Oh what a gem, what a find. Beautiful sunny day in London last summer, had days to myself to do what I wanted. One day I wandered about Primrose Hill, found the Plath/Hughes blue plaque house and on my way over to the park, strolled along the little high street and went into a small bookshop. There I found this original paperback with super penguin design from 1969 on sale for 1 pound. I had not read the Plath short story included, so that was a find and so pleasing to find it in her old neighbourhood. The Updike stories were really good as well, of course one is about adultery but there is a great one about an American literary figure traveling through Romania. Not heard of Litvinoff before, his stories are autobiographical tales of growing up in Jewish working class east end of London. Didn't like them, but interesting to hear of post war places of squalor in London that are now the provinance of Russian oligarchs and celebrities.

a great little series which introduced me to many writers. This one has Updike, Plath & Litvinov, though I can't seem to find my copy now.
