In the final installment of the Amish Heirloom series, the Fisher sisters learn the mystery behind their parents’ marriage—and about the sibling who has never been spoken of.
Mattie Fisher’s three daughters know that she’s been keeping a secret from them. With each item pulled from the beloved family hope chest, they’ve discovered a new clue about their mother’s past.
But there’s a reason Mattie has been keeping her history hidden, and she’s not sure she’s ready to reopen old wounds. Will dredging up the past change the way her children view her? Or her marriage to their father? And can she handle the pain of revisiting the memories that preceded the last few happy decades?
Mattie’s story is one of grief and learning to love again. But like the best things preserved in a hope chest, it's a story of love and redemption born out of heartache—and it's past time to share it.

This is the fourth and final installement in the Amish Heirloom series. This is the story of the Fisher sister's parents and of their oldest sibling whom their parents never spoke of. Before you read this story get ready by having a mug of hot tea and a box of tissues at the ready. After one of the siblings finds a blue onsie in her mother's hope chest she starts asking questions because she only has sisters. Their mother sits the girls down and tells her story even though it's so hard for her to do. Their mother had been married before she was married to the girl's father and they had never known. Mattie, the mother, had been married to another man and was expecting his baby. Life was wonderful and she and her husband were looking forward to life with their new baby. A decision to run a last minute errand leaves her husband dead when he jumps in front of a fighting couple to protect the woman. Her husband is hailed a hero but Mattie only wants her husband back and the father for her unborn baby. Her friend since childhood steps in and asks her to marry him after the funeral. Now Leroy has loved Mattie since childhood but Mattie has always only seen it as friendship. He is looking forward to raising Mattie's baby as his own and being married to Mattie. After a tragedy leaves them both devastated she just falls into a deep depression and feels unable to be a wife to Leroy. He gives her all the time she needs but she still doesn't come around and finally moves out of her husband's home. Miracles do happen though as God shines his light showing us his infinite wisdom. It's all in his timing not ours! I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to seeing what Amy Clipston comes out with next because it's sure to be a winner! I try not to be jealous of those who are pretty criers, but honestly. Why in the world am I mentioned about (not) being a pretty crier? Y’all. This book. Oh, my goodness. I try not to get emotionally attached to any characters, but it’s so hard when they’re so well written like Mattie & Leroy in this novel. I really enjoyed the previous books in this series and seeing all the hints of the girls’ parents’ story. Actually reading it, however, I was sniffling and just wanted to hug everyone while inwardly bawling for them! (What can I say? I’m a hugger and an emotional wreck.) I definitely recommend reading this series in order, because I got pretty giddy (through my tears, mind you) seeing the raspberry pie recipe, the courtship basket, and the quilt. Talk about tying everything up with a bow! Aww, well, Miss Amy Clipston did it again with another great series—I’m so sad it’s over, but I’m so looking forward to meeting & getting to know her new characters!

This is book four in the Amish Heirloom series. I've read them all and feel like I know the family. Book four didn't disappoint after reading the sister's stories. In this book you learn about their parent's story and the secret they have been keeping for many years. After one of the other daughters discover a box, Mattie must sit her daughters down and tell them the truth. I couldn't put this book down it was so good. I love reading Amy's books because she makes the characters seem real and allow you to connect. Be prepared to laugh & cry. I recommend reading the first three books first. Sad that this series ended.
5 Stars! This was really good, it was actually much better than I expected it to be. There was this cliché moment where Mattie lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, I rolled my eyes at that, because I am almost 100% sure that I have not done this before, and yet, characters in books always seem to have that ability?😳 I loved this book and I'm so happy our library finally got it! There was a lot of things in here that I needed to hear. This is such a sad and happy story at the same time, about healing and loss, and then love.
For the first 75%, this was going to be a solid 4 star read. Then the plot started doing a ‘wash, rinse, repeat’ and I just couldn’t. Still a good book overall though.
What a stunning conclusion to this series!! Oh my!!! My breath has just been absolutely taken away!!! Amy has done a fabulous job on this novel. i loved this series from the beginning and yes I would advise reading the first book before this one. Mattie has a secret that she has kept hiding from us since book one. I definitely can relive Mattie's story. I cried because I understood what she was going through. Time is the essence of this book. Grief has no time of when it will it will ever be over. Healing is a process through time. Time is our greatest need. I still miss what I have lost. I wonder every day Why God? What have I done to deserve This? Loss is hard no matter who or what we have lost. Grief is the same. Time has no meaning. Over time it has helped me that this is God's will. Our time on Earth is limited. God knows the hour, day, etc when our time is done. I loved that Amy put in God is our refuge and strength, a time of help in our present time of trouble. I will have to say this, I love this song by Mary McDonald. God is always with us. It is us who leave him. I really don't know what else to say except repeating myself that this is a must read and I strongly recommend this book for people who love reading Amish stories. I believe that this book also shows us that Amish people are no different than us. They suffer loss and grieve just as we do. They make mistakes just like they do. The only difference they try not to live of the world but apart from it. (I think I've got this right). Correct me if I'm wrong. I am going to re-read this series in the future because I enjoyed it so much! Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this wonderful book by one of my favorite authors! I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and was in no way required to review this book. All words are my own
The Beloved Hope Chest is book four in the Amish Heirloom series. It can easily be read as a stand alone if you have not read the other novels leading up to it. However, this story is even richer in meaning if you have read the other books. So, whether you read books one through four in order, or read this book and go back to read the others, this is a series not to miss!
The Amish Heirloom series is definitely one of my favorites and The Beloved Hope Chest has zoomed up to the number one spot as my favorite book of the series. It is simply packed with deep emotional issues! There were so many heartbreaking ups and downs along with uplifting moments of hope that kept me reading and reading. I could hardly set this book down!
One of my favorite parts of this novel was reading the letters, especially the ones written by Leroy. They felt so real, like I was really seeing into this character’s heart. Reading this book makes me want to go back and re-read the others in the series soon. I highly recommend this novel for fans of Amish fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The Beloved Hope Chest is the quintensennial grand finale to a beautiful series of intricately-woven together stories. Amy Clipston is an exceptional author who has written four remarkable Amish novels! Even though the books are in a series, they most definitely can be read alone. After reading The Beloved Hope Chest, I am ready to start reading the rest of the books in the series again, they are that good! Mattie Fisher's daughters, Veronica, Rachel and Emily's stories have been told in the three prior books to The Beloved Hope Chest. These books are all part of the Amish Heirloom series. During Veronica, Rachel and Emily's stories they find unique items in their mother's hope chest that pique their curiosity. Mattie's not sure exactly what to say, but believes it is now past time to share her past with them. Mattie's story is beautiful and will tug at your heart. You will realize why it took her so long to share her past with her own family. Once you start reading this book, you will not want to put it down. Amy does a great job of bringing the characters to life; take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, with the Fisher family and you surely will not be disappointed! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from the author and have given my honest opinion.
This was okay. I would have liked it more as a novella or if the present had played a bigger role in the story. The backstory wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I think it was the characters. I liked Mattie less in this book than I did in the previous books. I understand her sadness, but I don't like the way she treated the people that cared about her, especially her husband, Leroy. He was a character that I liked more in this book. He handled things better than Mattie did, but I didn't agree with all of his decisions either. I knew there was a happy ending for the two of them, but I wanted more from the sisters'/daughters' stories. They were only in the first and last chapters of the book.
I have enjoyed each and every book from this series, and had so many questions regarding the items found in the hope chest. All questions answered, in the most intimate and beautiful way. I must warn you, you will need tissues when you read this. Maybe a whole box if you're emotional. No joke! This book is so emotional, and as you're reading you feel all of the emotions with Mattie, Leroy and the others.
Amy is such a beautiful writer. None of her books have ever disappointed me, and this one is no different. Of the four from the Amish Heirloom Series, this is by far my favorite, which I've said with each new release probably, but if you've read them all then you understand why. But here's what sets this book apart from the others - the raw emotion shown from beginning to end. There is loss in the story in different forms, and you get to see inside the heart and soul of Mattie while she's trying to deal with it. But you also get to see this side of Leroy that I was not expecting. No matter how frustrated he may have been in the inside, he had such patience and grace with Mattie and I found that to be so amazing. How many men would have responded like him!? He was so sweet, kind, and most of all compassionate. But there is a time where he makes an astonishing admission about something I didn't really notice or think of during the book. But this didn't lesson my thoughts of him, it actually made him even more enduring to me.
This book will draw you in from the very beginning. Be prepared to feel every emotion the characters do. Be prepared to cry. And be prepared to be surprised at how the three books tie to this one, in more ways than just the objects the girls found in the hope chest. Even the special basket makes an appearance, and I absolutely loved it!!! Please, please, please make sure you check out this book. But make sure you've read the first three books first. It'll be worth your while.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Let me begin by saying that you will need to have a quiet place to read without any interruptions because you will not want any interruptions and are goingto cry. Then you'll need time to process the incredible story of Mattie Fischer. . If you have read the first three books ( and if you haven't, I urge you to read them in order), you know that the Fisher girls have found a few unexplained items in their mother's hope chest. The girls have been curious and Mattie has been silent. At long last she shares her story with her daughters. I have been waiting for the fourth and final book in the Amish Heirloom series because I needed to find out exactly what her story is. I can tell you that it's one of the most moving stories I've read in quite sometime. Amy takes her readers back in time where we see Mattie and Leroy in their younger days and learn about the pain and loss that Mattie has experienced. I was glad to learn more about Leroy, too and loved him for his kindness and patience. He has loved Mattie since they were kids and has loved her through her darkest times and he will not allow her to push him away. Their story is both heart wrenching and beautiful. This was my favorite book in the series and though I'm sad to see it end, I loved the way it ended as the three previous books all fell into place. I will definitely want to read this series again and if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you do. Amy Clipston's books are written from the heart and with great depth making her my favorite author. I received a complimentary copy of The Beloved Hope Chest from the publisher and have given my honest opinion.
This is the fourth and final book of Amy Clipston's Amish Heirloom series. Wow, did this set of stories end in such a heartfelt way! While reading The Beloved Hope Chest, Mattie's story of loss and grief truly touched my emotions. Leroy's unwavering friendship and love are what I think most would want as their own. Mattie and Leroy were likable enough when I read about them in The Forgotten Recipe, The Courtship Basket, and The Cherished Quilt. But as their story unfolded in The Beloved Hope Chest I felt like I got to know and appreciate them so much more. It was also enjoyable seeing the ways their past played a part in how their children found true love.
I have read this entire series. The Beloved Hope Chest answers the questions to clues that were given in the first three books. It is a story of hope offered to one man's beloved that was given by God to one of His beloved. While we can't fully understand the ways of God, we can trust that He is guiding us through every good, bad, and in-between step of our lives. The characters in The Beloved Hope Chest discovered just that with the help of friends, family, prayer, and Biblical scripture. I recommend reading this story and the rest of the Amish Heirloom series. I was provided a complimentary review copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
I'll say right off that this book wasn't my favourite and I will explain myself in a minute. It was sad to finish this series and I'm sure I will be re-reading it soon because I do love it.
The reason it wasn't my favourite was that towards there is the constant repeated back and forth of "I miss you, Please come back home" and "No, I am not good enough. I can't be the wife you deserve". This annoyed me because it was repeated so often. Other than that my only fault with this book was that it was very sad. Sadder than all of the previous books.
I did enjoy it overall though! I really do recommend this whole series and you MUST read them in order!
I've been waiting for Mattie's story since the beginning of this series, since hints kept coming during her daughter's stories and I became more and more intrigued. This is the best of the series (which is saying a lot) and I am so sorry to see it end, although it has been a wonderful, hopeful ride. There is a lot of angst and emotion, but without that, the joy wouldn't be as intense when everything works out for the best, with Mattie and Leroy's family as living proof.
Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit quietly on your shoulder.
I have really enjoyed getting to the Fisher sisters and this one goes back in time to the sister's parents. Mattie has always guarded her hope chest and has never shared with her daughters the hidden keepsake that was a dark period in Mattie's life. The hope chest had given in the previous books something for each sister to learn and to hope for and each lesson was a lesson that their mother had learned early in her marriage to their father Leroy. Mattie shares with her daughters that she had been married before and had a baby that the girls knew nothing about.
Leroy had always "chased" Mattie. Always a friend to her when he desired more. Not wanting to ruin the friendship that they had, he never shared his feelings with her but he was always available to her. Leroy knew the heart ache of a love lost in many ways. A father that abandoned him and his mother and Mattie when she chose to marry another. However, when Mattie husband was killed in a violent shooting, Leroy steps up and offers Mattie marriage to be a father to her child and a husband to Mattie. The Amish take marriage seriously and the gift of sanctification in marriage.
In Mattie's grief, she is blinded by the love Leroy offers her. The way Leroy pursued Mattie and was attentive to her needs, reminds me how the great love of Jesus and how he pursues us. Mattie suffers a 2nd grief when the child she carries dies and the reason for her marriage to Leroy dies as well. It is during this period that Mattie run away from her marriage and wallows in her grief.
All during this book, I was the ugly crier. At work during break and when taking my ipad out to lunch. The pain of suffering alone and how we tend to isolate ourselves. The loss of community in death, the loss of a job, or a person we love can bring out cryfest in anyone. The characters are deeply felt even if we may not understand and appreciate the Amish ways, there is a sense of community that we all crave.
A Special Thank You to Thomas Nelson, Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
The Beloved Hope Chest by author Amy Clipston was a beautiful marriage of convenience story. This is a story that is full of heartbreak and grief, but more than that it is a story of unconditional love. Mattie Fisher has had her life turned upside down one too many times since the sudden death of her husband and now she finds herself married to her best friend Leroy Fisher, who has loved her from afar for so long. The road that they walk will not be an easy one as it is filled with unimaginable grief for this pair. This story is a tearjerker and I felt the author did a good job on describing the grief that this young wife and mother experienced.
This is the final story in the series An Amish Heirloom novels and it is the first one I have read. In fact it is the first book I have read by author Clipston and I am a new fan. I liked how this story started, as a mother begins to tell her three grown daughters of the love story between their parents and the rocky path it started on and how it almost was snuffed out. I really liked the character of Leroy. His perseverance to love his wife and to give her the patience and kindness she needed. He was such a patient and loving character. This story brought to my mind again, that except for going through our past circumstances we would not be who we are today with the blessings we now currently enjoy. This was a lovely story.
I received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.
I truly do not think I have ever given an Amish fiction book 5 stars. So this book is a first. But let me tell you. When you are sobbing your eyes out by the end, there is only one rating you can give!
For a first experience reading this author, I am amazed. Not only was this the book the 4th in a series I have never read, but i went against the grain and read it without reading the earlier books. Not my normal.
But this book definitely can stand alone. I know it is supposed to answers to the previous three books. It this one told a story all of its own. And now I REALLY want to go back and read the earlier books.
The story of Mattie and Leroy is one of unconditional love. Really it's an example of Gods love for us. How He loves us when we feel unloveable. Holds us when we are broken. Sends us messages and encouragement even when we are running away. And is there to welcome us back with open arms when we are ready to return.
This was a beautiful story. Simply beautiful.
*diaclaimer: I was given this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated in any other way for my review.
The Beloved Hope Chest is the culmination to the Amish Heirloom series by Amy Clipston. The series follows the Fishers, an Amish family living in Pennsylvania. The first three novels focused on each of the sisters. The Beloved Hope Chest tells the tale of the sisters' mother's history and secrets, which the previous books in the series eluded to. Readers learn how the girls' parents came together and formed their family. In traditional Amy Clipston fashion this story will not disappoint fans and will create fans from first readers.
The Beloved Hope Chest is a heartwarming book that addresses love, loss and how individuals react to facing tragedies in their own ways. After suffering through not one, but two, life changing losses, Mattie Fisher flees back to her safe place, her mom and dad's home. Mattie and Leroy Fisher process their grief and mesh of feelings the only way they can. Leroy continues to try to reconnect with Mattie through bringing her a basket with homemade treats and his emotions described in thoughtful letters but Mattie is concerned that she cannot possibly be the person he needs her to be after suffering through the losses. They find comfort in turning their troubles to God and praying for the guidance they are searching for but will it be enough and in time to salvage their marriage? A must read for fans of romance and Amish stories.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
BACK OF THE BOOK BLURB When Mattie packed er hope chest, she put away the heartache of her past. But as her daughters begin to unpack it, she discovers a healing more powerful than she ever hoped for.
Mattie Fisher's three daughters know that she's been keeping a secret from them. With each item pulled from the beloved family hope chest, they've discovered a new clue about their mother's past.
But there's a reason Mattie has been keeping her history hidden, and she's not sure she's ready to reopen old wounds. Will dredging up the past change the way her children view her? Or her marriage to their father? And can she handle the pain of revisiting the memories that preceded teh last few happy decades?
Mattie's story is one of grief and learning to love again. But like the best tings preserved in a hope chest, it's a story of love and redemption born out of heartache---and it's past time to share it.
MY REVIEW Oh what a tearjerker Amy has written this time. I had to make myself put it down at times, read LATE into the night so I could finish it today. This has been a very touching series. How many times have we blamed ourselves for things that happened but we know in our hearts we could not do anything different to change the outcome? Our lives are in God's hands, he will test us but he will see us through, if we can just hear him and follow where he leads us.

The Beloved Hope Chest is the fourth installment from Amy Clipston's Amish Heirloom series. In this final book of the series, a reader will find the heartbreaking story of Mattie Fisher. Mattie endures great loss when she loses her husband while she is carrying his baby. Grieving terribly and lonely, she receives a proposal from her childhood friend, Leroy. She accepts and they soon marry. The two faces more struggles they could ever imagine.
The Beloved Hope Chest is one of the most emotional Amish reads I have ever read. One of the losses the characters endure, I was able to relate to and I quickly needed to grab the tissues. Amy Clipston perfectly writes how true the emotions a person with experience during those times. In addition to the emotional parts, there are others that were tender and sweet. A wonderful story of how to continue to keep the faith in God and learn to forgive, letting go, and moving on.
Highly recommended
5+ stars.
I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild. I was required to give a favorable review. All thoughts are my own. This is a wonderful story of loss, grief, friendship, love, and new beginnings. Mattie & Leroy grew up together and he always that when they grew up Mattie would be his wife. But at a group gathering she met her love Isiah, and they all stayed friends. They were married two years & expected their first child when he was killed. Leroy stepped up and married Mattie to give the baby a father, because his walked out on him & his mother when he was young. He loved Mattie, but she was still grieving. But they started getting everything ready for the baby when she went into labor and unfortinely they lost the baby. Now she isn't sure she can be a good wife after losing 2 people in such a short time. Leroy tries, but he gives her time. She had packed everything away in her hope chest. And know her 3 daughters have questions about the things they find in her hope chest and she tells them the story. Which helped bring the 3 of them into the world.
Amazing series! I loved it! I enjoyed all of the books, but the third and fourth were my favorites because I thought they addressed deeper issues which I love in novels. I came away from this last novel thinking that sometimes what we want or think we need is and has been right in front of us all along, just waiting for us to grab it and claim it. It also has reinforced the lesson never, ever to take loved ones for granted because you never know when they'll be taken. I also loved the marriage-of-convenience aspect of this book because I love books with marriages of convenience. Thank you for another great series, Amy! I look forward to reading more
I liked this just fine, but for some reason I didn't LOVE it. Maybe I've just worn myself out on the series by cramming the last three books into a 2 day period! LOL! It was interesting to finally learn why the matriarch of the series was so secretive about what was in her hope chest. The romance felt a bit rushed at the end though. I don't know if the term "marriage of convenience" would be completely applicable here, but when the romance came later, it felt too rushed. It went from being non-existent to being everything in the span of a couple of hours.
Of all 4 books in the series, I liked Book 2, The Courtship Basket best.
SUCH a sweet story with vibes of "Love Comes Softly" (which I also really enjoyed).
I also really liked how all 4 of the books in the series fit together. The recipes, basket, and quilt are all used in Mattie's and Leroy's story and it was interesting to see where each of those items came from.
A really sweet story about finding a second chance at love.
This is my first book to read in this series, but what a great book it is. These characters and their emotions are so real and I never expected the trials their faced. A great read. *I received a complimentary copy of this book.*
When a beginning comes to an end, the end may very well just be the beginning. I remember writing this sentence on the last page of my final portfolio in college. In a few days, graduation will come and I'll be starting a new chapter. Why am I telling you this, and what does it have to do with a book review for The Beloved Hope Chest by Amy Clipston? Well, The Beloved Hope Chest may be the last installment of the Amish Heirloom series, but it is far from being the last or the end. You see, this story is just the beginning, at least for the Fisher family.
"He loved Mattie with all his heart. He hoped someday soon she would love him back." (108)
Amy Clipston had penned a story that reaches into our hearts and tug. Tug it does, and wrenched it did. Emotional, touching, poignant too, but also stirring a bit of something as well. And that something is love. As I continue on The Beloved Hope Chest, page by page, the following scripture pound on the back of my mind throughout.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
The grief Mattie felt was strong. The pain of lost immeasurable. Then there's the quiet understanding and patience of true love that awaits. Beautiful. It reminds me of the sacrificial love of our Savior, the forgiving love of our King, and the patient love of our Father. There's something invigorating about all that. It reinforce the meaning of true love.
"Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit quietly on your shoulders." (92)
The great thing about The Beloved Hope Chest is that you can read it first or even out of order. True, you might find out a little about the romance for Veronica, Rachel or Emily, Mattie and Leroy's daughters, but I think it'll give you a different insight as you read the others. Or you can read it as it was meant to be, the conclusion, because it does wrap things up, answering all the questions that you may have along the way with the other books in the series. Either way, you will not be disappointed. This series have truly captured by heart with the message of grief, love and patience. I'm a little sad that it has come to an end, but like what I mentioned at the start of this post, this may just be the beginning of something else.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
What a beautiful ending to an emotional series. This one really tugged at my heart and I believe it is the authors best book to date. She wrote with such compassion as the characters experienced pain, disappointment grief and loss of trust. When the hope chest is opened we are swept back to a time when Mattie was on top of the world. She slowly began to tell her story that had long been a secret . As the items from her hope chest are revealed her children begin to hear about their mom's past. Is Mattie ready to relive the past? Is the pain still fresh as she begins to share her memories?
Mattie was a woman in love . She had found the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. But in one instant everything changes for Mattie. She begins to realize her husband has been gone along time. He went to the bank but that was hours ago. A knock on her door will send her into despair and grief. How will she deal with the sudden death of her husband ? I loved how the author showed readers that Amish are just as vulnerable as anyone else when we go to public places. Mattie is told that her husbsnd died a hero but that doesn't make her pain any easier. What will she do now that she is alone and pregnant?
I have to say that Leroy was my favorite character. He is a very good , honest and caring man. He has known Maddie since they were kids. Leroy has always loved Maddie but stepped aside when her heart fell for another. He hates to see her in pain and decides to step in and marry her. He wants to do everything he can to help Mattie and the baby she is carrying. Will they be able to handle anymore tragedies? Will Mattie turn to Leroy for support? What a wonderful man Leroy is. He reminded me of my husband so much. We had a lot of problems through out early married life. My husband continued to stand by me and pray for me even when I hurt him emotionally. He showed me what unconditional love was and helped me find my way back to God.
This story is about forgiving, trusting God and letting go of the past. I loved how the author used a basket from one of the earlier books in the series. It will play a pivotal role in Mattie and Leroy's relationship. Throughout the book we see how hard it is for Mattie to let anyone in as she griefs . Do we push people away when we are hurting? Do we forget that God is there waiting to comfort us? One of the things I loved the most about this book was how Leroy would not give up. He knew that God had chosen Mattie to be his wife and he held on to that promise. I encourage you to grab some tissues as you read this emotional story of grief and unconditional love.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
