So yeah Rebirth so DC reboot for everyone, this one is obviously for Supergirl. She has lost her powers so she is launched to the sun to try to restore her powers. As always for Cryptonians a villain from phantom zone arrives so smash things around and Kara talks the monster down. Ah well, let's find out more.

I have always loved comics, and I hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

Supergirl has lost her powers and the D.E.O helps her get them back. At the same time, this Kryptonian monster shows and suddenly it's go time.

I had a thought while reading this comic that whenever the heroes aren't really around, not too much goes on. But the second they announce themselves, would you look at that, a monster has appeared.

Not much happened in this comic. This was nothing more than an introduction for Supergirl and the people she plans to work with to keep the good guys safe and fight the bad guys.

I was introduced to Supergirl via the TV Show so I knew nothing about her beforehand. It was really something else for me to see her as a teenager who's barely been on Earth long enough to know all the ins and outs.

The writing was really good and this was only 24 pages but I barely felt it. I flew through it that fast. The artwork was gorgeous and I can't wait till I read the Supergirl series.

Fun, action packed but light-hearted kickoff...

I've been meaning to get back into reading DC and the Rebirth series gives me a new in..

I started with Supergirl because I was never a fan of Superman and wanted to see how she might differ as a character - does she struggle with the same decisions and how does she handle it..

The artwork is gorgeous - though this is expected of the newer more digitally-oriented DC releases - I especially like the design of the characters both Director Chase and Supergirl as well.

Looking forward to seeing where this will go...

Actual rating: 3.5 stars.

Not bad at all, and I think the main line will be better/get higher stars, but I don't know anything about New 52 Kara, so I dont know why she didn't have her powers or why she had only been on Earth for a few months (weeks?). Not the comics fault, but I just can't justify rating it higher.

Honestly this was a pretty good set of comics. The art was pretty decent and it offered a nice introduction to Supergirl. The volume here contains a story in full, which is developed decently enough for you to get to know the characters and Supergirl's background. It has pretty decent action and drama.

Interesting kick off! I haven't read too much of Supergirl, my only knowledge is mainly from the CW show. I can't wait to read the rest and figure out what I'm missing!

I love it. I am getting to start over with all my comics. I watch the show but wanted to go back and see what happens before all that. I love the illustrations and how she kicks butt.

Disappointing. This is the first Rebirth trade I've read, and while inoffensive and okay, it really missed the high standard set by the Supergirl TV show. The elevator pitch is that it's TV Supergirl as a teenager, with all of the stuff happening in her adult life transposed to the life of a teen. While a great concept, this goes straight for one of the more confusing parts of Superman lore: the Cyber Superman. This may be a matter of personal preference, but I really do not like the vast majority of Krypton-inflected/inspired stories at all. This isn't bad but it's so forgetful that it really bummed me out. Why go for the deep continuity dive combined with the ideas, but not tone, of the TV show? If you're going to take parts of TV Supergirl, take the irreverence, the light-hearted wit and the positive "Yes We Can!" attitude. Going for anything else bogs down the potential humor and leaves a bad taste. I wish this were more fun, because the best Supergirl stories I've read are about her balancing the different elements of her life, not the minutiae of her backstory.

Even with that said, it's possible my expectations for Supergirl are tinged with an inadvertent sexism. Do I just want her to be in slice-of-life superhero stories because she's a female hero? I don't think so. It would probably serve the entire DC line best if they cared more about the personal & interpersonal and less about the continuity. I want this story to succeed, but in it's current form it's not super inspiring. One last thing- just give these characters all-women creative teams! I can guarantee it would yield a much better long-term product.

My first introduction to the world of Supergirl was the TV show. The first season was great while the second season slowly went downhill for me where I eventually gave it up. In between the two seasons I had picked up the New 52 comics. And while, like the second season, they started great, it slowly went downhill as well. This brings us to the Rebirth comics. In this volume, we see a Supergirl story very reminiscent of the first season of the show. Personally, I found this to be a good thing. I like the idea of a young teenage Kara trying to come to bearings of living on earth. I also liked seeing the relationship developing between her and her foster parents. One thing I could have liked to see handled better was Cat Grant. She reminded me of everything I hate about Cat, particularly at the beginning of the show, without any of the charm or world-class advice. The art was also good, a bit cute, and seemed to serve the purpose of the story. All in all I enjoyed this volume and I'm excited to see where it goes next.

Peculiar visuals and an inspired but bland story mark yet another comic book reboot character who writers struggle to bring to life.

This new version of Supergirl is the latest comic book interpretation of the character. She shares a number of qualities with the CBS/CW Supergirl TV show such as working for Ms Grant, working for the DEO and her adopted parents. Sadly, where the show wisely makes Supergirl a young 20 something and adds the Sisters dynamic, this comic chooses to make her a teen and an only child.... and it suffers for it. The story is passable and uninteresting and lacks a lot of the character that endeared the on screen character to audiences

The art is similarly uninspiring and jarring to the eye. It is increasingly mind boggling that more and more comic artists seem to struggle with human anatomy. Thankfully the colour artist saves us from the visuals with an assortment of visually captivating colours that would make great art pop and sub par art like this, pass.

Overall, if you are a HUGE fan you might like this, it’s passable but hardly remarkable.

First of all - it isn't bad. Like all other DC Rebirth comics, this one begins with a lot of promise. I don't really like the way Emanuela Lupacchino draws faces, but I guess that's personal. Artwork itself is OK. Not the best one among the DC Rebirth, but OK. The problem is - it's kind of... boring. Most of the time this one just tells us about the way thing work in Supergirl's world. In a boring recap way. And aside from that there's only a very generic story development. You know, Argo City, Phantom Zone... Imagine the most generic Supergirl stuff and that'll be it. I like the mood, I like the way it looks (aside from faces, yes), there's a lot of promise, but this exact issue is really boring and uninspiring.

By this point, the world had gone through a full season of the Supergirl TV show. So it'll be interesting to see how much the show may have influenced this, given the TV show would be many people's perception of the character. She does go with the Kara Danvers name here, though she appears to be in high school.

Loved, loved the art and the plot is good and fun. Took some elements from the tv series (the DEO, Catco etc) and worth the read. Looking forward to read #2

Maybe this is my own fault, but Supergirl really isn’t a character I’m familiar with. I found this issue a bit disjointed and a little dull if I’m honest. Maybe it’ll improve in time?

A solid start. I like the thread of positivity and hope in Supergirl, and the battle with her father was a good way of cementing her place on Earth.

A lot to take in! I am assuming from some lines that all of New 52 (from when Kara arrived anyway) only lasted a few months? Because they reference her New 52 origins and state its been only a few months since her landing in Siberia and even less since Superman's death. (So will they write Superman back in with Rebirth?) Although I also thought New 52 Kara was slightly older - she mentions graduating in Last Daughter of Krypton, but perhaps Kryptonians graduate at 16 instead of 18? (Also, Director Chase, I'm fairly sure any Earth school would be remedial for a Kryptonian about to graduate, whatever her age.)

I do like Eliza and Jeremiah and the CBS/CW spin added into the comics, though they're significantly younger looking than the Berlanti 'verse version and Eliza is an agent rather than a scientist. And sadly it seems, no Alex. (Why keep Eliza and Jeremiah without Alex?)

The art is stunning. I love Kara's look so much. (And thank god, if they are continuing based on New 52 the outfit is also reflective of Superman/Berlanti's show rather than the red crotch leotard.) Though, apparently she wears her costume even under a seemingly tight space suit? Her fight scenes are particularly gorgeous. Also digging how they put her in yoga pants for high school. She's adorable!

Director Chase is hot (corsets at work? Yes!) and pretty funny. I know she's not new in comics so I can't wait to go back and read more of her stories.

I wonder who the goth girl in the background is? I thought Livewire based on her look, but unless they're completely rebooting Batgirl of Burnside as well, Livewire is already established as having her powers and being contained.

But basically: KARA. I've waited so long for this Rebirth launch and I am in LOVE.

'Supergirl: Rebirth #1' by Steve Orlando with art by Emanuela Lupacchino is another first issue where the story begins somewhere else. It seems the DC Rebirth is a new beginning of sorts, but follows prior storylines.

In this case, Superman is gone. His cousin Supergirl has lost her powers, but she now works for a strange organization called D.E.O. in order to have them restored. This means she is set up with an Earth mother and father, and goes on missions whenever her handlers want. Which is all good until Lar-On from Krypton shows up. He's a frightening and disoriented werewolf kind of creature and it will take all of Kara's powers to stop him.

I liked it. The art is really good. Lar-On is drawn especially well. I don't know much of what went on before this, but it looks promising and interesting.

I received a review copy of this issue from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this comic book.

2.0 - Supergirl’s Rebirth issue is very by-the-book.

It introduces her supporting cast, explains her history and powers, gives her a monster-of-the-week to chase, and introduces a longer-term threat.

I found the execution a bit pedestrian, especially focusing so heavily on a bloodbath on the ground on Earth to get Kara back from space quickly without much consequence for any character.

The issue should have opened with her already bursting out of the sun, not only to speed along the plot and give more room for the personal scenes at the end, but because Emanuela Lupacchino is one of the best pencillers in comics and delivered the best splash of all of Rebirth.

3.5/5

Having never read a Supergirl comic before (though always wanting to), this was definitely enjoyable.

That said, it also wasn't particularly amazing. I'll stick with it for now, and hopefully it grips me more. At the very least I'll read the first arc as a trade, just because I have always wanted to read Supergirl.

I'm excited to see where this new rebirth series goes. As I was reading there were ads for other rebirth series and I'm really rooting for DC on this one. I can see they are taking an approach that is geared more towards the tv show which I'm not complaining about. Interested to see where this goes!!
