Hi, I'm Liz Fielding, and I'm a best selling contemporary romance author with more than 15 million books in print and Katie Fforde wrote, when honouring me with the Romantic Novelists' Association's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019 said - "Liz Fielding's books, with their warmth, humour and emotion, have charmed millions of readers. She is a true star of the romantic fiction genre..."
And now I've turned to a life of crime with my first cozy mystery. Murder Among the Roses, published on 18 April 2023 - of which Katie Fforde also said, "I was gripped from beginning to end..."
Reading is a big part of my life. I love witty, contemporary romances, not too much sex,, Women's fiction by the likes of Fiona Harper, Julie Cohen, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie and Barbara O'Neal. And I love crime fiction that isn't too gory, or focussed on clue hunting, but is big on character.
My best loved series at the moment are the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths, The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch and the Libby Sarjeant Mysteries by Lesley Cookman. I've just read the first in the Georgina Drake crime series from Kate Hardy and looking forward to the next.

This was a really sweet boss secretary romance. Jilly is a girl from Newcastle (on Tyne not in Australia). She has really fast shorthand, but she doesn't fit the image of the Garland Girls prestigious secretarial agency. But Amanda, the head of the Garland Agency is desperate. She's been sending all her most attractive secretaries to work for her brother, hoping one will spark his interest.
Max is still recovering from an accident that injured him but took the life of his wife and best friend. He's a shell of his former playboy self, wracked with guilt. When the plainish Jilly turns up, he thinks at first his sister is playing a trick on him, sending a frumpish secretary with glasses and a pile of unruly hair. It doesn't take long for him to realise that Jilly is the real thing.
This is a story that is based on a misunderstanding. You may groan all you like, but it kind of works here. Jilly has decided to move to London to improve her options, but also to catch up with a school friend who has made it big as a radio, and now television star. A male friend.
Max finds this strangely disturbing, but his determination to help out Jilly, leads him to stop being a reclusive, hiding himself away and feeling sorry for himself. He's even willing to put on his old playboy persona in order to squire Jilly around to attract her old friends attention.
Naturally we can guess what will happen. A totally sweet story with none of the OW drama you often see in office romance.
Somewhat dated and the third act breakup was so obviously ridiculous and down to miscommunication - but nonetheless I enjoyed it but it is amazing how social mores have changed in the last quarter century. I found the age gap a bit icky. We never learn exactly how old amaz is but he’s certainly into his thirties if not older.she is 20 and at times she behaves like a mature adult on her late twenties and at other times like a 15 year old. Nonetheless, Imenjoyed it as LF is such a good writer.
3.5 Stars The OW in this book was not a evil but a sad person that married the H that loved her beyond reason for money because she needed it, then she fell in love with the OM,his best friend although she cheated on the H emotionally, she and the OM didn’t cheat physically. My problem is the OW should be the heroine of the book and not poor Jilly that was much more far than to be the second best. The love that the H felt for the OW is the love made of legends, what he felt for the heroine it is not near one tenth what he felt for the OW. He try to help the heroine to get the unworthy OM, knowing that the OM was a piece of work, his excuse is that he learnt his lesson from the past and try to do the right thing in the present. I don’t see the passion that he should feel for the heroine, if he really loved with passion he would try to fight for her and not let her to go to a weasel OM. He pushed her in the OM direction but the OM just used her in the past and the present and has his own OW. The love that Max felt for the OW is so strong, that I just remember 2 or 3 Hs that felt this way towards the heroines. Most of them don’t really love the heroine the way they should. For Christ sake, he tried to take his own life or stopped to want to go on in living just so he can get the OW free to pursue her happiness with her OM, the OM beliefs or religion didn't permit that he married a divorced woman, I guess that his love for the OW is not that strong. Thank God, the OW was a good person after all and she asked the help of the OM to try to save the H, in doing so, they both died and the H suffered so much and felt so guilty. I think if he had a crystal ball and see what events would occur, he would just give her money to help her instead of blackmailing to marry him. With Jill I believe he would have contentment, happiness in his life because she loved him, but his love for her would never in a hundread years measure to the love he felt for the OW.
A beautifully written modern take on Pygmalion in which widower Max, in both physical and emotional pain a few years after the death of his wife in a skiing accident, meets feisty temp secretary Jilly from Newcastle.
I really enjoyed a lot of things about this book. Jilly is an absolute gem - feisty, funny, forthright and kind. Max has been a recluse but shakes himself out of his stupor to try and help Jilly get the man he thinks she wants although he is falling for her herself. But he puts what he thinks is Jilly's happiness first
Some misunderstandings ensue of course which are a bit silly but then frankly Max for an incredibly intelligent man isn't that bright emotionally, after all he blames himself for the situation that arose with his golddigging wife and the man she loved when it wasn't really his fault at all, as noted by his sensible housekeeper Harriet.
Fortunately with a little help from Max's sister (whose story is next in The Baby Plan) everything is sorted out and Jilly helps Max to live - and love - again.

Ide ceritanya standard aja sih.
Cerita ringan, namun indah.
Plusss...
Beautifully written. The H has a little bit of a backstory which is slowly revealed. You can see the emotions he is going through because the author gave us bits of his inner monologue now and then, and I love H POVs. My fav part was the fact that the H already felt something for the h basically the second he first met her as a rather dowdy, unglamorous temp secretary. The h was a bit misguided in her teen love sure, but she gets out the crush soon enough and it is clear that she has fallen for the H but keeping quiet about it. I felt bad for the
The ending was a sweet HEA, and their was no love scene itself but the chemistry was blowing hot. Liz Fielding has a way with words. You can see the internal anguish of the H for the h all over. Def recommend.
I received a paperback copy of this book from the author and I had to read it again. I enjoyed it even more than before, since now I can read it again and again - I own a copy! Yes! For those who did not read this book, I heartily recommend it: it's witty, easy to read and characters are clear and relatable.
