I read Suzanne's first hormone book long after it was first published. It was groundbreaking at the time it was first published. She continues to break ground. I found the books she's written since her first bio-identical hormone book to be better, and reading them chronologically demonstrates her growth as both an author and a wellness advocate. Suzanne is always offering something new in the next book and she doesn't hesitate to tweak her course as she learns, which is why she is such a great wellness author! I like the practical approach of "8 steps" (2008 or 2010) so it is my favorite, even though there are more updated ones worth reading.

A few chapters of this book were good. I liked the information Suzanne provides about carbohydrates and how and what kinds of food fuels our bodies. I wrote down a lot of notes during those sections. Refined carbohydrates (white pasta and bread) are bad for you because they turn into sugar when digested, and then turn into fat. I thought that they just had no nutritional value. I have always liked whole wheat better than white. But now I understand why it makes you fat.

Suzanne talks about bioidentical hormones again, as she does in a few of her other books. I thought that they may be good if you could afford it. After reading this book, I don't agree at all. Suzanne says, "To me, having a period is a small price to pay for great health, increased vitality, and a slim figure." I disagree. God designed women to stop menstruating at a certain time in her life. This is not something man did; it is not because of the environment or chemicals in our food. It is natural.

Suzanne does a great job of describing in lay person's terms complex medical information related to stress on the body (including cortisol, the stress hormone) and sugar. A little handbook with just those two chapters would have made me happy. Very nice job breaking down these topics so we understand them. Strongly suggest everyone read the chapter on the evils of sugar! The rest of the book may please some, but personally, other than the recipes, I was done. The Suzanne-trademarked "Somersize" program, and filler of personal photos and antecdotes were not up my alley but for those who need structure to execute on improving their diet and stress, it should be helpful. She is a likeable person and her care and personal touch infuse the book throughout.

Cute book, didn't match my age category, but I think I know the person who would appreciate it.
