4.5 star!! I think I liked this one even more than the first time I read it.
God I am just adoring these short little romances by Jenny Wood. I love how each story is a standalone but we get to catch up with past characters as they are all close friends. This one packed an emotional punch but was so sweet and hopeful.

*** This is a lovely, emotional romance. *** On the cover we have Lane, firefighter who loves his job. He is moving on from finding his boyfriend/fiancé screwing someone else in their bed.
He wants a "one and only" kind of love.
Kevin is a Lawyer who advocates for children's rights and adoptions.
He's got green eyes and dark blonde hair, and very low self esteem in social situations, because his mother was verbally abusive, and he's been drugged and raped in college. He longs for a man to love, and have a real, solid normal life. He and Lane have met each other previously, but now they have a chance to get together at a party.
Wonderful characters, an interesting story that will engulf you, and their sex is super steamy. Because Kevin can't remember what happened to him years ago, it will be his first time with everything. Lane is the perfect man for Kevin. He's patient, caring, and smitten by the shy Kevin. They hang out, talk, and slowly have their sweet romance. Meanwhile Lane's sister shows up on his doorstep pregnant and a mess, she doesn't want her baby. She's a real tornado of chaos. We have passion, devotion, and a hopeful future for our men.
Kevin's past is so sad, and you'll be glad these two found each other. Great ancillary characters, too ! A surprise twist upsets all the plans in place, and you'll be riveted.
I highly recommend this M/M story !! ENJOY !!!

Can be read as a stand-alone. The guys from the previous books do play a role in this, but they are all just friends who show up.
The grammatical errors seem to get worse with each book, but if you can ignore that, they’re quite enjoyable.
I think this is my least favorite so far. I can do cheesy, but this was cheeeeeeeeeeeeesy.
“You like bein’ my baby, Kevin?” He whispered against my lips just before he ravaged my mouth. I loved being anything to him; I wanted to be everything to him. “What does my baby want me to do?”
This has the same kind of formula as the previous book, except it was just not as good.
Lane is a firefighter friend of Alvin (book 1), and Kevin is a friend of Teddy (book 2). Lane is big, muscular, protective and sweet and Kevin is smaller, shy and awkward. The two like each other, there is some hurt/comfort thrown in with Kevin being raised to think he is worthless and ugly. And there is some family drama with Lane’s pregnant sister, who doesn’t want the baby.
Liked it, didn’t love it.
I’m still going to read the shit out of the rest of this series. I can’t get enough.

This story has a similar formula as its predecessors, especially in terms of character dynamics. We have another fast-moving romance between one big, strong and masculine fire-fighter (Lane) and one shy, awkward and inexperienced lawyer (Kevin). Their romance is sweet and simple, with endearments that start flying after the first kiss and promises of forever that follow soon after. I usually have to suspend disbelief to jump on the insta-love train, but I find myself really enjoying how it keeps playing out in this series.
Unfortunately, I still really struggle with the writing itself. There are quite a handful of grammatical snafus along the way and the use of proper punctuation is all over the place. One of my major issues is the incessant use of semicolons, mainly because they are unnecessary 80% of the time. If you can look beyond the technical problems, that’s great, but it definitely won’t be the kind of writing quality that is enjoyed by everyone, so be warned.
On the plus side, every time I open one of these books, I find myself unable to put them down until I’ve demolished the entire thing (usually in a day). That’s always a positive reaction, and I continually find myself eager to move straight on to the next offering to find out what’s in store for all these lovely characters. So, although I sometimes struggle with the writing, I constantly enjoy the plot and the characters that Jenny Wood has created – enough to bring me back for more.

Unfortunately, Lane and Kevin weren't my favourite Unlikely Heroes :(
I didn't feel such chemistry between them as I did between Alvin and Carter and Josh and Teddy . I liked Kevin very much, even in book 2, although we didn't see much of him, but he helped Teddy a lot.
Kevin and Lane were nice and perfect for each other but their story was too "neat".
The whole Cammie drama was a little bit too "convenient" for the plot to my liking and the resolution of...
Nevertheless, I still liked book 3 of Unlikely Heroes and I'll definitely continue with the series... ;)

The story is kind of sweet and I liked both MCs... but it is in serious need of some major proofreading and editing. Spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes galore prevented me from fully enjoying this book. I spent more time mentally correcting the mistakes than I did getting into the story.

This was my favorite one yet of the series but man! It sure was emotional. Another ugly cry on tap.
It was low angst relationship wise. I was afraid Kevin would be too emotionally scarred but he wasn't. His flashbacks to his childhood were horrible and I actually wanted to kill a fictional character, his mother. Thankfully Lane was just what he needed. And they both got a sweet little surprise in the end.

This one isn't my favorite, but I'm glad I read it again. I love this series so much.

I can't get enough of these boys. I love them. However, this book faltered a little bit with my expectations. This one had a lot more editing errors and it brought me out of the story. The writing style still threw me too, but too many errors for me look past.
Kevin's past was too sad, but I actually didn't like Lane. Not sure why. Just not a fan of his.
Also, I'm noticing the trend of "baby" and "shoving their noses in the others necks to bring calm and peace". Do they all have to do the same thing? Can't there be differences between the MC's in this series? I don't know.

So, we met Kevin who was Teddy's lawyer and family friend in book 2 and we meet Lane who's friends and co-workers with Alvin at the station right? So.... here's a little more about them...
Lane, after catching his fiance in bed with another man, decides to leave him and the place they shared together to a tiny little town in Massachusetts... He's lonely and a little bit bitter but he hasn't so much as even looked at another man since he left; even if he is feeling slightly jealous because all of his friends are loved up and moving on in life in a happy way....
Now Kevin.... Kevin is sweet and shy and has terrible self-esteem thanks to his mother and the way she treated him growing up.. Come on', you didn't think I'd let the story go on without a tortured soul that needed healing did ya?
Well; he's been around Lane a time or two and of course finds him attractive but he's so shy and awkward that he usually can't bring himself to even talk to him for more than a minute let alone show any real interest....
Seeing each other at Josh and Teddy's housewarming party and a little too much to drink, Lane makes his intentions very clear when he asks Kevin out... BUT... a brand new start to a relationship and a hot mess of a sister and Lane is wondering if it's all too much for someone else to stick around for, especially if it isn't their drama.... Will it work out?... Of course it will, I don't do sad endings but the road to get there is a sweet one.
Get ready for hilarious shenanigans from all our Unlikely Hero's and enjoy the ride!

My heart broke for Kevin and I really felt for Lane as well, especially in regards to his sister.
She was a bit of a mess but she was still his sister.

Kevin ist ein brillanter Familienanwalt, doch außerhalb des Gerichtssaals ist er scheu, unsicher und versucht nicht weiter aufzufallen. Dabei sehnt auch er sich nach einem Partner und Liebe. Doch Liebe hat er nie erfahren. Seine Mutter hat ihn immer wieder zurückgewiesen und sein Erzeuger war nie existent. Einzig seine Tante steht ihm nahe. Doch irgendwie hat Kevin seinen Weg gemacht, auch wenn sein Leben abseits der Karriere sehr einsam ist.
Auch Lane ist einsam. Ein Jahr nach dem Bruch mit seinem betrügerischen Verlobten ist er aber bereit wieder einen Menschen in sein Leben zu lassen. Kevin kennt er über Freunde und er fühlt sich zu dem Anwalt hingezogen. Allerdings ist Kevin sehr distanziert und scheint kein Interesse zu haben. Doch stille Wasser sind tief und Lane nimmt all seinen Mut und seine Erfahrung zusammen um Kevin doch für sich zu interessieren. Aber Lane muss sich auch mit einem familiären Notfall auseinandersetzen, der sein Leben auf den Kopf zu stellen droht.
Die Geschichten dieser Reihe verlaufen immer nach dem gleichen Prinzip. Starker Hero triff auch schüchternen Sonderling. Allerdings gelingt es Jenny Wood bei jedem Paar Eigenheiten herauszuarbeiten, die die Helden besonders machen. Vor allem dürfen die Heros auch mal schwach sein und der vermeintliche Part – in diesem Fall Kevin – durchaus über sich hinaus wachsen. Und Kevin wird schnell mehr für Lane, obwohl Lane im Verlauf der Geschichte eine ziemliche Bürde zu schleppen bekommt. Aber Kevin erweist sich eben zu diesem Zeitpunkt als der richtige Kerl für Lane und beweist immer wieder Umsicht und Stärke, die man ihm zu Beginn der Geschichte so gar nicht zugetraut hat.
Gegen Ende hin wird es noch einmal richtig dramatisch und traurig, auch wenn der Verlust einer Person irgendwie vorauszusehen war bzw. für mich war es auch ein erlösende Ende und bestimmt eine Erleichterung – vor allem für Lane. Aber mehr Spoiler möchte ich nicht verraten. Nur soviel – es gibt natürlich ein HEA!

I don't like when an author introduces a character in one story then changes them in the next and that's what I think happened with Kevin. I'm Teddy's book he's described as appearing confident and put together it's also implied that he was close to his Aunt. In this book he is much more damaged and the relationship with his Aunt doesn't seem strong at all. I had to forget the Kevin I thought he was in order to enjoy this book. Over all it's an easy read with a happy ending.

Lane is a confident firefighter and Kevin is shy family lawyer. Each helps others who are suffering from bad situations in their lives. Both are lonely and looking for love. Lane does the chasing but wins over Kevin. There is tragedy with Lane's twin sister but the book brings a HEA to both our heroes. A charming addition to the series.

Insta love scenarios ruins it for me every time
Hate the insta-love between the main characters and the convenient instant family but I truly enjoyed this sweet tale of falling in love with the (a little bit damaged) right person.

I enjoy these stories, even with the writers idiosyncrasies like saying done instead of did all the time. My know comment would be that now, after 3, its a little groundhog day and feels like the exact same story over and over with different names.

There is just so much wrong with the writing/editing that it made it difficult to enjoy. I had the same problem with the first two, but with book 8 just being released I decided to give this series another shot. I don’t think I will be continuing. I’ll just be waiting for more Kennedy Ink...

This story makes me cry every time i read it. Kevin needs a hero to show him the love he’s never known. LN needs a hero to show him true love without heartache and lies. Together they heal, and become dads together. I’m in love with this story.

I liked the story, but the writing was horrible. This author never met a semicolon she didn't like. They were used frequently and randomly throughout the book! The overall punctuation and sentence structure were abominable. A good proofreader was definitely needed.

I loved this book. I shed a lot of tears but it was so worth it in the end. This is a well written storyline with well developed characters. I am looking forward reading the next book.

I am LOVING this series! It’s absolutely what I need right now because it is full of all the warm fuzzies a person could ever want!
In book 2, we meet Lane and Kevin at the arson investigation surrounding Teddy’s house fire. Kevin is a family lawyer and Lane a fireman. We learn that they are both attracted to one another but haven’t done anything about it yet because they have past histories that make them a bit wary.
My heart absolutely bled for Kevin. His story is SO SAD! I think verbal abuse is one of those less recognized problems because it doesn’t leave any obvious physical scars but the emotional ones are just as devastating, maybe more because it’s not recognized or stopped, so often. I was also crushed by his “celebrating the BAR exam” story and was really pleased at how that got explained to Lane early on.
One thing I appreciate about this series is the turn around our MCs make fairly early on. We get their back-story but then we see them on the path to healing fairly quickly. My poor heart can’t stand to see them in pain, and it’s wonderful to see them helping one another through their issues.
Another thing I appreciate about this series is the smexy times. There is just the right amount of sexual tension and on page sex scenes to keep me feeling fulfilled without me feeling like the sex is just filler. (And it’s usually pretty HOT!)
I can’t wait to move on in the series. I reviewed book 4 here: http://openskyebookreviews.com/the-on... , but I’m gonna re-read it so I can look at it with new eyes! Then on to book 5!
There are still a few editing and grammatical errors, but I think the writing is excellent and the stories are sublime! 4.5 of 5 stars
