

Here are some examples:

1. "Gosh, this is a great dog" (page 10).

What real boy, post-moon landing, sounds like this?

2. "...all I can remember is a rather nasty boy who teased me about being so tall. He was always puling [sic] my ponytail, and once he pushed me into a mud puddle" (page 15).

That's the protagonist talking. She's supposed to be in her early 20s. Someone should upgrade her language software.

3. "Why, Ket, you're home early. Did you see your young friend" (page 17).

This is supposed to be an older character, so maybe this dialog would fit.

Unfortunately, all the characters sound exactly the same: like an old black-and-white sitcom.

[Update: It looks like the author has successfully published scores of other works, so maybe I will try to find something else that he has written that I like better.]

I almost put this book down and walked away because I thought it was just so ridiculous and far fetched. I then read that this book was based on a true story. The fact that it was based on a true story and that the author said he never would have came up with that storyline really redeemed the book. It was cute. The real and fictional Ketura is a very faithful person, you would have to be to do what she did. The real and fictional Jared is pretty faithful too or else he might have ran in the other direction. Not sure if I would read again but it was a nice story.

Ketura was surprised to learn that Jared was an intern at the hospital that she was a nurse at. He was a couple years older than her and would tease her in school about being so tall. He would pull her poneytail and never really seemed to notice her in any other way.

It was amazing when God spoke to her and told her to tell her friends that she would be getting married soon and it would be Jared. At that time he was dating someone else. But she acted on faith and amazing how things turn out.

A nice refreshing story.

The heroine of this story is a strong independent woman whose strong faith has brought her far in life. When an old high school boy comes back into her life, Katrina has to put her full faith in God in order to trust that He would work things out for her even if what He is directing her to do seems impossible. This novel serves as a great reminder of what can happen when we put our full trust in God even in situations that seem ridiculous and impossible.

I don't believe I've really read romances written by men. To top it off this is a Christian romance written by a male retired preacher. Going in, I was skeptical, but tried to be open-minded. The book was pretty ridiculous. I guess it was a sweet book, but overall ridiculous and not my cup of tea. It made it a little better when I saw that it was inspired by a true story, but not by much. I enjoy the love-inspired line of books usually, but there do seem to be a few duds.

This book was just what I needed right now... Then to find out it was based on a true story made it all the more enjoyable. I'll admit, some of it was different... I don't really know how to describe some of the feelings I got randomly. Overall, it was an enjoyable book, perfect for us single ladies waiting for our very own Heaven-Sent Husband. Thanks for the read, Gilbert Morris.

There wasn't much for me to connect to in this book, though I found it interesting. I would have enjoyed it more if I'd known it was based on a true story when I started.

I really liked this book because it is based on real events. It shows how I'm supposed to answer to the Lord's promptings but don't.
