A mysterious stranger has contracted with a disgraced merchant to steal a precious dragon egg or nestling. Fueled by greed and anger, the merchant steals one for the stranger and one for himself. When word gets around, a now grown Braidyn is determined to find the nestlings and the thief. One nestling is recovered with both Braidyn and the merchant learning a valuable lesson, but one remains missing. As he travels to the southlands in search of the precious nestling, he discovers another clan of dragon riders as well as a young woman who will change his life forever. Not only is she the thief, but her reasons are heartbreaking to hear. Little did Braidyn know his future may also have been stolen along with his heart for the beautiful Sarai.

Dragon’s Heir by Kandi J. Wyatt is another fabulous adventure for younger readers that will fill their minds with the magic of dragons, friendships found and worlds from far, far, away. Ms. Wyatt gears her writing to younger minds, and skillfully balancing age appropriate adventure with magnetic, exciting, fast-paced reading!

Today We Did
Ten years after Dragon’s Future, Braidyn is no longer a youngling, though he has not found his place in the world yet. After an altercation in the marketplace, a nestling is stolen and carried away to southern lands unknown to the riders. Braidyn is determined to recover the nestling and bring her home safely. He returns to Three Spans Canyon to ask Ruskya and Carryl to aid him on his journey. Together they fly out in search of the nestling. In the southern sandhills they encounter camps of dragon riders with very different customs. Their leader is drunk on power, with a cruel and greedy nature. Braidyn is offended by the leader’s treatment of his youngest daughter, Sarai, as he treats her like a slave. The beautiful Sarai is much stronger than she first appears though, and quickly captures Braidyn’s attention.

This is the second book in the Dragon’s Courage series. It was wonderful to step inside the dragon rider’s world again, and catch up with Duskya and Cerulean, Ruskya and Carryl, Kyn and Braidyn. It felt like hearing news of old friends. There were also many new characters to meet from between the arid sandhills, where the Agamid of the El’shad’n make their homes. I especially liked getting to know Sarai.

The whole book revolves around Braidyn, and his journey to find where he belongs in the world. He had become restless, so the quest to find the nestling came at just the right moment. It provided him with the opportunity to explore new lands and meet new people. We see him mature, and discover more about himself and his dragon, Turqueso.

The story is very plot-driven, and rolls along at a quick pace, with character development centred on Braidyn and Sarai. We also got to know some of the Agamid a little but not their dragons. I would have liked to see more of the dragons. They were mostly in the background as the drama unfolded among the riders. I did have a few moments of confusion as Braidyn, Ruskya and Carryl are referred to as “Northerners” but then when they return home, the fly south, perhaps I misread something there.

At first I was angry at Sarai for stealing a nestling, but as her motives were revealed that anger ebbed away, and I came to admire her. She was strong, determined and brave. The customs of her people dictated that all women are beneath men, and are nothing more than possessions to do with as the men please. Such appalling behaviour towards women, but Ya’cove took it a step further in the way he treated Sarai. He humiliated, degraded and tormented her, until she cracked. He was a most despicable character, and I greatly disliked him, he just felt slimey. Luckily, his sons Av’ior and Ye’sock were much better men, and open to change within the encampment for the betterment of its people.

There wasn’t as much action as I was expecting, but I still enjoyed the book thoroughly. There was only a couple of brief battle scenes where we got to see the dragons in action, though there were other moments of danger, so it was still very exciting. I read through it quickly, not wanting to stop at the end of any chapter, and it kept me engaged until the end.

Suitable for upper primary school students and up, Dragon’s Heir is a wonderful fantasy adventure. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! I want to know more about Kyn and what direction he will take in his life. I hope the wait’s not too long.

This book was as likable as the first but without many of the confusing aspects like too similar of names. It even answers some of the questions I had after the first finished. Character growth is more evident, but still a little too easy. These books revolve more around story than character.

I think it would be possible to read this one without having read the first but there are points where you might be a bit confused.

This novel - the second in the series - picks up ten years after the previous novel and follows Braidyn, the young rider who was previously orphaned and then chosen as a rider by the turquoise dragon Turqueso.

Braidyn's story is very much a coming-of-age story. He's not quite a full-fledged rider, but no longer a youngling, and he doesn't quite feel like he has a place with his mentor's family anymore. When the dragon nestling that is to belong to his mentor's daughter is stolen, he goes on a mission with some of our heroes from the previous book to get her back, and finds his place in the world along the way.

I very much enjoyed this installment in the series, and will definitely be coming back to it later on to re-read. Braidyn is arrogant at times, but is also likeable and relatable.

Dragon's Heir was a fantastic follow-up to the first book! In fact, I loved this more so than I did the first book.

This one follows Braidyn mostly, after Turqueso has chosen him as his rider, and after he lost his family, he was in search of one of his own, a place he could call home.

And although his journey sent him on a quest of justice to the person responsible for stealing a Nestling from the riders, what he found was something he never would expect: love, a home, and power.

I enjoyed getting to know a new rider, even though I loved our riders in the first book. I enjoyed seeing a different perspective and getting to know this one better.

There's plenty of action and unsuspected turn of events. This is definitely a must-read fantasy!

I really enjoyed this book. It was better than the first book in the series, not quite as confusing with the characters and their names. It was also easier that I'm more established with the two that have similar names after an entire book of them. The storyline was good, though there are still many foolish characters who don't seem to have much sense. I was rooting for characters and relationships, though some developing relationships I wish would have had more time to grow. The narration on the audiobook was a little bit better, but I did keep it at fast speed on my mp3 player, which seemed to help. Overall, I'm really enjoying the series and would like to check out the other books. =)

Dragon's Heir is a brilliant follow up to Dragon's Future. Honestly I've become so involved with the characters I feel so happy to see Braidyn grown up and a dragon rider in his own right. The imagery is vivid, and the story is well-paced. I greatly enjoyed watching Braidyn explore the world and his place in it while meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, and facing difficult decisions.

Dragon's Heir by Kandi J. Wyatt is the second installment of the Dragon Courage series. Ten winters have went by since the first book. Rider Braidyn and his dragon, Turqueso, have made a home, so to speak, in the town of Boeskay. He finds out that two nestlings have been stolen and he vows to find out who is responsible.

This is one of my most favorite series. I absolutely adore the characters that I have come to know. Kandi's ability to have family times included in her books is heartwarming. Her writing is smooth and flows wonderfully. This is a wonderful story for all ages.

For some reason. the narrator reminds me of a teacher reading to a class. I would also say this is a great middle school book.

This is very suitable book for the 11-15 age group. The story concerns a group of dragon riders on a quest to find a stolen dragon egg. They have many great abilities and their adventures are interesting. The characters are a bit one dimensional but show growth as the story moves along. The violence is very muted and the characters all learn from their mistakes. There is light romance and lots of action including dragon battles and sword fights. The names were a bit confusing as many were very similar. Overall, I will definition pass this along to my granddaughter.

Let me start by saying I enjoyed the story itself and look forward to the next installment in the series. However, I have to say that the dialogue early on in the story is weak and childish in nature. It improves as the book continues but for the first half of the story it is almost distracting. The story ties up too nicely very early, there is almost no intrigue. I found myself knowing what was going to happen before I ever got to the next part. There is also a glaring mistake with the time frame early in the story after a key event.

I enjoyed the story but wish the strong writing at the end would have been present in the beginning.

Once again Kandi Wyatt has written a book full of adventures and of course dragons. We meet up with Braidyn who is grown up and determined to locate two stolen nestlings. He manages to find one of them. When he tracks down the thief of the second one, and learns why Sarai took the nestling, things change. Braidyn learns much about himself and what he has been longing for. This is the sequel to Dragon’s Future. Both of these books are must reads, especially for those people who love fantasy, dragons and adventure.

Another fun filled adventure with our beloved dragon riders. This story obviously focuses on Braidyn and his journey in discovering who is he. I enjoyed it as much of the first book but was still a little disappointed with the character development. I was hoping for more depth and feeling from the characters.
Still an enjoyable adventure story especially for those dragon rider fans out there.

While classed as young adult novels, it's a long time since I was a young adult. I've really enjoyed the characters and story line. Kandi does a wonderful job of making you care about the people and dragons! I look forward to reading more of this series.
