Wow, I was amazed at just how much effort went into some of these desserts, being more used to today's simpler versions of them. The text is close, which makes it quite difficult to read at times, but there are some gems hidden in here. I was struck by the richness of the 'war recipes' with their use of sugar - something most UK war recipes would curtail as it was rationed. I love cookery book for their social commentary as much as the food. A good way to learn what was going on where.
