I didn't like the teacher's story, Hara.

There is no beauty in this book. Hara was in love with Sajou from the previous installments, a crush he has not surpassed yet. Then his first love from his years at school (who was a teacher, and an asshole, mind you) makes an appearance to put things upside down. And Hara still hasn't gotten over. (I see a certain M.O. from a trauma in the childhood here).

Suddenly this 15-year-old boy, Sorano, comes to school, and he loves Hara so much he manages to organize a date for Sajou (who is happily partnered with Kusakabe, thank God) and Hara. Then he takes care of Hara when he meets his old love from his youth.

Hara is an immature adult, yes, but also a selfish person, and a worse teacher. He's supposed to set an example, to have his shit together, to have certain limits he cannot cross. But no, he's just the opposite, he's a mess in every sense of the word: sentimental, professional, without a basic range of sensible values every person should have in order to live in a healthy society.

I couldn't fathom for the sake of it why would Sorano waste himself in someone like Hara, and how in the future he wouldn't see Hara as the loser he really is and dump him someday. Nobody can be THAT blind forever. Hara, on the other hand, isn't even decent enough to push Sorano aside for good, which made him even worse in my eyes.

The wonder I felt in the first 3 books was dimmed here. Only Sajou's and Kusakabe's scenes were worth it.

My review of the whole series

Hara sensei is a creep because he got crushes on little boys and cant put boundaries. As an adult he should know better but he's just immature and selfish.

Kudos to Asumiko Nakamura for making me buy into one of my least favorite tropes, the student/teacher romance.

I was dreading this volume lol. I started reading it so long ago and then decided to just wait for it to release in English and still didn't pick it up when my preorder came. OB finally came out though and that's going to bring back Kusakabe and Sajo so I had to sit down and finish this one. I couldn't just skip it either because my brain wouldn't let me.

This volume follows Hara, the creepy teacher that had a crush on Sajo. According to the author's note people wanted to see him get a happy ending? Not me. I would've rather he didn't show up again. Well this time Hara has a new teen to romance! Age difference being 22 years (37 & 15). Sora is the pushy one in the relationship though, because Hara is adamant about the fact that he doesn't touch his students. (Guess he didn't try to kiss Sajo in the volumes before? Hm.) But it's about Hara moving on from his previous unfulfilled crushes and developing a romance with this new kid. The teacher Hara had a crush on also makes a comeback, but things don't move forward with them because he also has a new teen to hook up with. Blegh.

I think a rekindled relationship with Hara and his teacher would've been better. It would've made more sense and been less creepy. Sure Sora's the one that makes all the moves and Hara says he won't acknowledge him until he's an adult, but Hara clearly looks at teens in that way which is gross. I'm pretty sure his friend even made a comment about him "liking the young ones." Idk I can get behind *some* teen/adult age gap romances, but only in specific circumstances. Like yes it's fiction, but it just feels skeevy yknow? It's too predatory for me to agree with and it also doesn't offer any sort of commentary that would make me like this as problematic fiction. It's just meant to be a simple romance that I'm supposed to be okay with? And it's not even that good or interesting as a romance!

Beyond the age gap, this just wasn't interesting. I didn't really care about the romance or conflict. There wasn't anything that I thought was cute. I was mostly bored and it's probably because I just don't care about Hara as a character. As a story this isn't as good as the rest of the series. I'm glad to finally have this over and done with though so I can dive into the next volume and see Sajo and Kusakabe living their best lives together. :')

Why...Why...oh why I waited this long to read this manga. Well, maybe because I was not too fascinated with the art style. But then, Nakamura Asumiko sensei's art is not the typical art you see in a Yaoi manga. The line drawing style, the not so perfect faces or the blank expressions...yeah at first glance they will not fascinate you. But as you start reading, you get immersed in the story and the characters and you feel that the drawing style suits the story perfectly.

Story- 4.5 For all those who have read the
Art-3.5 As mentioned before, the art style is way different from the usual style you have seen in BL/Yaoi mangas. But, I think you can get used to it once you start reading the story. The art blends well with the story and its characters. I'm not sure how much I can like the flowing line drawing style, but the face and expressions were clear and good. Shounen-ai's do focus more on the dramatic aspect of the story and you can see that in their art.

Character-4 Well, for those of you who have read previous series, Hara sen has been a constant character and I always wanted to see his "happy ending". I'm glad that we get to see a side of Hara sen that previous mangas did not portray, his "desperately and idiotically in love" side ^.^ Sorano is a refreshing change from a typical Uke, although I wanted to see many more moments of his with Hara sen, that's why I felt his character development lacked something. Maybe pulling in other characters help in understanding Hara sen's past relationships, but Sorano and Hara sen's ending up together to me looked a little rushed.

Enjoyment-4 Enjoyment is definitely there, especially the conversations between Hara sen and Sorano. I love the way Hara sen gets flustered in front of Sorano whenever he tries to act like an adult, but not so convincingly^o^

Overall-4 The story is a good continuation and conclusion of a wonderful series. Of course, it leaves a lot to be desired from the Yaoi part, but if you are into Drama CD's, I highly recommend listening to it. The voice acting cast is awesome ♥♥♥ - Fukuyama Jun (Aoto Sorano), & Ishikawa Hideo (Hara Manabu).

Reflexively I gave this two stars but I bumped it down to one where it should be. The Classmates trilogy was really great - the first, a classic; the second, my favorite - but this fourth volume focusing on Harasen was really flat and soulless compared to the first three. It's significantly longer than any of the other volumes (I don't know if this is technically an omnibus, I know Seven Seas is going to publish OB as an omnibus) and yet it has a significantly less developed story than any of the other volumes.

Even if you check your feelings about the illegal nature of the romance at the door, understanding that whether or not you like it the age-gap teacher/student romance is an established BL manga trope, this really doesn't offer very much. I couldn't get a sense of yearning or angst from the characters, perhaps because Sora is pretty underdeveloped as a character. In fact, Hara is really the focal point of the manga and Nakamura kind of muddies this by throwing out so many things that just makes a reader want to psychoanalyze him - he tries to hook up with Sora because Sora in glasses reminds him of Sajou, but actually Sajou reminds Hara of Arisaka, who was Hara's teacher with whom he had an inappropriate relationship with as a teenager, so is Hara just trying to replicate that relationship with his own students to flip the power dynamic? - so the whole manga feels flat. The reader also never gets a sense of why Sora and Hara might grow to like each other in the future divorced from the baggage of their previous infatuations. (And also, Hibiki's mother, the only person having a rational reaction to Arisaka continuing to prey on his teenage students, is portrayed as a villain.)

Glad my library acquired this so I didn't have to waste my own money to read it.

Chinese title: 空與原

This has 神率of 64.3% on Chil-Chil!
Overall 4.5 ⭐️

A collection of stories revolving around 原学 (37) high school music teacher and 青砥空乃 (15) a new student, as well as different people from their past and present. Depicting the pains of growing up and the realities of adult life.

You can read more about these characters in O.B. 1&2, how the couples developed their relationships. I highly recommend reading the three books together! This series is beyond just fictional BL, it discusses homosexuality and the complicated society.

Out of all of Nakamura Asumiko sensei’s BL works, this manga is not super dark like Inheritance of Aroma 薫りの継承 or Double Mints ダブルミンツ, but definitely not pure vanilla like Classmates 同級生 and Rakuen-kun 楽園くん…

Although 原学 had crush on his ex-teacher 有坂悟志 and ex-student 佐条利人 previously, 青砥空乃 also had unrequited love for his ex-schoolmate 藤野… 青砥空乃 couldn’t stand that 原学’s always putting other people’s happiness before himself so that he’s still alone at this age…

It’s only 青砥空乃 who’s able to give 原学 happiness despite being 22 years younger. In the dream 原学 is back to being a high school student and riding bicycle in the sky together with 青砥空乃, it feels good to be able to fly, should have done it earlier…

It’s not clear who’s the seme and who’s the uke until you read O.B. 2, they already waited 3+2 years until 青砥空乃 reached 20 (adult age in Japan) before attempting a physical relationship. Of course 青砥空乃 wanted to be the seme, it was also revealed that 原学 used to be uke when he’s younger.

From a moral stand point, both teachers 原学 and 有坂悟志 kept a distance from the younger person 青砥空乃 and 佐野響 when they were still their students. Also in both cases it’s older uke who’s passive and uncertain paired with younger seme who gave them hope and strength.

not necessarily bad, but i’m not a good fan of big age differences. i feel like this relationships with huge age gaps are common amongst some young gay men, and i don’t like how this manga just… romanticises is. hara loves the same thing with his professor, yet, he does almost the same thing to sorano.
kusakabe and sajo have my heart, they are healthy and lovely. hara and sorano? not so much

Semacam itulah. Makanya makin suram deh :"(

Ketiga poin di atas--meski cuma tiga--memberi pengaruh yang besar terhadap cerita. Saya baca-baca, banyak pembaca yang merasa "kurang" akan kisah-kisah manis dalam hubungan percintaan Harasen dan Sorano, yah saya juga. Saya kepengen ngeliat mereka berdua romantis-romantisan kayak Kusakabe dan Sajou :"( Kurang puaaaaaas kalau cuma segini, Nakamura-Senseiii ;______; Saya harap di O.B nanti bakal ada cerita Hara-Sora yang memuaskan keinginan saya ;_____;

Dodol banget, sumpaaaaah!!! Dia sebenernya gak rela Sajou kencan sama Sensei, tapi tetep diizinin, ending-nya malah dia ngambek sendiri. Dodol abis nih cowok xDD
Bab 3 giliran cinta masa lalu Sorano yang muncul. Saya nangis di bab ini. Siyalan, Sorano.
Di bab ini, Harasen jelas-jelas jadi mengabaikan Sorano karena pikirannya dipenuhi Arisaka-Sensei. Saya kesian sama Sorano. Haaaaah... tapi tetep aja, Sorano-lah yang ngejemput Harasen yang mabok dan membawanya ke rumahnya, sampai ngeberesin rumahnya segalaaaaa!!! Aaaaaawwww, Soranoooo, dikau cowok yang perhatian banget ;w;
Dan saya suka adegan samar-samar (karena cuma diperlihatkan sepotong), Sorano mencium Harasen waktu dia tidur >_____< Rasanya nyelekit-nyelekit gitu, siyalan Soranoooo, berbahagialaaaaah ;_____; Dan saya suka adegan mimpi Harasen yang dia jadi SMA lagi dan naik sepeda bareng Sorano ;______; Aw, feeeeeeelsssss ;_______;
Sumpah, saya... ekspresi Harasen saat itu... ekspresi Sorano saat itu... aaaaaaah feeeeeeelssss ;______; Saya nangis bahagia ;_______;

Damn, I want to--have to--buy these all series. Take my money, Sensei, you deserve it for those all cute heart-warming couples!!!!

Mira... tú no eres gay.

Además, Hara tampoco me convence.

I'll talk about the big issue first: the teacher / student age gap romance/s. Part of me feels like if this was real, I'd have more issues, but for a fictional story I can't deny I enjoyed it, and it could have also gone worse / been more problematic. The leads are engaging and we've alreayd spent time with Hara-sen in other volumes, plus the artwork is unique, so overall it's an easy read to fall into.

The theme I liked that felt more universal rather than tagged onto the above problems, was multiple characters moving on from past romantic failures *before* paving a way forward. And they each did it differently, which was nice; no one path is correct, or even found, for everyone. Another theme was the characters admiting their feelings or true alignments. Does not always work out, but it is good to release and not hold things in.

I can't really recommend this, but I am glad I read this for myself.

I honestly didn't remember a lot about this volume, except that I liked it back in the day. I still do, and I found it interesting to get a glimpse into Hara sensei's thoughts and life before he became a teacher. Also that last part was so cute, I wish it had been longer!

(I'm rolling my eyes at all the one star reviews - no offence, guys, but you had 3 volumes to suss out Hara's preferences, so why read this volume focused on him if you don't like him??? smh)

I felt very uncomfortable reading this. Though I love the art style, the previous volumes following Sajou and Kusakabe, and the movie adaptation of the first volume, this was not the move. I read this for Sajou and Kusakabe’s parts, which wasn’t much, but I needed to read this volume for the next one for context purposes. That did not make this volume anymore enjoyable however.

I could not get past the blatant pedophilia. Hara-sensei, a 37 year old teacher, kissed Sajou when he was 16/17- that alone creeped me out and made me dislike him, obviously. But, now we know it wasn’t an isolated incident, since Hara seems to only fall for teenage boys… this time a 15 year old freshman named Sora.

There’s also a second set of characters we follow with the exact same dynamic, so just in case you tried to overlook the first pairing, there’s a second one to cement it!

My question is… why? Why did the author think this was a good idea? She could have decided/written ANY story she wanted, and she chose this? Why couldn’t Hara and the other teacher fall in love, and Sora and Hikibi? Out of all the possibilities on the planet, it’s a pedo love story. Who is this even for? Pedos is my guess.

Yeah so… just delete this volume and pretend it never happened please, so I can still say I enjoy this series?

Not convinced. I'm sure Harasen deserved some kind of happy ending, but in my mind that was one redeeming him from his perviness. Not one where he ends up with a 15 year old student. This story did feel like it gave some nice insight into his character outside of his perviness, but it also really highlighted what a sad middle-aged man he is, which even though I did want him to be somewhat redeemed is interesting in its own way, I guess. BUT IN A DIFFERENT CONTEXT. Showing what a sad middle aged man he is and then finding a 15 year old to fix him doesn't really make for a cute story, no matter how many times you show him resisting the 15 year old and the 15 year old being the flirty and insistent one.

Nah wtf

The first Classmates trilogy is so cute and has such great characters and depth. The teacher has always been sus but this is.... Beyond.

A 37 year old ending up with a 15 year old AND HE IS HIS TEACHER AT AN ALL BOY'S HIGH SCHOOL.

It's so incredibly wrong. Not only does the manga highlight that it is wrong but it also enforces that if you love the young boy, go after him anyways. Especially with the one teacher who groomed Hara when he was 15 now going after a new 15 year old when it's been 12 more years. It's so gross.

And then the end is trying to brush it off as something they can get over? It's really making these types of relationships seem romantic and encourages them. No.
