Rate this book
Eric Martin is a successful businessman, but he’s lonely, he’s stressed, and there’s something missing from his life. At least that is, until he meets Daryus at a conference. Daryus promises he can offer Eric all his fantasies come true. A second meeting at a bar one night, leads Eric through a door into a world where he suddenly finds himself as the ‘pony’ of groom Soren.

Soren is a groom of human ponies who is working off his debt to a demon by training men in pony play. He enjoys his work a lot and one day hopes to have a pony of his own as a reward for all the good work he’s done and to celebrate the payment of his debt. When Eric appears in his stall, Soren believes that day has finally come.

Eric can’t believe the stables he finds himself in are real. His pony fantasies are just that – fantasies. Not only that, he’s never shared them with anyone, so how could Daryus have known? Between Eric’s confusion and lack of experience, Soren has his work cut out not only training Eric, but convincing him that this is real and that Eric doesn’t ever need to go back to his old world.

With a little demon magic and a lot of care, Eric and Soren just might find everything they need to be both happy and together.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

I liked this, but it was essentially the same story as Pony Play written by the same author earlier, except there's a paranormal element added. The pony play and loving care of the groom for his colt is lovely, I personally feel that PONY PLAY was more successful emotionally. If you enjoy pony play, then this is a win for a loving expression and it's filled with the requisite SM loving and sweet talk or grunts. You just don't need to read both, because they're mirrors of each other.

Slow building but sizzling pony play (D/s erotic story)

The author frames a wonderful story of slow descent into a fully trained pony/servant mindset framed with a brief but nicely whimsical supernatural theme.

The core of the book is a relatively gentle but firm transformation of a needy, unhappy executive into his deepest fantasy, serving as a fully trained and cared for pony by a firm but attentive groom. The training highlights a less painful but still very Dominant/submissive side of BDSM than I find in most D/s fiction. In many ways this seems much more realistic (and true to my own experiences) than more typical harsh, painful, and/or brutally controlling BDSM fiction/erotica. The author includes a well-written but also step-by-step journey through the mechanics of becoming a pet pony, from light currying to full on, well-attached reins and finally to the ultimate in tail and cart play.

The emotions are seen through the Groom's eyes, fervently dedicated to mastering, dominating, and transforming his pony. One small weakness may be that the reactions from the submitting, bound man are generally physical (and at times very heated), but the story really isn't from the submissive pet's point of view.

In the end, the ultimate questions are asked, with a delightfully devilish touch to complete the story.

Sean Michael is one of my "go to" authors, but I am sad to say that this one didn't do as much for me.
I liked the middle part of the book about Soren and Eric Martin (his pony) and I was happy to leave them as a HFN if not a HEA, but the piece at the beginning about how Eric found his way from a sad lonely business executive into the Stables, and the piece at the end with the same characters, didn't do anything for me. We were obviously in a slightly alternative universe but the world building wasn't sufficient for me to understand what was happening and who was who, and I really didn't like the very last chapter when all of Eric's stuff effectively got stolen from him. It left me with an uncomfortable feeling - would people not notice he was missing, would there be problems, pain and anguish, it all felt very awkward. I love life changing d/s relationships, but ones where the outside world disappears and people have all their focus on one other person feels not only unrealistic, but also dangerous, especially for the sub.
Not sure if I will read anymore in this series, sorry.

3.5* Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.

Eric Martin is overworked, stressed and is seriously repressed when it comes to his own needs. When he meets a sexy stranger at a conference who hands him a business card and promises to fulfill all his wildest dreams, needless to say he doesn’t believe him. He’s curious though. Not finding much of anything on the website he was given, Eric mentally shrugs off the impulse to check further and goes on with his regular routine only to find he now has a serious problem. Days later when a now irritated and seriously sexually frustrated Eric runs into that same man, he demands answers…and finds himself somewhere he never once thought he’d be.

I really do enjoy a book with kink in it and as I’m not really all that versed in pony play, I figured this book would give me a good look at it. It was pretty obvious that Eric really needed some help to get in touch with his wants and needs as he was wound tighter than a spring about to pop. Most of the book revolves around Soren getting Eric settled into the role of being a pony and the training he’s put through. Things are understandably rocky in the beginning as Eric doesn’t understand how he came to be in the stables and he’s desperate to cling to anything that will give him a return to what’s ‘normal’. Soren is incredibly patient and does well calming down and introducing Eric to new things; with Eric so high strung, the calm that Soren practically exuded made them a good match.

I found the training interesting but the farther the story progressed, the more small time skips there were so that you don’t get to see everything Eric is being put through. I can understand the author not wanting to come off as too monotonous with giving every little detail, but since I’m mostly unfamiliar with pony play, I would’ve liked to have seen it all. My biggest complaint with the book actually has to deal with the part of the demons in the story. I think the little hint of paranormal involvement was interesting but that’s all you really get: a hint. It would’ve been really nice to have gotten some kind of explanation as to their role in everything or, at least, more than the tiny glimpse of one you get at the very end.

Overall I enjoyed the story though I was left with questions yet unanswered. (I’m hoping I might get more information as the series continues, however.) I found the premise interesting (with the demons and the wish fulfillment) and I’m really looking forward to finding out what kink the author introduces next. This was a nice little look at how pony play works so it that’s something that interests you, or if you just like kink of all types, this could be for you. It was a nice easy read that gave me a glimpse of something different and I’m sure I’ll read it again.

Your Dreams May Come True

This is a entertaining well written excellent read about a man who had everything a person could want and he was still unsatisfied. His fantasy is about to be his life and the way the author dealt with it was interesting. Enjoy I did.

As with every Sean Michael book, I loved it. Eric's transformation into what he truly desires to be was so well written. Soren is the perfect groom for him. I'd love to read more about Izzy and Daryus and their clients.

This one seems like an alternate reality/universe, with a bit of an Alice in wonderland type feeling. It was a cool look on a full time kink life

I have never read anything like this before, it was quite interesting. Although I don't get the whole pony play, I guess everyone has their kink. It was fun to read.

Good

This was a lot better than I thought it would be. I had fun with the story and the characters. It isn't a complicated story and could use a little more detail and length. A nice way, fun, kinky story.

Interesting twist...

A book totally out of my comfort zone, and it was amazing! An interesting twist on a relationship. This was such a beautiful story of two men giving each other what they needed most.

What if there were a place where all your deepest, darkest fantasies can be fulfilled? It doesn’t sound possible, and in our rational, logical world it could never happen – at least not on a permanent basis the way it does in ‘Mane and Tail’. In our world, most wishes only come true on a temporary basis and/or at a price that is prohibitive. But in the supernatural/magical world Sean Michael has created in what looks to be a very strange, very kinky world that is inhabited by demons and their servants, anything is possible.

Eric is a stressed-out executive who secretly dreams of a simpler life, so secretly in fact, that he does not even admit what he wants to himself. Then he follows the invitation of a strange man he met at a conference and walks through a door at the back of a bar and into a world he had no idea exists. Nothing makes sense to him at first: he is addressed as “pony”, a groom takes care of him and tries to help him adjust, and he is given a new name, his true pony name. And even though Eric has secretly imagined pony play and how it would make him feel, experiencing the reality of it is quite different. His emotions are all over the place, and it was fascinating to see the effect of what could be called brainwashing on his psyche.

Soren is in debt to a demon - not sure what that is for, exactly, not that it’s crucial – and he is working it off by training ponies, helping them find a groom of their own. Soren is excellent at what he does, and with a combination of patience and a love of the men under his care, he manages to become the best trainer in the stable. He sees his job as helping men understand and accept their deepest needs and truly wants to help. He also hopes to finally get a pony all his own – and when Eric appears, Soren knows he is the one for him.

As happy as both men end up being, I do think the price Eric pays is significant – he gives up the life he knows, a successful career, and what we’d call “normality”. Of course, that thinking is coming from someone who values freedom and free choice and has never imagined the things Eric clearly wants and needs. I found it fascinating to see Eric’s reactions and think Sean Michael did a great job describing his transformation. Basically, Soren summarizes who and what the men in this new world of Eric’s are very well: “We are not normal people.” Soren sounded very sure of that. “We know our deepest selves where our truest fantasies live and we follow them.” It’s a fascinating concept that is also more than a little scary.

If you like stories with more than a touch of the fantastical, if you enjoy worlds that are full of magic, sinful kinkiness, and almost over-the-top sexual fulfillment, and if you’re looking for a read that combines psychology and scorching man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novella. I look forward to more stories set in this world!

Getting your secret desires.

This is a strange and magical tale of one man getting the desires that he is afraid to voice. And the other getting the pony he's been waiting for.

Look, I'm no kink-shamer, but this really did nothing for me. I might have even laughed at some parts just from picturing it.
